Well the year is off and running now, about to enter April. We have a few things in store for you this year, mainly the debut of the ROS Project (Reflections of Sorrow). We have been working on this project for about a year and a half now, and are ready to debut in September. This truly is a full embodiment of Spectre with sound, video, visuals and a deep message or Love. Love so strong and powerful it is Toxic. That is the story of Poe and Lenore we are about to unleash in only a few short months (about 6). So stay tuned. Sign up to the Blog and in the mean time please preview some of the songs we put together many moons ago, back in the old garage days before the had the Tools to Finish the Job. We will be providing some tasty morsels for you to sample in the upcoming weeks.

We also have some archival footage for you to peruse and some photos from our flicker stream. Some ROS set photos there. Lastly, if you have not signed up to follow out Twitter stream, please do so as we will be updating that every time there is something worthwhile for you to follow on.

gentlemen a new dawn for spectre will bring warmth upon the cold olden forests of the north, as spectre gears up for the PDX, another monumental project presents itself. & for the first time ever in our long history, we never been more prepared than now, for the first time we will not have to freestyle the whole production, we have an amazing script, great concepts for the audio, and creative set design, we have a vision for that this film is to be and best of all we have the opportunity to tackle new challenges: lighting, cinematography, acting, directing & screenplay - but what we do have is a great film theme and extremely powerful audio/post-production expertise. and like the jacques rogge of spectre, i declare the start of a new spectre chapter. please review your emails...

Gothic Wardrobe for Lenore & Poe

Just wanted to share these two quick images I came across from our Friday night session. This isn't exactly it, but for the Poe look i want something very similar as for Lenore I like how this look is very attractive, seductive, but not slutty. I think the best approach would be a combo of something like this with a Victorian dress component. Keep us posted Contra on what you find for a dress. I will post as soon as I have my wardrobe together.

Side Note: Contra and I will finalize the prop list on wednesday night. Neuro is working on identifying home grown lighting solutions and equipment. Flurry needs to review camera angles and indie filming camera techniques, PlusOne working on reviewing the poem and script and coming up with acting notes and coaching techniques.

you know optxx, no self-esteem, part of the team, work late till the brain freeze, mind bend, tying hard to comprehend, got the screen resolution on 800x600 for bad eye-sight solution, putting the finishing touches on the story-board, white jelly pen on black is dank, so nice for the presentation, kind o drunk, kind o tired, but so stoked to be part of the processes, escaped the harness, running free on the field, tough on the turf, no sunday action monday breakfast awaits. you will flip when you see the end product. sorry Contra, you know the early worm eats the bird. get ready to say Dammmmmm like the Alkaholics. but contra baptized this beast tonight, got the url in the hangar.

Story-boarding time. taking off to go find an art store to pick up a giant poster board, which we shall break down into sections representing stanzas. We are going to then post all the notes from all the past sessions into scene ideas and start to generate the video and movement flow.

optxx here. Plus1 just dropped me off at the LBC Airport. awaiting to take flight on jetblue to the PDX. going to connect with ContraQU -- for the Raven Project preproduction meeting. unsure as to Flurry's whereabouts. NOTE TO ALL: meeting online tonight at 23:00 PST. have been looking forward to this meeting for some time now. am very excited about the new prospect of the Raven Project, again everything is flowing so well, looking to bang out the last 7 stanzas tonight.

The production schedule for this weekend is light in typical Spectre terms but if we accomplish all we set out to do come Monday and Martin Luther King Jr. Day we will have:

-a complete rough sketch of video flow
-started a story board (will post imgs online)
-key music/sound highlights location IDed per Stanza
-started working version of the script
-identified key filming locations
-shot prelim location video (will post vids online)
-mapped video sequences onto stanza's

wish optxx safe flight as this is his first time (at age 3x something) flying alone and accompanied. see you on the iChat.

Here are notes from 10/10 meeting regarding Raven. Please feel free to comment to this post with additional info and or ideas.

Raven responsibilities:

Optxx: Producer, Audio mixing

Flurry: Please Add

Neuro: Audio editing, Video editing

Plus One: Please Add

Contraqu: Director, Video editing

All with have their hands in filming as some scenes will require multiple angles and pans.

General ideas:

-Photo copy art: Michelle to dress in multiple Victorian/Gothic dresses and will be photographed around Portland in front of and in historic and/or aged structures. These will be photocopied by Optxx approximately 1000X and plastered in the "home" setting.

-Many Steccato video or still images mixed through the filming. Examples: close up of biting into raw, bloody meet, Raven video, childhood images and sequences, Video of Poe's history, etc

-THEME of film: Love, Madness, Never Forgetting, Repentance

Shooting Schedule: March 19-23

Stanza synopsis (tentative):

1: Optxx sitting in study lit by television and/or fire. Sipping drink and in a stupor. Long pipe. Mid-Narrow shot. On television-scenes of childhood (Christo in black suit)

2: Fireplace with burning photos (not throwing in fire yet). Eagerly wanting tomorrow to come (show sunrise in cemetery). To do: get empty capsules to show taking pills. "Nameless here for evermore" Looking at library at this point. Then pans back to him and pops pills.

Optxx...the links of pix for your friend's villa are amazing. This will be a great location if we are able to film here. Lets shoot for investigating further this weekend.

I have alternate or additional park locations that i documented for possible use.

In addition, I documented some downtown locations in some downtrodden parts of town.

As we work out scenes and outdoor locations, we can work determine specifics.

Sorry for the delay on the location scouting. I will also follow this post up with notes from 1/10/09 meeting.

Given the Gothic tone that Raven will take on, I think that the first location will fit well given an outdoors scene. I thnk the gothic style of the bridge supports and towers will be a fitting style for the mood that we are going for. Lots of industrial building across the river will also lend to the mood.

Strong Start to 2009

Cheers Spectre! Solid session tonight. We had a major breakthrough on the Raven Project. Were able to digest our way through half the poem, gained great insight into the both the meaning and our own postulations for the video flow and were able to storyboard some excellent scenes. This project will not be easy but will prove to be our key defining moment and production piece as a group. Quick takeaways:

-was able to finish the new website layout, notice the nice background, was able to fix that issue.
-Next weekend January 16-19 Pre-Production on the Raven Project: Optxx and Flurry will be venturing out for an in person inspection and tour of the Studio PDX, hosted by ContraQU
-Next session will be January 16th at 2200 PST, ContraQU, Flurry & Optxx will trasmit from Studio PDX, Neurodexter from DE Munich, and PlusOne from OC Central
-We set the date for the Raven Project Production: March 20-24 so get your flight travel taken care of early to avoid the rush.

Hey all you Spectrins! It looks like we have access to the files, I have been told the Sound Bytes von Jake are available to us. I will be getting the files posted just as soon as I speak to Herr Muth. I think with the size of all the aiffs (of which I will compress into MP3) we will need to all refresh our FTP hook ups for the intitial storage. I think my side will be the only issue as the internet *upload-dwnload speeds are excruciatingly slow compared to the good ole' Vereinigte Staaten.

OK, I will be there for a meeting tonight, but as a disclaimer I have to go to IKEA with Silke for the neues Wohnung wir haben. Therefore I will have to be at the office early in order to interphace/

Raven Project first steps

It's simple. The poem is the plot. There are two ways to read this poem, the literal reading as if watching your favorite TV show or the sub-dermal themes of love, pain, guilt and memory. What i propose is simple: We focus on the human themes and play-out the physical manifestations of the mental anguish (all under a tortured light). i don't have all or many of the scenes worked out, but i have a vision for how the entire vid will flow. Shoot the music video as a movie of sequences that a held together by the music and narration. The narration dictates the mental activity and physical movement - scene location - decor - gesticulations, while the music expresses emotion.

Synopsis: Music and Video start synchronously, narration starts within 5 seconds, jumps right in, we act out all the literal action sequences, and all metal/emotional thoughts/feelings are video sequences. Thus in the end once narration is complete. There is an understanding of the narrators pain. The narrator and the main actor are one and the same both iterations of the 1st and 3rd person.

Here are a few ideas for telling sequences:
i) in the library room he is reading there are a thousand photocopy images (1000) xerox pages, taped on the walls, completely obsessive, and mad of Lenore. Total rave style old school flyer type images xeroxed and blended, total underground style existence. Think back to our early days, Neurodexter and Flurry in particular, all the xerox photos, so sick. but this time around its obsessing on Lenore.
ii) at a certain point where the narration is insane with the most amount of meaning and character description pull a play out of Evidence's playbook (http://spectreglobal.blogspot.com/2008/12/inspired-by-evidence.html) and have the main character, henceforth referred to as Poe, hold the cards with narration, and flip through them at the rate of narration (location will be important for this one).
iii) Poe finds a crumpled dollar on the ground he opens it up and scrawled on it is "Nevermore", then as part of the sequence, Contra works some CGI magik and we have some stop action photography like in that Saturday Night Live video the Lazy Sunday (http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/video/clips/chronicles-of-narnia-lazy-sunday/2921/) where we have the dollar blow on the ground, stops, then the letters in sharpie start appearing then the dollar folds itself, and is picked up by Poe bringing it back to the start.
iv) Poe is off in some corner demented with a razor blade craving the name Lenore on one fore-arm and "Nevermore" on the other fore-arm.
v) whenever the raven is mentioned in the narration we film Poe from the vantage view of the Raven, from up upon the perch, down from the door jamb, from outside the windows, etc.
vi) we are going to assume she is dead due to the angels appearing, we will leave it up to the audience to decipher how she die, tragik nevertheless, but we flash in there Poe at the cemetery, here is the tragik twist, Poe is still alive now in the modern era, caught somehow in this holding pattern in a weird purgatory, and his nepenthe are the drugs and drink Poe did, we know he was an addict one of the first, tragik romantic superstars (we research all that he was into and re-enact some of those moments - like when he was found in the gutter, etc).
vii) field of crows and try to catch views of them in flight
viii) the scene where there is a fire in the fireplace, Poe is burning pictures of her we need real black and whilte photographs, and he is burning poems and in a fit of anger and jealousy burning and tearing poems out of a book.

These are but a sample of what we will come up with. i am looking forward to the 2nd of January 2009, were we will dissect stanza by stanza and fill in the blanks.

The timeline is as follows:
a) Pre-production in Portland Jan 16-19
b) Filming in Portland late March
c) Post-production video editing, several studios throughout the world
d) Video Screening Munich Germany, hopefully Octoberfest 2009, in time for Halloween 09
e) Entering Movie in film festivals around the world and promoting the free online distribution.

What up Spectre! Hope you are all having great Holidays and some well deserved time off. I have been having some mad brainstorms lately and the forecast is force 5 hurricane gales up ahead. optxx back back at it. yo - great session friday night, i feel like we made some great progress, have to be brief with this post, but had some ideas and definitely want to solidify some of our or key takeaways from last friday night. having the video unfold or at least the majority from the point of view of the raven i think is brilliant. i think it makes the raven even more important and it gives more ominous bearing on the subject which is the student as we shall refer to the main character. as for Lenore. I think we can talk about this further, but upon reviewing the poem further and thinking about this after friday night's session before going to sleep, i think the poem tells us exactly what to do, there is the student, he loved lenore so much, we don't quite know what happened to her except that she is gone, never to return, and he is addicted to her thoughts perpetually thinking of her, but is so hurt that all he wants is to forget and move on. two lines 1) longing: For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore - AND 2) moving on: Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe, and forget this lost Lenore!'

As a side note, i love this video, by Evidence from Dilated Peoples, and i think from time to time we can use some of these sign tactics, take a look and ID what you think.
