Matt Corby

From a young age Matt Corby knew that music was his calling, and he’s finally sharing himself with the world. At the age of 16 he made it to the finals of Australian Idol (2007), only to shy away from the world of publicity and focus on his craft.

Long gone is the young boy who captured the hearts of screaming fan girls on National Television. Following this reinvention, he came out with his debut EP ‘Song For’ in 2009. Since then he has produced a continuous stream of music through indie record label Communion (owned by Mumford and Sons).

When you listen to Matt you hear hints of a modern Jeff Buckley in the music. Buckley is indeed one of his idols along with Nick Drake and although you hear the influence, the sound remains very unique. Chilling and haunting at times, Matt’s music possesses one thing that is becoming increasingly uncommon – an ability to stay true to his sensibilities as an artist. When you lay back to relax and put on some music, this is the kind of stuff you want to hear coming out of the stereo.

Matt Corby doesn’t go out of his way to be in the limelight, running a series of Secret Garden Shows: concerts staged in the backyards of fans around Australia. However as an artist he’s yet to be recognised as one of the most talented young songwriters. He’s currently released four EPs and a few singles on the side. More recently his single Brother hit high rotation on the Triple J in November for the first time. There’s clearly a lot of passion and integrity behind his music and he has a beautiful sound. Well worth spreading it around those who have full hearing.
