Dollar crash and other things mean that my hosting expenses are becoming too great to continue to run a site using Joomla (alternative non-crap webhosts that offer Mysql databases, let alone ssh, are thin on the ground and not any cheaper).
So I'm going to convert the site to a Wordpress or Blogger site and host there for many less monies, point domain at that site.
It's a shame because I love Joomla but I just can't afford to pay for the hosting features I require to really manage the site at ...

My hobby: harnessing spammers for love and peace

Recently I was asked to modify a custom live chat program so that profanity and common spam phrases were censored.

I decided to go a step beyond that, and harness the most common spam-text for the good of all humanity.

Peanut chicken masala curry

Chicken Curry tonight by Wickenden at Flickr

I like this title, because not only does it accurately describe the key ingredients of this meal, it also covers some of my favourite savoury? ingredients.
That is - peanuts, curry spices, and of course chicken - the blank slate of the taste artist (if it tastes like chicken, you're not trying hard enough).
I threw this together for a group lunch last June after several impassioned emails and phone calls. All two of you seemed to really want t ...

Recently I was a hair model for a Wildilocks vintage hair styling training session. Glossy!
Check out the entire photo set at Flickr.
You can learn all about what Victory Rolls are - and who doesn't want to know that? Infidels, that's who.

New RSS feeds and Wikidot

New RSS feeds are up. The old ones will continue to work, but they will only pull a few articles from the website, not all new material.
If you navigate to the RSS menu link in the top menu, you can choose to subscribe to all content on this site, or just my writing, or just the news. As more content is added to the site, more category-specific links will be added.

RSS feed URLs changing shortly

The title pretty much says it all.

If you have subscribed to this website's dafault RSS feed, you may find that you miss out on a lot of new articles in future. I am going to manage the feeds through Feedburner, which means the feed is hosted by them.

I'll be posting here this evening with the new feed URL once they have gone live.

What is Solar Whelk?

The dark lair of online project developer and bellydancer, Wendy White.
Wendy is also the evil mind behind Cyberskirt.
What's with the name?
It's a terribly obscure Douglas Adams reference.
How is Solar Whelk made?
Solar Whelk runs on the open source Content Management System, Joomla. The design is a modified version of the Vintage layout from Joomla Shack.
Is that picture a real photo?
Not exactly - it was created using a photo of me at Yearbook Yourself - gotta love the flip hairstyle. ...

Solar Whelk development

Okay - so I've owned this domain for a year. I did actually build a website, but then due to some issues with the host of the site running away to the Bahamas... it was down a while.

Since then, I've just been too busy to re-instate it. Problem with being a web developer is; when you get home, you're all out of web developing juice.
