Korean Star Song Hye kyo will debut in the U.S. with a leading role in indie film "Fetish."
Austrian actor Arno Frisch will costar in the movie. Today, Song Hye kyo went to New York to film the movie.

Actress Song Hye-gyo is to debut in the United States through independent movies.

Song has been cast to play a lead in director Sohn Su-beom's first full-length movie "Fetish." It's a psychological thriller about a woman who has unusual skills. Song will play opposite Arno Frisch, who played the lead in "Funny Game."

"Fetish" is a low-budget independent movie, but to Song it will serve as a springboard for her advancement to the U.S. because she will say 80 percent of her lines in English.

The movie's casting director, Susan Shopmaker, said she chose Song because she liked her Asian yet Western image. She added that the movie will reveal a new side of the actress.

Song's agency said the actress's role in the movie will hopefully secure her a spot in the global film industry. From KBS

Song Hye-gyo to Appear on Cover of Vogue Korea

Actress Song Hye-gyo will become the first Korean actress to appear on the cover of the fashion magazine Vogue Korea, to take place in the June edition.

So far, the magazine has published only the photos of world-renowned celebrities and models on its cover.

Song, whose new movie "Hwangjini" will open June 6, is shown in an alluring pose in the cover photo, wearing a traditional Korean wig with one of her shoulders revealed.

During the photo shoot, Song impressed the French production crew every time she appeared in a new traditional Korean costume. The photo shoot's stylist and former fashion editor of Vogue France lauded the traditional Korean costume for its beautiful colors and the modernity of its layered design.

The June issue of Vogue Korea, including an 18-page photo spread of Song, will be published May 20 under the title "Hwangjini in Paris."

Korean actress Song Hye-gyo will attend the Hong Kong Film Awards to present the Best Asian Film award.

The secretariat of the Hong Kong Film Award said that Song’s rising fame around the world makes her the most appropriate presenter for the Best Asian Film award. It added that since Song is extremely popular in Hong Kong, her presence at the award ceremony will be much appreciated by Hong Kong fans.

During the Chinese promotional tour of her TV drama “Full House” last February, Song’s beauty was rated by the press and fans to rival that of celebrated Chinese actresses such as Zhang Ziyi and Cheung Pak Chi.

Song Hye-gyo Sheds Cute Image for Gisaeng Role

The producers of “Hwang Jin-I” on Monday released several still photos from director Chang Yoon-hyun's movie about a Chosun-era gisaeng (a female entertainer) starring Song Hye-gyo and Yoo Ji-tae.

The photos show Song as the character Hwang in various costumes, including that of noble lady, a beautiful and seductive gisaeng, and disguised as a man drinking in an inn. Another features Song in a white underskirt, her extended leg faintly showing through. The other photos include Yoo Ji-tae as Hwang's first lover Nomi and Ryu Seung-yong as a local governor who supports Hwang. "Song Hye-gyo's deep eyes and attractive figure show that she has transformed from a cute young girl into a true woman," the publicity materials gushed.

“Hwang Jin-I” started shooting on a set in Paju in Gyeonggi Province last July. It took 194 days to make the film. Other locations for the lavish production included the Korean Folk Village in Youngin, Buan, Andong, Yangpyeong, Namsangol Traditional Village in Seoul, the Seonam Temple in Suncheon, and Mt. Kumgang in North Korea.

The film has gained considerable attention, fueled by last year’s TV drama with the same name starring another popular actress, Ha Ji-won, and the fact that it is Song’s first stab at a period film.

"Hwang Jin-I" is in its final stages and is scheduled for release on June 6.

Actress Song Hye-kyo and singer/actor Rain visit China to promote their drama "Full House," which aired on KBS 2TV a few years ago in Korea.

They leave Seoul Thursday for a 3-day visit to Hunan, China, where a news conference and a fan meeting are scheduled ahead of the drama's local airing.

Song's manager Na Byung-jun of Sidus HQ says inquiries by Chinese fans about their visit are pouring in.

The hit drama was exported to 14 countries including Thailand, the Philippines and Taiwan.

Actress Song has recently finished filming her latest movie, a film about the famous Korean courtesan Hwang Jini, while Rain is on his global concert tour.
