I'm Going Green with Natural Skincare Products

I’m hopping on the organic trend this summer, by greening up my beauty routine. You’ll notice that I’ll be reviewing only natural/organic products and passing the non-natural products to other reviewers on this site.
I’m not doing this simply because it’s trendy. I’m doing it because I don’t think my ultra-sensitive skin can stand the harsh chemicals used in standard products anymore. Have any of you made this switch? Or, do you own any natural skin care products you could recommend for me?

With summer right around the corner, I’m thinking about skin care all the time and I have a lot to stock up on. With my sensitive skin, not every product works for my body type. Here are the products I need to replace with all-natural, not tested on animals, vegan friendly products:

Face creams
Face wash
Acne treatment
Eye cream

Are there any green sunless tanning products out there?

I learned some stuff recently, about regular skincare products and I want to share what I’ve learned with my readers. Keep in mind this is partially the reason I’m making the switch to all-natural. The other reason is my acne doesn’t seem to ever improve. I need to give up make-up, so may as well give up anything that contains ingredients that aren’t truly benefiting me as a person and the environment.

On a side note: I also recently want vegetarian and am on my way to veganism. Some big changes around here!

So here’s what I’ve learned about non-organic products and why I’m gradually making the shift to the best natural products. I learned that my skin absorbs nearly 130 chemicals, because that’s what these products contain. These products are safe in small doses, but imagine what they’re doing to our skin over a long period of time. It can’t be good. I don’t even want to mess around with fragrances anymore, because I learned a very common ingredient is responsible for sperm damage, infertility, and birth defects. The most disturbing fact of all is that over 1000 skincare products have been banned in Europe, because they may cause cancer, while only 10 have been banned in the states! Yikes.

I learned some of the best all-natural products feature ingredients that are wholesome and features packaging that is environmentally friendly. I’m looking to get involved with companies that are focused on reducing their carbon footprint and dedicated overall to the environment, but also to my skin. I’ve been at this lifestyle for about a week and a half now, most days not wearing any makeup at all, and I’m enjoying it. I’ll show you some make-up free pictures after the weekend.

Another side-note: My acne redness has reduced since giving up foundation. I wish I had given it up sooner, before the dark marks and tiny scars. Can anyone recommend a solution for this?

So, does this mean I’m going to abandon cosmetics for good? Yes, unless they’re organic, all-natural, and not tested on animals. I’m still going to write reviews here. It’s just my reviews will be on products/companies I believe in. I’m going to pass the freebies to my other writers and let them handle the non-organic reviews. I’m not applying non-organic/green skincare products to my skin at all anymore. I want products that I can trust and that make me feel like I’m doing the right thing.

Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Shampoo & Conditioner Review

Damn, for under $8 my hair looks and feels so beautiful!
I purchased Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Shampoo & Conditioner at Walmart a couple weeks back. There’s an entire line of these products, but I’ve only tried the shampoo & conditioner. I think I’m going to use a coupon I have to purchase their 30-day smoothing kit. Now that summer is here, I’m going to be in an all-out battle with dryness and frizz, so this will come in handy.

I purchased the Suave Keratin Infusion Color Care Shampoo, because my hair was recently colored. You can read my Garnier Olio review here. I know it’s working to protect my color, because my hair color continues to look excellent. I haven’t really noticed much fading, although my roots are becoming slightly visible. They’re so closely matched to my dyed color I doubt it’s noticeable to anyone, but me. Plus, my hair grows so fast this was just bound to happen.

After washing with the shampoo and conditioner, my hair was noticeably softer and shinier. It provided a rich lather, but being that it is low sulfate, it’s not the super lather you may be used to. I got the best lather when I scrubbed from front to back, using the pads of my fingers.

I have very long hair, but it’s not overly thick. After using this product I had no frizz. I continue to not have frizz. I have to say that I love this shampoo and conditioner duo. It’s on par with some of the more expensive hair care brands. I’m always looking for ways to get salon treatments at bargain prices and this one doesn’t even require a coupon. For less than $8, I give salons keratin shampoo and conditioner major kudos!
