	This episode will show how to put a dynamic web server on your system with Xampp in just a few clicks or how to put it on a usb drive and take it with you. YouGrabber will be the little extra.

I. System Tools : Xampp
Many people know from their own experience that it's not easy to install an Apache web server and it gets harder if you want to add MySQL, PHP and Perl.

XAMPP is an easy to install Apache distribution containing MySQL, PHP and Perl. XAMPP is really very easy to install and to use - just download, extract and start.
		xampp

II. The little extra : YouGrabber
YouGrabber is a lightweight, multi-threaded (NPTL based) command line YouTube.com video downloader with proxy (HTTP, SOCKS 4 and 5) support, made from scratch in ANSI C using the libcURL API.
Although only tested on GNU/Linux, it should compile/run on other POSIX platforms.

<itunes:summary>This episode will demonstrate great desktop functionality with Fluxbox, Urban Terror will be the best way to blow of steam and Exif will be the little command line extra.

I. System Tools : FluxBox
Fluxbox © is yet another windowmanager for X.
It's based on the Blackbox 0.61.1 code. Fluxbox looks like blackbox and handles styles, colors, window placement and similar thing exactly like blackbox (100% theme/style compability).

So what's the difference between fluxbox and blackbox then?
The answer is: LOTS!

pcfluxboxos

II. Games : Urban Terror
Urban Terror could best be described as a Hollywood tactical shooter; it is realism based to a certain extent (environments/weapons/player models), but also goes by the motto "fun over realism" (fast gameplay and lots of action). This combination of reality and action results in a very unique, enjoyable and addictive game.

<itunes:summary>This episode will show the simplicity, power and expandability of a great webmail application named Squirrelmail, check you hard drive with badblocks, the little extra that will help you evaluate the damage on your existing harddrive.

I. Web applications : Squirrelmail
SquirrelMail is a standards-based webmail package written in PHP. It includes built-in pure PHP support for the IMAP and SMTP protocols, and all pages render in pure HTML 4.0 (with no JavaScript required) for maximum compatibility across browsers. It has very few requirements and is very easy to configure and install. SquirrelMail has all the functionality you would want from an email client, including strong MIME support, address books, and folder manipulation.

II. The little extra : badblocks
badblocks is used to search for bad blocks on a device (usually a disk partition). device is the spe‐cial file corresponding to the device (e.g /dev/hdc1). last-block is the last block to be checked; if it is not specified, the last block on the device is used as a default. start-block is an optional parameter specifying the starting block number for the test, which allows the testing to start in the middle of the disk. If it is not specified the first block on the disk is used as a default.

<itunes:summary>This episode will demonstrate how to remote desktop your way into a simple or complex, existing X11 session with x11vnc, take a look at the excellent XML Copy Editor and show you widget-o-rama with SuperKaramba

I. System Tools : x11vnc
11vnc allows one to view remotely and interact with real X displays (i.e. a display corresponding to a physical monitor, keyboard, and mouse) with any VNC viewer. In this way it plays the role for Unix/X11 that WinVNC plays for Windows.

It has built-in SSL encryption and authentication, UNIX account and password support, server-side scaling, single port HTTPS and VNC, mDNS service advertising, and TightVNC and UltraVNC file-transfer. It has also been extended to work with non-X devices: webcams and TV tuner capture devices, embedded Linux systems such as Qtopia Core, and natively on Mac OS X Aqua/Quartz.

use it encrypted :
% ssh -L 5900:localhost:5900 (yourserverip) ’x11vnc -localhost -display :0’
		x11vnc

II. System Tools : XML Copy Editor
XML Copy Editor is a fast, free, validating XML editor. Features :

* DTD/XML Schema/RELAX NG validation
* XSLT
* XPath
* Pretty-printing
* Syntax highlighting
* Folding
* Tag completion
* Tag locking
* Tag-free editing
* Spelling and style check
* Built-in support for XHTML, XSL, DocBook and TEI
* Lossless import and export of Microsoft Word documents (Windows only)

I. Games : Stepmania
StepMania is a free dance and rhythm game featuring 3D graphics, dance pad support, and a step editor.

Nearly all music games are based on the principle of notes floating up or down the screen; as the notes reach targets, the player presses a button corresponding to the target and is judged based on his timing - each note is then graded on the level of accuracy achieved, with the highest levels adding to a combo count that continues as long as successive note grades are at or above the combo level. A life bar measures whether or not your performance is sufficent to pass the song and continue play. At the end of the song, you recieve a score and overall grade.

III. The little extra : Bashpodder

BashPodder Was written and is maintained here by me (Linc) with the generous code contributions and great ideas of many of its users, some of whom have contributed modified scripts of their own. BashPodder is currently licensed under the GPL. BashPodder was written to be small and fast, and most importantly, to conform to the KISS rule (Keep It Simple Stupid). That way, anyone can add to and detract from the script to suit their own needs (and they are welcome to do so). BashPodder is listed in many places as a "Linux" podcatching client, and in fact, that is what I wrote it for initially, however, it should be noted that I have dozens of emails telling me how well it works on everything else, including but not limited to MaxOSX, Solaris, AIX, Net Open and FreeBSD, even windows and many other OS's I have forgotten I am sure.

<itunes:summary>In this episode we will go White Hat on webservers and discover their weaknesses with Nikto. CDex will be our multimedia feature, look no further for your ripping software, it's here.

I. System Tools : Nikto
Nikto is an Open Source (GPL) web server scanner which performs comprehensive tests against web servers for multiple items, including over 3300 potentially dangerous files/CGIs, versions on over 625 servers, and version specific problems on over 230 servers. Scan items and plugins are frequently updated and can be automatically updated (if desired).

Nikto is not designed as an overly stealthy tool. It will test a web server in the shortest timespan possible, and it's fairly obvious in log files. However, there is support for LibWhisker's anti-IDS methods in case you want to give it a try (or test your IDS system).

II. Multimedia Software : CDex
W CDex can CD/Ripper music encoder. CDex can extract the data directly (digital) from an Audio CD, which is generally called a CD Ripper or a CDDA utility. The resulting audio file can be a plain WAV file (useful for making compilation audio CDs) or the ripped audio data can be compressed using an audio encoder. Many encoders are supported, to name a few:

Lame MP3 encoder
Internal MP2 encoder
APE lossles audio format
Ogg Vorbis encoder
The Windows MP3 encoder (Fraunhofer MP3 encoder)
NTT VQF encoder
FAAC encoder
Windows WMA8 encoder

In addition, WAV files on the hard drive can be converted to a Compressed Audio File (and visa versa). CDex also supports many audio file tag formats like the ID3V1 and ID3V2 tags, which can be automatically inserted as part of the ripping process.

I. System Tools : Synergy
Synergy lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware. It's intended for users with multiple computers on their desk since each system uses its own monitor(s).

Redirecting the mouse and keyboard is as simple as moving the mouse off the edge of your screen. Synergy also merges the clipboards of all the systems into one, allowing cut-and-paste between systems. Furthermore, it synchronizes screen savers so they all start and stop together and, if screen locking is enabled, only one screen requires a password to unlock them all. <itunes:summary>This episode will show you the magic of MythTV and will hopefully spark your curiosity about this beautiful PVR project. Make your own TV recorder !

I. multimedia software : MythTV
MythTV is a homebrew PVR project that I've been working on in my spare time. It's been under heavy development for almost four years, and is now quite useable and featureful.

from the developer : "I got tired of the rather low quality cable box that ATandT Broadband provides with their digital cable service. It's slow to change channels, ridden with ads, and the program guide is a joke. So, I figured it'd be fun to try and build a replacement. Yes, I could have just bought a TiVo, but I wanted to have more than just a PVR -- I want a webbrowser built in, a mail client, maybe some games. Basically, I want the mythical convergence box that's been talked about for a few years now."

<itunes:summary>This episode will cover every block of your hard drive with ddrescue, give you a window into the free and online chess community with Eboard and warp you back to the good old days of Battlechess with Brutal Chess
I. system tools : Ddrescue
GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue data in case of read errors.
Ddrescue does not truncate the output file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file, it tries to fill in the gaps.
The basic operation of ddrescue is fully automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program, read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc.
If you use the logfile feature of ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume it later at the same point.

II. games : eboard
eboard is a chess interface for Unix-like systems (GNU/Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, etc.) based on the GTK+ GUI toolkit. It provides a chess board interface to ICS (Internet Chess Servers) like FICS and to chess engines like GNU Chess, Sjeng and Crafty.
eboard is under development, and its primary purpose is serving as interface to FICS.
eboard is Free Software, distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

III. the little extra : Brutal Chess
The newest release of Brutal Chess is now available for public download just in time for Christmas (direct download link). For now there is only a Windows installer and source tarball available. In the future we should have a Mac package and one’s for other Linux distros.
Next up is networking support for Internet chess servers and third party chess engines. As always, bug reports submitted to the Sourceforge tracker are always appreciated. When submitting them please include operating system, gfx card and drivers, and any other applicable information.

<itunes:summary>This episode will be very secure, so secure I can perfectly deny that it has ever been produced. Embrace Truecrypt ! Windows and Linux software for securing your data. Open Source of course.
I. system tools : Truecrypt
Free open-source disk encryption software for Windows XP/2000/2003 and Linux
Main Features:
Creates a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mounts it as a real disk.
Encrypts an entire hard disk partition or a storage device such as USB flash drive.
Encryption is automatic, real-time (on-the-fly) and transparent.
Provides two levels of plausible deniability, in case an adversary forces you to reveal the password:
1) Hidden volume (steganography – more information may be found here).
2) No TrueCrypt volume can be identified (volumes cannot be distinguished from random data).
Encryption algorithms: AES-256, Blowfish (448-bit key), CAST5, Serpent, Triple DES, and Twofish.
Mode of operation: LRW (CBC supported as legacy).
Conceived in 2003.

<itunes:summary>This episode we will take Dia for a test drive and discover the ease of use of quick and clear diagram building. We will also hit Gnu characters and shoot Snort pigs in Wormux. All GNU GPL software, for Unix, Linux, BSD, OSX and Microsoft Windows.
I. graphical tools : Dia
Dia is a gtk+ based diagram creation program released under the GPL license.
Dia is inspired by the commercial Windows program 'Visio', though more geared towards informal diagrams for casual use. It can be used to draw many different kinds of diagrams. It currently has special objects to help draw entity relationship diagrams, UML diagrams, flowcharts, network diagrams, and many other diagrams. It is also possible to add support for new shapes by writing simple XML files, using a subset of SVG to draw the shape.
It can load and save diagrams to a custom XML format (gzipped by default, to save space), can export diagrams to a number of formats, including EPS, SVG, XFIG, WMF and PNG, and can print diagrams (including ones that span multiple pages).

II. the little extra : Wormux
Have the mascots of your favorite free softwares battle in the Wormux arena. Using dynamite, grenades, baseball bat and others bazookas,... exterminate your opponent in a 2D toon style scenery and a funny environment.
Each player (2 minimum, on the same PC) controls the team of his choice (penguin, gnu, firefox, wilber,...) and must destroy his adversary using more or less casual weapons.
