Details, released on Tuesday, in a report by the “DisplaySearch”, a marketing research and consulting organization has revealed this fact. According to this report, There has been an increase of 21% in the worldwide shipments of television sets in the same quarter compared to the fourth quarter results of the year 2006.The rate of growth in comparison to the last year’s rate has also been increased by almost 5 percent.

In the year 2007 alone the total shipment figure for television sets came around 200 million units and the revenue generated by this shipment was nearly $100 billion for the first time, the DisplaySearch report says. There was an increase of 10% per year in a roll up manner. The growth was 26% when counted for a transition from the third quarter to the fourth quarter and the revenue generated amounted for a record high at $32.9 billion, says DisplaySearch.

In case of LCD TV shipments, there was an increase of 56% per year with a year to year basis. In all more than 28.5 million units were shipped sharing an almost 47% of the global market share for televisions. This was one percent more compared to the increase in the shipment of conventional CRT TV sets.

The total number of LCD TVs that were shipped in the year 2007 rose up to 79.3 million which was almost 73% more compared to the total units shipped during the previous year.

Growth of revenue from the LCD TVs also rose up to 34% year over year and it was increased for 31% from the third quarter to the fourth quarter in the year 2007.This generated a revenue of $22.8 billion in the forth quarter and almost $ 68 billion the year 2007 making it nearly 40% more from the last year’s figures.

Similarly, the choices for screen sizes also changed in the same period among the customers. Average sized LCD TVs of 32 inches also crossed over for the first time in the fourth quarter. On the other side, the screen size of 40 inches and more also accounted for 25% of the total units sold bringing almost 47% revenue in the year 2007.This figure was at 17% with total units sold and 33% of the revenue in the previous year.

Compared to the North American markets the customers of Western Europe shared almost 32% of the total LCD TVs market share while North America was lagging behind by one percent in the same year.

Coming to the brand race, Sony stood ahead of the closest rival Samsung and secured the top rank in total LCD TVs revenue share with almost 19.5% of the total market revenue share. However, Samsung retained its lead in the total number of television sets sold during the year 2007.
