Jeff Andrews is an internationally celebrated interior designer, coveted amongst the Hollywood elite. He has worked on interior spaces for the likes of Bruce & Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, and Ryan Seacrest, and is known for his ability to transform clients’ creative vision into a work of art. He has a natural talent for taking bold design concepts and infusing them with warmth & sophistication, setting himself apart from the rest of the design world. The LuxPad talks to Jeff, once described by The Hollywood Reporter as one of the ‘Most Influential Interior Designers in LA’, about his inspirations and why having a signature style isn’t important to him…

What attracted you to the world of design and architecture?

Style, creativity, and design have been a part of my consciousness for as long as I can remember. I have always been focused on the big picture and the creative process behind it.

You use a lot of colour in your designs, would you say that is your signature style? Having a “signature” style is not as important to me as creating spaces that are original and sophisticated, yet highly livable. Colour is the key to creating spaces that are inviting and harmonious; interiors that are beautiful enough to make you want to stay in them, not just look at them. Finding the right balance between comfort and style is a constant challenge and keeps me creatively motivated.

Do you have a favourite (residential) project and why?

My favourite residential project to date is a West Hollywood penthouse I designed for a young bachelor. He gave me the creative freedom to do pretty much whatever I wanted, and the architecture of the space dictated a design that was more contemporary than my usual aesthetic.

The size of the penthouse also provided me with many interesting design challenges; but overcoming the obstacles and really broadening my horizons creatively made it a purely satisfying journey to finally complete. What inspires you today? My clients are my inspiration – their style, colour preferences and lifestyle all determine the direction of a project. Also, sometimes something as simple as a great piece of artwork, photograph, or vintage pottery can serve as my inspiration for whatever project I’m working on at the moment.

What does the word luxury mean to you?

Luxury is a state of mind and can be achieved in many ways. The key is to surround yourself with things that give you pleasure and make you feel pampered in your own home, like high-quality bedding or fabulous wine glasses for your favourite wine. A home should be one’s own private refuge.

Can you recommend a hotel in LA where the interior design really impressed and inspired you?

I’m impressed by the re-design of the Hotel Bel Air. It celebrates modern California living by seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor spaces, and the interiors are comfortable and relaxed, yet chic. The furniture and colour choices reflect the glamour of the 1930’s and 40’s, and complement the hotel’s original Spanish Colonial architecture.

CHRISTENING OF PRINCE GEORGE (A ROYAL AFFAIR)

Prince George has been christened at St James's Palace on Wednesday October 23rd, as the world was given only its second public glimpse of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's young son. (See the lil baby prince pose, with arms wide open on his first family photoshoot - gotta love that)

Outside St James's Palace enthusiastic crowds gathered to see the heir the throne, who was carried by his beaming mother and father on what was clearly a joyful occasion. The three-month-old prince, wearing a long christening robe, joined the handful of relatives attending his baptism, which was described as an 'intimate family affair'.

Only five senior royals, the Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry saw the heir to the throne baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Justin Welby, in the little known Chapel Royal this afternoon. Kate's family - parents Carole and Michael Middleton and siblings Pippa and James - also looked thrilled to be there.

William and Kate chose two hymns, two lessons and two anthems for the service, Kensington Palace revealed. The first lesson, from the Gospel of St Luke, Ch 18, verses 15-17, was read by Miss Middleton, who was Kate's maid of honour at the couple's wedding. The second, from St John's gospel, chapter 15, verses 1-5, was read by Prince Harry. The two hymns at the service were Breathe on Me, Breath of God and Be Thou My Vision.

MY LIFE: NEVER GIVE UP

As a small and new business owner, like myself, sometimes if your business is moving slower than you anticipated, it can be disheartening and very discouraging to say the least, and I must admit I have felt like that many at times lately.

This morning I woke up, and after my morning prayer devotion and quiet time, I said to myself, I don't care if I fall a thousand times, I will continuously get up, brush myself and try again until, I succeed and testify to someone else someday. On this Day I have made my promise to God never to feel discouraged again, because he gave me this business idea and he will see it through. Soronko will win by his Grace.!!

If you are a small business owner like myself and have had this similar feeling in your freshman year, as you try to get your business off the ground, please dont feel discouraged, and don't look at who is doing what around you, concentrate and focus on your own and God will do the rest. Don't be afraid to fail sometimes. It is okay - you will be fine. Just choose to remain optimistic at all times and speak positive onto your business.

Assistant Owner and Creative Director.
Must be a student or new graduate in one of the top designs schools in Metro Atlanta (SCAD, AIA, Gwinnett College etc)
Must have Good organisation and communications skills.
12 Hours per week commitment working from your own home, and meet once a week for 4hrs for a one on one update/brainstorming of ideas.
Must have Textile Design and Graphic Design experience/background
Must be highly proficient with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Marketing, Research & PR skills will be a plus.

Hello Ladies & Gents, my sincere apologies for my long silence in over a month. I have been very busy working my usual 9-5, whilst prepping for my fall collection (2013).

Below is a sneak peek of what is to come for my fall (autumn) 2013 collection. This time I will be adding Tabletop Items such as Napkins, Place-mats etc, as well as a few other Accessories (surprise :) ).

These are Soronko Autumn (Fall) 2013 Textile Collection

(all in production now for Tabletop napkins, placemats etc)

I had to post photo of Mykonos Blue separately since it did not make the group pix above.

Do you see what I see? :) - As you will see from my collection above, all the chosen colours for Soronko's Fall collection mirrors that of the Pantone Fall 2013 colours. Customers will have options of the textile designs not just in these colours but in different colours as well eg simple black & white. If you look carefully at the Soronko Image (above) and check out the last design (last on your right) - this comes in a honey gold colour which is not part of 2013 pantone colour release, however I decided to just add it because i felt that colour will be very appropriate to include in a Fall Collection - it will look beautiful for a napkin or placemat.

All the textiles come in "Cotton/Linen" however I am still sourcing to get 100% heavy linen weight into my collection. I will post all the colour options in the shop area on my website when all is complete. Right now we are working on production and photoshoot and I anticipate everything to be complete by next month. I have a few surprises too :)

THE PRINCE/KING HAS ARRIVED, YES, IT IS A BOY

I am so happy today, The Future King has been Born (3rd in line to the throne) today June 22 2013. Congratulations to Prince William & Kate. All Hail the King!!!!!. Yes, William & Kate welcomed their bouncy baby boy weighing 8 lb 6 oz, today. This is great news although i lost on a bet, I was very sure it will be a girl - i guess I just wish it was so she can be named Diana, but nonetheless I am very very happy for them having a boy.

Cant wait to go home to London next week to see my family and to enjoy these new festivities.

I am soooooooo happy. So excited. Now I am betting on the name to be "Arthur" or "George" :) . I know the prince will have at least 3-4 names as it has traditionally been, and I am just wishing there is the name "George" and/or "Arthur" in there somewhere. - It will take anywhere from a week to a month for the name to be made public (Prince Charles' took a month), so we wait patiently.

ARTS & CULTURE: PAUL SIKA - "NO ORDINARY PHOTOGRAPHER"

As an African I love Africa, I love our arts, our customs & culture, our rich history, our creativity and our use vibrant colours for textiles etc. However I noticed, we have many great talents back home (most entirely self taught artist), the majority have not had the the medium to showcase their creative arts or publicize their work globally as much as they want. I have decided at least twice a month, to showcase a creative African talent on my blog.

Today I start by featuring a renowned photographer called Paul Sika. Paul is one of the few lucky ones, whose work has cross over and now quite known in Europe & America. Paul's work has been praised by Forbes, The New York Times, and Arise Magazine among others.
.
Paul Sika is an Ivorian self taught photographer (and as CNN described him he is "No Ordinary Photographer"). Paul applies his complex understanding of computer science to create mesmerizing photographs which are influenced by cinema and one-frame filmmaking. Paul Sika’s photographs depict African scenes with vivid, eye-catching visuals. The oversaturated, vibrant colors in his work are the result of extensive post production, using Photoshop. To create his images, Paul Sika builds a cast to portray the scenes he has scripted and the post-production transforms the captured photographs to the vibrant photographs we see.

Sika is at home working in the digital medium having studied software engineering at university, and his dynamic style has won him work on advertising campaigns for Ivorian fashion labels.

His work is also gaining recognition overseas, having been exhibited in New York and featured on U.S.-rapper Kanye West's blog. But Sika is keen not to limit himself to just one medium. Describing himself as a "creative entrepreneur," he has just published a book of images and text called "At the Heart of Me," and is looking for partners to help him branch out into fashion, perfume, and online computer games. But for now it's his photographs that are grabbing people's attention.

FOOD & WINE: THAI COCONUT SOUP

One of the things i always look forward to when visiting Thai Restaurant with my friends is their infamous Thai Coconut Soup. I just love it so much. I have tried making it at home on numerous occasions and although mine does not taste as good as theirs, it was good nonetheless. I think it is a healthy appetizer. Here is the recipe, give it a try and let me know what you think;
.INGREDIENTS:

1 can (14 oz.) coconut milk 1 can (14 oz.)
reduced-sodium chicken broth 6 quarter-size slices fresh ginger
1 stalk fresh lemongrass, cut in 1-in. pieces
1 pound boned, skinned chicken breast or thighs, cut into 1-in. chunks
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice 1 tablespoon Thai or Vietnamese fish sauce (nuoc mam or nam pla)
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon Thai chili paste
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
1/4 cup fresh cilantro

PREPARATION:
.

In a medium saucepan, combine coconut milk, broth, ginger, and lemongrass and bring to boil over high heat.
Add chicken, mushrooms, lime juice, fish sauce, sugar, and chili paste.
Reduce heat and simmer until chicken is firm and opaque, 5 to 10 minutes.
Discard lemongrass. Garnish servings with basil and cilantro.

Ngorongoro Lodge is located in Tanzania. Tanzania is in East Africa. FOOD & RECIPES: TIS THE SEASON FOR BARBECUES

As the spring ends and summer begins, tis the season for barbecues. Here are a few great recipes (for both vegans and non vegans).

When it comes to barbecues i always feel that great sauces make the barbecue. Anyone can grill chicken,meats or fish, but it is the sauce that makes it a great barbecue. Below is a sauce recipe i found.
.

MEMPHIS STYLE BARBECUE SAUCE

INGREDIENTS

2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup chopped onion 2 cloves garlic, smashed
3 cups ketchup 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/4 cup steak sauce
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
3 tablespoons molasses 3 tablespoons yellow mustard
1/2 teaspoon ground celery seed Kosher salt 1 to 2 teaspoons liquid smoke

DIRECTIONS:

Heat the vegetable oil in a medium pot over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until the onion is golden, 6 to 7 minutes.
Stir in the ketchup, 1 cup water, the vinegar, brown sugar, steak sauce, Worcestershire sauce, molasses, mustard, celery seed and 1 teaspoon salt.
Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium low and simmer until the onion is tender, about 15 minutes.
Stir in the liquid smoke.
Strain the sauce, pressing on the solids to extract any liquid.

I always feel vegans are always left out at barbecues and there are not enough variety of food for them to enjoy, so i found the following simple recipes for all vegetarians. This recipe originates from the Middle East.

VEGETARIAN WRAP

.
• 3 ounces of Seitan (bite size pieces) - (gluten wheat you will find this mostly in your wholefood stores. )
• Whole Wheat Tortilla or Pita Bread
• Tomatoes-diced
• Onions-diced
• Lettuce-shredded
• 1 tbsp. of Freshly minced Garlic (optional)
• 1 tsp. of Cumin
• 1 tsp. of Paprika
• 1 tbsp. of Fresh minced Herbs (optional)
• Black Pepper freshly ground to taste
• Salt to taste
• ¼ cup of Plain Yogurt (optional)
• Hot Pepper Sauce (optional)
• 1 tbsp. of Canola Oil
.
DIRECTIONS:

In a cast iron pan add and heat oil.
Add in seitan and heat over a medium heat.
Put in cumin along with paprika, salt plus pepper.
Stir all the things occasionally till the seitan is cooked well and through.
Now arrange your sandwich.
Put seitan inside your pita bread along with lettuce, diced onions and tomato.
If you desire, you can make a sauce by means of yogurt and herbs.
Also you can mix yogurt and garlic or use hot sauce to make one.

VEGGIE BURGER
.

1 cup dry TVP (textured vegetable protein)
3/4 cup hot water
1 cup grated zucchini (from about 1 medium zucchini)
1 teaspoon kosher salt
4 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup minced yellow onion (from about 1/2 medium onion)
1 medium garlic clove, minced 3/4 cup grated carrot (from about 1 carrot)
1/3 cup peeled, shredded red beet (from about 1/2 large beet)
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons sunflower seeds 2 teaspoons tomato paste
2 teaspoons ground mustard
1 1/2 cups cooked short-grain brown rice (about 3/4 cup dry)
2/3 cup cooked brown lentils (about 1/4 cup dry)
2 tablespoons minced Italian parsley leaves
1 tablespoon dried thyme
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 large egg
1 large egg white
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 7 whole-wheat buns or kaiser rolls, for serving

DIRECTIONS:

In a medium bowl, combine the TVP and water. Stir and set aside until ready to use.
Toss the zucchini with 1/2 teaspoon of the salt and place in a colander or strainer set over a bowl to drain, at least 10 minutes.
Squeeze the zucchini to release any excess water, then set aside, discarding the liquid.
Heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil in a small frying pan over medium heat. When it shimmers, add the onion and garlic and cook until the vegetables are soft and translucent, about 5 to 6 minutes.
In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of the soaked TVP mixture, the zucchini, carrot, beet, 1/4 cup of the sunflower seeds, the tomato paste, ground mustard, 3/4 cup of the brown rice, 1/4 cup of the lentils, the parsley, thyme, and 1/2 cup of the panko.
Add the sautéed onion and garlic and mix well; set aside.
Heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil in the same frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the mushrooms and cook, stirring occasionally, until tender and nicely browned, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
Transfer the mushrooms to the bowl of a food processor; add the egg, egg white, tamari, pepper, and remaining salt, TVP, sunflower seeds, brown rice, lentils, and panko.
Process until the mixture is well combined and uniform, about 30 to 45 seconds. (The mixture will not be smooth.)
Add the puréed mushroom mixture to the reserved TVP mixture and combine well (using your hands works best).
Form into 7 patties (about 3/4 cup each) and place on a baking sheet.
Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large nonstick frying pan over medium-high heat.
Add 3 patties to the pan and brown on one side, about 6 to 7 minutes; flip and continue cooking until the burgers are crispy and heated through, about 5 to 6 minutes more. Repeat with the remaining patties and serve on whole-wheat buns or kaiser rolls with your favorite toppings

A Tennessee couple wanted a mountain retreat residence away from their Nashville, and turned to Paul Bertelli of Bozeman-based JLF & Associates. Paul's approach was using antique reclaimed materials in a restrained, contemporary way—dovetailed neatly with their vision for the house.

The interior designing of the home was done by Manhattan-based interior designer Markham Roberts, who had worked with them previously on the couples residence in Southampton, New York. “My goal in Montana was to add softness and texture without competing with the incredible architecture,” saids Mark.

A smaller lamp looks best when placed on a small accent or side table. A slender candlestick lamp is appropriate for a side table that is slim and delicate in style. The lamp's base also should be sized for smaller side tables; if the base is too wide, it could be knocked off of the table easily. If a side table is placed next to a chair, the height if the lamp should be considered.
