On May 1, 2011 Pres. Barack Obama appeared on national television with the
spontaneous announcement that Osama bin Laden, the purported organizer of
the tragic events of September 11th 2001, was killed by military forces in
Pakistan.

Within moments, a media blitz ran across virtually all television networks
in what could only be described as a grotesque celebratory display,
reflective of a level of emotional immaturity that borders on cultural
psychosis. Depictions of people running through the streets of New York and
Washington chanting jingoistic American slogans, waving their flags like
the members of some cult, praising the death of another human being,
reveals yet another layer of this sickness we call modern society.

It is not the scope of this response to address the political usage of such
an event or to illuminate the staged orchestration of how public perception
was to be controlled by the mainstream media and the United States
Government. Rather the point of this article is to express the gross
irrationality apparent and how our culture becomes so easily fixed and
emotionally charged with respect to surface symbology, rather than true
root problems, solutions or rational considerations of circumstance.

The first and most obvious point is that the death of Osama bin Laden means
nothing when it comes to the problem of international terrorism. His death
simply serves as a catharsis for a culture that has a neurotic fixation on
revenge and retribution. The very fact that the Government which, from a
psychological standpoint, has always served as a paternal figure for it
citizens, reinforces the idea that murdering people is a solution to
anything should be enough for most of us to take pause and consider the
quality of the values coming out of the zeitgeist itself.

However, beyond the emotional distortions and tragic, vindictive pattern of
rewarding the continuation of human division and violence comes a more
practical consideration regarding what the problem really is and the
importance of that problem with respect to priority.

The death of any human being is of an immeasurable consequence in society.
It is never just the death of the individual. It is the death of
relationships, companionship, support and the integrity of familial and
communal environments. The unnecessary deaths of 3000 people on September
11, 2001 is no more or no less important than the deaths of those during
the World Wars, via cancer and disease, accidents or anything else.

As a society, it is safe to say that we seek a world that strategically
limits all such unnecessary consequences through social approaches that
allow for the greatest safety our ingenuity can create. It is in this
context that the neurotic obsession with the events of September 11th, 2001
become gravely insulting and detrimental to progress. An environment has
now been created where outrageous amounts of money, resources and energy is
spent seeking and destroying very small subcultures of human beings that
pose ideological differences and act on those differences through violence.

Yet, in the United States alone each year, roughly 30,000 people die from
automobile accidents, the majority of which could be stopped by very simple
structural changes. That’s ten 9/11′s each year… yet no one seems to pine
over this epidemic. Likewise, over 1 million Americans die from heart
disease and cancer annually – causes of which are now easily linked to
environmental influences in the majority. Yet, regardless of the over 330
9/11′s occurring each year in this context, the governmental budget
allocations for research on these illnesses is only a small fraction of the
money spent on “anti-terrorism” operations.

Such a list could go on and on with regard to the perversion of priority
when it comes to what it means to truly save and protect human life and I
hope many out there can recognize the severe imbalance we have at hand with
respect to our values.

So, coming back to the point of revenge and retribution, I will conclude
this response with a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., likely the most
brilliant intuitive mind when it came to conflict and the power of
non-violence. On September 15, 1963 a Birmingham Alabama church was bombed,
killing four little girls attending Sunday school.

In a public address, Dr. King stated:

“What murdered these four girls? Look around. You will see that many
people that you never thought about participated in this evil act. So
tonight all of us must leave here with a new determination to struggle. God
has a job for us to do. Maybe our mission is to save the soul of America.
We can’t save the soul of this nation throwing bricks. We can’t save the
soul of this nation getting our ammunitions and going out shooting physical
weapons. We must know that we have something much more powerful. Just take
up the ammunition of love.”

10 Cool Ways to Provide Power to Your House

Electricity is something most people take for granted and don’t really have any idea how it’s generated. They just flip a light switch or plug into an outlet and pay the monthly bills for the service. This is amazing considering the fact that people lived without electricity for thousands of years. Even though we’ve only had this luxury for less than 200 years, most of us would have a hard time living without it. If something catastrophic happened or if you just want to live “off the grid”, what are some cool ways to provide the power you need for your own home?

1) Solar – If you live in an area with plentiful sunshine, solar panels would be a likely source to consider. There has been extensive research and advances in technology since solar power was first developed. However, this wouldn’t be a good choice for those who have limited sun.

2) Wind – Others may live in a place where the wind blows all the time. For them, harnessing the wind makes the most sense. People have been using wind power long before electricity was even discovered. The problem is that when the wind isn’t blowing, power is not being generated and can’t be stored.

3) Hydroelectric – A consistent flow of water can also be used to turn a turbine to generate electricity. You don’t need a huge dam to provide power for a single home. A small river or creek that flows continually could be all you would need.

4) Gasoline generator – The most common way people deal with power outages is to run a gasoline powered generator. This could get pretty expensive if you ran it 24/7, but could be feasible if you carefully scheduled your energy use.

5) Diesel – Some generators are powered by diesel fuel. These are usually larger units for businesses or hospitals that can’t afford to be without power. You could have plenty of power for a very large home if you can afford on of these.

6) Natural gas – If you have access to inexpensive natural gas, you could use it to power an electric generator. Anything that can be used to run a combustion engine can be used to generate electricity.

7) Bio-fuels – Since fossil fuels are limited and can get expensive, bio-fuels like methane can also be used to run generators. Farmers with a lot of animal waste use the gas produced by it to power their farms.

8 Geothermal – Using the heat available underground to generate electricity is a fairly new technology and could be quite expensive to implement. However, after the initial setup costs, you’d be set for life.

9) Thermoelectric – This is also a new concept being developed that uses temperature changes to create and electrical charge. Thermoelectric generators (or TEG’s) have been developed for homeowners using a variety of heat sources to produce power.

10) Piezoelectric – The use of pressure or other mechanical changes on a solid material to generate electricity is still in its infant stages, so it may be a while before the technology is developed to the point of powering your home. Piezoelectricity is something to watch for in the future though.

The main concepts to remember when looking for alternative power sources for your home are simple. You need a plentiful, inexpensive source of energy to run and electric generator. You need to look carefully at the availability of your energy source and the initial cost of the power generating system. Within the relatively short period of time people have been using electricity, we now rely on it for practically every aspect of our daily lives.

People who realize this are constantly looking for new ways to make sure they have the electricity they need to power their modern conveniences. With some research, you can find a way to self-sufficiently provide power for your home.

10 Different fuels actually used to run cars

We have known, for quite some time, that the fossil fuels we use today are a finite source of energy; we only seem to disagree on when those sources will run dry. Alternative sources have been around for quite some time, including electric power and solar power, but none has yet supplanted dead dinosaurs. Presented here are some other fuels,some strange, some downright weird.

1) Trick-or-Treat – University students in England tested a Formula racing car that ran on fuel made in part from waste chocolate from a Cadbury plant. No word on whether-or-not the car was eaten after testing was completed.

2) Gobble Gobble – For turkey-lovers (Ben Franklin suggested, tongue-only-partly-in-cheek, that the turkey would make a more noble national bird than the eagle), the idea of putting a Tom into the gas tank might seem anathema, but viable fuel can be made from virtually all parts of the bird.

3) Starbucks In the Tank – Coffee grounds, which contain a lot of oils, make a bio-fuel that is relatively cheap and clean to produce, comes from an abundant source, and, of course, makes the morning commute a much more aromatic experience.

4) Paper or Plastic? – Both paper and plastic can be made into fuel, and each comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages, though the future may show us many new ways to recycle waste products in a green manner.

5) Blow Me Down – Wind turbines have been mounted on vehicles, and they have been used to charge batteries that then power the vehicle. This system works best for those who live in tunnel-free expanses of windy salt-flats.

6) Mulch for the Minivan – Not as strange as it sounds, wood chips and sawdust are prime ingredients of what are called “bio-mass” fuels, which are foreseen by some as the most likely replacements for petroleum-based fuels.

7) Styrofoam – With as many styrofoam cups as we see littering our highways, it would be a nice thing to see if economically feasible methods of converting those cups into useful fuels can be developed.

8 Dung Beetles? – Methane gas, available in all your friendly neighborhood cow-patties, can be rendered into fuels that can run an automobile.

9) Beans, Beans, They’re Good for Your Car – Beans, soybeans in particular, are used to make bio-fuels, and are among the few sources that show real universal promise.

10) Lend Me Your Ears – Ears of corn, that is; ethanol is a fuel already in wide use around the globe, and can be made from crops such as corn, potatoes,sugar cane and the ever-popular manioc (known more commonly as “cassava”, one of the most-eaten sources of carbohydrates on the planet). Henry Ford was using ethanol in his Model T’s as early as 1908.

Strange sounds heard all over the world

Yet more strange and wonderful events going on around the world.

Many countries have been reporting strange sounds which sound like trumpets being blown. Definitely worth a listen…

Could these sounds be linked to the Russians reporting a nuclear explosion which hit a vast US military tunnel network on the 22nd Aug 2011!

What if this vast underground tunnel network is part of a DUMBS network (Deep Underground Military Bases). These tunnels and underground cities are where the “elite / nwo” planned to hide and wait out the nuclear holocaust they were to start here on the surface.

Could these strange sounds be related to HAARP, simple tectonic plate movement, or nothing more than conspiracy hocus pocus?

It seems strange that if it was a nuclear attack on US soil, that these sounds would be heard all around the world and why have the main stream media not picked up on the small matter of a nuclear attack on US soil.

Just makes one wonder… what lies beneath our feet! How much of an underground tunnel / city network have ‘they’ been busy building… and why?

Ecology Building Society Set The Solar Standard For Lenders

Right now in the UK it’s easier than it’s ever been to get Solar Panels fitted to your home. The public can search for solar panel installation firms on-line just as easily as car or trailer tent insurance. Having said that it’s still not as easy as it should be. Lenders, valuers and local planning regulations continue to conspire against these plans. It’s time lenders started to follow in the Ecology’s footsteps and support these projects fully. It’s also time we legislate to stop lenders ad valuers discriminating against those who have taken action to improve their energy footprint.

Confusing Options For Consumers And Lenders

One of the key problems with fitting solar panels is that in the UK right now lenders are very cautious. They are primarily looking to lend on houses where a clear and simple valuation can be obtained. Issues that complicate this often lead to a decline. Phone any four or five of the main mortgage lenders and ask what their attitude to leased solar panels is and you’ll quickly understand the issue homeowners in the UK currently face – you will likely have heard four or five times that leased solar panels are not acceptable for mortgage purposes.

With many companies pushing leasing options fairly hard onto consumers and those options often working out as a quick way for consumers to benefit from solar panels – they deliver some energy savings and less cost than self-owning and installing panels – it’s easy to see why many would opt for these given a fair choice. Unfortunately lenders see complicated and varied contracts, often lasting for a long period of time, as a feature that would severely limit the resale value in the event they repossess and auction the property. Any new owner would face living up to the terms of the old lease or the lender would have to pay the costly termination fee to get out of the agreement and sell the property without encumbrance.

Legislation Might Be The Only Way

This issue is unlikely to be easily resolved entirely in the hands of private industry. Lenders have little interest in saving the World or reducing their customers’ power consumption (except for the marginal improvement in repayments they would receive from struggling customers if they had lower energy bills). Solar companies have little interest in the future mortgage deals available to their customers – once the panels are installed their profits are locked in for many years to come.

The only way to handle this would be to legislate for some standardised energy contract (perhaps backed by generous subsidy) allowing home owners to safely lease panels. The contracts would offer protection to the lender in the event of repossession (perhaps some insurance could cover this rare eventuality) and in turn protect the providers of the solar panel lease contract. Readers who wish to make an impact on this important issue should write to their MP, asking them to put lender attitudes towards solar panel leases on the agenda for homeowners.

Owning Your Own!

Luckily homeowners are not limited to simply leasing solar panels. The full benefits of energy saving can be achieved by buying and installing their own panels. More lenders need to not only support those who wish to take a lease on solar panels but they should also follow in the footsteps of the innovative and forward looking Ecology who fully support improving the energy efficiency of UK housing stock.

Remember it’s not just the individuals who make the savings directly who benefit from adding solar panels to our roofs, using solar chargers and panels outside instead of plugging in at home. Everybody in Britain will benefit from lower dependency on overseas energy, less pollution from our energy industry and in general lower energy costs as competition caused by surplus supply feeds through into prices.
