It’s that awkward time when I know I have neglected my blog, I would like to come back, but I don’t know if I should just pretend I wasn’t MIA for a few weeks and resume my regular posting schedule without fanfare, or apologize to you all for depriving you of the joy of my posting and swear that I have returned to stop your pain. The latter seems more than a little stuck up, but the former just doesn’t sit right, so here’s my awkward apology-slash-announcement of my imminent return:

The Flowers

Sonja made all of the bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres herself. The flowers were purchased from Michael’s craft store: wine-colored hydrangeas for the bride’s bouquet, white hydrangeas for the bridesmaids’ bouquets, white silk ranunculus flowers for the corsages and white silk rosebuds for the boutonnieres.

If you’re just joining me, each Wednesday is kind of a look back on our wedding, in the form of the wedding album expertly crafted for us by Lisa, Robbie’s wonderful and talented sister. You can check out her other work here. It’s pretty amazing stuff!

One vellum envelope holds the penny, and the other envelope holds a piece of ribbon from the bouquet.

Text: Sonja wore a flower crown (instead of a veil) that was hand-made to order through the ebay website. On the day of the wedding, Sonja taped a penny in her shoe that Robbie’s mother had given her as a part of an engagement present. The year on the penny was 2003, the year that Sonja and Robbie got engaged.

Weekly Fatass, Edition 9

Week 3 of P90X kicked my butt like I thought it probably would. I didn’t have the motivation to get through everything like I needed to. With my lifestyle, it pretty much has to be morning or not at all, and that’s easy to forget when you’re sleeping on your deluxe super-comfy extra special mattress in the morning, all warm and nice.

So, Week 4 is recommitting. I have to admit, since Week 4 is a recovery week, I thought I’d have it a little easier. Ha. Haha. Did the Core Synergistics workout this morning, which kicked my sorry butt.

Have also been going to Gyrotonic with Jen once a week, which gets progressively harder every week, and I like that because I’m a badass. (heh.)

This week, besides recommitting to the workout, my focus is going to be on recording my food intake. I haven’t been worrying about it much in the first month because, you know, my brain can’t handle too many healthy habits at once. But it’s the end of Week 3 and the weight I gained when I started this workout program is not coming off, and that leads me to believe that my diet is at least partly to blame. So, no “dieting” per se this week, just recording. I’m hoping that the chore of having to record everything will keep me from mindlessly snacking. If that’s enough, great! If not, I’ll have to start planning and watching and counting, which I hate, but it works.

As much as I say, “I am one with my fat ass,” I’m really not. I would like it to go away, please. Workin’ on it.

#7 Take An Art Class: Done!

People, I made art. And I don’t hate it. I might hang it up in my house. This is a big deal.

So, originally I had put “take an art class” on my goal list as a way for me to take a formal set of classes and maybe learn a skill– and I may still do that sometime. Wine & Design was not that, but I think it still counts, especially since I ended up with a piece of art done completely by me– that I don’t hate.

I found Wine & Design through a Living Social deal– $17 for a normally $35 evening of making art and drinking. You provide your own wine, they provide everything else. It’s totally fun.

You begin by picking a date based on what you want to paint. Everyone paints the same thing. I chose Van Gogh’s almond blossoms, and then begged and pleaded my Twitter followers to come along with me. The fabulous Mari Freeman stepped up!

The hardest part of the whole process, I think, was starting. I was deathly afraid that I would mess something up. It’s paint! And canvas! And I have never painted on canvas in my life! This is where the wine came in. One or two glasses of Pinot Grigio in and I was raring to go.

Mari and I chatted and drank and painted, and two hours later, we were the proud artists of two similar but distinctly different paintings.

Great evening, lots of fun, and I recommend it if you have such a place in your area! I’m sure I will be going back again.

And all the new artists went home with their paintings and lived happily ever after.

#27 Say “yes” to something I normally wouldn’t: DONE!

Bet you’re wondering what I said “yes” to, right? A hard rock concert. Now, I’m cheating a little, because Robbie asked me to go to said hard rock concert with him, and I would do just about anything if Robbie asked me to do it… However, left to my own devices, a hard rock concert is not on my short list.

We went to the Carnival of Madness, featuring 10 Years, Sevendust, Puddle of Mudd, Chevelle, and Shinedown.

The venue was pretty awesome– the new Raleigh Amphitheater, right downtown in front of the shimmer wall.

But, notice that there is no shade, anywhere. Also note that it was 113 degrees (that’s regular temperature, not heat index temperature) on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. when the concert started. It was hot. Each band noted the hot, with varying degrees of colorful adjectives. But the consensus was that it was hot. We survived.

Robbie has declared me uncool because I liked Puddle of Mudd the best out of the opening acts. Apparently they are way too mainstream for me to like and then get cool points. So, since I am not allowed to claim Puddle of Mudd as my favorite (even though they were), I declare Sevendust my acceptably cool favorite of the opening acts, mostly because the drummer (Morgan Rose) can do the metal scream like I have never heard in my life. Also, their bassist (Vince Hornsby) was a total performer and kept blowing kisses and pointing at the audience and stuff.

Shinedown was awesome. Not sure if it was because they had all the cool effects– I guess that was part of it. But, they were also really good performers. Exciting moment of the night? Brent Smith, lead singer, came down in the audience and stood right in front of Robbie and me. Both of us were too stunned to take pictures. But it happened– promise.

So, the moral of this story? Go ahead, say “yes” to something you normally wouldn’t. You’ll get a new experience out of it and you might even have some fun in the process!
