Holland Tour confirmed for January 2011

Hello everyone! Hope you're doing well! I recently received the news of another tour in Holland! Beginning January 28th, 2011, the DWB will be performing shows in The Netherlands with the same musicians as the tour in August and September, 2010. Which consists of Sonny Hunt - guitar and vocals, Dick Stam - bass guitar and vocals, Han Neijenhuis - drums, Rory de Kievit - guitar, and Leif de Leeuw - guitar. On October 20th of this year, Rory de Kievit took 1st place in the Steve Vai guitar competition in The Netherlands! Of course, Steve Vai was one of the judges, and the following weekend, Rory was interviewed by Steve Vai himself! Congratulations Rory! Proud of you brother! End of November, 2009, Leif de Leeuw, age 14 at the time, took 1st place in the Sena Dutch Guitar Awards, also in The Netherlands! Quite an accomplishment for such a young guitarist! Congratulations Leif! Proud of you too brother! The DWB will have a Live CD coming out soon! the recording took place during our last performance on September 5th of this year, at Cafe De Noot in Holland. We will post the release date as soon as the CD is mixed and mastered. I'm looking forward to my 9th trip to Holland to jam with my good friends in the DWB! I have a world of respect for all of them as musicians, and for just the good people they are! Also looking forward to seeing all my Dutch friends again! Dank U Wel for all your support!! Winner "Naked Tracks" Rory de Kievit at Steve Vai Festival Oosterpoort

Rory de Kievit, who's a regular guest in my Dutch band, took part in the Steve Vai Naked Tracks Contest in The Netherlands. He turned out to be one of the six finalists to play their version of a Steve Vai composition on October 20th in venue De Oosterpoort in Groningen for an audience and a jury. The jury consisted of Marcel Mandos (artistic director of Noord Nederlands Orchestra), Michiel Roelse (editor of guitar magazine De Gitarist), Co de Kloet of NTR and Steve Vai himself! After a blistering final the jury announced Rory, who did a brilliant performance of Steve Vai's The Crying Machine, the winner of the contest. Congratulations Rory!!!

One of the best Holland tours yet!

Hi everyone! I returned home last tuesday night from one of the best tours in Holland since touring with Tony Spinner back in 04 and 05! Adding Leif de Leeuw, a talented 15 year old guitarist from Holland, really seemed to complete the line up which consists of Dick Stam, bass guitar and vocals, Han Neijenhuis on drums, Rory de Kievet on guitar and yours truely on guitar and vocals. The DWB only had one rehearsal for the tour, but with the excitement of the two young guitarists Rory and Leif, everyone was energized and ready to jam. And yes, there were some great ones! Rory and Leif showed taste, patience, and respect along with a professional attitude while playing with the band. Dick, Han and I, did the same in return. And why not, they deserved it as well as they played! The DWB received good reviews while we were touring. The audience seemed to really enjoy three guitarists playing off each other while improvising. When it came time for one to solo, nothing was rehearsed. Only spur of the moment ideas were passed around, and if it flowed, we went with it! Now that's the way it should be done! There's several clips on Utube music, under my name that was recorded during the Bluesmoose Radio Show, along with clips from other venues. Would love to have you check them out and let me know what you think! We also should have a live CD out soon, which was recorded during our last show in Holland. I will post the info here and on www.sonnyhunt.com once it's completed. Next year should be a busy one for the DWB. Some of the venues we played, would like for us to return next year, along with a festival now and then while promoting our new live CD! Holland Tour begins August 28th!

Hello everyone! On August 24th, I depart for The Netherlands for a two week tour with The DWB! It's been since September of 2008, that I had the pleasure of jamming with my buds, Dick, Han and Rory in Holland. Speaking of Rory de Kievit, we will also have another young talented guitarist joining us! His name is Leif de Leeuw. He, along with Rory, have turned a lot of heads in Holland. Hello everyone, It's been a while since I've posted a blog. I've been busy playing gigs in Nashville and just living life in general. I received some good news from my friends at DDA Agency in Holland a couple of weeks ago. They have booked some shows for The Dirty White Boys this fall! I'll be working with the same musicians as the last Holland tour, Dick Stam, bass guitar and vocals along with Han Neijenhuis on drums. My friend Tony Spinner will also be touring in Holland while I'm there. We will do some shows together, Tony with his band and myself with the DWB. I'm also excited and honored to have the oppurtunity to be a part of the 2nd annual Guitar Greats Festival, which will consist of the legendary Jan Akkerman along with Tony Spinner, King Mo and Sonny Hunt and the DWB. New Instrumentals Recorded at Creekhouse Recording Studio

The 3 new instrumentals posted on my site were recorded at Creekhouse Recording Studio, here in west Nashville. Check out the studio on my top friends list! Tom and Julianne Drenon are the owners. James Cook and Tom engineered the project, and they both helped me in the production. Professional attitude, sound and atmosphere, along with reasonable rates! James Cook is also in my top friends. He’s a great engineer with plenty of knowledge and experience! Musicians on all 3 cuts consists of my cousin, Jim Moose Brown on keyboards along with Keith Horne on Bass and Tom Drenon on Drums. Working with these guys along with James as an engineer and producer, was an absolute thrill for me! We’re talking serious talent here!! I learned a lot from them! DWB Tour 2008 in The Netherlands!

With this being the sixth trip I've made to Holland in the last four years, it has to be one of the best yet! Dick, Han and I had one day to brush up on the material we recorded last fall. The next day, off we went to promote the new DWB cd titled, "Nashville Blues Sessions." We performed six shows while I was there. During four of the six shows, a young upcoming guitarist in Holland, who also played on two cuts on our new cd, joined us on stage! His name is Rory de Kievit. He's 17 years of age and a senior in high school! Rory and his band, who he plays with in Holland, are absolutely unbelieveable! All the guys are the same age as Rory or younger! KUDOS to these young TALENTED musicians! Also performing on the DWB CD, is my good friend Tony Spinner. Tony plays on two cuts. His performance and tone is fantastic as usual! I can't say enough about the performance of my good friends, Dick Stam and Han Niejenhuis! They gave it all they had. We all did! All the shows including our CD party at Culemborg Blues and the radio show at WOS - Live Alive, was successful! We sold quite a few CDs while I was there. A time to forgive and forget

Tis the season to reach down deep and forgive the ones who have hurt us in some way. In most cases, they are hurting inside themselves. Life can be diffilcult. Times are harder now than they were 20 years ago, or even 10 years ago for that matter. All you have to do is watch the news on TV! Unbelieveable what goes on in the world these days! All I know to do anymore, is just make the best out of every single day God gives us. I believe that's what he would want us to do. To help our brothers and sisters, using our best judgement, knowledge and experience to make a difference in someone's life. So the next time someone hurts you inside, take time to consider what could be hurting them inside. That might be the only way they know how to say, "I'm hurting, please help me!" New DWB CD completed for Holland Tour in January

The last couple of months I've been very busy recording with The DWB, Mia Jones and No Luv, and trying to finish some of my own material. Along with the sessions, I'm still gigging a lot with Mia Jones and Kecia Burcham. A lot to be thankful for this time of year! The DWB CD is ready for duplication! Come the middle of January, I'll travel to Holland to meet Dick Stam and Han Niejenhuis to promote the CD. We wanted to have a "live feel" to the recordings. So there's a few drop notes and a stumble from time to time, but I know we can reproduce the chemistry we had in the studio. Very important to us! Tony Spinner, great guitarist and friend, along with Rory de Kievit, a young talented guitarist from Holland, plays on two cuts each. What a performance from these guys, They Rock! The CD was recorded at Creekhouse Recording Studio here in Nashville. Good friends of mine, Tom and Julianne Drenon own the place. If you're looking for great production, reasonable rates, and a great vibe, this is the studio! Check them out! They're on my top friends list. James Cook engineered and helped me produce the CD along with Tom. These guys are pros to say the least! James is also on my top friends list. This will be my sixth trip to Holland since 2004. My first year in Nashville

What a learning experience it has been! I spent my first three months checking out several guitar jams around town. Blues jams in particular. Met a lot of folks and some good players. In December of last year, I joined up with Mia Jones and No Luv. As a Country Rock band, I was able to keep working on my Rock chops while learning Country Guitar at the same time. We've played a lot since I joined. Venues like The Gibson Showcase, Wildhorse Saloon, and on Broadway, (in the heart of Music City.) I've also played in Printers Alley at The Fiddle and Steel, (well known guitar bar here in town.) Also several songwriter's venues with Kecia Burcham. I've about got the intimidation factor out of my system, until I have to get up after a great player and then it starts all over again! I love living here! My guitar playing has improved so much in the past year. The main reason is because, if I need inspiration, or if I think I'm better than what I really am, all I have to do is go out and hear a great player in town and it's back to the woodshed again! That has been the key for my desire to become a better player. Which means practice, practice and more practice! As a musician, I can't think of a better place to be, than in Nashville Tennessee! Back to the studio to work on my second CD!

On May 28th, I begin basic tracks on some instrumentals I've written over the past six months, at a recording studio here in Nashville. Living here since last August, it seems Country Music is sneaking it's way into my guitar style at times. To categorize the new stuff, I would label it as "Country Rock." I can't wait to get started! The Dirty White Boys to record here in Nashville!

Come this September, The DWB will record a new CD here in Nashville. The plans are to record the CD in my new home studio, which should be completed by that time. (Well, I do live in the eastern part of Music City!) Dick and Thomas will fly across the Atlantic to record, and I will meet them in my basement. What a sacrifice! Remember, it's all for the music! We hope to have the CD completed by the middle of October, so I can meet them in The Netherlands to promote it! Two wonderful weeks in The Netherlands filled with music and friends!

The past two weeks here in Holland has been simply fantastic! During the Sonny Hunt and Dirty White Boys Rockin Blues Tour 2007, we performed 5 shows in addition to a radio interview at WOS. Dick, Thomas and I gave it (our all) every performance, and it seemed to pay off! We were well accepted by the audience and asked to perform again sometime this fall. We performed as a Bluesrock trio during the tour, which means guitar solos were a dime a dozen, quite a workout! I'll have pictures of some of our shows posted soon. My First Nashville Gig!

A couple of weeks ago, while advertising through Craiglist, I made contact with a band here in Nashville needing a lead guitarist. After sending me a songlist, along with a couple of days learning their material, we met for an audition.Everything seemed to fall into place. We all seemed comfortable with one another and had a good night making music. The band, "Mia Jones And No Luv," consists of a talented female vocalist along with some fine players that I know I will enjoy playing with. I also know that working with a Country/Southern Rock band will be a great learning experience for me after several years as a Rock player. I played my first gig with the band last monday night at The Gibson Showcase in the Opry Mills Mall for a private party. It was a good first night and we all had a great time. Mourning the loss of a dear friend

On the morning of november 8th, less than a week ago, Gary Grace, a dear friend of mine, passed away of a drug overdose. He was in his mid forties. Gary was a great vocalist and accomplished bassist. We did an album together in the year 2000. Once completed, we promoted the CD with Buzz Fenner, a drummer from our hometown. We named the band "The Heat." We performed shows through out Arkansas, mainly in Little Rock and Jonesboro. Gary wrote, produced and arranged the material on the CD. I will always remember Gary as an artist who always took a lot of pride in his music. We practiced HARD, and it showed! At one time I would say we were one of the tightest bands I ever played with. If life ever starts getting you down, PLEASE don't ever think that drugs will solve your problems. Look to the man up above and pray.Sooner or later he will help you get through it. Hello, I just received news today that a tour in Holland that I've been working on for some time now, has been confirmed! DDA Agency, who we worked with while I was with The Tony Spinner Band, has started booking dates for Sonny Hunt and "The Dirty White Boys" - "Rockin Blues Tour." The band will consist of, Sonny Hunt - guitar and vocals, Dick Stam - bass and lead vocals, Thomas Vermeulen - drums. To my knowledge, the tour will be for about two weeks with about ten shows. NSAI Workshop with Jim "Moose" Brown

On october 14th of this year, cousin Jim "Moose" Brown and I performed at a NSAI workshop in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Hosted by Angie Owens, coordinator of the event, "Moose" talked about his accomplishments as a Grammy Award winning songwriter. He also answered questions from the audience about his songwriting technique. After conversing with the audience about his songwriting skills, "Moose" and I performed some of the songs he's written. Such as "Five o'clock somewhere" and "If something should happen: After the event, "Moose" his wife Jamie, several members of the family and I enjoyed a catfish dinner. A good time was had by all!
