(Halifax, NS) – Please be advised that due to a medical emergency, the Joel Plaskett Emergency will fill in for April Wine at the Q104 Quarter Century Concert at the Cunard Centre tonight at 8 p.m. April Wine’s Myles Goodwyn collapsed in the Montreal airport this morning and is now at a hospital under observation, forcing the band to cancel tonight’s performance. The rest of the show will continue as planned with the Joel Plaskett Emergency at 8 p.m., followed by Matt Mays & El Torpedo, Sam Roberts Band and 54-40. This show is restricted to ages 19 and over. Doors open at 7 p.m. and there is no re-entry.

(Halifax, NS) – After a successful tour of Canada and US, Great Big Sea will return home to perform in support of their GOLD-selling, ninth-studio release Fortune’s Favour during a tour of Atlantic Canada, March 11 to 14. Special guest is Spirit of the West. Dates include:

Released in June, Fortune’s Favour was produced by JUNO-award winning singer/songwriter/producer Hawksley Workman and features 14 songs recorded in the fall of 2007 at Great Big Studios in St. John’s. The album’s first single, “Walk On The Moon,” celebrates remarkable personal achievements and became the soundtrack for a series of Olympic highlight videos posted on Youtube by fans. The group’s latest single, “Love Me Tonight”, was released to radio this month.

The Toronto Star said the album, “...balances high gloss and the band's well established folk preferences, Fortune's Favour benefits as much from the attention paid to the vocal work – harmonies are big, bright and robust – as to the instrumentation and the architecture of the songs.”

In a testament to the band’s success, every album they have recorded has now been certified GOLD or PLATINUM in Canada. After over 15 years together as a band, GBS (as they are affectionately known by their fans) have built a rabid following and unfailing reputation as one of Canada’s finest live acts.

Together for 25 years, Vancouver’s Spirit of the West released their anthology Spirituality: A Consummate Compendium 1983 – 2008 earlier this year. Upon its release, the album was in the Top 10 on iTunes.ca and Amazon.com and the band was also inducted into the Western Canadian Music Association's 'Hall of Fame' in October.

(Fredericton, NB) – After headlining their own cross Canada tours, the Sam Roberts Band and Matt Mays & El Torpedo will join forces for a performance at the UNB SUB Cafeteria in Fredericton on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 9 p.m. Special guest is In-Flight Safety.

Released in May 2008, the Sam Roberts Band’s Love at the End of the World (Universal) debuted at number one on the Canadian album chart and features the single “Them Kids.” The video for the song took home the 2008 MuchMusic Video Award for Best Post-Production.

Canoe.ca said, “...plenty of bluesy boogie and artsy roots, which fuses with the warm, reverby production to connect the dots between Wilco and The Kinks.” Montreal’s Hour said, “You're not going to see Roberts put out a poor album - his understanding of the idiom is too strong and you're never left with the feeling that he didn't achieve exactly what he wanted to achieve with each and every song.”

Love at the End of the World is the follow up to 2006’s Chemical City which included the single “Bridge to Nowhere” and took home the 2007 JUNO Award for Video of the Year. Roberts’ debut full-length We Were Born in a Flame (2003) took home the 2004 JUNO Awards for Album of the Year, Rock Album of the Year and Artist of the Year and featured the singles “Where Have All The Good People Gone” and “Hard Road”.

Matt Mays & El Torpedo’s latest album Terminal Romance (Sonic Records) hit stores nationally in July. Among the 11 new tracks is the first single “Tall Trees” which hit the top 10 at Canadian Rock Radio and the latest single “Building a Boat” is currently climbing the charts.

The Ottawa Citizen said, “Brimming with electric guitars and expressive rock anthems, Terminal Romance is a triumph for Mays and his band.” The Montreal Gazette said, “...a surging beast of a band that milks Mays' songs for every drop of sweat."

Terminal Romance is the follow up to Matt Mays & El Torpedo’s 2005 breakthrough self-titled debut. The album featured the single “Cocaine Cowgirl” which became one of the top played songs at Canadian Rock Radio that year. (St. John’s, NL) – Due to an overwhelming demand, critically acclaimed and 2008 Polaris Music Prize nominee Stars have added a second show at Club One in St. John’s on Tuesday, Nov. 4 in addition to the previously scheduled show on Monday, Nov. 3 at 10 p.m.

Having received a 2004 and 2005 JUNO Award nomination for Alternative Album of the Year for their previous releases Heart and Set Yourself on Fire, Montreal’s Stars have received international recognition for their 2007 follow up In Our Bedroom After the War (Arts & Crafts).

The album was shortlisted for the 2008 Polaris Music Prize, an annual award which honours, celebrates and rewards creativity and diversity in Canadian recorded music by recognizing albums of the highest artistic integrity. The winner is chosen by a panel of selected critics and experts from across the country.

NME Magazine said of the album, “Their sweet, lovelorn glide is what sets Stars apart...emotions here run from gentle melancholy through to ebbing sorrow, but there’s still time for euphoria too...Stars are rewriting the textbook on romance with effortless glee.”

JUNO Award-winner David Usher with special guest Crash Parallel to perform at the Rebecca Cohn in Halifax, Oct. 20

Singer-songwriter David Usher will perform in support of his upcoming release Wake Up and Say Goodbye (Maple Music), in stores on Sept. 23, during a full band performance at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax on Monday, October 20 at 8 p.m. Special guest is Crash Parallel.

For his solo work and with his band Moist, Usher has won five JUNO Awards, including Pop Album of the Year in 2002. He has had ten singles hold the number one spot on Canadian radio, another ten reach the Top 10 and had ten Top 20 singles in England, Germany, Switzerland, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Poland, Russia, Hungary, Sweden, Austria, Czech Republic, Israel, Greece, Italy, France, The Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan.

The follow up to his 2007 release Strange Birds, Wake Up and Say Goodbye is Usher's sixth solo record. Included on the album is the first single "Kill the Lights," featuring Quebec superstar Marie-Mai. Though heavily involved in the production of all his records, Wake Up and Say Goodbye is Usher's first entirely self-produced release.

After Moist disbanded, Usher ventured out on his own with 1998's Little Songs. His followed it up with 2001's Morning Orbit which featured the hit singles "Black Black Heart" and "Alone in the Universe". Alongside his musical efforts, Usher has also participated in a variety of projects benefiting with Warchild, Amnesty International and the Make Poverty History campaign.

Toronto-based, pop-rock quartet Crash Parallel was formed three years ago by singer/songwriter Tim Edwards and songwriter/guitarist Dan Saitua who were later joined by bassist Gary Rugula and drummer John Vitellaro. Their debut full-length album World We Know was released in May. The title track is currently at Adult-Contemporary Radio while the video for the follow up single "Rain Delays" is charting on the MuchMoreMusic "Countdown."

Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter and also a member of Toronto's JUNO Award winning indie-rock collective Broken Social Scene, Jason Collett will perform in support of his latest solo release Here's to Being Here during an intimate show at the Seahorse Tavern in Halifax on Saturday, Sept. 27 at 10 p.m.

Released in February, Here's to Being Here (Arts & Crafts) is Collett's fourth solo effort and the follow up to 2005's alt-country hit Idols of Exile. Legendary Canadian musician Daniel Lanois to perform at the Marquee Club, Oct. 18

Critically acclaimed, Grammy Award-winning musician and producer Daniel Lanois will perform in support of his latest release Here Is What Is, the soundtrack to his feature-length documentary of the same name, at the Marquee Club in Halifax on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 9 p.m.

Having produced some of the most heralded albums, including U2’s The Unforgettable Fire, The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby and All That You Can’t Leave Behind, Peter Gabriel’s Birdy and Bob Dylan’s Oh Mercy, Lanois has achieved success as a musician in his own right. His debut Acadie featured guest appearances by Lanois’ mentor and friend Brian Eno and was recently ranked the twentieth greatest Canadian record of all time in Robert Mersereau’s book “The Top 100 Canadian Albums.”

Here Is What Is, Lanois’ fifth studio album, was first released digitally in December 2007 and the CD followed in March 2008. The album includes performances from the documentary in their entirety. The “Here Is What Is” documentary was directed by Lanois, Adam Vollick and Adam Samuels and premiered to rave reviews at the 2007 Toronto Film Festival. The film features performances by musical greats, including The Band’s Garth Hudson, Brian Eno, U2 and Emmylou Harris as well as Lanois in the studio.

Exclaim Magazine said, “The movie is stylish, not shallow, and intelligent but not pretentious... ‘Here Is What Is’ is smartly done and accessible to audiences beyond Lanois’ fan base.”

The Trews to perform at the Marquee Club, Sept. 13

Nova Scotia’s own JUNO nominated rock band The Trews will return home to perform in support of their latest release No Time For Later at the Marquee Club in Halifax on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 10 p.m.

Back with their latest release, No Time For Later (2008), The Trews turned to Gus Van Go and Werner F (Priestess/The Stills) for production duties. “Hold Me In Your Arms” hit number one on the MuchMusic Countdown and the video was nominated for the MuchLoud Best Rock Video at the 2008 MuchMusic Video Awards in June.

Produced by Gordie Johnson, the band’s first full-length album House of Ill Fame hit stores in 2003. The record spawned multiple hit singles including “Every Inambition", "Tired of Waiting" "Fleeting Trust" and "Confessions". "Not Ready to Go" went on to hit number one on Canadian rock radio and was the most played song of 2004. (Halifax, NS) – Akron, Ohio’s rock n’ roll duo The Black Keys have been added to the line up for SUMMERSONIC, Sonic Concerts’ first annual outdoor music festival, at the Garrison Grounds on Citadel Hill in Halifax on Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20.

Consisting of guitarist-vocalist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney, The Black Keys are touring in support of their recently released fifth full length album Attack & Release (April 2008). Known for their concentrated, hermetic approach to recording with rudimentary equipment in an unfinished basement or in a vacant rubber factory to create terse but soulful rock, Attack & Release is the group’s first to be recorded outside their familiar environs.

The band was praised by Rollingstone, Entertainment Weekly and Blender for their self described “wide-eyed, post-punk”. Prior to their stop in Halifax, the group will tour Europe and perform at the Ottawa Blues Fest.

Winners of the 2008 JUNO Award for New Group of the Year, Halifax’s Wintersleep recently returned from touring the UK with Vancouver’s Black Mountain and released their latest album Welcome to the Night Sky in Japan. The band received international attention for the record’s first single “Weighty Ghost” and the video received a 2008 MMVA nomination for Best Independent Video. Feist to perform in Saint John, Nov. 6

The 2008 Juno Awards in Calgary this past weekend saw Calgary native Feist take home an astounding five awards in various categories, including

Feist to perform in Halifax, Nov 7

(Halifax, NS) -- Nine-time JUNO award-winner, Feist is set to perform in Halifax at the Metro Centre on Friday, Nov. 7 as part of her recently announced Canadian National tour, in support of her award-winning album The Reminder.

Grady to tour Atlantic Canada, April 15-20

(Halifax, NS) – Award-winning, Texas-based, southern-metal trio Grady will perform in support of their latest release A Cup of Cold Poison during a tour of Atlantic Canada, April 15th to 20th. Dates include:

Fronted by vocalist/guitarist Gordie “Grady” Johnson, formerly of Canadian rock band Big Sugar, Grady’s hard-rock sound is rounded out with Big Ben on bass and Nina Singh on drums. The band has received critical acclaim and taken home multiple Austin Music Awards including Best New Band in 2005.

Recorded at Willie Nelson’s Perdernales Studio and released on Fontana North/Maple Music in June 2007, Grady’s sophomore release A Cup of Cold Poison features 13 new tracks. This follow up to their debut album Y.U. So Shady includes guest appearances by Willie Nelson, Alejandra Escovedo and Newfoundland’s own man of a thousand songs, Ron Hynes.

Alongside his duties in Grady, Johnson produced Joel Plaskett Emergency’s latest release Ashtray Rock which took home seven 2008 East Coast Music Awards this past February.
