We are up to part 4 of our GOD’S BIG PICTURE series. It’s on THE PARTIAL KINGDOM. Basically we’ll be seeing the partial fulfilment of the promises God made to Abraham in and through the nation of Israel. Check out this video and these notes to help you prepare.

This week we will see a PARTIAL fulfilment of the promises made to Abraham…

DAY 2
Read Exodus 19:1-13 [again]
How are Israel to respond to God?
What must they do? Is it possible?
How can God’s promises be completely fulfilled?

Thank God that through Jesus he has completely rescued us and made us His People (Titus 1:13-14).

Read 2 Samuel 7:1-17
What has God already done for David?
What does God promises will happen in the future?
How do these promises relate to those made to Abe [Gen 12:1-3]?
What does God promise regarding the coming king?

DAY 4
How does Jesus fulfil the promises made in yesterday’s passage?

John 2:18-22
Acts 2:24-36
Romans 1:1-4

DAY 5
As we look over the huge chunk of the Bible Genesis 12 – 2 Chronicles, we see that the promises of God are partially fulfilled.
Read 2 Corinthians 1:18-22
What do we learn about the way God fulfils his promises completely?

How ought you respond to God for what he’s done in Jesus?

Pray about it.

SUMMARY.
God’s promises to Abraham are partially fulfilled in Israel’s history. Through the exodus from Egypt, God makes Abraham’s descendants his very own people. At Mount Sinai he gives them his law so that they might live under his rule and enjoy his blessing, as Adam and Eve had done before they sinned. The blessing is marked chiefly by God’s presence with his people in the tabernacle. Under Joshua they enter the land and, by the time of Kings David and Solomon, they enjoy peace and prosperity there. That was the high point of the history of Israel. They were God’s people in God’s place, the land of Canaan, under God’s rule and therefore enjoying his blessing. But the promises made to Abraham had still not been completely fulfilled. The problem was sin, the continual disobedience of the people of Israel. That was soon to lead to the dismantling of the partial kingdom as Israel fell apart.

WEEKLY INTRO
In week 1 we saw the Pattern of the Kingdom. Last week we saw the Perished Kingdom. This week is a major turning point in the Bible that sets us up for everything that is to come. In the Perished Kingdom, we saw that creation was cursed because of humans disobeying their creator. This week we will see what God promises that He will do to reverse the curse. The promises made to Abraham in Genesis 12 will ultimately be fulfilled in Jesus!

Day 1
READ Ephesians 1:1-10
What do we learn about how far God’s plans stretch?
Thank God that before sin even came into the world he had planned how he would rescue us in Jesus.

Day 2
Last week we left off with a gloomy situation. Genesis 3-11 has much to say about the spread of sin and its consequences [including death].
In the following verses from Genesis 3-11 how is God’s grace shown?
Gen 3:15

Gen 5:24
Gen 6:18

Day 3
Just after the judgment at the Tower of Babel… he makes some huge promises!
READ Genesis 12:1-10
What promises does he make to Abraham?
Thank God that he keeps every promise he makes.

READ Genesis 17:1-8
God confirms his promises by repeating them here. List them under the headings.
People
Land
Blessing

Day 5
How do the promises made to Abraham relate to us as Christians?
Read Galatians 3:6-9

SUMMARY.
God calls Abram and makes some unconditional promises to him: through his descendants he will re-establish his kingdom. They will be God’s people, living in God’s place [the land] under God’s rule and enjoying his blessing, and through them all peoples on earth will be blessed. That promise is the gospel. It is partially fulfilled in the history of Israel, but is only finally fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

Spend time reflecting over this weeks Bible passages and your notes and pray about the things you have learned.

I would love to invite you to come to my place (at the back of the church car park) for morning tea or supper on Sunday 6 May. Come along after our 10:30am congregation (approx. 12-12:30pm) or come along after our 6:00pm congregation (approx. 7:30-8pm). This will be a great chance to let you know about the year, get to know each other, ask questions, pray and share some good food. If you don’t normally come to church, you are more than welcome to just attend the morning tea/supper.

The series is GOD’S BIG PICTURE. We are tracing the storyline of the Bible and checking out what God’s Kingdom is at different points throughout. God’s Kingdom is: God’s People; in God’s Place; under God’s Rule + Blessing.

HERE IS THE SUMMARY OF LAST WEEK: The PATTERN of the Kingdom.
In the Garden of Eden we see the world as God designed it to be. God’s people, Adam and Eve, live in God’s place, the garden, under his rule as they submit to his word. And to be under God’s rule in the Bible is always to enjoy his blessing; it is the best way to live. God’s original creation shows us a model of his kingdom as it was meant to be.

Spend time reflecting on this week. Thank God for Jesus and that in him we can be forgiven and reconciled both to God and each other [Eph 2].

SUMMARY
Adam & Eve try to run life their own way without God. They are no longer God’s people because as they turn away from Him, He turns away from them. They are banished from God’s place, the garden. And they are no longer under God’s rule so they don’t enjoy his blessing. Instead they face God’s curse and judgment. BUT God, in his great love, is determined to restore his kingdom…

Soulies Youth Community had a killer time at KYCK this past weekend! We camped onsite, it didn’t rain! Andy, Nat, Bel, Michelle + Nick from St Faith’s Night Church served us by cooking up some sweeeeet food. St Paul’s Castle Hill band CITY SURRENDER were tight, energetic and encouraging as they lead 2200+ young punks in song. Finally, Malcolm Gill and Sam Chan gave, in my opinion, the best series of talks I’ve heard at KYCK. Solid, intertwined, bold, biblical and engaging.

WHAT TO PACK ETC
Go check out our KYCK12 REGO PAGE for all the details. In particular, remember to bring a sleeping mat and warm clothes. You don’t need to bring a mess bag, we’ll supply plates and cups etc.

BRING SOME EXTRA MONEY
>> $5 for Saturday night dinner. This was on the rego form, it’s a BBQ run by KYCK to raise money for Scripture teaching in NSW.
>> $10 (or more) if you’d like to give to Thirteen Three, Anglicare or Compassion. All 3 are great organisations. This is optional. Feel free to ask your parents for some money to give away, but even better would be to take money from your own savings and be generous. This is optional, but if you give, know that God loves a cheerful giver.
>> $35 if you want a sweeeet KYCK hoodie. Money raised from the hoodies helps to subsidise those traveling long distances to get to KYCK.
>> Any other cash to buy quality Christian books/music/resources from the book shop.

TENTS
We’re sleeping in them. Yeeeewww! We’ve managed to get 7 massive 12 person tents. Here’s the breakdown:

Year 7 boys – massive tent

Year 10 boys – Suz’s 10 person tent
Year 11 & 12 boys – massive tent

Year 7 & 8 girls – massive tent

We’ve got an advance team heading down a little earlier to get a start on tent construction.

TRANSPORT
We are meeting at 2pm this Friday at THE VENUE. All year 7-10s will be on the bus. Year 11s and 12s will be traveling with leaders in cars. IF YOU ARE IN YEAR 11 + 12, PLEASE CONFIRM BY EMAIL THAT YOUR PARENTS KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE TRAVELING UP AND BACK BY CAR. INFO@SOULIES.NET

WEATHER
Here’s a pic of the forecast:

This is a pretty good forecast. It may rain a little, but it will only be 1-10mms. On the Northern Beaches we’ve had about 100mm in the last 24 hours. So any showers will hopefully only be light. 11 degrees over night is fairly mild (I slept in 3 degrees last week while camping in Wagga Wagga!!). But nonetheless, prepare for cold and wet weather when you pack.

PREPARE
I’ve heard great things from the talks from week 1 of KYCK this year. To help you get ready, make sure you have a read of the Bible passages. Here they are. KYCK promises to be a great time as we dig into God’s word getting to know Jesus better, hang out with other SOULIES and gather with 2400 others!! Don’t forget to pray!

SUNDAY PICK UP
The bus and cars will be arriving back at THE VENUE by 4pm on Sunday afternoon.
