There's no way to tell for sure, but these photos which made their way into our hands certainly do a convincing job of making us think that's very much the case. Apparently the phone was found on the floor of a San Jose bar inside of an iPhone 3G case. Right now we don't have a ton of info on the device in question, but we can tell you that it apparently has a front facing camera (!), 80GB of storage (weird, right?), and isn't booting at this point (though it was previously, and running an OS that was decidedly new). It's not clear if this is definitely a production model, or just a prototype that found its way into the world, but it's certainly a compelling design, no matter how you look at it.

There may be a chance to get some more face-time with the handset, but we wanted to get these photos to you guys ASAP. Stay tuned, we're working on more details as we type -- for now, enjoy the gallery below!

Update: As a number of observant commenters and tipsters pointed out, this looks almost exactly like a Twitpic posted by TUDream on February 20th, which we're throwing after the break if for whatever reason the source link goes down. It's low-res, shows an indiscriminate bit of the inside, and some mysterious button / possible SIM slot in the middle of the other side. The mic holes on this pic seems to be larger, too.

X170 Action Camera Is Ready For Any Adventure

If a rugged cam is only as good as the places you can mount it, then the X170 Action Camera, which can be strapped to heads, latched to handlebars, and velcroed just about anywhere else, must be pretty damn good.

The X170 from Drift Innovation shoots 720 x 480 video and 5MP photos on a 170° wide angle lens that itself can be rotated 300º. It has a wrist-worn remote control that works to a distance of 5 meters, and a small color LCD screen for checking your shot. It supports SD cards and runs on AA batteries so you can swap when you're in the field.

But most importantly, it only weighs 128 grams and comes with a goggle mount, a handlebar grip, a helmet grip, a head strap, a universal clip, and industrial strength velcro. If you're just a skiier, fine, go for the a gogglecam. But for the diverse adventurer, the X170 is a camera with a lot of flexibility.

It costs $200, and you can consult the Drift Innovation's website to find a dealer near you. In fact, it might be worth it alone just to see what this "industrial strength velcro" is all about.

Most anticipated games, ON SALE, best buy!!

Steps:
Click on Preformance and Maintenance.
Click on System.
Then click on the Advanced tab
But there will always be a niche of brands that offer quality, and albeit are priced more. Cowon has carved out this reputation for themselves, they have some really god players. Today we have the V5 HD by Cowon, so let’s see if it can hold the flag up waving high.

DESIGN:

Available in the box are a pair of earphones, a small CD, manual, warranty card, adapter and USB cable, which has a proprietary connector on one end. This irritates me for the obvious reasons: what if the cable gets lost? The connector actually doubles up as the HDMI and also the SPDIF out, the cables of which were not included in our package. The unit itself is slightly heavy, not too conducive to carry straight in the pocket, plus the screen is not protected. But the complaints end there in the design section, as the flat rectangular form factor is seamless, and very clean looking.

The screen is a large 4.8 inch, digital TFT LCD touch screen. 800 x 400 is the resolution, while brightness is 400cd/㎡. The left side has the USB port for PC connectivity hidden behind a panel, along with a slot for SD card. The other side has 3.5mm earphone socket and the adapter socket.

Back to the touch screen. The main USP is that the resolution of video that can be viewed is 720p, which comes under the realm of HD video. It has album art visualizations, EQ section and also has an image viewer (JPG, GIF, PNG, TIF, BMP, RAW) and other stuff like a calculator and a .TXT file reader for eBooks in that format. The text size can be adjusted in size and color as well. The player charges via the adapter, and takes about 3 hours to be fully charged. Last but not least, there is a voice recorder option. Now what it doesn’t have: No Wi-Fi, no Bluetooth, thus many apps included in it will be pointless.

SPECIFICATIONS:
Video Resolution 800 x 400, Max res: 1280x720
OS Windows CE 6.0
Max Output 16 Ohm earphones : 30mW + 30mW
File formats (video) AVI, WMV, ASF, MP4, MATROSKA(MKV), OGM, MPG/MPEG, DAT,
(audio) MP3/2/1, WMA, ASF, AC3, FLAC, OGG, M4A, MATROSKA (MKA), TTA, APE,
MPC, WV, WAV
Codecs H.264 (MPEG4-AVC) MPEG 1, MPEG 2, VC-1, WMV 9, AC3, WMA
Size 128 x 22 x 15.7 (w x h x d)
Weight 197 g

CONCLUSION:

At a cost of Rs.16500, this becomes quite pricey, and the only real thing it has going for it is the core video and audio performance. The apps and browser can be substituted in something like an iPod Touch, that is cheaper too. The HD video out capability is a great feature, but the HDMI cable is not included, so again, that’s not cool. The OS is not flawless. This gets some credit for design and good video playback, but value for money is off by a few thousand bucks.

Watch Out for Trojans Circulating in PDFs

Websense Security Labs has received several reports of a Zbot trojan campaign spreading via email that connects your PC to a malicious remote server in China. They have seen over 2,200 messages so far.

Zbot (also known as Zeus) is an information stealing trojan (infostealer) collecting confidential data from each infected computer. The main vector for spreading Zbot is a spam campaign where recipients are tricked into opening infected attachments on their computer.

This new variant uses a malicious PDF file which contains the threat as an embedded file. When recipients open the PDF, it asks to save a PDF file called Royal_Mail_Delivery_Notice.pdf. The user assumes that the file is just a PDF, and therefore safe to store on the local computer. The file, however, is really a Windows executable. The malicious PDF launches the dropped file, taking control of the computer. At the time of writing, this file has a 20 perecnt anti-virus detection rate (SHA1 : f1ff07104b7c6a08e06bededd57789e776098b1f).

Location of the Zbot:

The Zbot trojan creates a subdirectory under %SYSTEM32% with the name "lowsec" and drops the "local.ds" and "user.ds" files. The "local.ds" and "user.ds" are configuration files
for the threat. It also drops an executable "sdra64.exe" and modifies the registry entry "%SOFTWARE%\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Userinit" to launch itself during system startup. When it runs, it injects malicious code into the Winlogon.exe instance in memory. This Zbot variant connects to malicious remote sever in China using an IP address of 59.44.[removed].[removed]:6010.
This is yet another hacking attempt pointing to China, which is kinda alarming and makes one wonder if China is quietly planning to go big on this. Make sure you've updated your anti-virus suites with latest definitions in order to keep your PC from malicious data. Also, avoid downloading any PDF from unknown senders.

The Dogs of War: Apple vs. Google vs. Microsoft

It's hard to grasp the breathtaking scale of the epic war between Microsoft, Google and Apple. Billions upon billions of dollars. Entire industries at stake. This is the board. These are the pieces.

If you think about it, what's shocking isn't the size of Microsoft or Apple, companies that are decades old, established titans of industry (even if they have stumbled in the past)—it's Google. In just over 10 years, Google's become arguably the most important company on the web, spreading to anything the internet touches with astonishing speed, almost like a virus: From the web and search to books, video, mobile phones, operating systems, and soon, your TV. Friends have become enemies, enemies more paranoid. And you know, it's only a matter of time before Google's remaining gaps on this map are filled out. (BTW, you can click on the picture to make it bigger.)

Back in the 1990s, "hegemony" was another way to spell "Microsoft." It was Microsoft that looked to invade everything. It was Microsoft in the Department of Justice's sights for antitrust issues. Anywhere there was computing, there was Microsoft. But today, it's Apple that conquered music. Apple that revolutionized mobile phones. Apple that might make tablet computing mainstream. Not Microsoft. As the incumbent, Microsoft's not going anywhere. But it plays catch up more often than it leads, at least when it comes to the things people care about now, like the web and mobile.

What's at stake? Nothing less than the future. Microsoft wants computing to continue to be tied to the desktop—three screens and a cloud, as Ballmer is fond of saying. For Apple, it's all about closed information appliances with lots of third-party apps, computers anybody can use. And for Google, all roads lead to the internet, and the internet is synonymous with Google.
But this Department of Defense image of F/A-18 Super Hornets flying over Afghanistan (lit by some sort of flare?), makes mechanized war look as romantic as any chick flick. Meanwhile, this refueling shot is pure sci-fi:
Light painting was the killer technique behind the winners in our slow shot photo contest—and it's how this quite awesome Hennessy ad was made, not CGI. Wanna know how they do it? A couple of images along with an internal Dell announcement landed on our virtual doorstep this fine morning, and lo and behold, it looks as if a 7-inch and 10-inch Streak tablet is on the horizon. But that's not all -- we learned that the "coming soon" we heard earlier regarding the Aero's release date on AT&T really means "June." Later this "summer," said phone will be joined by the Streak 5 (yeah, that's the Mini 5 we've had for months now) for those who prefer a more capable mobile. As for the 7-inch Streak? Look for it to launch (presumably with or without AT&T support) late in 2010, while a 10-inch flavor follows in "early 2011." Is Sidetalkin' really about to return? We're ready -- so ready.

2TB hard drive review roundup: Samsung, Seagate and WD throw down

It's a 2TB world, folks, and if you're looking to select a new drive to archive your upcoming vacation footage, you owe it to yourself to do a little research before pulling the trigger. Currently, 2TB options are on the market from Seagate, Western Digital and Samsung, and while all are in the 3.5-inch SATA form factor, they certainly aren't equal. The benchmarking gurus over at Hot Hardware decided to toss no fewer than ten 2TB drives into the mix, and after running 250 or so tests, they found that WD's RE4 2TB came out on top. 'Course, that just so happens to be the most expensive platter in the bunch, checking in at around $0.16 per gigabyte; the admittedly slower Caviar Green 2TB and Seagate Barracuda LP 2TB both came in at less than half of that. Go on and give that source link a look if you're into bar charts and in-depth analysis of bits and bytes -- and remember, friends don't let friends buy lousy storage.

Zune HD hacked, OpenZDK now available to developers

Well, it looks like the first 64GB Zune HDs landing in customers' hands may not be the biggest Zune news today after all. As proudly announced the ZuneBoards website, the Zune HD -- and all earlier Zunes, although the potential there is a tad more limited -- "have been hacked." While obviously not the first hack of any sort for the devices, this is described as the "first true hack," and it has made the concurrently-released OpenZDK possible. That effectively gives developers "access to everything XNA withheld before," which more or less opens to doors to any type of application that can run on the Zune hardware -- games, emulators, app stores, you name it. Of course, there's not a ton for average Zune users to play with at the moment, but developers can find all they need to get cracking at the source link below.

Crazed turntablists transform sneakers into sound controllers, righteous beats result (video)

We're generally quite wary of any video meant to "go viral" and "sell a lot of shoes" (or sell a lot of whatever), but from time to time something comes along and cracks our jaded shell. Case in point: the new Japanese campaign for Nike's Free Run+ running shoes sees experimental musician / DJ Daito Manabe and co. bangin' out a tune with the company's newest. The kicks are outfitted with flex sensors (which change resistance when bent), allowing some impressive control of effects via Max/MSP and Ableton Max for Live. Have you ever wanted to hear a hip-hop version of Thus Spoke Zarathustra? How about one performed on running shoes? You're in luck -- we got it for you after the break.
British retailer mobiles.co.uk -- a wholly-owned subsidiary of giant Carphone Warehouse, for what it's worth -- is claiming a "man on the inside" as saying that the X10 actually can do multitouch after all, despite word from a Sony Ericsson product manager to the contrary. In fact, not only can it do multitouch, but it will do multitouch through a software update in the second half of the year, the source goes on to say. This all ties in nicely with the dude's claim that the X10 will see an official update to Android 2.1 in September, a window that dovetails rather nicely with Sony Ericsson's official line of 2H 2010. Of course, by the time September rolls around, we can only assume that Froyo will be alive and well, so the ultimate question of relevancy for Sony Ericsson's very first Android venture remains to be answered.

ATR and VStone debut 'life-sized' Robovie R3 humanoid robot

It's been less than a month since the iPod touch-based Robovie-mR2 rolled into our hearts, but the folks at ATR and Vstone have now already moved on to their next creation: the Robovie R3 humanoid robot. Designed primarily to aid in research involving the elderly or disabled, the R3 is apparently "life-sized," and packs 11 touch sensors throughout its body, along with a pair of USB cameras for eyes, two microphones and a speaker, an optional laser range finder, and a top speed of 2.5 kilometers per hour. It's also apparently reasonably adept at getting around, with it able to move omnidirectionally and overcome small changes in floor height, and able to lend a hand thanks to its "gripper hands." Of course, "research" is the operative word here, as this particular bot will only be made available to various institutions working with robots, and at the decidedly un-consumer-friendly price of ¥3,800,000 (or just over $41,000).

Sprint's iPad '4G case' features an Overdrive pocket, oodles of irony

Listen Sprint, we get it, you want the whole US drooling over an iDevice hitting the internet at 4G speeds. First you extolled the virtues of WiMAX in an ad featuring the iPhone, and now you're going so far as to give away a special "4G" iPad case for free with the purchase of an Overdrive from Best Buy -- and yes, to be sure, the tote features a special pouch for your new mobile hotspot. No word yet on if placing a 3G iPad in the case creates some singularity from which no nearby object can escape (or get reception, for that matter).

Massive, solar powered bird is overseeing Coachella, pretty stoked about its chance to see Phoenix

This massive structure will greet you this weekend if you're headed to the Coachella music festival. It's a 45-foot tall solar-powered crane (the bird), and it boasts multicolored LEDs for what will surely be an awe-inspiring night. The huge art installation has a wingspan of 150 feet and weighs about 35,000 pounds. The photovoltaic-powered birdie was designed by Crimson Collective, and it's just another reason we're regretting our decision not to head out west for the festival. If you're lucky enough to be at Coachella, be sure to snap some closeups of the origami-styled crane hanging out with Steve Malkmus for us, okay? This week, while we gave our new 15-inch MacBook Pro a thorough review, they were busy tearing theirs apart and admiring the juicy insides. Aside from the obvious processor upgrade, not much has changed since 2009 except the odd antenna and tri-wing screw, but it appears that the AirPort / Bluetooth assembly now resembles that of the 13-inch unibody MacBook. But we can't play 24/7 hours. So here is a autoplayer who plays your mafia wars automatically. it's supported by chrome and mozilla. But the chrome version is well-known, and a nice peice of programmed extension!
just give a try. Just hit the mafia wars, go outside, play, roam, dance, come home, till the time the auto-player would play your mafia game automatically.
just give a try it works like a charm!

SUPPORT:
Running along the same lines as Uppsala University's algae-based batteries, researchers at Stanford are generating electrical current by tapping into the electron activity of individual algae cells. The team designed a gold electrode that can be pushed through a cell membrane, which then seals around it. The cell, still alive, does what it does best (photosynthesis), at which point scientists harvest chemical energy in the form of electrons. According to Stanford University News, this results in "electricity production that doesn't release carbon into the atmosphere. The only byproducts of photosynthesis are protons and oxygen." Of course, the team has a long way to go before this is economically feasible, but who knows? Maybe there's an algae-powered OPhone in your future...

Winscape virtual window features Wiimote headtracking, absolutely made of win

We have not modified the above picture in any way -- Scout's Honor. That's a real baby, wearing a real IR necklace that interacts with a real Wiimote. What's not real, of course, is the view of San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. That is generated by Ryan Hoagland's DIY virtual window, a brilliant pastiche of interior design, RED ONE footage and Johnny Chung Lee-style headtracking, all directed to your eyes by a Mac Pro feeding a pair of plasma screens. As the viewer moves around, dual 1080p images move the opposite direction, providing the convincing illusion of looking out a real pane of glass at the incredibly detailed scenery beyond. Exciting? Then you'll be giggling like Jr. when you hear it's for sale. After spending a year figuring out how to mount, drive and cool the whole shebang, Hoagland would like you to have one too; he plans to have basic kits ready by July for under $3000. Watch baby-powered plasma in motion after the break, as well as a sweet time-lapse video of the build process.
In a discussion on its 3G network set to launch July 1st, he had this to say: "The good news is that (Apple) is coming out with a new version of the iPhone in the June time-frame and they're going to put us on that. So we're quite excited about that." A new version, you say? We wouldn't be that surprised, frankly, since new iPhones have launched every summer for the past three years, but there's still been nary a peep yet from the folks in Cupertino. Is Watson mistaken or speaking way out of turn? The man would be in a position to conceivably have the inside scoop. Guess we'll find out soon enough.

Update: Just to be clear, while SaskTel is currently CDMA, the 3G network it's rolling out is an iPhone-friendly HSPA.
