Have been out of the blogosphere for quite some time. Somehow time management is an issue and 24 hours never seems enough. I wish the sun would slow down or is it the earth that is rotating a bit faster!

Trader colleagues on our network must be enjoying the show on the market. After having closed Jan-Dec 2009 at a hefty premium over the capital invested, we are on to a slow and steady uphill drive, though I must say there have been nailbiting moments for many of you (as per the feedback recd). However, be confident. Tested systems never fail. The Human Mind may fail but a Tested System like THE FINAL CALL®™ never fails.

Enjoy the show and keep buzzing me from time to time, will try to get back to all of you as quickly as possible.

And of course, will blog more often.

Today happens to be the last trading day for the year as well as the Indian stock exchange Dec settlements.

What a fantastic year that went by. Those who got in the markets at 2009 lows have made a killing.

Our Nifty Futures Fund has delivered a return of more than 200% for the period Jan 2009 to Dec 2009. Our Equity Futures Fund has delivered likewise.

We remain bullish on the markets for 2010 in the long term.
In the medium term we have exited all equity positions and are waiting to reenter if and when the market tanks a bit.
In the short term, we are bearish until next mid week.

I have not been able to post on this blog on a proactive basis due to really bad time management. Nothing or nobody to blame but myself. I have taken too much on my hands than I can service. I am in the process of reorganizing my commitments and hopefully will be able to write regularly on the internet network. Paid customers will continue to receive the same unparalleled service that they have been getting until now. I hope all of you are happy and accumulating health and wealth. At some point in time, try to share what you gained with the less privileged. It has to do more with the common goal rather than the conscience motivator.

Two whipsaws one after the another is a good sign :)

We got whipsawed for the second time on Thursday on longs. We covered longs at a minor loss and went short on Nifty Futures on Thursday and carried them over for the weekend.

We also went short on Reliance Equity Futures as well on Thursday and carried them over for the weekend.

It takes a lot of research to come out with a successful trading system and once the system passes beta testing you just need to stick around with it through thick and thin.

Most traders whether day or positional feed stop losses in the system as a means of capital conservation. It is an established norm that you do not trade in the market without a stop loss. However, it is also an established fact that stop losses more often than not add to the numbers on the debit side of your ledger balance rather than that on the credit side. If you were long today and had a stop fed in the system, it would have got triggered. If you were on the short side today and had a stop fed in the system, again it would have got triggered. :) Tragic isn't it. This is how it works. Volatility kills traders and the trading spirit. The only thing it does is to push out weak hands out of the system.

We had a market today that pushed out all stop losses out of the system as well as all weak hands. It does not seem as if this upmove will last long. However, it is worthwhile waiting to see how long it holds.

We continue holding longs and hope to cover tomorrow before the weekend.

What are we doing?

Nothing!!!

We are just sitting tight and waiting for the bear cavalry to light up the flares. When just about every cynic was dismissing the impending downfall and had been baptized into the bull, the fall came. As with all such falls, it was an external input that triggered it. Honestly speaking the RBI policy that came in did not warrant such a down day at all. The correction was due anyways.

Tomorrow will be the decider day for the bears.

RBI keeps key rates unchanged. However, the tone is hawkish. Markets react.

A final bout of selling at close yesterday should have given a hint of things to come today.

We should be closing shorts today after holding them for a whole long week. Lets wait until closing and plan a strategy for the next settlement.

The shorts just do not seem to get tired of holding out. The bears are out with knives and daggers and what have you, but it is unlikely they will get to drag the index still further down. We hold out on the shorts another day in huge profits. With the long winding run from the 4750s to 5100s, this was bound to come anyways. What next! In another two days, we get to see what pans out for the November settlement.

Not much on US markets. They are a better avoid as of now.

DOT CBI Chidambaram and Karunanidhi

State elections over in three states. All clear!!!

Now the CBI raids one of the goverments own ministries (DOT) on a scam perpetuated a year back. (This is as much quick action that the Goverment of India takes!)

The CBI reports to the Home Ministry.

The Home Ministry is the fiefdom of Chidambaram ( an ex finance minister who was the darling of the stockmarkets).

Chidambaram is elected from Tamil Nadu and very close to the Sonia caucus.

Tamil Nadu is the fiefdom of the DMK (Karunanidhi).

The Telecom Ministry is the fiefdom of Raja, a sepoy of Karunanidhi.

Raja says the PM is party to all decisions taken on spectrum in the ministry.

The Prime Minister is not talking.

Now the CBI has visited many telecom offices, has collected spectrum contract copies (as if it was not available earlier), is scanning visitor passes in DOT for the last three years (ridiculous).

Now are you smart enough to understand the wheels that run within wheels. If you are with me on this, then both of us know that this is a red herring and nothing in hell is going to come out of this facade. Either we are fools, or we are taken to be fools, or we are fooling ourselves!!!

Reliance Industries and Hardy Oil

Way back in June 2009, Hardy Oil released a report quoting gross risked best estimates for D3 and D9, which meant a quadrupling of India's gas production base in the next 5 years.

The Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) said these claims were not approved by the regulator and Hardy should not have made such a report public without an approval from the DGH.

The Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) has said that Hardy Oil has gone out of its way to release these estimates and perhaps there is a hidden motive behind it.

The Hardy stock spiked 30% in London!!!

SP Tulsian a leading analyst on Reliance, mentioned "Coming on the gas front, they have started the production, couple of day’s back we had a new that they made more new discoveries. Right now they are producing gas from D6. They made new discoveries in D3 and D9 also which is almost double the estimate of the D6 blocks. So one can imagine the growth coming in from the gas production, maybe the enhance refinery production and they will start making the marketing in the domestic front. Maybe for FY10 they will have EPS of Rs 140 which can keep going up to Rs 200 for FY11. If one can hold it for the next year, maybe till March 10 he/she can expect a price of Rs 3000 of the stock."

Sometime end of October SEBI too got into the act.

Four weeks ago, at the beginning of this month the Directorate General of Hydrocarbons wrote to the Sebi Chairman saying that it suspected unethical disclosures by Hardy Oil which is listed on the London Stock Exchange. It actually went ahead and alleged that these disclosures were being made in an inappropriate manner to influence share prices. Now what we understand from our sources is that Sebi is going to take up this issue with the UK regulator to find out if at all any norms of disclosures have been violated by Hardy Oil.

The entire imbroglio got mired in clarity of global regulatory norms for JVs etc and was forgotten.

Back to the markets today.
Again, Hardy Oil makes a dud disclosure on one of the wells in D9 and the Nifty tanks along with Reliance Industries.

On a day when Europe had opened strong and the Dow had closed earlier on a strong note on good results, Hardy tanked 36% on the London Stock Exchange. Reliance tanks 4% on the Indian exchanges.

Mind you, the entire jingbang on the Hardy board as well as the CEO, COO, CFO are all Indians!!! Hardy holds 10% stake in KG D3/6/9 while RIL holds 90%. While Reliance can conveniently throw its hands in the air and say that they have not made any disclosures and it was the joint venture partner that did so in London, a whole host of doubts arise in the retail investors mind with respect to insider trading!!!

Where does this leave the retail investor? Nowhere!!! Probably insiders in both RIL and Hardys are making hay while retail investors sweat their pockets out.

As I mentioned, way back we have laughed our guts out watching Laurel and Hardy movies. This Hardy was too much to digest!!!

Nothing seems to be working in the markets nowadays. One is reminded of a game of musical chairs!
A bounce in the US markets does not help the Nifty at all or did the KG D9 fiasco spook the Indian markets. It seems to be an overreaction though. One was aware of Laurel and Hardy until now, but Reliance and Hardy was too much to digest!!!

The Nifty is back to yesterday's close and, hopefully, Monday through Thursday settlement week will decide the Nifty Futures Future.

We had planned to cover shorts if the Nifty were to hold the opening gains today; however, the Nifty did not oblige. We continue with our shorts in profits and rework a strategy on Monday.

The Dow opens strong on a day and is in the dumps the next day. What a pity. As of writing it is struggling to bounce back from oversold levels. Microsoft's good Q3 showing does not help at all. Somehow, one is forced to draw an analogy between the Nifty (struggling to hold 5k) and the Dow (struggling to hold 10k). Lets await the Dow's closing today. We hold nothing on the US markets as of now.

Long term: Bull Market.
Short term: Bearish.
The whipsaw did not happen yesterday and the bears lived another day. There is going to be a lot of volatility going forward and intraday traders are likely to be caught in a bind if they don't place their bets and stoploss judiciously.
Positional traders need not worry. Just ride the trend.

A final burst of selling pulled down the Nifty below a significant level that could set the trend for the rest of the settlement as well as the coming one. While liquidity has been the primary catalyst that jump started the global rally, it looks as though it would like to take a little rest going forward.
We continue holding shorts on the Nifty Futures and probably look forward to squaring up most probably tomorrow or on the last trading day of the week.

The US Indices look like they are going to cool off by close. We do not hold any open positions there.

Voila!!! The Yankees bounce back! A massive whipsaw on the Dow and S&P. The Bulls are back on Wall street. Its buy for the short tem.

What impact this can have on the Indian indices? For starters not much, but coupled with some cabinet decisions on divestment and investment taken on a market holiday, one could expect a similar whipsaw back home!!!

We are currently short on Nifty Futures initiated in the Muhurat trading session. Lets see how the ticker unfolds on Tuesday.

A very happy and joyous Diwali to all.

I have been preoccupied since last weekend with matters appearing too flimsy at the crust; however, hot at the core. Reminds me of the huge piece of rock that we inhabit. This seemingly inanimate piece of rock takes in all the shit (literally) from us, and yet can take more and more without flinching. We continue to have little respect for this home that we inhabit, yet we persist in erecting and decorating marvels for our own private pleasures knowing well that it takes just a fraction of friction beneath the earths crust to knock off all these marvels!

A frenzy of Diwali noise and light greets me as I write. The air has suddenly become too chemical, not that it was any great before the sound and light erupted. Having just gotten back to civilization after a week or more, ones olfactory instincts immediately go into spectrometric analysis of the air that was and the air that is now. The gases that exist around our planet should be billions of eons old, yet they are so fresh and exotically scented in and around civilization that is not yet polluted by cement and steel. As you pass through this virgin land, one is presented with an aroma of scents that keeps refreshing at every turn and every corner. You can even smell the water that drips down from the thick vegetation above in the forests as well as the aroma of water that is locked up in huge earthen dams around these forests. It is mother nature at its original best. The need to appreciate the goodness of life is the very food that kindles the instinct to survive and if one survives but has never appreciated the goodness of life, then one has survived in vain only to bite the dust!

Coming back to our wealth management setups, the past three weeks in this settlement had ones patience tested to the limits. The Nifty just oscillated 100 points up and down 5K doing nothing good to anybody in the bargain. It was a lackluster muhurat trading day today and Udayan rightly called it symbolic. However, we have taken short positions today on the Nifty Futures and the setup does look bearish on a weekly scale. Monday is a holiday and we relook our setup on Tuesday. No Equity positions.

US markets and other global markets look all set to cool off, and if they do, this will trigger a healthy correction on the Sensex and Nifty too. We hold no positions on the US markets.

Excellent bearish setups! As Rakesh Jhunjhunwala says, on a day to day basis we are coupled with global markets; however, over a larger perspective, we are decoupled. He goes on to add, once upon a time the sensex was 3000 and the Dow was 10,000. Today the Dow is 10,000 and the Sensex is 17,000. As the depression unfolds in the US, we need to catch up on how it will affect our day to day lives. Lets hope, we survive!
