Pitti Bimbo 74 children’s fashion trends for winter 2012 from the stands

There is so much to show you from Pitti Bimbo for next winters kids fashion that I am finding it a little hard to edit it all into a few concise posts, I have picked out some of the key trends as seen on exhibitor stands and I will be revisiting some of these labels with more depth later in the year.

All the leading trends are here, chunky knitwear, sixties influences, detachable collars, fur trims, lurex threads, strong colours such as teal, mustard, raspberry and purple, subtle tweeds and grey shades.

Look out for Little Duckling at Bubble London this weekend, winter 2012 preview children’s fashion

Designer Rosa Wiland of Little Duckling has toned down the colour a notch for next winter’s kids fashion collection after summer’s vivid red, yellow and vibrant blue.

The collection retains its retro vibe with Peter Pan collars, banded velvet dresses, lace petticoats and structured denim rompers. There are scalloped hems and heart print tights, folkloric handknits and scarf and pompom all in one hats. The whole collection is distinctive yet also very wearable.

See it at Bubble London 29th / 30th January.

Dominique Ver Eecke summer 2012 children’s fashion portfolio, looking foreword to the winter 2012 at Playtime this weekend!

The photographer Bieke Depoorter has once again done a fantastic job for the kids fashion designer Dominique Ver Eecke from Belgium for her spring / summer 2012 collection.

These clothes are fun, bright cheery and very wearable but with a clever design ethos, just look at that black dress with the white printed pleats and spots. Exactly what I would want if I was a little girl again.

I will be looking out for the new winter collection at Playtime Paris this weekend.

Fantastic Marni children’s fashion debut for winter 2012 in Florence

This Marni collaboration with Spazio Sei has been done to perfection for kids fashion next fall/winter 2012 bringing a collection with a limited reach to a wider audience.

The line looks exactly as you would expect a Marni collection too, with the key elements of the main adult lines retained and the fabrics and cuts all have the Marni signature to them. The collection is for girls aged 2-12.

Key pieces include the detachable collars in brown floral prints, the tweed pinafore pleated dresses and the tweed parka jacket, the great print and fine striped blouses, dresses and shirts, striped knits with matching striped leggings and tights and signature spotty pieces too.

Consuelo Castiglioni was not in attendance but her very handsome husband and son were there, in a large gallery in the suburbs of Florence that was transformed for the occasion.

Pitti Bimbo 74 – kids fashion for winter 2012, a personal view from the catwalk.

The catwalks at Pitti Bimbo in Florence are the nearest thing children’s fashion has to the Ready to Wear circus of New York, Paris, London and Milan. Some of the more avante-garde labels can’t afford the catwalk shows so they don’t always break the trends but they do give a very clear indication of what lies ahead for mainstream kids high fashion.

The kids that model in Florence are super cute, some are brought in from Milan or even the UK sometimes but most live in the city and get used to the bi-yearly fashion week. As they grow you begin to spot the faces of the most distinctive as they progress from the age 4 samples to the age 8 and then suddenly they are gone and there is a whole new set of kids up there.

I love photographing the catwalk from my privileged front row and sometimes backstage view, today my post has some of my favourite shots, later I will concentrate on the trends of the season.

Kleine Fabriek, the big hitters for children’s fashion winter 2012 – Part 2

Some of the big Dutch names were showing at Kleine Fabriek, Oilily and Room Seven amongst them, which with the homes/fashion crossover was perfectly sited on the edge of the homes section.There were some good interior pieces and I will post about those at a later date.

No room for all the big names here; Nono, SuperTrash Girls, Tumble n Dry, Jottum, Petit Louie, and Kidscase. Also showing from overseas were Soft Gallery, Sprout by Gro, Finger in the Nose, Little Marc Jacobs and from the UK, Poppy, I Love Gorgeous, Pepe and Frugi, but I hope you like the selection I have chosen.

Pitti Bimbo begins, new events and preview looks from the 74th edition of the worlds biggest children’s fashion trade fair.

A great start to the first day at Pitti Bimbo today with a catwalk show by Twin-Set Girl, a new addition to the Pitti catwalk schedule. In all there are six catwalk shows at the Fortezza da Bassa, Monnalisa in town this evening and another three offsite presentations for Gucci, Young Versace and the launch of Marni with Spazio Sei this evening.

Its a very busy day!

As always there will be a selection of pictures available on the Pitti Bimbo website at the end of each day.

Kleine Fabriek for children’s fashion winter 2012 – trend report Part 1

Or maybe the ‘not a trend’ report as I saw lots of interesting and desirable kids clothes but nothing much to put a handle on and say ‘ That’s a new trend there’.

I am pretty sure it is a reflection of the economic times we are currently in but the strongest looks still seem to be the succesfull styles of last winter with Nordic sweaters, mountain checked shirts, bright bold colour and photoprint or graphic animal images up there in the top ten.

I found some new labels I will be interested to watch as they progress, notably the organic baby knits by Bieq which are hand knitted in Peru and the simple graphic T-shirts and babygro’s by Rose Pour Les Garcon, My Little Dress Up partywear and the 60′s tunic looks at the German brand Apunktchen.

Below, some of the smaller newbies, bigger labels and established names on Friday.

Kleine Fabriek is definitely worth visiting for a different selection to the other fairs and it is easier to pick out the new talent.

Quick post, news just in New Generals will be having a catwalk show at CPH Kids Copenhagen trade fair

It’s a first for CPH Kids and the first single brand children’s catwalk show in Copenhagen. New Generals are having a show on Saturday 4th February at the Carlsberg historic brewery base for the CPH Kids fair.

Their brand of ethicool clothing has only been going a year but is finding a strong place in the market. New visuals for winter 2012 are below.
