Sleepless after Boss Engira Baskaran (BEB)!

I am not a critic and this is not a movie review but just my experience and perception about BEB which is probably the best movie (comedy genre) to hit the screens in years. Usually I don’t prefer writing about movies in my blog. There are two reasons for it; firstly I can never be happy after making remarks, false and hurtful at times, on a movie which means a lot to the crew involved in its making. Moreover I don’t reserve the rights to comment on others’ sincere effort, however meager it maybe, in making the film; secondly I have never felt the urge to write about any movie since I started blogging.

But BEB kindled me to write about it - the story, screenplay, cast, scenes, commercial entities, dialogues, and many more stuff that an audience expects when thronging to a theatre for any movie. I spent a sleepless night, figuratively of course, after watching the movie not because it was nightmarish but was a refinement of movies with – memorable emotions, humour, and romance sans action – all the ingredients present in right proportions that I crave for in a movie of this genre!

To start off with I would like to appreciate Director Rajesh for delivering a usual story in a comical way flavoured with romance and some great characterization. The screenplay was apt. Songs were peppy, their visualizations were lucrative and lyrics were average. Music (including BGM) was entertaining and added to the emotions. Out-n-out comedy entwined with the story is the USP of this movie. The fantastic cast spelt the word ‘awesome’ with their performances. Some of the notable performers both behind screen and on screen are as follows.

Santhanam: Yes, you read it right. Santhanam, not Arya, is the virtual hero. Anyone would have mistaken Santhanam to be the ‘real hero’ since the whistles, screams, roars, shouts and applause for him was far greater than Arya’s in theatre. Oh my God! Timing and delivery of dialogue are child’s play for this guy. Whatay performance! The way he emotes, scopes of his role in the movie, situational humour are some of the things to look for in this movie. He has once again proved that he is a crowd puller, has a fan following just like any other hero and could well be the next Gowndamani of Tamil Cinema if not more. I am looking forward to his work in Enthiran!

Arya: The so called ‘real hero’ of the movie. You just have to accept that! I am not undermining his performance but I am sure he could have given us more of ‘Boss’. His casual-never change attitude, ogling at heroine, jests with Santhanam were semi-natural but as he says at one point of time in the movie ‘ovvoruthanukkum ovvaru style’ meaning ‘each person (male) has his own style’ which satisfied my insatiable urge to bemock his performance. Nevertheless he has to be lauded for his antics in this movie and his efforts in making this role one of memorable ones in his career. The director could have asked Arya to keep his (Arya’s) mouth shut since the pan-parag supari and gutka stains were prominent on his teeth (Naan Kadavul effect).

Nayanthara: Beautiful, Graceful, Sexy, Elegant, and Expressive. I am baffled as to why she is going to quit movies right when she is on cloud nine! No wonder she is the most preferred actress in Kollywood or whichever Wood. She was perfect for the movie and justified her character very much. After all she had already donned the teacher role in Aegan. He stunning looks and penetrating gaze would be noticed, I am sure.

Yuvan Shankar Raja: As usual western music influence can be felt in this movie too. Yuvan is truly a pro at BGM though he patches up the chord with music from old movies. His work in this movie may be subdued because of two reasons viz. his BGM work in Siva Manasula Sakti (SMS) was far more appealing than the one in BEB and BEB doesn’t need a support in the form of BGM to make its magic work.

Rajesh: For those who don’t know he is the Director of BEB. His debut film SMS, which also had Santhanam, would have seen the success of BEB then but for his screw up of the last 30 to 40 minutes. ‘Ovvaru ponnukkum ovvaru feeling da’ dialogue from SMS was a hit among youth then, ‘Nanbaen da’ is the trend now. Grapevine has it that Rajesh was the one to come up with these phrases and Santhanam improvised them. Great work sir! BEB is nothing but another golden feather to his crown. My only worry is that he should not be stereotyped from these movies and must serve a variety to the audience in future.

Other notable performances include the one by the new comer as Boss’s elder brother, his wife, Boss’s mom & sister. Chandrika’s dad had also done a commendable job. Jiiva’s cameo in BEB was far more impressive than Arya’s in SMS. I would have given a 10 on 10 for the movie but as I said earlier I am not critic but the movie is worth every rupee. BEB is a movie that you would never regret for having watched with any type of crowd!

P.S. Enthiran trailer was screened during interval. This ‘Boss’ was nothing to ‘The Boss’! The trailer itself was an Xperience.

Though the title is 'The Wednesday' let me start with 'The Tuesday'. Yeah, it was The Tuesday (15/09/09) which was dreadful. I had Murugappa Group's online written on Tuesday morning. Performed well in that but as usual did not expect to be shortlisted because of previous written attempts record in couple of comapanies' written exams:P. The same day Michelin Tyres came for recruitment. I badly wanted to get over with the placement spell by then. Luckily Michelin's written test was child's play with some simple aptitude questions and about half a dozen HR questions (No Tech!). I was expecting to get through for sure. My expectations bombed finally! That night at 21:34 hours the results were out and I was not in the shortlist.

I slept early (@21:45) that night. My somberness had no ends. Hell lotta feelings rushed into my heart and mind. They rebounded against the myocardial and arachnoid walls. They collided with each other and unfortunately the collisions were elastic. I didn't feel any better. I was sick. I was alone in room as my roomie was off for yet another clandestine take at GRE (which I didn't know then). I felt ashamed of not even able to clear a single written exam during the placement season even though I always felt I had done well. I did not have other plans (like higher studies). Festember was a couple of days away. I thought this was going to be just another 'Fest and not to remember'. No silver lining in my life, I thought. I couldn't sleep but somehow managed. I felt the pain even during sleep which I inferred from the nightmares.

Wednesday morning was the same, bright orange (unsure about the colour) columns of light coming through the open windows of 49, Garnet-B even though I didn't discover brightness in me. There were a couple of messages waiting in my Inbox. Giving a quick glance, I realized one of my friends had wished me for nothing. But again a couple of messages below I saw that message which said I was shortlisted for Murugappa Group's Group Discussion. It was 7:25 am then and I was wanted there by 8:30 am. I got ready in a mediocre set of formals and set out for the ultimate attempt. The morning was damp or was I weary?

One of my friends had once told me , on a totally different context, 'fight for something that you desire like you are going to die the next day'. Actually lot of personalities have said that but my friend's words rang in my ears that day. The GD was to begin at around 9 but eventually got postponed to 10:30. I was in the third and last group and we had it at 1pm. I was in my element after 16 hours and was pretty confident of getting through. As a matter of fact I peeped over the moderator, as I was sitting next to him, to take a look at every one's marks:P (I was the topper of my group:D, though I was not sure then). I went straight up to the mega-mess to fill up my 0.25 gallons-stomach with the mundane food (No breakfast that morning:(). The result was out at 14:30 hours and I was one among the six shortlisted people to appear for the interview.

I was the sixth person person according to alphabetical order. I got all my certificates for the interview. Time passed as I chatted around with people who were yet have their interview. I was trying to hold down my apprehension whenever someone came out after their turn. To none did I ask about their interviews. I got all my answers from others' interrogations. My turn came only at 18:00! I was smiling when I entered the chamber. The door closed behind me and a bright spot started to show as the interview started with the question, shot at me by a slightly pot-bellied man, "What was in your mind while you were out there waiting so long for your turn ?". I was on top gear in due course and all the silly mistakes that I made went unnoticed. Maybe there are no stops in your way when it is your day. In the end, I closed the door behind me, after a full fledged rapid-fire for 45min, with a "Thank You". I was still smiling when I came out.

After all the bright spot had grown into a silver lining, I thought. Still to conceal my anxiety I acted normal and spoke casually to my friends. Before I could reach my hostel I got the news, that was supposed to change my future, from a local landline number (T&Ps). I was placed! I made my way back to the Training and Placement department to sign on a couple of forms and finish off the formalities before getting the offer letter. Blessings from elders & faculties; hearty wishes and congratulations from friends; self satisfaction and moral boost; all at the same time, what else can one ask for? My soul transformed completely within 24 hours.

Back in hostel I don't know how much weight my ass lost. Friends were heartily kicking at my butt and soaked me in 'used water'. Nevertheless it was a day (16/09/09) I ought to remember in my lifetime. Exactly 21 days later on another Wednesday my roommate got placed in a Wierd company, on a Wierd day, after a Wierd incident [the previous day (Tuesday)], in a Wierd mood for a Wierd pay :P. I think he too would remember his Wednesday :). Finally! my room achieved 100% placement and a blog-post after a long time.

Is It Time For World War III?

This is a post which I wanted to publish a week back. It is always for good, certain things get procrastinated. Now, I get to the point. I can’t believe (!)as the content which I am publishing is actually going to happen. At least its my cognitive content. I seriously think it is time for India to give a fitting response to Pakistan, which will be to call for a WAR if they ask for it. I am so tired of these political games. It gets me unnerved and I am sure any Indian would feel the same after '26/11', as many have started to call it like 9/11. The News channels should be ashamed to say that and I don't think there can be any comparison at all. 9/11 is a big conspiracy, unlike 11/26!

Finally, India (or rather the terrorist and Pakistan) has made some heads turn. The Mumbai attack on 26/11 did stir many people around the world. And all those proofs that say the terrorists were trained in Pakistan by the NSI made me really feel sorry for the innocent Pakistanis (I mean the common people). I am totally flabbergasted and I strongly think we have an enemy as our neighbour. After that stern reply by the Pakistani army chief to our warnings, I think they are not interested in eradicating terrorism off their country. The terrorists are parasites in symbiotic relationship with the host called Pakistan. The way Pakistan is reacting to Mumbai terror attacks clearly shows their interest in WAR and they have an eye to resolve the Kashmir issue along with this. Many secrets might be revealed,and a lot of issues might get settled as a result of this War.

India will have the support of major nations like USA, which means the UK as well, Russia and many others. But USA as ever is unreliable. It may turn its back on India anytime.The real intention of the war on Iraq was to dethrone Saddam Hussain and steal away some crude oil. I also suspect (this is too much I know) there is some serious nexus between Al-Queda and the USA (government)! And seems china is supporting Pakistan. I also have my part of reasons for a World War III, which might instictively turn out to be right, that is very likely to follow if India and Pakistan go in for a war. This war might trigger few more hidden reasons or intentions out of the loose mouthed Pakistan Army chief. Well, I only hope this tension dissolves quickly and not blow up like a war. And I also hope, I wouldn't get into trouble for publishing my views in regard to the war, as I am doubtful, from many incidents in recent times, a fundamental right like 'Right for Speech and Expression' still exists!

My first few days in NITT...

"Two years of my invaluable college life becomes history."

That statement was meant to tell you as well as to remind myself about the 'past' which went past at an incredible pace. Blimey! I had (and continue to have) a debonair period at NITT. My stay here (NITT) was blissful and complete in all respects. It was the real place for learning where I got lot of people to interact with and share my notions. Well, there were many facilities which I (shamelessly say) saw for the first time. To list a few- a computer centre with LAN, a classroom of very large size (Oops,haven't measured it), a mini shopping centre, other facilities from an ATM to a Hospital (though all can be rated mediocre). Anyways I should appreciate the efforts taken by the present Director and his commitment to them.

I was an innocent, short, lean boy when I set foot in NITT for counseling on 7th July,2006. I was initially very apprehensive and the mixed opinion of the parents present there, about the department and college to be chosen, drove me mad. I had only one thought in my mind "I am going to decide my career". This was the point in my life where I was solely responsible for my career. It was that click against Production engineering in Form-1 which lead me to the entry into this prestigious institute. My first thought after the admission was "I should thank Him. My future is settled". I was allotted a room in AGATE on the same day and was informed to report in college on the 17th.

I got down from Rockfort express, at thiruverambur, along with my father on 17th morning and took an auto to NITT. I reached the hostel (AGATE) at 7 am and met some of my old friends on the way to my room. Upon reaching the room I started unpacking my luggage and arranged the things. All my roommates were eagerly getting ready for the introduction ceremony in barn. After a quick chat with them I continued with my work. I got ready within an hour and went to the mess with my father. After tasting the food he bade good bye to me and left. The ceremony was scheduled at 10:30 and I looked forward for it.

The first two days configured my college life. We ( all the first year students) were taken to some important facilities in college; The Octagon, Library, Sports centre, Silver Jubilee Building, Barn. We went to our respective departments and introduced ourselves to the seniors and in that way I had a lot of new acquaintances. In hostel I met a few of my school friends and got a lot of new friends as well. In these two days(17th and 18th) I luxuriated my room, rejoiced at the facilities available, tasted the tasteless (well, not all that bad then) mess food, called up home from the booth in AGATE, slept early at night.

On the third day (19th) were the classes scheduled and by the time (8:25am) I went to the lecture hall most of the benches were occupied except a few rows in front. I had to place myself at the first bench opposite the doorway along with two fellow-mates. I checked up the time table and to my astonishment saw the day was full but for a couple of periods at the end.

Sharp at 8:30 a short ,slim, clad in saree, average looking woman entered the class with a stern look on her face. We (students) felt something cold sinking in us and lost the hope of a 'free period' that day. But the woman, from CEESAT department, showed more interest in taking attendance than to start away with a topic. She selected the Class Representative quickly, lingered for about 45 minutes and swiftly walked out of the class at 9:15! We squeezed out of the pair of doorways (no, they weren't narrow) for refreshing ourselves.

The event less day had a blemish in the form of Engineering Drawing period (theory!). When the clock ticked 9:20 all faces turned surly (end of the break of course) and unexpectedly entered a short, stocky, oily haired (though neatly combed), formally dressed-up man; whose red and swollen eyes told he had not slept properly just to put us through a nice slumber. He claimed himself to be a faculty from production engineering department (don't want to reveal the name) and said he was going to handle the subject (not exactly a subject though!) for the whole semester. This was the first moment when I felt the similarity between school and college. His proficient talk sent everybody to sleep but for a few anxious pedantic mammals, who were more than eager for a lecture like that. After all his babbles (honestly that was what majority of us felt) we were more than thankful for the director to have reduced the number of lecture hours per day. It seemed like an era, when all of a sudden I realized he was taking attendance and I had already missed my roll number. When he reluctantly walked out of the class I had to run behind him to get the slash against my name and had to bear the dirty face he threw at me for being so irresponsible on the very first day. The class had dispersed even before I could get back and I, notwithstanding the hectic schedule, was anticipating a feast at mess but sadly it turned out to be ordinary.

That evening I and my friends celebrated the birthday of one of my fellow creatures in the hostel. We surprised him with a cake and a small party with our hostel warden as the chief guest (famous for the relationship he shares with few boys...lolz). It was just 2 am (20th) when we actually planned to sleep but due to some unconditional reasons got held up and slept only at 3.30 am. All along it was not a pleasant day for me and, before I could sleep, all those sour instances streaked through my mind. At last, a wide smile cut across my face as I thought about visiting home the next week and said to myself "No wonder, its always a sweet home".

'FireWalk' by 'Super-Models' from DELL and ACER

Do you have a penchant for sleek and stylish laptops? Well, if you have the yen, then the immediate questions that i throw are:

What do you know about a laptop?
How much do you know?
Can you decide upon your laptop configuration now?

But these questions are cakewalk for younger generations of the present :p.

So, the most unheard-of (at least by many of you) question is:
Can you wild-guess, what are all the tests a laptop has to clear to get certified?
Lemme tell you B-). Wait! wait! Don't get 'red'. I can see.....

..."I am in no position to listen to your shit right now and you better get it straight x-("...

.....is all in your mind.
Anyways, I hope this interesting piece will bring a simper on your churlish face.

One of the ample answers, for the so said unheard-of question, is a 'FIREWALK'. You may associate it with- RAMP-WALK or CAT-WALK -but its just walking 'on' a laptop(WHAT ! Can u believe it :-o?).

ELCOT (ELectronics COrporation of Tamilnadu,limited) has announced a 'STUDENT LAPTOP SCHEME 2008' for the academicians of Tamil Nadu (only).
When I went through ELCOT website I found this thought-kindling datum and thought I would share the bit with you. ELCOT has conducted the usual (though novel for me:-/) firewalk test on the 'specimen' laptops supplied to them by the prominent laptop manufacturers; DELL and ACER. Representatives from Dell and Acer walked 'on' the products (both Dell and Acer lappys; a piece each; and were already switched 'on') placed on the floor(it was clean i suppose!). The upshot of the trial set forth the effects of their weights on the laptops. However, both representatives could log on to their laptops after their walk and the lappys passed the test! (Thankfully DELL did:p). This is the second firewalk test on DELL and ACER laptops by ELCOT and the fact that they had cleared the first time (also) is notable(hmmm...really..).

The video will have audio in Tamil. I believe language is not a barrier for viewing a video ;). So, be the first one to walk the 'FIREWALK' way to test your laptops and see for yourself whether your laptop can 'take on you' as well as 'take you on'!

Well, a lotta things happened during this period. The most important thing is my In-plant training in HAL-HD, Bangalore. Okay!okay, HD stands for Helicopter Division. I underwent the training along with another 'creature' (don't mind da KRA) who arranged it. I understood more about Bangalore than what I learned in the training. One will really suffer in a cosmopolitan city if:

the connectivity sucks
ticket fares of public transports are phenomenal (even they break the record of first show ticket rates of the most anticipated film of the year)
the citizens are slumberous
auto meters run at variable pace
the people are not conversant in any language

Well, they are just a handful(!) and you will have to visit bangalore to believe that.

When I retrospect the incidents, I don't regret the stay, after all everybody will have a 'learning' period in their life. For the first time in my college life I realized practical learning. The magnanimous campus of HAL made me to learn. Though there was no proper guidance ,three weeks of roaming did the needful(including leg pain:-P,but I suppose my partner lost a lotta 'fat').

Basically,HD of HAL is a production facility with capacity of producing over 100 helicopters an year. It is the undisputed leader at producing helicopters in ASIA. It currently manufactures Advanced Light Helicopter( known as DHRUV),Cheetah,Chetak,Cheetal,Chetan. HAL has design centre for helicopters (RWRDC- Rotary Wing Research and Design Centre) and they have developed prototypes of many other helicopters.

BUT only after three weeks of ceaseless work schedule:P (only KRA and GOD know) did we put an end to it and came back to SQUARE ONE. YEP u got it!we bunked the training and started semi-typing(pardon me ENGLISH LITERATURE, for using such inane words) the report. Yeah, we used 'significant skills' to make the 40 pages thick booklet. Honestly,I and KRA typed out what we imbibed in the ratio 1:4 respectively, which I think, came to 28 pages (Is it correct KRA?) . Then to our disappointment the report wasn't even skimmed by the deputy manager of personnel department. Somehow we got our certificates and I know its PRESTIGIOUS!

Hah what a title! I don't know what to say about this. Have you ever wondered how many stars are there in the universe? A German scientist calculated it to be 70 sextillion which is greater than the number of sand particles in all the beaches of the world! But i personally cannot believe it. So here it is,have you ever wondered when is the end of our MOTHER EARTH? Check out this video clip for the answer. Personally I can't believe this also:p. This video will be boring for few minutes and here is MY thought 'ENDURANCE IS THE BEST POLICY',so bear those moments and enjoy the video.Those who have already seen it,never mind,see it again.lolz

Ah! here is my second post after a very long time. Well my second year is over(Semi-Engineer). Studies are getting serious now,so what I have for my juniors is get good GPAs in your first year and maintain it with a decent GPA in your forthcoming years. OhK Enuff of Studies!

oh my god! It is bad to be a seven pointer all along for three semesters.Oh what am i talking? all these pointer things!? no,no no programming language here!Pointer,prefixed by a number, is a college slang. I am a seven pointer because my CGPA is [7,8){you wud have understood that if you are good enuf in Functions and Relations}.Now this doesn't demoralize me coz there are people giving company.:)
Here is one thing common about seven pointers they know what they are doing and they know where they will end up.They have their own pursuits(believe me even I have) and they will succeed.So readers don't refrain yourself after any disappointment in your life but fight till you achieve your target.

Remember there are EXCEPTIONS!:)
