Changing a person’s avatar is quick and simple, here’s how:

• 1. Go to your Soluto homepage and hover over the avatar you’d like to change, then click on the blue pencil.

• 2. From here you can edit the person’s avatar and name. Hover over the existing avatar until it turns orange, and then click on the orange avatar to reveal a bunch of other avatars to choose from.

• 3. You can switch between male and female avatars by clicking the male/female icons:

• 4. Browse through the avatars and simply click the one you want. You’ll see the change immediately.
• 5. Click anywhere on the page to finish and return to your homepage.

Can’t decide which avatar to choose? You can change your avatar as often as you want. Have fun with this!

Resolution 1: Keep in touch with people over Skype

Now with Soluto you can remotely install, update and set up Skype for the people you want to keep in touch with. With just one click you can set up Skype for your friends, family or work colleagues to use on their own PCs. Read more about this feature or try it out in the Apps section now.

Skype is just the beginning. We’ll be helping you to remotely install and set up more must-have apps in the future, so watch this space.

Resolution 2: Be more organized

Sometimes we all feel a little disorganized and slowed down by lots of clutter.  That’s when we know it’s time for a spring cleaning.  Well the same is true for your PC.  Regularly defragmenting the system disk and clearing temp files keeps everything organized and clutter free so you can do more things, faster.  Check out your PC’s hard drives in the Hardware section.

Resolution 3: Keep fit and eat healthy

Sorry you’re on your own with that one.

Back in December we introduced the new Soluto, allowing everyone to get more from their own PC and also making it easier for anyone to help their co-workers, parents, neighbours, even grandma, with their PCs too. Today we’ve introduced some new features to Soluto to make it easier to keep in touch with people over Skype and get your PC organized and clutter-free with disk cleanup and defrag. Step 1 – Register.

Step2 – Add your own PC.

Once you’re in your Soluto account you can add your own PC right away. Just give it a name, press the big green download button and run the installer.

After you run the installer, head back to your account homepage (just return to http://www.soluto.com). You’ll see an icon of your PC has appeared. Click on it and get ready for action.

The page that opens when you click on the PC icon contains tons of info to help you know what’s going on with the PC. And what’s really nice about this page is that you can take lots of different actions to improve stuff.

Let’s explore the features:

Frustrations – In this section you will see info about non-responsive apps and crashes that have recently occurred on the PC.

Apps – This section enables you to update existing apps and install new ones. You can go through the list and update or install the ones you want with just a click of a button.

Background Apps – This is where you can see what apps are running in the background, and which of them are safe to remove – lightening the PC’s workload and speeding up the boot.

Internet – This section lets you choose a default browser (and if you don’t see the browser you want, you can install it from here), set the homepage and change the search engine. You can also disable toolbars and add-ons for a better internet experience.

Protection – Here you can turn on the PC’s firewall, install an antivirus and push Windows updates to make sure the PC is protected and up-to-date.

Hardware – This last section provides lots of technical info about the PC’s hardware including CPU temperature, fan speed, battery health, available disk space and more.

And that’s just skimming the surface.  Go and try it out to really see all the things you can do. Once you experience it for yourself, you’ll want to add other people and help them out with their PCs :)

Today Soluto is taking a big step forward to help everyone get more from technology. Here at Soluto we’ve been working on some new stuff, and now it’s time to share it.  It’s just the beginning, and it’s pretty basic right now, but we need your feedback to make it great.
Over the last year it’s become clear that many of you are supporting other people, either at work or as ‘family CTOs’ helping your parents, neighbours, even your grandma with their computers. It’s good to help others, but there’s gotta be a better way.
So if you’re the person your family, friends or colleagues call when they have a problem with their PC we have something we believe will make you, and them, happier.

Today we’re releasing a closed beta of the new Soluto that lets you easily help others. Here’s some of the stuff you can already do with it.

• Get tons of information about frustrations, such as non responsive apps and crashes, so you can solve things for the people you help, even before they lose it and call you screaming.
• Improve their internet browsing experience by installing or changing the default browser to the one you think is best, and getting rid of toolbars that are bugging them.
• Protect the people you help by installing anti-virus and activating their firewall.
• Eliminate constant, nagging application update reminders by automatically pushing silent upgrades.
• Install the apps that no-one should be without, Skype, Dropbox and more.
• Spot when hardware repairs are needed by tracking fan speed, temperature and battery wear. No-one likes a dead computer.
• Remove unnecessary apps from their boot to make their machine start faster and run smoother.

All of the improvements you make with Soluto will take place without disturbing the people you help. Best of all it’ll all happen as if by magic, no matter whether the machine is turned on or off, in another timezone or even on another planet.

Most of us here at Soluto are PC kids – meaning, we grew up with computers and technology since the early days, loving it, working our asses to save up some money to upgrade our 128KB RAM to 512KB or even get a color CGA screen one day.

At the end of 2007 we started Soluto with a simple goal in mind – make the people using PCs and technology happy. Make it simple. Make it fun. Like Steve Jobs does. Did.

For all of us, Steve Jobs has been an inspiration with everything we do – the fact that products should be designed for people – not “users”. The fact that every pixel counts. The fact that products should provide an experience, not an interface. The fact that technology should touch our emotions.

We will all miss Steve.

I’m very excited to announce that we closed another round of funding – $10.5M.

I’d like to start by saying – Welcome Index Ventures. Index Ventures joins our existing investors, which include Bessemer Venture Partners, Giza Venture Capital, Proxima Ventures and a group of private investors. We’re also happy to add Index Ventures’ Saul Klein to our Board of Directors. Saul used to be the VP Marketing at Skype, so he’s got some good insights to share :)

So, where do we intend to spend it, you ask? Much of our new funding will be dedicated to the development of new, quick, fun, and easy-to-use solutions that will make PC users happier. We also intend to tackle other platforms, including mobile. In fact, we plan to release several new products, both web-applications and downloadable software, before the end of the year. (But that’s all we’re saying for now… I promise to keep you posted).

Of course, to achieve these goals we’ll need to hire more super-developers. So, if you’re in TLV (AKA “the best city inthe world”), or have always dreamed of living here, and you’re extremely talented at what you do, please send us your CV: jobs@soluto.com.

The new round of funding brings our total to $18.3 million. We take this as a sign that we’re on the right track – that the 1.5 billion PCs around the world have frustrated many of their users, that there are not enough IT pros out there to help them, and people are thirsty for a solution that enables them to become PC superheroes by helping themselves and others. So while I’m at it, I’ll take a minute to thank our users. You’re awesome :)

The second feature is the one I’m most excited about. Many people experience what’s called “application crashes”. These are events where an application stops working and you get the infamous “Send Error Report” window. These are very frustrating events because you have no idea what just happened, why it happened, and most importantly, what you should do for the crash not to recur. This is exactly what we deal with in our new version. Whenever a crash occurs, Soluto analyzes it and compares it to millions of other crashes. In many cases, we’ll have a solution for the crash, and we’ll explain exactly what you need to do for the crash to never happen again. The amount of solutions grows every day, as new solutions are being written by our team, being discovered by automatic algorithms, and are suggested by our community of users (if you experience a crash that has no solution yet, we provide you with tools to research it and submit a suggested solution).

If you have Soluto installed, you can expect the new version to automatically show up in the upcoming 24 hours. How will you know? Just start Soluto. If you see the boot application bar it means you were not upgraded yet. Just wait a bit.
