Caught the Twitter Fever

I've been watching Twitter for quite some time and finally decided to jump in with both feet. It's a great tool for catching pieces of news from those that you choose to follow. I think the key though is to keep your subscriptions to a reasonable number so that you don't drown in micro updates.

You can follow me at @scott_carter

- BlueSkies

Looking forward to an exciting 2008

It's been quite a rush watching all the activity in Social Networking over the course of 2007. One of areas in particular that I find interesting is what has been going on with social aggregation.

What is social aggregation?

In the simplest illustration it involves collecting links to all of your various profiles from other social networks and displaying them in one place. Many of the sites providing aggregation services have taken this much furthe [...]

Focus on Health Issues - Daily Strength delivers the support

With over 500 communities covering specific medical and life challenges, Daily Strength has the support you need.

Communities that care

This is a full fledged social networking community that provides a warm, caring place where people share their most personal feelings and issues with others. This complete exposure of one's problems receives kind, heartfelt support on one's Hugbook - a comment board on your Profile page.

The communities extend the profile interaction with [...]

KickApps powers some of the best and keeps improving

KickApps is another dominant player in the field of white label social networking solutions. They currently power communities at sites such as HBO, BET, Proctor & Gamble and Autobytel.

KickApps versus Ning?

They are often compared to Ning, but I believe they aren't truly direct competitors - at least not yet. While Ning appears to have more traction with sites created by individuals, KickApps provides a more fully integrated solution that is suitable for larger, establ [...]

Ning is a powerful white label social networking host - and growing fast

What is a white label social networking host? It is a company that provides both the software and hosting for your social network - and allows you the ability to brand it all as your own.

There are lots of these types of solutions. TechCrunch has done a good job of covering the major ones with first a list of nine and then an update with 34 more. I've also run across a good list in the blog by Jeremiah Owyang.

The focus of this post though is about Ning. On July 26, [...]

Zedge is an exciting community for your cell phone addiction.

I happened upon Zedge when I saw a reference to ringtones and discovered a thriving community. With over 5.6 million registered members according to their web site, you won't grow tired of browsing the nicely done profiles that are complete with all the usual features: Details, Interests, Guestbook, Friends, private messaging, etc.

The public gallery offers free wallpapers, games, ringtones and videos from user submissions. Many of the most popular videos are not what I would recom [...]

Cellblock Widget is great for sharing photos & videos!

Check out the following widget from Cellblock which we used to display some of the logos in our directory and then read more below. I was very impressed!

Click on the cellblock logo in the lower right corner of the widget to bring up the full page view.

Once you create an account you can create as many cellblocks as you wish. What is a cellblock? It's a widget that you can populate with photos and videos.

Here's the aweso [...]

Welcome to Social.com

Thanks for visiting our Web site. We've launched Social.com as a place for people to discover interesting sites dealing with Social Networking. This blog will help me to post some occasional news about Social.com, my travels, and perhaps some offbeat or interesting stuff.

First things first, how did Social.com get started?

First registered in 1995, I created a site at Social.com called the Social Cafe which was a fun place with bulletin boards, cartoons, news and other stuff. </p [...]
