We eventually intercepted the truck which carried no few than 123 men and 48 motorcycles.
“We have interrogated most of the truck’s occupants; from the information we gathered, some of them said they were coming from Jigawa State, with 48 of them claiming to own seized motorcycles. The rest of them said they came to Lagos in search of greener pasture.”
Egbeyemi said the Lagos Police Command had directed that a fact-finding panel be constituted to profile the detained occupants of the truck, but he added that nothing incriminating was found on them apart from the motorcycles.

One of the detained occupants, Shuaibu Haruna, said he left Jigawa State to work in Lagos with his motorcycle. It was when I got to Jimeta - Yola in 2012, that I found a similar format of transit system.
Around 1992 or 1993 thereby, as the taxi take off from Oke - fia going to Dada Estate my base, ascending up the little slope to Osogbo Grammar school, there used to be this billboard that always fascinate me each time I see it.

Osogbo township at night

I never knew I would ever be the creative industry one day, as I was still a chronic civil servant then. Whoever conceptualised is an award winner any day.
Etched boldly on it was the clear picture of a man with a molar to molar broad smile. Adorning the upper lip that make this smile more infectious was a bushy but well trimmed moustachio.
And the catchy caption on the bill board is "Nigeria Sai Baba"! 1992 or 1993 thereby.....
According to Kingibe, he has never transacted a single business in his life other than public service and politics.

The award winning creative caption
in the early 90s

So he knows the terrain quite well. He knows how to connect and ally with the right people to weave a formidable impregnable fortress!
Otherwise who would have known when this man wangled his way and crawled quietly into the Villa to become ONE of the power brokers of a super powerful cabal in Villa? His grandfather, Z.A. Williams, was a merchant prince. He is an Elder Statesman, Eminent Chartered Accountant and First President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.
Akintola grew up alongside his brothers, one of which is Rotimi Williams, who would go on to become one of Nigeria’s most famous lawyers, and Rev. James Kehinde Williams, a Christian minister. Both are now late. Akintola began his formal education at Baptist Academy, Lagos, in 1927. At the end his secondary school education at CMS Grammar School in 1938, he went on to attend Yaba Higher College on a United African Company (UAC) scholarship from 1939 to 1941. At Yaba, he obtained a Diploma in Commerce. As a student at Yaba Higher College, he was not interested in pursuing a career in accountancy: surveying was what had piqued his interest, but he found that he was unable to explore this avenue of learning because the College did not offer courses in surveying. He then entertained the idea of studying actuarial science and was preparing to move to England in order to take the course when he met an expatriate named John Selby.

Akintola Williams in his office: retired but not tired

In 1944, Williams left Nigeria on a government scholarship for the United Kingdom in order to train as a chartered accountant. The first few months in England were an ordeal for the young man as the Second World War raged on and racial prejudice reigned. Very few accountancy firms were willing to take on coloured articled clerks. After months of searching for a job, Williams joined the firm of Binder Hamlyn & Co. as an articled clerk. In 1946 whilst serving his articles and studying for his accountancy examinations, he completed his degree in Commerce at the University of London.

Ambode, Gowon and others felicitating with an icon

In December 1949 Williams passed the final examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and was admitted as a member of the Institute early in 1950. With this achievement he became the first Nigerian chartered accountant.
At the end of his studies, Williams secured a job with the Colonial office in London and was posted to Nigeria as an Inspector of Taxes. He returned home in 1950 and worked with John Selby, whose advice years earlier had prompted him to consider accountancy. In May 1952, he established Akintola Williams and Company, the first indigenous firm of chartered accountants in Nigeria.

Late legal luminary, Rotimi Williams
Akintola Williams sibling

His firm started operations in Nigeria as then Akintola Williams & Co in 1952. Between April 1999 and May 2004, two mergers with existing accounting firms were consummated which resulted in its being the largest professional services firm in Nigeria with a staff of over 600. The firm adopted the business name “Akintola Williams Deloitte” on July 30, 2004. Akintola Williams Deloitte is the oldest indigenous firm in Nigeria.
Williams played a leading role in establishing the Association of Accountants in Nigeria (AAN) in 1960 with the goal of training accountants. He was the first President of the association. He was a founding member and first president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN). He was also involved in establishing the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) and he is the only surviving signatory to the original Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) at the founding of the NSE in September 15th, 1960. He served as a member of the committee set up by the Federal Government to carry out a feasibility study on the viability of establishing a stock exchange in Nigeria.
Williams was a member of the Coker Commission of Inquiry into the statutory corporations of the former Western Region of Nigeria (1962). As a member of the National Council of the Exchange, he contributed in the growth of its listing portfolio and established rules reducing barriers for companies to list on the exchange. He remained actively involved with organizations into his old age.

ICAN Headquaters Abuja named after after
Akintola Williams

He was Founder and council member of the Nigerian Conservation Foundation, Chairman of the Federal Income Tax Appeal Commissioners (1958–1968), Chairman of the Lagos State Government Revenue Collection Panel (1973), Member of the Board of Trustees of the Commonwealth Foundation (1966–1975), Chairman of the Public Service Review Panel to correct the anomalies in the Udoji Salary Review Commission (1975). Consequently, it was a matter of time before the northern elements, spearheaded by Lt. Col. Yakubu Gowon and Major Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma struck as a counter-offensive.
A meeting of some Eastern officers on July 28, 1966 at Abeokuta Barracks ignited fireworks that led to the July 29 1966 putsch. Col. Adekunle Fajuyi. Major Danjuma, who was in charge of Government House, Mokola, Ibadan, having been briefed by Lt. Col. Gowon on what had happened in Abeokuta the previous day, decided this was the best time to move against Ironsi.
Major Danjuma and a number of other officers from Mokola, Ibadan now went to the Government House and called on the Guards to line up. They selected the best soldiers and marksmen who were from the north among them and asked all others including a number of Igbo soldiers to go. They didn't harm or detain them. With a force that was supposedly loyal to them now, they secured the perimeters of the defence of Government House and put the next part of their plan into action. Major Danjuma with the other officers of the unit who were present, went around briefing the soldiers they could depend upon to follow orders.

Late General Ironsi: addressing a press conference
after he took over power and promulgated the unification decree abrogating
Regional System of government

While they were doing this, the Supreme Commander apparently received a telephone call from Lagos Army Headquarters informing him of the situation.
The first person to emerge from inside Government House was a police security officer in civilian dress. Ironically, he was coming to tell the guards to be on the alert. He was arrested. Several other people came out of the house and were all quietly arrested and taken to sit on the ground beyond sight of the house...
Major Danjuma now decided to move closer to Government House itself to investigate the possibility of entering and it was then that a remarkably crucial coincidence happened. He moved back towards the guest house where he now heard a telephone ringing. He reached through the burglar bars, broke the glass of the window and picked up the phone which was on a table next to the window. Among his early roles in the bush was being deputy commander of the First Mobile Force, the most accomplished fi ghting unit of the NRA guerrilla group. Among other key battles, attacked Masindi barracks. In February 1983, NRA’s Mobile Brigade commander, Salim Saleh, was wounded in fi erce fi ghting with government forces at Bukalabi on February 21.

Kagame and Museveni’s; both had something to do with him at one time or the other

Maj. Gen. Pecos Kutesa, while narrating this incident in his book, Uganda’s Revolution 1979-1986 - How I saw It, recalls how Fred Rwigyema broke down and cried when he saw an injured Saleh being carried away to the rebel headquarters. Rwigyema and Saleh were too close that after Rwigyema’s death, Saleh took charge of his friend’s family. The Bukalabi battle demoralised the NRA because not only was the top rebel fi ghter injured, but about 10 senior NRA fi ghters, including Mwebaze Rwamurinda and Hanington Mugabi Kanunda, were put out of action. This did not deter Rwigyema from fi ghting on. In March 1985 when the NRA opened up a second front popularly known as the Western Axis, Museveni appointed Rwigyema its commander. After the NRA captured power in 1986, Rwigyema became deputy minister of defence. He was regularly at the front line in northern Uganda during the new government’s offensives against remnants of the ousted regime.
“We won total victory in 1986. This time, on account of the progressive forces being in control of the situation, the fi ghters from among the Banyarwanda refugee community that had been with us in the struggle could not be purged from the new Ugandan army, NRA,” says Museveni. “Although there were some chauvinist sentiments lingering about, this time my pan-Africanist ideas gained the upper hand because I was in control. The refugee Banyarwanda fi ghters were this time fully integrated in the NRA, Fred Rwigyema becoming a major general when we introduced ranks in January 1988. Fred Rwigyema kept telling me about their homeland Rwanda — from which they were excluded by the sectarian regime that was in charge,” the President notes.

Museveni praises
In honour of one of his best soldiers, Museveni recounted: “Towards the end of 1976, we had recruited a fresh batch of fi ghters from within Uganda that included one Rwandan refugee youth, Fred Rwigyema. “I took this batch to Mozambique. After the defeat of Idi Amin, a new force was then selected from amongst the fi ghters from the numerous groups. However, Rwigyema and his fellow Rwandese were denied this chance. They could not be allowed into the new army, Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA) because they were ‘foreigners’.
Museveni had seen the fighting gem that Ryigyema was and decided to retain him as his body guard. Rwigyema and his colleagues from Rwanda, including Paul Kagame, did not move away from the objective, a long term objective to go back home to Rwanda. They started mobilising. “Given the unresolved political problems of Uganda, a new and more vicious political, military struggle started on February 6, 1981, when we attacked Kabamba. Among the fi ghters who joined us to attack Kabamba were two Rwandan youth, Fred Rwigyema and Paul Kagame.”
Back home for liberation
It was because of that long created line of loyalty that Rwigyema was never let down by his friends.

Kagame: took command after Fred's exit

“I emphasised to him the importance of doing political work to unite opinions among the Rwandans. The fi rst version stated that on the second day of the invasion, Rwigyema was shot dead by Rwandan army sniper. But the truth as it came out later was that the general was killed by his own juniors. Reports said on the second day of the 1990 RPF offensive, which was on October 3, Rwigyema was murdered by two of his sub-commanders. However, the death was kept under wraps until a month later in November.
He had called a staff meeting with three close associates - Peter Bayingana, Chris Bunyenyezi and Stephen Ndugute. During the meeting, a fierce argument over strategy developed. Rwigyema wanted to advance slowly in order to politicise the Hutu peasantry and get them to join the RPF. Bayingana and Bunyenyezi wanted to seize power quickly, ignoring the Tutsi-Hutu divide.

Two Presidents of two nations
withone common denominator
armed struggle

The dispute heated up and one of the sub-commanders reportedly drew his pistol and shot Rwigyema in the head. But to many others, he is a no nonsense brutal dictator.
Paul Kagame was born in the middle of conflict, when tensions were rising between Rwanda’s ethnic Hutus & Tutsis in Rwanda.
His family were prominent Tutsis related to the ruling Tutsi Monarchy. He was barely 4 years old when the Hutus came into power in Rwanda and revolted against the Tutsis, he watched his home burn to the ground, his neighbors killed,. – His family escaped to the neighboring country Uganda and became refugees.
It was rumored that his father died of famine, though he never confirmed it. He grew up a “Tutsi” Refugee living in Uganda. They were second class citizens treated like slaves and living in appalling conditions.

But because his family was prominent, he was able to leave the camps to forge his way through the best schools in Uganda, meeting friends like Yoweri Museveni who later became president of Uganda
In 1982, Ugandan president Milton Obote sent away thousands of Tutsi Refugees who had homes and properties in Uganda and forced them to leave everything behind. Some prominent Tutsi Refugees turned business men were killed or expelled from the country.
Frustrated and disillusioned Paul Kagame joined a rebel group that wanted to overthrow the Ugandan president. Many Rwandan Tutsi men joined this resistance because of his hostile policies towards them. The rebel leader was Yoweri Museveni - his friend and former classmate.

Kagame: giving audience at a forum

In 1986 Paul Kagame played a key role in successfully overthrowing the Ugandan president after years of guerrilla war and their rebel leader Yoweri Museveni became president of Uganda.
The Tutsi RPF attempted to negotiate the return of exiles to Rwanda with Hutu president Juvenal Habyarimana -They demanded the right to own a Rwandan passport and come into Rwanda when they wished to. The dominant Hutu government rejected this request!
1990-Tutsi rebels invaded Rwanda
Led by commander Fred Rwigyema they came in through the North of Rwandan and allegedly killed thousands of civilians and military men. The president of Rwanda a Hutu leader Juvenal Habyarimana called out to France for help. Rwanda was a French colony, hence France sent troops to halt the Tutsi rebels advance into Rwanda.- RPF was defeated in the battle and their commander was killed.

Major General Fred Rwigyema
fallen in battle causing
Kagame to step in

With Fred Rwigyema dead Paul Kagame was now fully in charge of a broken Tutsi rebel group.
The RPF have lost their first battle, but for Paul Kagame and his men he would rather die than return defeated to Uganda. He moved most of his army to the mountains to heal and regroup, while some staged attacks in the villages as a decoy.
From his hideout his army was growing, as more Tutsis exiled around neighboring countries came to join the resistance army. He trained his army, instilled discipline, gave rules, it was win at all cost or die trying. The mountain altitude where they hid was so cold to the extent some soldiers froze to death.
Between 1991- 1993 Paul Kagame’s men terrorized Rwanda Guerrilla war style.
They attack and raid villages, kill hundreds of Hutu civilians and disappear. Paul Kagame had taken control of at least 5% of Rwanda blocking important entries for import and export. The Rwandan economy was weakened, there were internal Hutu refugees displaced by the Tutsi RPF- President Habyarimana was finally forced to the negotiating table!

The days of RPF: Kagame in battle gear.

Paul Kagame and RPF forces were invited for peace talks that led to Arusha accords.
Major parties to the meeting were:
1). RPF leader Paul Kagame.
2). Rwanda president Juvenal habyarimana and
3). Hutu hardliners.
They agreed to allow a two-party State with Tutsi becoming part of the Rwandan Government and national assembly. They agreed to land sharing and to allow the return of the Tutsi exiles.
But no one really wanted peace or believed they can co-exit peacefully
After the peace talks, it was alleged that Paul Kagame’s RPF soldiers infiltrated Kigali in plain clothes and started taking positions for a final battle. (He just signed the accord so the international community would not call him stubborn)
President Habyarimana on his part just wanted to keep his job and the support of the French government

LPresident
Juvénal Habyarimana

The Hutu hard-line radicals they were already preparing for a final showdown - Genocide! Hardline Hutu will never share power with the Tutsis. The french Government and some European nations supplied them with guns, machetes and all dangerous weapons. through the radio broadcast, the Hutu were told to kill their neighbors the Tutsis living in Rwanda when they are given a signal. The interahamwe militia were also trained to carry out mass Genocide.
Rwandan President Juvénal Habyarimana got killed when his plane was shot down and he along with two African heads of state and the three plane's French crew members died. The Arusha peace accord went up in flames!
After the plane was shot down a civil war and genocide started began side by side in Rwanda cities, towns and villages. Paul kagame ordered his men of between 25,000 and 30,000 troops to take positions!
“The RPF launched a major offensive, which would have required weeks of preparations. An invocation of failure has been placed upon them by heavenly and invisible forces that they will never succeeded at anything other than killing, butchering their fellow men and violence.
3). When a fool begins to get wise, it is because he has ran out of ideas..... and if it is a strategy of "he that fights and run away" let all Nigerians stay vigilant and be on guard. Let no one relax his guard at all........Caution is still the word!
But meanwhile with 3 years left for him to hand over the mantle, our advise is that he looks for something better to do for his people to remember him for, when he was in power and government.
For example he can build more almajiri and nomadic schools of international standard and taste. He can build a modern slaughter slab for them in any city of his choice in the North. He can also build an international cattle market for them, the one that surpass that Maigatari in Jigawa state. He can even build a nomadic migrant pastoralist veterinary university for them. Sitting such university for his people in the captured land mass of Sambisa forest, will make it the biggest University in Africa! But that does not mean they took over the land, be it residential or farmlands of the Ivoriens, killing their children, raping their wives and kidnapping their citizens.
