“MY SISTER’S KEEPER”

This is a book written by Jodi Picoult about a family who has a child with ADL Leukemia. In the front of her book Ms. Picoult seems to thank everyone in the world for their help in making her book a success. If you have a family member with any form of leukemia, I strongly recommend you do not bother to waste your time and effort reading this book. It is purely FICTION!!! If you have been following my webpage, my last article entitled “His Name Is Eric” you would realize I know from where I speak when it comes to this book. If you haven’t read my last article, please take the time to do so.

First, this author chooses to leave the most main ingredient out of her book….Our Lord Jesus Christ. Or the mention of any god all together. Secondly, the family seems to forget there are other children involved with their sibling who supposedly is fighting leukemia. All in all, it is a very acceptable fictional story which should have alone one the first page….PURELY FICTIONAL.

There are some many families where they are actually dealing with children suffering from killing cancers this author could have taken the chance to risk herself by becoming a part of a real family and living with them through real experiences.

I pray that God in his infinite wisdom will someday find someone to write a Non-fiction story about a child or children suffering with leukemia or any type of cancer.

10/11/06

HIS NAME IS ERIC
To My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, all the angels in heaven and to the Saints that have gone on before us:
I feel so desperate right now that writing to my Lord and Savior seems a very sensible thing to do. My 13 year old nephew, Eric, was diagnosed in July with AML Leukemia. This is a leukemia that strikes adults and not children or adolescents. But there have been some adolescents that have acquired this disease. At this very moment, Eric is in an isolated room proofed to be free of infectious or viral diseases. Everything that goes into his room must first go through an alcohol wash, including his parents my brother, Walter and his wife, Maggie. Eric is on his 8th day of 8 days worth of chemo treatments to kill all his own blood cells to prepare his for a bone marrow transplant on Thursday, September 28th.

His donor is my other nephew, Eric’s 10 year old brother, Zach. I am a pastor with medical problems which prohibits my ability to fly, so I cannot be with Walt and his family and Lord that breaks my heart. My husband is a minister in a church in Missouri and my brother’s family lives in California. Eric is in fact at the Kaiser Hospital in San Francisco. Ever since he has been in the hospital I have sent him a funny or happy get well card everyday until now. My cards will not make it through the alcohol wash. My brother has stopped any calls going to Eric because he doesn’t have the strength to talk. In fact, he is very, very weak and our prayers are he can hold on through to the transplant.

My husband and I have served many churches in the Midwest and we have called upon those churches to pray for Eric and the whole family. It is hard for me to talk and now even write about Eric, Zach, Maggie and Walt without tears just blinding my view. I myself am a cancer survivor and I know a little of what Eric is going through. From day one I have told Eric he must believe in miracles. That our God is a loving God and he wants Eric to be whole again and that Eric is never alone. I also strongly believe in angels and I’ve told Eric that God has sent a legend of angels to be with him and his family.

If you believe in our Lord Jesus Christ, will you please pray for Eric, Zach, Maggie and Walter. God Bless You.

YOU HAVE A MASS

Every year I have a C-Scan on the follow-up of my cancer; for ten years everything has come out great; but this year was different. I received a call from my doctor’s nurse who said that my cat-scan showed a mass in the intestinal area and that she had made an appointment with a surgeon for the following day. My appointment was at 3:00 p.m. and at 4:30 the surgeon’s nurse said that she was called into surgery. She gave me another appointment two days off. Two days to worry, to pray.

This time I got to see the surgeon. She wanted to do a colonoscopy the next morning. For the rest of that day I only drank water and go-go juice to clean me out. Lord help me, it was horrible! Lord help me…. That was something I said over and over again since I got the first call. I couldn’t have cancer again!

The colonoscopy showed some problems I’ll have to deal with but no cancer. The surgeon ordered another cat-scan after the colonoscopy to check to see if the mass found earlier was still there. The radiologist read the scan as soon as it was completed and guess what------NO MASS was there. Praise God for He does wonderful miracles.

Psalm 103 verses 2 and 3 says it best: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all his benefits—who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases…”

The other medical issues that were found I can deal with, but God knew what I was able to handle and spared me of dealing with cancer again by granting me a miracle. Thanks be to God!

3/27/06
