These Beautiful Paper Artworks Will Leave You Inspired

Gifted British paper artist Pippa Dyrlaga unquestionably has more patience and focus than most. Inspired by Mother Nature and the diverse creatures of the Animal Kingdom, she spends hours upon hours finely crafting these beautiful paper sculptures by hand.

Each delicate artwork is meticulously crafted using nothing more than a razor-sharp scalpel, virgin white paper and Dyrlaga vivid imagination.

"To be honest, the simplicity of a blank sheet of paper appeals to me. Paper is used in so many aspects of our lives and used to communicate with each other, and I want to do this through my work."

"There is nothing as ordinary as a blank sheet of paper, but it has so many possibilities and can be turned into something beautiful or meaningful, without adding anything to it. This is the challenge I set myself every day." she explains.

"My paper cut works are hand cut from a single sheet of paper. They are first drawn out by hand on the reverse of the paper, and then cut using a scalpel. They can take hours to complete, and I find the process is as important to me as the finished pieces."

This Van Gogh Fashion Line Will Make You Spend All Your Cash

Vincent van Gogh. Adored by millions of art enthusiasts and admired by art critics around the globe. The Dutch master was a leading figure in the world of Post-Impressionism. Today he's universally known as the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western art.

To celebrate his enduring legacy, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam has teamed up with iconic skate brand Vans to create a unique line of clothing and accessories that are a must-have for every fan.

96-Year-Old Holocaust Survivor Is Now An Epic Death Metal Singer

Inge Ginsberg is living proof that age is merely a number and that attitude really is everything. The 96-year-old is a Holocaust survivor who worked as a spy for the American OSS against Nazi Germany.

You could hardly blame her if she chose to live out the rest of her days in peace and calm away from the horrors of war.

But Ginsberg isn't one to let life merely pass her by. After the war she moved to America with her husband Otto and decided to throw their energies and renewed sense of purpose into the Hollywood music industry.

Their biggest success was writing Dean Martin's hit 'Try Again'. But fast forward into the present, with three former husbands and homes dotted around the world, Ginsberg is once again forging a path on her own terms.

It's important to stay active and keep doing things you've never done before. You may laugh at me but not until you do the same thing when you're 96!

Today she's writing powerful poems and belting out death metal songs that bristle with messages of defiance, resilience and hope. The same qualities that in many ways have shaped and continue to define her inspiring life story.

This Porsche & Paul Smith Collaboration Is All Kinds Of Cool

Make no mistake, original Porsche 1965 911 racer was stylish and genuinely ground-breaking vehicle when it was first unveiled during the swinging sixties. But 53 years later, it's smooth lines and elegant finishes are once again turning heads.

It's all thanks to a collaboration between the luxury brand and fashion designer Paul Smith. The classic racer recently competed in Le Mans Classic - a popular vintage sports car event. To celebrate, the car was given a custom one-off redesign specifically for the race.

It's dramatic multicoloured makeover uses the eye-catching and iconic stripes of the Paul Smith brand. But it's not just on the outside that you can see its bold new look, on the interior the design elements are echoed in the form of petrol blue seats and a dark green roll cage.

The vibrant design was painstakingly put together by Paul Smith and James Turner. Turner is the founder of a unique car garage called 'Sports Purpose' which is entirely dedicated to Porsche customizations and refits.

‘I have always been a fan of Paul Smith and I still remember buying my first Paul Smith jumper and jeans — in fact, I still have them! Now to be fair, if we all digged around deep enough I'm sure we could find several cringe-worthy photographs from our respective childhoods.

Whether it was a particularly terrible haircut you opted to have at school or some unquestionable clothes your parents bought you - locked away somewhere there's probably a horde of embarrassing moments committed to film.

Unfortunately for these individuals (or good sports, you choose!) it seems some of their most embarrassing childhood photographs and found their way onto the internet. In all honesty, its hard to pick a favorite such is the sheer absurdity of it all.

There are technological marvels like taping walkie talkies to your head or surfing the internet on a digital mouse. And fashion faux-pas like wearing leather chaps and dressing up a giant furry cucumber.

Phantasmagorical Photos That Will Scare The Hell Out Of You

By day Illinois local Ralph Eugene Meatyard was a calm, well liked and professional optician. He spent his entire working life as an optician, painstaking crafting custom lenses for his customers and testing their eyesight through a variety of visual cues and techniques.

Away from the confines of his office, Meatyard's fascination with the eye and it's potential to imagine found a new home through the medium of photography. He humbly described himself merely as a "dedicated amateur photographer" but in the years since his death in 1972 (he died of cancer aged 47) - his extensive body of photographic work has been critically acclaimed and universally admired.

His photographic journey began in the remote backwoods and small towns of Kentucky sometime in the 1950s. This bleak landscape and natural surrounds lent themselves perfectly to his haunting signature style. Enlisting the help of his family and close friends, Meatyard would place his subjects in all kinds of different environments - from desolate parklands to the bleak aesthetic of small-town suburbia.

But it's the inclusion of his nightmarish masks that truly transforms his work from the conventional into the phantasmagorical. To some his work is undeniably disturbing to others it represents an exploration into the surreal and unknowable.

"Billboards in any art are the first things that one sees—the masks might be interpreted as billboards. Once you get past the billboard then you can see into the past (forest, etc.), the present, & the future. I feel that because of the “strange” that more attention is paid to backgrounds & that has been the essence of my photography forever." – Ralph Eugene Meatyard

Here's 9 Strange Pets In The Most Unusual Of Places

When you think of household pets, you might think of the conventional - a family dog, the slightly disinterested kitty or perhaps at a push maybe a domestic bird or fluffy hamster. But in millions of households throughout the USA live a multitude of unusual and peculiar pets - love and adored just as much by their owners.

Minnesota local and gifted photographer Areca Roe has spent the past 3 years trying to find these weird and wonderful pets for her unique series ' Housebroken' - which showcases these strange wild creatures in domesticated situations.

She conducted the majority of her research via Instagram including reaching out to local zoos to find out about their local resettlement programs.

"What does the owner find so alluring about a snake, despite the fact that it does not return the owner’s affection in a way we could recognise?" she asks.

Her series is a thought-provoking and oddly humorous look at how these unconventional animals are living in the most conventional of circumstances. Should they be free to roam their natural habitats undisturbed? Or are they simply happy being loved, fed and cared for in a vastly different world?

A world where their fate isn't left in the hands of nature, but in the hands of their owners.

This Hotel In The Arctic Circle Will Be Unlike Any Other

It's one thing to build a hotel on the foot of a glacier just above the Arctic circle, it's another thing entirely to also make it energy positive. But that's precisely what award-winning Norwegian architects Snøhetta have been tasked with creating.

In collaboration with Asplan Viak and Skanska and the team at Arctic Adventures of Norway - they've created 'Svart' - a stunning circular hotel unlike any other. It's name is a nod to dark imposing glaciers of Svartisen itself.

It's circular shape was inspired by traditional Norwegian fishing equipment, with a focus on natural wood and minimalism. Its inviting and warmly lit rooms hack back to the humble homes and inviting campfires of local fisherman.

The hotel’s supporting structure is built from weather resistant wooden poles stretching several meters below the surface of the fjord. The poles ensure that the building physically places a minimal footprint in the pristine nature, and gives the building an almost transparent appearance.

Once built 'Svart' will offer unprecedented views of the surrounding glaciers and fjords - whilst having a minimal impact on the environment itself.

"This will be the world’s most environmentally friendly hotel" explains lead architect Zenul Khan.

But just how carbon neutral will Svart actually be?

For starters it's been painstaking designed to reduce its own energy consumption by 85% when compared to a present day hotel. It's also equipped with facilities and mechanisms to produce it's own energy - something that limited its carbon footprint in such a delicate ecosystem as the Arctic.

Construction is already underway and if all goes to plan (weather and funding permitting) the hotel will open to the public in 2021. In the meantime, here's a few conceptual renderings of what the final hotel will look like.

Count us in for a winter getaway in 3 years then!

This Is What Watching The Simpsons Whilst High Is Like

Spanish illustrator Juan Carlos Paz has an unquestionable passionate and limitless enthusiasm for the visual arts. As the art director at BAKEA his day is filled with conceptualising, sketching and fleshing out ideas for his unique characters.

Each of his digital illustrations is the work of countless hours in front of his Mac, whereby he pieces together each scene, blending colour tones and creating a balanced composition. The end result is a stunning array of both the weird and wonderful.

His latest series sees him re-imagining pop culture icons including SpongeBob, Rick & Morty and even The Simpsons. But far from just re-creating them, he seemingly "explodes" their body parts, deconstructing their features in a blaze of colour and surrealism. Heads float in mid air, eyeballs pop out at the stems and the cute becomes the horrifying.

Fashion by it's very nature is a rather ambiguous and hard to define beast. An outfit that might seem garish and impractical to one person, could be viewed as cutting edge and dramatic to another.

Certain trends can capture the imagination of millions, others end by being shipped back to the warehouse.

However, it's safe to say the majority of people wouldn't embrace the idea of wearing severed body parts as a fashion accessory.

Blogger Tracy Kiss however, is in the minority.

She went under the knife to remove "excess skin from her labia" after being in pain for several months. Kiss would regularly develop painful cysts on her labia as a result of her exercise routine.

The friction and excess skin would rub together and cause her major discomfort over the following days.

Rather than continuously find remedies for her affliction, she opted to have the excess skin on her labia removed entirely. In one swift chop, the problem was solved and a pain-free exercise routine could begin again.

So far so good.

But after her operation, rather than dispose of her remains she opted to keep them. But if that wasn't unusual enough, she then decided to display part of her surgically removed labia as a pendant around her neck.

After sharing the entire ordeal online, needless to say the feedback she received wasn't exactly supportive...

Just a word of warning, if you're a little squeamish it's probably best to skip. If you're morbidly curious, just don't say we didn't warn you OK?

Shot by Japanese photographer Takashi Nakazawa, these monochromatic scenes capture the quiet, clear hours around the mountain before the sun is fully risen.

For Nakazawa, these photos of Mount Fuji are a message for the rest of the world.

When Robert Wadlow, the world's tallest man, was born on February 22, 1918, he only weighed the fairly average amount of 8.7 pounds.

But by his first birthday, the boy was already weighed 45 pounds and measured over 3 feet tall. The growth didn't slow. By age eight, Wadlow was already taller than his father and by thirteen, he was the world's tallest Boy Scout measuring in at 7 feet, 4 inches. At his high school graduation, he had grown to 8 feet, 4 inches.

Wadlow's unusual height is attributed to an over-active pituitary gland, meaning that his body continued to grow until his death.

During childhood, Wadlow's parents attempted to give him a normal experience by requiring him to participate in the same activities as his siblings and even having a custom school desk built for him.

Later in his life, Wadlow was spotted by the Ringling Brothers and soon became a part of their traveling show.

Throughout his entire life, Wadlow was unable to feel his limbs due to their explosive growth. And in addition those complications, his hormonal imbalance also cut his life short. Wadlow died in his sleep at just 22 years of age, measuring 8 feet, 11 inches.

Johnny Smith is an LA-based actor and artist who makes some pretty weird pieces of collage art.

Whether it's Donald Trump's face emerging from a butt or Jesus Christ making a snow angel while dying, you always know Smith's work is going to be strange. Yet, no matter how weird the work gets, it still feels fresh and on-point.

"I live for humor. I love to laugh," says the artist of his work. "Laugh lines are my favorite form of body definition."

"I don’t think I consciously made a decision to reflect my goofy nature in my collages, I think it just depends on my mood. Sometimes I make disturbing images when I am in a bad mood, humorous collages when I am feeling funny and perverted collages when I’m feeling like a horny creep. The last two I guess are more of a reflection of my personality. I’m a funny creep!"

"Blue Gals" is a series by Montreal-based artist Etienne Dufresne featuring models with blue skin going about everyday activities.

For this artist, shooting his strange portraits is a way to bring to life the characters he drew in school while growing up.

"I started drawing these colourful characters on paper," he says. "At school, have expelled me drawing classes. I realised later that the simplest (lazy) way for me to bring these characters to life was through photography."

"This project is actually an exploration of the ambiguity through digital photo editing," he says. "A subtle intervention in the skins’ hue comes to makes the viewers feel discomfort."

Artist Transforms Vintage Sneakers Into Really Expensive Planters

Japanese artist Kosuke Sugimoto, aka Shoetree, was first inspired to mix plants and sneakers after seeing the way roots can snake through brickwork and moss-covered, abandoned buildings.

With this in mind, Shoetree began creating his own version of the strange occurrence.

Swapping vintage sneakers for crumbling buildings, he began cultivating plant life on shoes.

This kind of deterioration process is known as hydrolysis and typically takes at least three years to come to completion. Sure, the process is slow.

Sure the results are unquestionably weird, but there's no denying the sheer creativity on display.

This Pop-Up Restaurant Is Made From 100% Recycled Food Materials

Zero Waste Bistro is a pop-up restaurant concept created from recycled food packing. This is a prime example of what can be accomplished when working within a zero-waste framework.

The pop-up was commissioned in New York by the Finnish Cultural Institute for NYCxDesign Festival. The walls are constructed from recycled Tetra-Pak material, typically used for milk cartons. And the menu features dishes crafted from food that would normally be thrown away.

"Our dishes at Zero Waste Bistro in New York will be comprised of local and organic ingredients as well as commonly overlooked byproducts of our food system," says chef Luka Balac.

"With a strong focus on sustainability, our menu has emerged from creative thinking and the desire to produce something delicious and authentic out of local ingredients that are often ignored."

"Deep Habana" is a series by Japanese photographer Takahiko Nakado, shot on the streets of Habana, Cuba.

Nakado's signature atmospheric style reveals the vibrant culture of traditional Cuban life. His black and white shots feature intimate moments with the people he met on the street.

Though originally from Tokyo, Nakado is probably best known for his international work in formerly socialist countries. In addition to shooting this series in Cuba, he has also captured daily life in Eastern Europe and Russia.

Surrealist GIFs Made From The Dream-Like Paintings Of Mexican Artist Leonora Carrington

Leonora Carrington was a prolific Mexican surrealist in the 1940s. As an artist, her output included paintings and novels, all of them strange and dream-like.

And now, in honor of her 101st anniversary at Casa del Tiempo in Mexico City, her son Mr. Pablo Weisz has commissioned these GIFs of her magical paintings.

Carrington's work was influenced by figures like Sigmund Freud and, of course, the surrealist movement blossoming at that time.

"I painted for myself..." she said of her work. "I never believed anyone would exhibit or buy my work."

But of course, there was an audience for her work and even after her death, her work is exhibited and celebrated all over the world.

We all have our own quirks and preferences when it comes to specific things we find a turn on.

But even in a world where you can find a community for every single fantasy or fetish online - occasionally there are some peccadilloes so bizarre you can't help but be confused and shocked by them.

This is one of those times...

A 27-year-old Norwegian woman simply known as ‘Condom-Tonje’ has been hoarding used condoms hanging them on the wall in her room. Just let that sink in for a second. You read that correctly.

Where's everyone else places them in the bin, she carefully places them side by side above her bed so she can enjoy their aroma all night.

If that wasn't odd enough, she now has 1,921 dangling about the place and hopes to get to 10,000 over the next few years.

Her passion for used love gloves began 8 years ago when she asked her then-boyfriend if she could keep their condom because there was "something about the smell."

A private request being two consenting adults doesn't seem too shocking, but things quickly ramped up when she began asking friends to keep and then hand over their used condoms as well.

One day I’m going to clear 10,000. That I look forward to.

Unsurprisingly, the whole practice resulted in her partner leaving her. But despite her strange fetish destroying their relationship - she still continued to collect them and pin them up in her home.

After exhausting her circle of friends, she's taken to purchasing used condoms from strangers - paying up to $77 USD to get her hands on them. She even pays $15 extra if those strangers are willing to include a photo with their used rubber.

"I get more and more condoms all the time. It is the best feeling in the world. I feel so happy when I go to the mailbox. People were sending used condoms to me. It’s like Christmas every day for me."

Sometimes there are things that you just shouldn't share with the world.

This is probably one of them.

South Korean artist Zihwa Hongdae (aka Le Jardin de Zihwa on Instagram) is gifting the world with her mystically feminine tattoo designs.

Her work combines ethereal elements like plants, flowers, insects, and animals. In a way, much of this Seoul-based artist's work could be described as a "memento mori", or reminder of the imminence of death.

But just because much of her work involves death doesn't mean that the finished pieces aren't bursting with life and beauty!

This playful series is the side-project of Thai artist Sine Benjaphorn. The concept is simple: she sees photos of famous people, fashion icons, or cartoon characters, and then recreates the look using food.

Cosplay plus food– what's not to like?

“I love to eat, so I thought that food should be part of my costumes. I have a lot of fun making every costume and me and my relatives eat them afterwards," she says.

The project began as a way to advertise her plus-size clothing shop. But before long, the project took on a life of its own. Most likely it was her Darth Vader impersonations, that did it, but needless to say, the internet is a fan of her cosplay photos.

Ingenious British illustrator Richard Wilkinson is the talented individual behind these Star Wars insect hybrids. Using some of the most loved and recognisable Star Wars characters, he seamlessly blends their iconic markings and features into his anatomical drawings of imaginary insects.

It's not the first time that Wilkinson has tried he hand at anatomical drawings, having previously been commissioned to create detailed drawings for Intelligent Life Magazine and New Scientist.

Some are instantly obvious, such as the amusingly named 'Roboduobus Deoduobus' which sees R2-D2 reimagined into beetle form. Others might take a few seconds for you to decipher, but all of them are superbly illustrated and meticulously detailed.

You'll be pleased to know that these are just a small selection from an upcoming book he's working on titled 'Arthropoda Iconicus Volume I'. Not only will it included further Star Wars characters but also numerous other pop culture collaborations including Pokemon, Disney and Marvel.

Coming to you from Moscow, the _ Humiforms_ project is a surreal mix of fashion and optical illusions.

Created by photography duo Alexander Khokhlov and Veronika Ershova the series sees fashion models transforming into everyday objects.

The colour palette is limited to black and white, as if reminiscent of a massive, human-sized chess board. Models transform into violins, badminton birdies, dandelions, and so on.

For each shot, the couple spent around two to six hours, crafting every detail to perfection.

'The Robot Next Door' Envisions A Near Future When Robot Live Among Us

What would the world look like if robots became so common that we can't tell the difference between people and machines?

French photographer Nicolas Bigot, aka ‘Niko Photographisme’, invites us to take a peek into the future in his series "The Robot Next Door". His work envisions a world where extremely human-looking machines carry out their everyday activities in a world that looks much like ours today.

He creates by shooting the models and then manipulating the photos in post-production. This is where his digital arts background comes in handy.

‘We live in a world of appearances," Bigot says. "In the real life and the digital world. We play roles, characters. But appearances are often false or deceptive.’

Explore Tattoo Stereotypes With This Nude Portrait Series By Alan Powdrill

Alan Powdrill grew up in a conservative world where meeting tattooed people was extremely rare.

As a result, the photographer became intrigued by the people he met who had them. Over time, this intrigue began to translate into a photo series and his "COVERED" collection began to take shape.

For the series, Powdrill scoured tattoo fairs, social media, and the crowds he passed on the street. Once his subject agreed to be photographed, Powdrill would set up the shot for a before and after– once with clothes, and once without.

Do we change our attitude to the housewife when we discover a huge tiger across her back and bum?

The project is a visual and social experiment asking his audience to confront their stereotypes.

“How does the way we view these people change when we discover the ink on their skin beneath?" he asks. "Do we change our attitude to the housewife when we discover a huge tiger across her back and bum? Is the suited civil servant seen differently after the massive skull on his chest is revealed?”

This Is What Hospital Food Looks Like Japan And It's Incredibly Gourmet

We all know the stereotype about hospital food: it's literally the worst kind of food on the planet. Think jello and food that generally looks and tastes like plastic.

Generally, that stereotype is true of most hospitals. But after Reddit user Jenkinsinjapan shared photos of what her food looked like while staying in a Japanese hospital after giving birth, the internet had to rethink that stereotype.

"The food I got during my hospital stay during labor and after giving birth," she says of the photo series. "Sorry for the picture quality, it wasn’t my highest priority. Also, I completely lost my appetite while in the hospital and didn’t manage to eat most of the food, which was extremely upsetting!"

This food is straight up gourmet! Of course, perhaps the hospital she stayed at in Mito City, Ibaraki is an exception. Maybe all Japanese hospitals aren't quite this swanky when it comes to mealtime.

According to Jenkinsinjapan, this hospital, in particular, is known for the quality of their food. But still! These meals are mind-blowing.

“It was a little privately owned OB-GYN clinic, but the costs were mostly covered by standard insurance!" she says. "I paid some extra but what I paid was pretty standard for most hospitals in the area.”

Wow, we definitely know where we want to stay during our next hospital visit. The experience looks downright incredible.

This LEGO Cherry Blossom Tree In Japan Just Broke The World Record

Every spring, tourists journey to Japan to view the incredible cherry blossom season. Surely you've seen the photos.

But this unusual ode to the blossoms is perhaps the rarest species of all! Created to celebrate the one year anniversary of LEGOLAND Japan, this artificial tree stands 14 feet tall and 5 feet wide. And it just took home the Guinness World Record for the “largest LEGO brick cherry blossom tree.”

The tree was designed in the Czech Republic, taking over 6,500 hours to complete. After its assembly, the award-winning sculpture was shipped to Japan where it is now on display.

Adorable Shots From A Wild Squirrel Wedding That Will Make Your Day so Much Better

Love is in the air. And thanks to photographer Geert Weggen, we now know what a wedding would look like if two wild red squirrels decided to get married.

Ok, so these creatures probably aren't posing like this out of a love for each other. More than likely, Weggen hid squirrel food all over these campy wedding sets. Whatever the secret, you have to admit, these shots are pretty convincing.

Weggen specializes in nature photography, meaning he's been setting up cute photoshoots for wild animals for the past several years now. These days, he's most focused on squirrels and, as you can see from these photos, his work is certainly paying off.

Inside The Unique World Of Post-Soviet Nightclubs In Lithuania

Andrew Miksys grew up in Seattle, but in 1995 he found himself visiting to Lithuania, the land of his parents. There, Miksys began to discover his roots and capture the flavor of his home country through photography.

Sometime during his year-long voyage through the country in 1999, he began to visit an old nightclub. His regular visits soon lead to his becoming acquainted with the club goers.

It wasn't long before he was accepted by the regulars there and made the club his social hub for the next ten years.

The photos Miksys took while frequenting these little village clubs record a country undergoing a changing social climate. Lithuania was controlled by the Soviet government until 2004 when it finally joined the EU.

These photos capture the time in-between when Soviet offices were converted into dance halls and clubs to party in.

Inspire Your Day With Magical Underwater Scenes Shot By Jim Davis

Tim Davis shoots magnificent underwater portraits that look like scenes straight out of a movie!

As a film lover, it only makes sense to infuse his shots with as much drama as possible. Between exploring nature and taking trips to the cinema, Davis is able to keep his imagination well fed for this kind of work.

“My biggest fear is that I will become stagnant and stale so staying near the edge if not hanging over it is where I want to be most days,” he says.

So what gave him the idea to start shooting underwater portraits? Davis says someone asked if he knew how to do it and he decided to give it a try.

"I actually had a client ask if I had ever done them and if I’d be willing to try it. I thought, “no, but that sounds AWESOME!” My parents have an ionized (chlorine-free) swimming pool in their backyard, so I did a little research and literally jumped right in!"

Nora Fok weaves these whimsical fashions from her home in Hove, England. The style looks something like a cross between natural plant growth and alien catwalks.

All her work is completed by hand, typically take several weeks to finish. Inspired by her insatiable curiosity for the world around her, each piece is an exploration of different aspects of nature, structure, systems, and order.

The pieces are constructed through techniques like weaving, knitting, braiding, and knotting.

Perfectly Timed Photos That Capture Surreal Coincidences in NYC

Photographer Jonathan Higbee has a natural talent for capturing moments so well-timed and rare that they seem to be completely manufactured.

Higbee's work is well recognized in the art world. In the past, he's won the World Street Photography grand price and a LensCulture Street Photography Award. His work immediately stands out for it's surreal, dreamlike nature.

"My favourite photographs are ones that reveal the unique vision and creativity of the photographer who made them; images that only that person could have possibly produced," Higbee says.

As far as photography goes, Higbee believes that the medium is voyeuristic by nature. It's all about waiting and watching for the perfect moment.

"The concept of photography as a voyeuristic medium absolutely rings true," he says. "In my opinion, the single biggest skill necessary to make strong street photography is the power of observation. If one learns how to truly be present in the moment (and take themselves out of it) step back and observe life, they can then tap into a special quality of the moment that so few have access to. This is the nature and appeal of voyeurism."
