The Sooz List Winter 2020 Spotify Playlist

It’s time for another playlist. “The Sooz List: Winter 2020” features eight new songs by some of my favorite bands in Boston and beyond. Each song was released in either January or February 2020.

“The Sooz List: March 2020” playlist includes Session Americana’s cover of The Modern Lovers’ song “Roadrunner”, an ode to driving along the highways of Massachusetts in 1976. The song features Dinty Child on vocals with the rest of the band joining him on a raucous Americana-style rendition. Session Americana kicks off touring to show off their new album “Northeast” throughout March 2020 with stops in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. Sounds very Northeast-y.

Listen on Spotify to hear the latest music from these goddamn delightful artists. I’ve especially enjoyed Jenee Halstead, Chuck Prophet and Anna Calvi all releasing new songs the past three months.

I did the event photography for Workbar’s latest installment of their monthly speaker series. May 25th’s topic at their Cambridge coworking location was all about “The New Age of Localized Marketing” with a panel discussion moderated by Venture Fizz editor Colin Barry. Panelists included Drift’s Daniel Murphy, Yelp’s Director of Marketing Damien Smith, Armandina Cueva, a Global Marketing Operations Producer at Netflix, and Eric Groves, co-founder of social media platform for local businesses, Alignable.

Event Photography: Thriving in Boston’s Changing Innovation Economy

Workbar kicked off a monthly speaker series at their Cambridge location with a panel discussion about Boston’s changing innovation economy on February 22nd. The event was moderated by Boston Business Journal’s Technology Reporter, Kelly O’Brien. The panel featured local innovators Larry Kim (CEO of MobileMonkey, Founder of WordStream), Yulkendy Valdez (Co-founder and managing partner of Project 99), Meredith McPherron (Angel Investor/former Director of Harvard Rock Center for Entrepreneurship) and Rich DiTieri (CEO of Startup Institute).

Workbar’s next event in the series is happening on March 22nd: Breakout Discussions with Women in Business – Celebrating Women’s Day.

Photos: On the train from Boston to California

Back in June 2014 when I was thinking about moving to the Bay Area, I took a roundtrip Amtrak train trip from Boston to Emeryville, CA. It was a fun adventure that took 4.5 days out to California and then five days for the trip back. A little less than two months later I moved to Oakland.

Fast forward three years and three months, I’m now planning my move back to Boston. Today I finally uploaded many of the iPhone photos I took during the first part of the 2014 train expedition. The hand-drawn maps are courtesy of Michael.

Aloud’s ‘Falling Out of Love’ VR Music Video Experience

Aloud made their way from Boston to the West Coast in May to promote their virtual reality music video project. And one of those stops included The Unicorn Estate in San Leandro. Event Photography for 2.Oakland Spring Mixer

2.Oakland hosted a spring mixer at The Port Workspaces on April 21st bringing together individuals who are excited to create a thriving tech and innovation community for Oakland and the East Bay. Their events and programs support existing tech companies as well as organizations who would like to relocate to the area.
