How to use the new Facebook Mobile check-in (location) function

As facebook upgrades its features on the desktop version, there's lot of change in the mobile version also.
Facebook check in first started with placing a nearby location in status updates.
After, it got more advanced features using the "in location" or "at location" immediately after your status.
This brought a huge complain from facebook mobile users as it is fun to share your nearest location along with your status update.
Now, facebook has launched a check in feature for facebook mobile.

In case you're new to it, let me hint you on how to use it.

Login to your facebook account on mobile, locate the update status box, you'll see a link that's indicating photo below the privacy options, right beside it, you will find the check in link. Click on it and a page will open with a search box.
Enter your preferred location then click on search. A list of search results will be displayed then you can select your preferred location by clicking on the name.

After making your selection, a new page will open showing you the activity of that city i.e the status of your friends that have used that location.

Locate the status box, enter your status and click on check in. Once you've successful checked in, your status will be posted to your profile/wall ending with in choosen location.

Example: If you posted- hello world! while checking in at London, England, your status will be like this~ hello world! in London, England.

How to shorten your Google+ profile url

One of the most amazing social network, Google plus which is now open for all (no need of invite) is dominating the world of social networks because of its wonderful features.

One lovely feature is the hangout which lets you make a chat room for selected people in your circles. You can video chat and do a whole lot of cool stuffs.

But there's this story that google plus is not yet filled with people that'll make it lively. Why? The answer given was that "the link to a user's profile is always too long thereby making it difficult to share with friends both new and existing"
I reasoned with this answer and made research on how to solve this issue.

If you notice. your url contains some numbers which you may not definitely remember off heart. I have gotten a good site for you to shorten your Google+ profile url. What you just need to have right now is your normal profile url. Try to paste the full url somewhere and visit gplus.to then input the required fields and create your customised Google+ profile url.

After creating your short profile url, it will automatically redirect to your Google+ profile.

You can now easily share your customise and easy to remember profile url.

If you're one of my friends on facebook, you might have noticed some of my status updates having the love (♥) sign in it.
Believe me, its not magic; you just need to apply a simple and short code to do this.

There are people who'd like to share their thoughts on facebook but instead of typing, they prefer to use signs and smileys.
Now lets roll!
Having typed your status up to the point of displaying your love sign, just type <3 wherever you want it to appear.
Post your status or comment and you'll see ♥ displayed where you inserted <3.

Note that this code is effective in all facebook status updates and comments.

Facebook "poke", meaning explained!

Facebook stops too much sending of notifications to users mailbox

Facebook has officially stopped sending too much messages and notifications to people's mailbox which is considered spam by some facebook users.

I received a mail from facebook telling me they will stop sending much notifications into my mailbox only if that notification is an important one like when a friend tags you in a photo/album.

I'll paste the exact mail i received from facebook for you to read carefully so you will know the kind of mails to receive from facebook.

The message goes thus:

We're trying out a new feature to reduce the
amount of email you receive from Facebook.
Starting today, we are turning off most
individual email notifications and instead, we'll
send you a summary only if there are popular
stories you may have missed.

If you consider the mails from facebook as being spammy or filling up your mailbox i guess that has stopped now. You'll only receive very important mails from facebook henceforth.

How to visit facebook's full site with your mobile phone

Have you ever wondered if you can access Facebok's full site with your mobile phone (just like that of your mobile phone) ?
If I were to be asked, I guess my answer would be YES! I know you might be wondering if It'll be as nice like that of a computer. It simply depends on the kind of browser you use.
I strongly advise you to use a mobile phone that can open large web pages. Now, lets get started;
This trick wiil enable you view your facebook account exactly like that of a computer. Your homescreen/newsfeed will display the sidebars and layout just like the basic site so if you are tired of browsing through the mobile site, then first log in to facebook mobile site i.e log in as if you want to access the mobile site;
Now go to your browser's address bar and type www.facebook.com/home.php and you will be taken to the full site just like the one displayed on a computer. Do not forget to add www before the main url ie. www.facebook.com/home.php
You can do this as many times as you wish.

DotMe; Etisalat's new social network via text message

Amazing! I was watching updates from a local news network and i heard this lovely service that etisalat has innovated for its subscribers.
You won't beleive this is just like a social network for subscribers under the etisalat network without internet connection thats why its so unique. Its called Dot Me !
This service allows you to post an update by sending full stop (.) then your message to 8900 e.g .Am at home eating. send it to 8900 and your status will be updated. Thats means you are a dotter!
Whats the essence of my status if no one can read it?
Believe me, there are people who would love to read your posts and updates including friends and family from other networks.
This is just like following on twitter. I mean they'll follow you and request for your latest update.
All they have to do is type full stop(.) and send it to your number to read your latest update. You can also do that for other etisalat subscribers by typing . (full stop) then send to the subscriber's number (dotting).
Note that i used full stop above just to illustrate. What you only need to send is . to the subscriber's number to read his/her latest update.
Also, your message/status must not be more than 140 characters.

Oh! Lest i forget, this service costs 1 Naira per sms/update for etisalat subscribers and for subscribers on other networks, normal sms rates apply.
In Summary
To post a status update on Dot Me from etisalat , send your status update to 8900 ;
To check for a subscriber's latest update, you'll have to dot the subscriber by sending . to the etisalat number and you'll receive his/her latest status via text message. It means you have followed that subscriber and they'll do the same to follow you if they wish.
Another interesting part is that mobile network subscribers all over the world can read your updates provided they know your mobile number and they have dotted you.

Now etisalat subscribers can now rock using text messages or should i say social network of text messages? Lol.

Start posting now and update your friends and family for a very very cheap rate.

How to put nearest location below facebook updates e.g near los angeles

Have you ever noticed some people's posts on facebook having a location under it e.g near barcelona, spain?
Its not a joke, although it might not be the actual location of that friend but this has made status updates lot more fun.
You too can post your updates with interesting locations which will actually make people think you have really travelled.
Now lets get started

Visit facebook on your computer, log in as usual; Click the box that says "whats in your mind"
You'll see an image denoting location below that status box, right in front of it, click on
"Add current city"

A dialog box will be displayed asking you to type the name of your current city.
Start typing the name of your desired city and you'll see some suggested cities by facebook. Select any one or finish typing your desired location then click on ok and you're done.

You'll now have "near *chosen location* " beneath that status update.
