The basic problem with the Duets 2012 reality TV competition is that the judges are also — sort of — the contestants. They coach them in song choices and perform on stage with their chosen prodigies. Then, they also get to vote for which Duets 2012 pairs are the best or worst.

All I can think about is a whole lot of possibilities for cheating and bias going around. Why would you not vote against the people you think are the stiffest competition for yourself and your chosen Duets 2012 partner? I guess that’s true with The Voice too in some ways, but the whole judging/voting format of Duets 2012 just seems so confusing and weird with the judges also performing with the contestants that it is just hard to get past it. I guess I am hoping that tonight’s episode will somehow feel less confusing and finding out the first Duets results for who will go home will clarify things a bit about how it will all work when it comes down to deciding who will go home.

Even with the weirdness of it all, the Duets 2012 premiere episode last week had some great moments, and there are obviously some talented performers to enjoy listening to. I just kind of wish there was a separate judging panel and the celebrity duet partners were just in it to perform, not to also vote.

Anyway, I digress and it is past time to get started on what’s really important here… our Duets 2012 live recap of the week two performances! Before we begin, here is the current Duets leaderboard following last week’s show:

Kelly Clarkson and Robin Thicke open Duets 2012 tonight with a rendition of Michael Jackson‘s “State of Shock”. Then we have a montage of last week’s performances. Former American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson is happy to be starting off fresh with a new week after both of her Duets partners ended up in the bottom last week.

John John Legend and Bridget Carrington: “I Knew You Were Waiting” by Aretha Franklin and George Michaels

Judges: Jennifer Nettles thought it was really fantastic and Bridget raised the bar. Kelly Clarkson said it was classic and tasteful, really fantastic. Robin Thicke said it had great energy and he was amazed.

Ranking: Bridget is now ranked #2

Kelly Clarkson and Jordan Meredith: “Misery” by Pink and Steven Tyler

Judges: Jennifer said Jordan totally raised her performance tonight. Robin Thicke thought it was the perfect song for her and a great choice for her voice. John Legend thought the song was a little pitchy but loved her tone.

Ranking: Jordan is now ranked #4

Jennifer Nettle and John Glosson: “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell

Judges: Kelly Clarkson said the performance was kind of cheesy, but she loves John’s voice. Robin Thicke thought it was just the wrong song, John’s voice is great and he can do better with song choice. John Legend said he is one of the best singers in the competition and he was awesome, but the performance went a bit Broadway.

Ranking: John is now ranked #3

Robin Thicke and Olivia Chisholm: “Where Is The Love” by Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack

Judges: John thought Olivia was sexy, the song was lovely, and he loved her stage presence. Jennifer said it was a bit pitchy, but still a great performance. Kelly thought the song wasn’t right for her but her voice has a cool tone.

Ranking: Olivia is now ranked #7

Stop the presses! Johnny Gray will not be continuing on in the Duets 2012 competition. For unspecified reasons, Johnny Gray will no longer be on the show! I certainly want to know what that is all about…

To replace Johnny Gray, John Legend does an open call and narrows down his choices to two. He tasks them with learning a song in 24 hours and them has them perform it. He decided to choose Hawaiian born Meleana Brown, who sounds awesome on a duet with John on “Endless Love”.

John Legend and Meleana Brown: “Endless Love” by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie

Judges: Robin welcomed Meleana to the competition and said he loved it, it was like a perfect sandwich. Kelly said she also loved it, but to focus more on the heart and less on being technically perfect. Jennifer said she can’t believe what kind of spin Meleana must be on now; she thinks Meleana is classy and unique.

Ranking: Meleana is now ranked #1 (I think there is a bit sympathy voting in there for her sudden arrival.)

Kelly Clarkson and Jason Farol: “Whenever You Call” by Mariah Carey and Brian McKnight

Judges: John said Jason needs to not look so much to Kelly for approval, he needs to be more open to the audience. Robin thought the performance was a huge improvement from last week, but agrees that Jason needs to not rely on Kelly so much; when he is confident he explodes. Jennifer thought Jason had growth from last week.

Ranking: Jason is now ranked #6

Jennifer Nettles and JRome: “You’re The One That I Want” from Grease

Judges: Kelly thought the song was not as challenging for JRome as it could be. John agrees with Kelly but said JRome gets a 10 for stage presence and a 10 for pelvic thrusting. Robin said he thinks JRome has a great chance to win.

Ranking: JRome is now tied for #1

Robin Thicke and Alexis Foster: “You’re All I Need To Get By” by Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrells

Judges: Jennifer thought Robin and Alexis had great chemistry together. Kelly, however, thought it was a very disconnected duet. John said he thought she looked comfortable and has a wonderful voice.

Ranking: Alexis is now ranked #5

The bottom two are Jason Farol and Olivia Chrisholm and they will have to do a sing-off on next week’s show to determine who will go home. Is it me or is it totally weird to have no eliminations two weeks into the competition already?

This week on Duets 2012, the contestants and their musical celebrity partners will be singing so-called ‘classic’ duets. While I agree that some of the songs planned for the night are indeed classics, a few of them seem kind of a squeeze into that ‘classic’ category — such as Kelly Clarkson and Jordan Meredith performing “Misery Loves Company”.

One duet that certainly deserves the title of being a classic is “You’re the One That I Want” from Grease, which will be performed by Jennifer Nettles and her Duets 2012 partner JRome. Jennifer Nettles will also perform a classic duet by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell with partner John Glosson — who is my third favorite behind Kelly’s Clarkson’s pair.

We’ll also have Robin Thicke and his Duets 2012 partner Alexis Foster singing “You’re All I Need to Get By” by Gaye and Terrell. I’m curious to know if anyone else thinks the whole inclusion of Robin Thicke as a ‘music superstar’ on this show is just totally bizarre. I mean, really? How exactly is Robin Thicke a musical superstar?

I can sort of forgive handing that title to John Legend, Jennifer Nettles and even, with a shrug, American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson — she is Multi-Platinum after all. Although I would hardly really call any of them mega-superstar music icons on the level of say, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Bono, Madonna, etc. But Robin Thicke a ‘superstar’ in any definition? Okay, so he was credited as a songwriter & producer participant on a couple of Grammy Award albums and won a Soul Train Award, but is that all it takes to be tagged as a ‘superstar’ now? If so, that’s really kind of sad…

Anyway, back to Thursday night’s Duets 2012 week two performances. I’m hoping that the other judges will stop blocking out Kelly Clarkson’s contestants because they are obviously both better than some of the other singers who were ranked higher last week. Personally, I think there is some jealousy and bias going around the judges table here…

Then again, when the judges are also sort of co-contestants, what can you expect?

On Thursday afternoon, the jury in the John Edwards trial reported they had a unanimous verdict on one charge against the former North Carolina senator. On the other six charges, however, they reported they could not make a decision. The judge sent the jury back out to deliberate further, but they returned shortly only to declare they were hopelessly deadlocked on all but one charge. Thus, a John Edwards not guilty verdict was declared on one charge, and a mistrial declared on the other five.

The one charge the jury was able to declare a verdict on involved donations from heiress Rachel Mellon to John Edwards campaign fund during his 2008 presidential run. A check from Rachel Mellon for $200,000 was reportedly cashed after the campaign was already over and it was alleged the funds had been used illegally to pay for the cover-up of Edwards’ relationship with mistress Rielle Hunter. Edwards’ legal team argued some funds were actually just gifts from friends and not intended for his campaign, and other funds were diverted by former staffer Andrew Young, who testified at the trial against Edwards under immunity.

The former politician exited the courthouse with a smile on Thursday afternoon after the John Edward not guilty verdict was handed down by the jury and the other charges were dismissed on mistrial. Outside the courthouse, John Edwards offered his thanks to the jury and, while continuing to deny he did anything criminal, stated he “did an awful, awful lot that was wrong, and there is no one else that is responsible for my sins.”

So far there is no word on whether a retrial will be planned.

One of Jessica Sanchez’s biggest disappointments was actually failing to win this year’s American Idol 2012 crown for the ladies. A guy has now been the American Idol winner for five years on a row.

“Being the last girl standing, that was really one disappointment for me throughout the finale just because I was like, ‘Okay, you know, I’m not going to be mad if I don’t win because I think Phillip deserves it, but I gotta do this for my girls,’” Sanchez said in an interview with Us Weekly.

Regardless, Jessica Sanchez said she was  very happy to have made it so far and was pleased for Phillip Phillips when he won the title. “I think he deserved it,” she said. Sanchez pointed out what a difficult road it was for Phillip Phillips, who was often in pain throughout the season. Phillips suffers from a congenital kidney disorder that causes him to produce large and frequent kidney stones.

He really fought through the competition, not just mentally but also physically,” Sanchez said. Phillip Phillips was reportedly scheduled for a corrective kidney surgery this week, but had to postpone after he came down with a sinus infection and a fever. Sanchez hopes he will have a swift recovery and will be able to join the American Idols Live Tour on time this summer as scheduled.

Phillip Phillips’ “Home” also nabbed the record for the most downloaded song after an American Idol finale, beating out David Cook‘s finale song “The Time of My Life” from season 7. “Home” was also the fourth highest debut of the year so far behind Justin Bieber, Maroon 5 and Katy Perry.

According to Billboard, Phillip Phillips also scored two other digital songs in the top 100 list. “We’ve Got Tonight” landed at No. 41 with 43,000 downloads, and “Volcano” hit No. 54 with 35,000 downloads.

There is no doubt that “Home” was definitely the better of the two original American Idol 2012 finale songs. In fact, Phillips Phillips’ performance of the song may have been that last straw he needed to place first over petite powerhouse Jessica Sanchez.

In addition to scoring a place at number 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, Phillip Phillips’ “Home” was apparently also quite popular with the Canadians, landing at number 9 on the Canadian Hot 100 cart.

Now we just have to hope that Phillip Phillips will be healthy and recovered enough to give us a taste of “Home” live in concert when the American Idols Live Tour launches later this summer.

In an interview with USA Today, Robert Pattinson denied he was in negotiations to play the part of tribute Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games movie sequel, Catching Fire. However, even he was left wondering if he might have missed a memo somewhere because the rumor had spread so far and fast.

“I woke up this morning and saw all these things about me being cast in ‘The Hunger Games’,” Pattinson said. “I was kind of curious for a second. So I called my agent. My agent was like, ‘No.’ [My agent] was like, ‘No one’s going to offer you that part.’ I was like, ‘Thanks for the reassurance.’”

The character of handsome tribute winner Finnick Odair appears in both Catching Fire and Mockingjay. Finnick plays a strong supporting role in portions of the books and eventually becomes friends with leading protaganist Katniss Everdeen (played in the films by Jennifer Lawrence). Speculation over who will play the part of Finnick is a hot topic among The Hunger Games fans.

There have been a number of rumors swirling around about who the final four guys will be on The Bachelorette 2012. According to some usually reliable sources, the names of the top four guys have already been leaked and we have them for you here. We do always suggest you take all rumors and spoilers with a hefty grain of salt, but from what we can tell this does look like pretty strongly supported gossip this time around.

The first guy that will reportedly be sticking around to the final four according to our The Bachelorette 2012 spoilers is race car driver Arie Luyendyk. In fact, we’ve heard a nasty little rumor that Arie Luyendyk was allegedly promised a spot in the finals this year by a show producer. Arie does seem pretty cocky about his chances, but does that really mean he’s got an inside track? We can’t confirm any truth about him being cozy with a producer on the show, but we do give some solid weight to the rumor he will make it to the final four.

The other three guys rumored to be in the final four according to our The Bachelorette 2012 spoilers are somewhat of an unexpected lot. Rumor has it The Bachelorette Emily Maynard picks out Sean, Jef, and Ryan to battle it out for her hand in the end. Even more, the big rumor is that the person who ends up with the final rose will be the least likely suspect among the top four guys. Hopefully that means it will not be Ryan, who is far too much like Emily Maynard’s ex Brad Womack. She’s been there, done that and really shouldn’t go back there again…

Phillips Phillips suffers from a congenital kidney disorder that creates huge kidney stones that cannot be naturally passed out of the body. The American Idol 2012 winner had to go through eight prior surgeries to relieve the extremely painful buildup of kidney stones during his time on season 11. This latest surgery will reportedly be to do repair work on his right kidney, which has been ravaged by his condition.

According to TMZ.com, Phillip Phillips’ surgery, which was allegedly scheduled for Tuesday, has been postponed due to a high fever caused by a sinus infection. The kidney surgery has reportedly been rescheduled to take place next week and the estimated recovery time is 4 to 6 weeks. The American Idols Live tour launches on July 6 in Detroit. With the delay in his surgery, it is unknown at this point if he will be recovered enough to be present for the kick-off of the tour.

Meanwhile, Phillip Phillips has put off engaging in post-American Idol promotional duties, including scheduled appearances on the Today show and Live! With Kelly. He was also forced to pull out of several post-Idol promotional gigs, such as an appearance at the American Idol Experience attraction at Disney World.

Thousands of hopefuls tried out across the country. Hundreds made it through to Hollywood. Twelve will forever be known as the top contestants on American Idol 2012. Only two are left to find out who will be the American Idol 2012 winner: Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips. Although most of the predictions before the show pointed to Phillip Phillips as the likely winner this season, there were still plenty of fans out there who thought Jessica Sanchez would manage to take home the win despite the odds.

Although a majority of the bloggers out there seem to be predicting Phillip Phillips as the winner, it should be noted that in many fan polls, Jessica Sanchez leads by a wide margin. However, Jessica Sanchez has a larger international fan base who could be skewing these fan polls, because they aren’t eligible to vote (although some may find a way). We also note that DialIdol.com is calling the win for Phillip Phillips based on how busy the call-in numbers were last night, but they have also been wrong before. Who won American Idol 2012 tonight could very well come down to a very close margin indeed.

Tonight on the American Idol 2012 results show we’ll have to sit through a huge slew of celebrity guest appearances and performances, plus a whole bunch of songs from the top 12 contestants, before we get to the actual American Idol 2012 winner.  So sit back with us and hang out while we watch the performances and eagerly await the final announcement in our American Idol 2012 results show recap for the season 11 finale!

The American Idol 2012 final results show opens tonight with the Top 13 all dressed in white doing the Brady Bunch thing to “Runaway”. Producer Nigel Lythgoe said 132 million votes were cast last night for Top 2 finalists Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez.

As we scan the audience we have the obligatory lingering moments over various celebrities (and has-beens), including Lisa Rinna, Dean Cain and Harry Hamlin. Yay and stuff.

Next up we have finalist Phillip Phillips performing a duet with John Fogerty on “Have You Ever Seen The Rain?”. Oddly, this does not sound as great as I imagined it would. Something about their two voices is coming into conflict and they just don’t quite mesh. It’s still cool though, I just wouldn’t buy a copy of it or anything.

More celebrity spottings, yay. Mike Fisher and Carrie Underwood are in the house. Betcha Carrie is thinking she is far superior than either of the final two this year, because that is just the way Carrie is.

Now we have “Bad Moon Rising” which is one of my favorites and pretty well done tonight. Nice.

Oh look at that, a summary video clip of a bunch of horrible auditions where the judges make fun of people who often seem to have mental disabilities. Isn’t that always fun? Host Ryan Seacrest should work on doing some comedy, he’s actually kind of funny in some of these clips.

Next up we have 3rd place Idol hopeful Joshua Ledet singing “Take Me to the Pilot” by Elton John. There you go Joshua, get in touch with that inner queen diva. Straight or gay, man, you do have one, embrace it! And there we go, to complete the ‘Mantasia’ fantasy, we have former American Idol winner Fantasia taking the stage to sing with Joshua. Ack! Save my ears! I mean, I love ya Joshua, but the two of you together could tornado down a house with that screaming! And, um, Fantasia, BURN that catsuit!

Well, whaddya know, another standing ovation from the judges for Joshua.

Did Jimmy Iovine just call Jennifer Lopez Jessica? Do you need some new glasses there Jimmy?

Another group medley now with the girls singing Chaka Khan and here comes the lady herself, 59-years-old and still rocking it! I love Chaka, she just doesn’t give a damn what you think, she’s going to strut her stuff all over the place and in your face.

I love you Jane Lynch! (And she apparently loves her American Idol, look at her having too much fun!)

Alrighty, now we have some cute video of Phillip and Jessica getting to give tickets and cars! to their music mentors. Wow, that’s pretty sweet. And, of course, Jessica and Phillip get their own Fords to drive around in, which is only fair payment for all those terrible Ford commercials they had to endure making all season.

More celebrity music guest appearances… Rihanna singing “Where Have You Been”… Whee. Okay get on with it y’all…

Up next is country cutie Skylar Laine singing “Turn on the Radio” and Reba McEntire is here. Now this is a tune I can really get into, I love, love, love the Reba.

Um, I really didn’t need to see the inside of Steven Tyler‘s dressing room. Boy, they do everything to fill in those two hours of the finale don’t they?

Jessica is taking her spot on the stage now to sing “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston. I still get tears every time I hear it knowing Whitney will never sing it again. Sigh.

After Jessica we have the male finalists singing Neil Diamond. Did you know Neil Diamond wrote “I’m a Believer”? Yep, The Monkees covered it, but Dimond penned it. Love you Neil but man, your voice is just gone.

Well, this is kind of funny. You know how the judges keep saying “so and so could sing the phone book”? Well, the idols are now pretty much doing that right now. It’s rather amusing actually.

Alrighty, now we have the obligatory Jennifer Lopez performance. She will take ANY opportunity to get up on that American Idol stage. Maybe the producers should offer that she can perform every show to keep her from quitting and not coming back next sesaon. As usual, the vocals are what they are, but you can’t deny she’s hot when she gets that body rockin’.

Oh wow! Well, this takes the cheese factor all the way to volcano level. former American Idol contestants Diano DeGarmo and Ace Young are in the house… and Ace just proposed live on American Idol! Now Hollie Cavanagh gets her moment to shine in the spotlight, singing a duet with Jordin Sparks on “You Never Walk Alone”. Very nice. I think Jordin Sparks is often under-rated as an American Idol winner. She really has a fab voice.

Awwwh, now we have a tribute to the Bee Gees, which makes me miss Robin Gibb, which probably dates me and has everyone reading this thinking wow, you’re old.

Okay, this is really hot! Jessica Sanchez is singing with Jennifer Holiday on “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” and I think I hear some honest passion going on in the teenager tonight. She is telling you she does not want to be going home without that title tonight!

Just 15 minutes left, although I’m still betting this will end up running over the alloted time. Doesn’t it always? To keep us waiting even longer, we now have judge Steven Tyler and Aerosmith up on stage for their moment in the spotlight. Poor Randy Jackson, he’s the only judge who doesn’t get to shake his booty on the stage. Awwhwhh.

I have no idea what this song is, why can’t we hear some rocking old Aerosmith we know and love? Oh yay, finally, “Walk This Way” is much better, although I’d rather hear “Jamie’s Got a Gun” — probably not family friendly enough…

We’re running late, I knew that would happen. Instead of hearing results, we’re listening to Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips struggle through “Up Where We Belong” while they are both obviously just wanting it all to be over and know who will be winning that fat recording contract.

And here we go, the final results and the American Idol 2012 winner will be announced, the confetti will fall, and all the excitement will be over for another season. Ready to hear who will be the American Idol 2012 winner?
