Your Baby Can Read: Walmart Edition

I’ll wait.

One of the words on that list was “Wahmart” and it has turned into the next best thing that has graced little man’s mouth since “Dat Natny.” It all started on a random day. A Walmart commercial had come on. You know how all of the Walmart commercials end with “Save money. Live better. Walmart.” and then the logo flashes across the screen? Well, Jayden picked that up and repeated “Wahmart”. Of course we thought that was all sorts of mushy gushy cute.

Fast forward to a few days later. We had muted the TV for a commercial break during American Idol. A Walmart commercial had come on and when the logo flashed, he screamed “Wahmart!” or maybe it was “Momart.” Sometimes he says either or. Fast forward even further to last Sunday. My mother and aunt came over. My aunt was carrying a reusauble Walmart shopping bag. He runs over to her, points to the bag, and exclaims “Wahmart!”

I spent last Monday through Wednesday in NYC with fellow Walmart Moms and company. While there, I was given a reusable Walmart shopping bag which was kind of a big deal since Jayden has this new Walmart obsession. I couldn’t wait to give it to him.

Note: I’m not pregnant, sorry for the confusion! This post is about the pregnancy with our 22 month old.

Seeing those two pink lines instantly appear on the two pregnancy tests I took? Best thing ever. Calling Greg up while he was in class taking a test? Best thing ever. But when Greg and I announced our pregnancy with Jayden, we got some pretty rude comments. The general rule for replying to a pregnancy announcement is saying “Congratulations” or expressing some sort of happiness, no ifs, ands, or buts. These people obviously didn’t get the memo.

Greg: Sheena’s pregnant!
Anonymous: So what are you gonna do?

Me: I’m pregnant!
Anonymous: You know my sister doesn’t have it easy. (“it” referring to parenthood)

And now for the gem.

Warning: I don’t make a habit of cursing (often) on my blog. It’s offensive and unprofessional, but the convo would not be the same if I took them out. I asterisked the F and S bombs at least, happy?

Me: I’m in love and pregnant.
Anonymous: whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat daaaaammm. nooooo sheena.. what the f*ck. watttt. thhhhheeee f*ckkkk..well congradulations

Me: Well damn, THANK YOU!

Anonymous: daaaammmmmm, how do u feel. are u happy,sad?

Me: Errr…happy, why would I not want my own child?

Anonymous: no. of course not goofy. i mean ur in school (college) and everything, don’t want to give u any bad news but life is going to get hard with greg jr. on the way.. awww yall got a little family now

Me: No sh*t, lol. I’m not in school (college) anymore and I’m working at home, so I’ll be a work at home mommy.

Colorful socks. Cute slippers. I just have to have them. So it’s only natural that I dress my little guy in such adorable accessories. Nowali offered to send us a pair of their Swedish moccasins. They fit snug like socks, but they have non-skid slipper bottoms. Let me confess, Jayden isn’t a fan of socks. He snatches them off every chance that he gets, but for some reason, he did not dismiss his froggie moccasins. Could it be because they are visually stimulating? I think so!

Usually, he’ll snatch off his socks to scratch his feet, leaving them behind on the floor. Well, when I replaced his socks with his moccasins, he DID take them off. He let me rub some eczema ointment on his feet and THEN he went to retrieve the moccasins. He ASKED me (in toddlerspeak) to put them back on. I thought to myself, “Whaaat, since when do you want to put your socks back on? Oh wait, these aren’t your everyday white socks with grey heels…” But just like your everyday plain white socks, Nowali moccasins are machine washable. Can you believe that? These mocs definitely rock the socks.

Boogology Jaydenisms

Kids say the darndest things, so does Boogie. Here’s our current list of Boogology Jaydenisms. Say that five times in a row.

Mum-mum: Me and anyone else who will snuggle with him including Daddy.

Ooo Bootee: He says this when referring to his booty.

Pathah: His word for Paci.

Bwead: Bread

Tuhkey: Turkey

Cooktie: Cookie

Cheece: Cheese

Fwies: Fries

Buh buys: Blueberries

Gapes: Grapes

Kittlets: Skittles

Wawa: Water and anything else drinkable.

Nomnom: I want some food.

Ships: Chips

Yellooow!: The first color that he learned how to say. He ran with it and it is still a favorite.

Wahmart: Walmart

I knooow!: He blurts this out at random.

Dom: We think he’s trying to say “come”. He says this whenever he wants us to get up and do something.

Uh oh, got.: When something falls down, if something is dropped, or if the fire alarm sounds, Boogie shows his concern with Uh oh “God”.

Dat Natny!: He says this when anyone cuts the cheese, himself included.

Growth Spurt Alert

Those of you who have been following me at my old blog know how concerned I was with Jayden’s weight. Once we introduced him to solids and he stopped nursing as much, his weight began to flatline. I’d dread going in for his well visits because he was not gaining weight. Being told that he is on the lower end of the charts for his weight (although he looked perfectly fine) got quite annoying. I know those charts are full of it, but growing up skinny (and feeling like a total runt amongst peers and other family members) has made me super conscious about him staying on the charts.

Sometimes I’d miss the days when he was breastfed, he was such a chunkster. Sometimes I wish he’d relapse, and my milk would replenish, just so he’d get that extra nutrition. We put him on vitamins and even made a chart to make sure he was received the proper amounts from each food group. Well, that didn’t last. We just couldn’t keep up, but luckily his appetite began to increase drastically. We didn’t have to worry too much.

He is going through a major growth spurt right now and his requests for everything in the entire kitchen are more than we can handle. We are happy to see him eating so well though. Thank goodness he is not a picky eater. He is partial to “bwead” (bread), “buh byes” (blueberries), “gapes” (grapes), “tuhkey” (turkey), and “ships” (chips) from Wahmart (Walmart). And whatever we’re having, he’ll have some too.

He recently gained 1lb in one week. I am thrilled and amazed! He’s looking rounder. The rolls are back. I certainly have missed squeezing his chunky thighs and snapping photos of those fat ‘lil booty cheeks *shhh*. He’s also gotten taller and his feet sure have grown. I’ve got a feeling we’re going to be picking up a few articles of clothing, soon. Speaking of which, I’m looking to swap size 6-18months clothing for size 24 month footie PJs. Anyone?

Enough About The Mattress Already.

Bizzie Mommy is having a giveaway for a Sealy Posturepedic® Signature 11-Series innerspring mattress and she’s asked bloggers to blog about why they need a new mattress as a way of entering.

Well, my reason is simple.

We’ve been sleeping on an air mattress since Summer of 2008.

When we moved from Southern Illinois, we left our mattress behind because it didn’t fit in our UHAUL. We had both stayed up the night before moving trying to finish up around the house because once we hit the road, there was no turning back. The mattress should have been one of the first things to be packed. I don’t know what happened, you can’t really expect logic from two sleep deprived parents of a 4 month old.

Once we got settled, we bought an air mattress to sleep on until we could purchase a real mattress. As more and more financial obligations required our attention, purchasing that mattress got put on hold. One air mattress turned into three. Sleeping on an air mattress wasn’t that bad, as long as the bills were paid and Boogie was taken care of.

This isn’t an SOB story. I am not griping because we don’t have real mattress. One day we are going to look back and reminisce. Life is all about making sacrifices. All wishes aren’t granted at once. Good things certainly come to those who wait. We have a warm place to live, foods on the table, and we are all healthy. So what if we are sleeping on an air mattress. There are folks that have to sleep in dirt and on concrete out in extreme weather conditions.

I felt like I’ve told this story one time too many, only because it’s come up somehow. Now that I’ve blogged it, I plan to never mention it again. Ok, maybe I will; when we finally get that mattress and as a reminder to be grateful for the gifts given to us.

Swooned By Google Chrome

I’ve always liked Google Chrome and I would use it occasionally because its performance was substantially faster than Mozilla Firefox. What kept me from using it as a default browser? Its lack of browser extensions. Well, now there are extensions available for Chrome. I was able to find an Chrome extension to replace almost every Firefox extension I had. I love how fast the Google Chrome extensions install. I don’t even have to restart the browser each time I install one.
