Resolution #31
Resolved, never to say anything at all against any person, except when it is necessary for the glory of God, or the good of my neighbour, or my own good.

In simple terms: Edwards resolved never to speak negatively or critically about any person unless it was absolutely necessary for God’s glory, the genuine good of that person, or his own spiritual well-being.This resolution targets gossip, slander, unnecessary criticism, and careless speech. Edwards wanted his words to be governed by love and eternity, not by emotion or self-interest.
Why This Matters Today
Our tongues are incredibly powerful. In the age of social media, group chats, and casual conversation, it is very easy to speak against others — venting, criticising, or sharing “prayer requests” that are really gossip. Edwards challenges us to a high standard: our words must pass the test of God’s glory and love for neighbour. As Ephesians 4:29 says, “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”
Applying Resolution 31 Practically
Before speaking about anyone: Ask three questions — Does this glorify God? Does this serve my neighbour’s good? Is it necessary for my own soul?

In conversation: Replace criticism and gossip with prayer, encouragement, or silence.
When correction is needed: Speak privately, gently, and with the goal of restoration (Matthew 18:15).

Living as if Heaven and Hell Are Real

Resolution 30
Resolved, to strive to my utmost to act as I would do, if I had already seen the happiness of heaven, and the horrors of hell.
In simple terms: Edwards resolved to live every day with such intensity and holiness as if he had already glimpsed the joys of heaven and the terrors of hell. He wanted his daily conduct shaped by eternal reality, not by temporary comforts. This resolution is a powerful call to eternal perspective. Edwards refused to let the visible world dull his sense of the invisible. He wanted to live with the urgency and purity of someone who had seen both the reward and the judgment.

Never to Allow Doubt or Questioning of Conversion

)Jonathan Edwards had resolved to maintain strict temperance in eating and drinking (Resolution 20) and to live with constant readiness for the last trumpet (Resolution 19). Now he addressed one of the most crippling attacks on the Christian life — doubt about whether one is truly converted.
Resolution 26
Resolved, to cast away all such things as make me doubt my salvation, or make me question whether I am truly converted.
In simple terms, Edwards resolved never to entertain or allow anything that caused him to doubt his salvation or question whether he was genuinely converted. Whenever such doubts arose, he would immediately reject them and return to the promises of God.This resolution reflects Edwards’ deep pastoral wisdom. He understood that Satan often attacks believers not through obvious sin, but through paralyzing doubt — causing them to question their standing with God and robbing them of joy and confidence in service.
Why This Matters Today

The High Cost of the Hiring Nominals: Why Your Organization Needs Regenerate Integrity

In the modern marketplace, "integrity" is often treated as a buzzword or a line item in an employee handbook. However, for the discerning recruiter, there is a growing realisation that nominalism—professing a faith or value system without the corresponding "fruit"—is one of the most significant liabilities an organisation can face.

Nominal believers are arguably more dangerous to hire than those who profess no faith at all. When an individual pretends to be something they are not, they are practising a form of "hypocritisism" that erodes the moral foundation of a team. As their numbers increase, they begin to define the climate. J. Gresham Machen warned that "hollowing out", meaning to fit the spirit of the age, results in "character-destruction". In a professional context, this manifests as compartmentalisation: living "church on Sunday" while adopting utilitarian or Darwinian "survival of the fittest" ethics from Monday through Saturday. They are Christians at church, but something else at work.

The Regenerate Edge
True believers, by contrast, possess a "Marketplace Anointing" that transforms their professional life into mission outposts. They do not "work to live" for personal status; they "live to work" for the glory of God as per the first item on the Westminster Confession. This shift is not merely theological; it is technically advantageous for the employer. Truly regenerate individuals operate with Christian Servant Leadership Spiritual Intelligence (CSLSI), which is associated with:

Resilience: Seeing workplace problems as "learning opportunities" orchestrated by a sovereign God.
High Reasoning: Resisting the "amygdala-driven" spirit of fear and moving into a state of "trust mode" that facilitates superior decision-making and creativity.
Hetero-agapism: Utilising other-centred love and forgiveness as cognitive strategies to maintain team order.

Even secular organisations benefit from the fruits of the Spirit behaviours produced by the indwelling Spirit. By selecting regenerate believers, recruiters enhance the moral/spiritual climate and ensure that the "Masks of God" (vocation) are worn by people of genuine substance.

Here are some pointers to help you come up with questions that will help identify who candidates really are in Christ and what to look for in answers:

1. Fuel of Real Change
Question: “Describe a personal weakness or bad habit you struggled with for years but finally overcame recently. What actually made the change stick this time?”What to look for:

The nominal might say something like “I just got more disciplined.”
They depend on "self".
Regenerate person credits a power outside themselves (God, Holy Spirit, Scripture, prayer, etc.).

2. Costly Righteousness
Question: “Tell me about a time you chose to do the right thing even though you knew it would cost you a promotion, bonus, or client.”What to look for:

The nominal explains it with something similar to “It was the smart long-term move” or “I didn’t want to feel guilty.”
A regenerate person will point to an unchanging moral standard higher than company rules or personal gain. They will credit God, Christ and the Holy Spirit

3. Setbacks as Correction
Question: “We all have tough seasons at work. Describe a big setback that felt more like a necessary correction than just bad luck. How did you respond?”What to look for:

The nominal sees it as random bad luck or someone else’s fault.
Regenerate person → Views it as a learning moment allowed or orchestrated by God and responds with humility and growth.

4. Low-Utility Stewardship
Question: “Tell me about a time you invested time and energy in a colleague who could do absolutely nothing for your career. What did that take from you?”What to look for:

The nominal did it for team harmony or to look nice.
Regenerate person served because they see the other person as valuable in God’s eyes (image-bearer), even when it costs them. They have a need to bear the burden of others.

5. Tedium and Sincerity
Question: “Every job has boring tasks no one will ever check or praise. Walk me through what was going through your mind during the most tedious part of your last work week.”What to look for:

The nominal focuses on “getting it done so the boss doesn’t notice.”
Regenerate person talks about doing it well because they’re working “before the face of God,” not just for people. They see every moment as an opportunity to honour God.

6. Source of Self-Worth
Question: “When you get a glowing performance review, what keeps that praise from going to your head? And when you get a bad one, what keeps it from crushing you?”What to look for:

The nominal relies on their own track record and may say: “I’m good at my job.”
A regenerate person's worth is anchored in glorifying their maker; praise and criticism don’t affect them. They may say something like, "all glory to God" and "give thanks in all things".

7. Standard of Authority
Question: “Describe a time when something was totally legal and normal in your industry, but it still felt wrong to you. How did you handle the tension with your boss’s expectations?”What to look for:

The nominal follows the crowd or company policy.
Regenerate person appeals to a higher moral law that overrides what’s popular or “standard practice.” He may point to what's right or wrong in the sight of God.

8. Architecture of Character
Question: “Who in your life has the most permission to tell you you’re wrong or acting out of pride? Can you share a specific time you actually listened and changed a work habit because of their feedback?”What to look for:

The nominal defends themselves or only accepts gentle feedback. The self is so important that it needs to be defended at all costs.
A regenerate person shows genuine humility and repentance and a burning need to honour God. They may point to a pastor, elder or a brother in the Lord to whom they are accountable

9. Vocational Truth
Question: “Tell me about a time you went back and fixed a small detail in a project that was already ‘good enough’ for the client and your boss. Why did you bother?”What to look for:

The nominal will do it to protect their reputation or avoid future problems. Perhaps even to impress.
A regenerate person couldn’t stand leaving something false or half-done because their work reflects their relationship with God and His righteousness. They do not want to dishonour him.

10. Definition of Success
Question: “Ten years from now, imagine your career looks successful by everyone else’s standards—but you had zero positive impact on the character of the people around you. How would you feel about that decade?”What to look for:

The nominal will call it a win if they hit targets and achieve their career goals.
A regenerate person will say it would be a failure because they did not bring the light of God to the lost in their environment.

Note: The above are pointers that help reveal the two categories of professing Christians. The nominal far outnumber truly regenerate believers, and very often the differences are not so visible. Drawing from Christ’s paradigmatic encounter with the adulterous woman (John 8:1–11), His model of love toward both disciples and enemies, and the Reformed doctrine of radical corruption, the paper outlines how the regenerate believer navigates relationships with fellow believers (for mutual edification) and with the unregenerate (for gospel witness, mercy, and wise boundaries). Special attention is given to the professional environment. Scripture offers no sentimental optimism about unredeemed human nature. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” (Jeremiah 17:9 ESV). Jesus Himself declared, “No one is good except God alone” (Mark 10:18 ESV). Paul describes the pre-regenerate state as “dead in the trespasses and sins” in which we once walked, following “the prince of the power of the air” and carrying out “the desires of the body and the mind” (Ephesians 2:1–3 ESV).

The reprobate lives helplessly under the dictates of the counterfeit kingdom—autonomy as lord, pleasure as telos, self as centre. From this root flows every form of relational wickedness: manipulation, betrayal, lustful objectification, verbal cruelty, passive-aggressive control, envy, and self-justifying gossip.

The regenerate believer once walked in this darkness and still battles its remnants (Romans 7:15–25). This realism is not cynicism; it is mercy. It protects against naïve humanism (assuming people are basically good) and Pharisaic moralism (demanding righteousness from unregenerate hearts). Expecting depravity frees the believer from shock and bitterness, allowing him to love without illusion—anchored not in the other person’s potential goodness, but in the unchanging goodness of God.

2. Christ’s Correction of Legalism: John 8 as Paradigm
The Pharisees’ treatment of the woman caught in adultery (John 8:1–11) illustrates what happens when depravity is acknowledged but grace is absent.They dragged her before Jesus not out of zeal for holiness but to trap Him. Their solution—stoning—was externally correct yet internally corrupt. Jesus exposed their hypocrisy: “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.” Convicted by conscience, the accusers departed.

Alone with the woman, Jesus neither minimised her sin nor crushed her under condemnation: “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”This pattern defines People Dynamics:

With the reprobate (unregenerate):
The posture shifts but the centre remains: expect wickedness without bitterness, offer mercy without compromise, speak truth plainly while pointing to Christ, pursue redemption without coercion, and set wise boundaries when necessary (2 Thessalonians 3:6–15).
5. Application in the Professional Environment
In the workplace, People Dynamics becomes especially practical and visible. Professional settings often bring together regenerate and reprobate hearts in close, prolonged contact—under pressure, with competing agendas, power dynamics, and performance expectations. The regenerate does not retreat into isolation or adopt worldly pragmatism (“win at all costs”). Instead, he applies theocentric reasoning: every interaction, email, meeting, decision, and conflict is filtered through the question, “How can I glorify God here?”

With regenerate colleagues: Hetero-agapism manifests as mutual encouragement, accountability, and collaboration that honours Christ. Truth is spoken in love, credit is given generously, and conflicts are resolved biblically rather than politically.
With reprobate colleagues or superiors: The believer expects self-centred behaviour (manipulation, credit-stealing, gossip, favouritism) without surprise. He responds with integrity, diligence, and mercy—working heartily as for the Lord (Colossians 3:23), refusing to participate in evil, yet extending kindness and gospel witness where possible. Boundaries are maintained wisely (e.g., refusing unethical shortcuts) without bitterness or retaliation.

Brief Scenario:
Sarah, a regenerate believer, works in a marketing team led by a highly competent but self-centred manager (reprobate). The manager frequently takes credit for team ideas, gossips about colleagues, and pressures the team to cut ethical corners for client wins. When Sarah’s idea wins a major account, the manager presents it as his own in the company meeting.Low reasoning would respond with resentment, passive-aggression, or quiet quitting. High reasoning (theocentric) leads Sarah to:

Privately confront the manager with truth and grace (“I noticed the idea was presented as yours; I’d appreciate proper credit in future—how can we work together more honourably?”).
Continue working diligently as unto the Lord, refusing to gossip or sabotage.
Pray for the manager’s salvation and look for natural opportunities to share the gospel.
If the behaviour continues and affects integrity, escalate wisely through proper channels while maintaining a gentle spirit.

Sarah’s centre remains God’s glory, not winning the argument or protecting her reputation. The outcome may be promotion, continued tension, or even job change—but the goal is faithfulness, not favourable results.
6. JE-R Application: Daily Practice
People Dynamics is lived in ordinary moments:

Betrayal → Forgive quickly, speak truth if needed, entrust justice to God.
Manipulation → Refuse control, respond with grace and firmness.
Unfaithful love → Maintain hetero-agapism without enabling.
Rejection → Rest in the Father’s approval, keep blessing those who curse.

Every interaction becomes a JE-R decision: “Glorify God right now, with this person, in this circumstance.”
Conclusion
People Dynamics is not a relational technique to master. It is the fruit of a heart captured by Christ’s love—beginning with total depravity, empowered by the gospel, sustained by the Spirit, and aimed at God’s glory and kingdom multiplication.In a world of darkened hearts, this is the only love that endures without burning out, growing bitter, collapsing under pressure, or compromising holiness. The Great Reorientation of Life Under the God Agendum

Man was made in the image of God for one supreme purpose: to glorify Him.
Yet the fall locked humanity into anthrōpocentrism —
the tragic inward turn where self becomes the gravitational centre of every thought, desire, decision, and relationship.
The gospel reverses this trajectory.
Regeneration produces heterocentrism —the grace-enabled reorientation of life away from self and toward the Other. This reorientation unfolds in two inseparable movements:1. Theocentrism – God as Supreme CentreThe regenerate believer lives first and last for God’s glory.

All intent, will, reason, and action orbit around Him.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37).
Theocentrism is not duty; it is delight — the heart finding its true rest in the One who made it.
“You have made us for Yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in You.” — Augustine

Without theocentrism, there is no authentic heterocentrism — only moralism, religious performance, or disguised self-interest.2. Hetero-agapism – Others as Relational CentreFrom theocentrism flows hetero-agapism: self-giving love toward neighbor.

The believer absorbs offense, accommodates weakness, forbears with patience, and serves without demanding reciprocation.
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves” (Philippians 2:3).
This is the backbone of People Dynamics: the hetero-agapic person turns potential conflict into gospel opportunity.
By living Christ-like in the face of anthrōpocentrism, the regenerate believer becomes a living witness — gently pointing the anthrōpocentric heart toward regeneration and the God Agendum.

Why This MattersAnthrōpocentrism fuels every form of chaos:

Self-pleasure over procreation → recreational sex and perversion.
Self-protection over covenant → divorce and broken families.
Self-justification over grace → judgmentalism and division.

Heterocentrism restores order:

Theocentrism aligns every decision with God’s glory.
Hetero-agapism rebuilds relationships, families, and churches.
Together they advance the God Agendum: multiplying image-bearers who glorify God and fill the earth with His kingdom.

The InvitationThe world runs on anthrōpocentrism.
The church is called to live differently — radically, visibly, joyfully hetero-centric.This is not a technique.
It is a transformation only grace can produce.Examine your heart:

Is your life orbiting self, or orbiting God and others?
Are you accommodating weakness with Christ-like love, or defending your rights?
Are your relationships a platform for kingdom advance, or a battleground for self?

The answer reveals whether you are living the God Agendum… or still captive to the counterfeit.
Choose this day whom you will serve.
Not self.
Not pleasure.

Never to Do Anything Out of Revenge (Revisited with Greater Strictness)

Resolved, never to do anything, which if I should see in another, I should count a just occasion to despise him for, or to think any way the more meanly of him.
In simple terms: Edwards resolved never to do anything that, if he saw someone else do, he would despise or think less of them for it. This is a deeper, more searching application of the no-revenge principle: avoid every action that would lower his own moral estimation of another person if the roles were reversed.

Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs is one of the most influential models in personal development and positive psychology. The pyramid is intuitive: begin at the base with physiological needs (food, water, shelter), move upward through safety, love and belonging, esteem, and finally reach self-actualization at the peak. Positive psychology builds directly on this foundation, promoting resilience, growth mindset, optimism, and self-optimization to help individuals climb toward their “best self” (Seligman, 2011; Dweck, 2006).

It’s empowering, evidence-based, and widely adopted—from corporate training programs to TED Talks and coaching certifications.

But what if the pyramid is upside down?
As a former performance coach trained in NLP and steeped in positive psychology frameworks, I once taught this model with conviction. Clients set SMART goals, reframed limiting beliefs, cultivated positive emotions, and saw measurable progress. Yet after encountering Reformed theology and a deeper reading of Scripture, I saw the core problem: the model is anthropocentric. It places the self at the apex, assuming fulfillment is achieved through human effort and sequential satisfaction of needs. For the regenerated believer, Scripture inverts this hierarchy: spiritual values—union with Christ, living by the Spirit—become the foundation, enabling us to steward or endure lower needs without being defined or enslaved by them.The Inverted Hierarchy: Spirit at the BaseMaslow positioned self-actualization as the ultimate goal: realizing one’s full potential after lower needs are met (Maslow, 1943). Positive psychology extends this with tools like PERMA (Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, Accomplishment) and growth mindset training—emphasizing self-directed habits and resilience to climb the pyramid (Seligman, 2011; Dweck, 2006).

Scripture reverses the direction. For believers, “self-actualization” is not a peak to reach but a gift already received in Christ (Ephesians 2:10: “We are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works”). The Holy Spirit empowers contentment and purpose in any circumstance (Philippians 4:11–13: “I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content... I can do all things through him who strengthens me”). Jesus Himself lived this inversion: hungry and tempted in the wilderness (physiological unmet), rejected by crowds (belonging unmet), crucified in suffering (safety unmet)—yet fully actualized in the Father’s will (John 4:34: “My food is to do the will of him who sent me”).In this biblical inversion:

The foundation is spiritual union with Christ and life in the Spirit.
Lower needs (physiological, safety, belonging, esteem) are stewarded—not idolized or made prerequisites.
Ambition becomes holy: vigorous stewardship for God’s glory, not self-exaltation.

In simple terms: Edwards resolved to practice rigorous self-discipline and moderation in all eating and drinking—never indulging to excess, never letting appetite rule reason or conscience.
This resolution reflects a holistic view of sanctification: the body belongs to God (1 Corinthians 6:19–20), and even daily habits like meals should glorify Him. Acting as if Judgment Is Imminent

Jonathan Edwards didn’t just want to live out of his brightest spiritual moments or keep death in view. He took it further—he wanted to live every hour ready for Christ’s return, as if he could hear that final trumpet any minute.

Here’s Resolution 19 in his words:

Resolved, never to do anything, which I should be afraid to do, if I expected it would not be above an hour, before I should hear the last trump.

Put simply, Edwards decided he’d never do anything he’d be ashamed of if Jesus showed up in the next hour. This resolution feels a lot like his earlier ones about living with death in mind, but now the focus sharpens—the sudden return of Christ, the kind described in 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17. Edwards wanted nothing in his life that would make him shrink back in shame when judgment came.

Why does this matter now? Most of us drift through our days acting like tomorrow is a given and Jesus’ return is far off. Edwards won’t let us off the hook. He asks, “If I knew Jesus was coming back in the next hour, would I still be doing this?” That question has a way of cutting through our excuses, revealing what we’re trying to hide, and lighting a fire under our love for God and people.

Jesus said,

“You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect” (Matthew 24:44).

So what does living out Resolution 19 actually look like? Before you act, pause and ask: “If the trumpet sounded in 60 minutes, would I regret this?” When you’re alone, refuse anything you’d be afraid to have exposed at Christ’s return—hidden habits, secret bitterness, dishonesty, whatever it is. With your priorities, choose what really lasts. Invest in Scripture, prayer, people, sharing the gospel. And when temptation hits, remind yourself: “This could be my last hour.”

Some questions to chew on:
What would I drop instantly if I knew Christ was on his way?
What would I rush to do before time ran out?
What parts of my life need repentance or a serious reset in light of this?

Edwards checked himself every week, reviewing his resolutions so he’d stay alert and ready. That kind of regular reflection keeps us from drifting. Resolution 19 pulls us into a life that’s watchful, urgent, and unafraid—always ready for the sound of the trumpet.

Living at Peak Spiritual Clarity

Jonathan Edwards had resolved to live in light of how he would wish to have lived at death (Resolution #17) and to speak evil only when truly necessary (Resolution #16). Now he aimed higher: to live consistently at the level of his clearest spiritual moments.

Resolved, to live so at all times, as I think is best in my devout frames, and when I have clearest notions of things of the gospel, and another world.
In simple terms: Edwards resolved to live every day—ordinary moments included—as he would live during his most spiritually alive, devout, and clear-minded times, when the truths of the gospel and eternity felt most real and compelling.
This resolution fights spiritual inconsistency. Edwards knew that devotion ebbs and flows—high moments of clarity give way to dullness. He wanted no gap between his "best" self and his everyday self.Why This Matters TodayWe all have "highs"—times when prayer feels alive, Scripture burns, eternity feels near. Why Discipleship Could Make Half Your Training Budget Obsolete – A Theocentric Rethink for Workplaces

As someone who has spent years coaching professionals and leaders from diverse fields, I’ve seen the same pattern repeat: companies invest heavily in soft-skills training—customer service workshops, team-building retreats, leadership development programs, emotional intelligence seminars, conflict resolution sessions—and yet the results often feel temporary. Behaviours improve for a few weeks, then drift back. Turnover remains high. Trust issues linger. Ethical shortcuts still happen. There is a reason for this.

Because most training targets symptoms, not the root. It tries to teach behaviours without transforming the heart and worldview that drive those behaviours. What if the most powerful, sustainable “training” already exists in the gospel? What if a truly discipled believer—someone being progressively formed into the likeness of Christ—naturally exhibits the very qualities organisations pay millions to develop?
Let me put it more directly: In a workplace filled with genuinely discipled Christians, a significant portion of conventional soft-skills and leadership training could become redundant—or at least dramatically reduced in scope and frequency.
Here’s why, grounded in both Scripture and observable reality:

Exceptional performance flows from working “as for the Lord”
Colossians 3:23–24 doesn’t need a motivational speaker to explain it: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men… you are serving the Lord Christ.”
A discipled believer has an internal audience of One. This produces diligence, ownership, resilience, and excellence that external KPIs and bonuses struggle to sustain long-term.
Genuine customer care is the overflow of loving your neighbour and serving others
Mark 12:31 commands us to love others as ourselves. When that command is alive in the heart (not just memorised), every client, passenger, patient, or end-user is treated as someone made in God’s image. Empathy, patience, attentiveness, and going the extra mile become natural—not scripted responses from a training manual. In fact, the believer is commanded to put others first(Philippians 2:3-4).
Teamwork emerges from humility and the fruit of the Spirit
Philippians 2:3–4: “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” Add Galatians 5:22–23 (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control), and you have someone who listens well, shares credit, resolves conflict redemptively, and celebrates teammates’ wins. Many “collaboration” and “team dynamics” workshops become unnecessary when this is the default posture.
Supportive followership and servant leadership are both rooted in Christ’s example
Jesus washed feet (John 13) and submitted perfectly to the Father (Philippians 2:8). A discipled believer follows authority with respect and grace, strengthens leaders through prayer and honest input, and leads without ego or power plays (Mark 10:42–45). Followers become assets; leaders become developers. Much of what leadership academies charge thousands for is simply learned through following Jesus.

The financial implication is staggering.
Studies consistently show companies spend $800–$1,500+ per employee annually on training and development, with soft skills and leadership programs making up a large share. In many organisations, these budgets run into millions yearly—often with disappointing long-term ROI because behaviour reverts without heart change.
Now imagine redirecting even a quarter of that investment into intentional, gospel-centered discipleship:

Biblical teaching anchored in workplace application
One-on-one biblical coaching and counselling
Accountability structures around integrity and character
Teaching on work as worship (theocentric performance)

What could be the outcome? Teams with:

Lower turnover (contentment and purpose reduce job-hopping)
Higher trust and collaboration (humility replaces ego)
Fewer ethical breaches (fear of the Lord curbs shortcuts)
Sustained excellence (working for Christ outlasts any incentive program)

The foregoing, of course, does not eliminate the important training in general.

Technical and compliance training remain essential (discipleship doesn’t teach technical skills or regulatory updates, or software).
Most workplaces have mixed teams (varying maturity levels + non-believers), so hybrid approaches make sense in transition.
Discipleship is a lifelong process—not instant perfection.

But the principle stands: heart transformation produces behaviour change more durably than behaviour training produces heart change. So that there is a distinctive difference between the Christian lawyer and others.

Building on Part 1, let's confront the consequences: In Africa, where over 60% of sub-Saharan populations identify as Christian (per Pew Research), corruption indices remain alarmingly high. Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya—nations with influential Christian leaders—still grapple with scandals involving embezzlement, nepotism, and abuse of power. Politicians invoke Bible verses at rallies, yet their policies and practices often reflect self-interest, not justice or compassion. Why the disconnect?

Nominal Christians, shaped by anthropocentric prosperity teachings, view faith as a personal prosperity engine rather than a call to holiness and service. In boardrooms and government offices, this translates to the absence of Christlikeness. They may attend church, but they don't exhibit the Sermon on the Mount's ethics: turning the other cheek, loving enemies, seeking first the kingdom. Instead, they operate like unbelievers—chasing profit at any cost, ignoring the poor/needy, and excusing ethical grey areas.

This erodes trust and hinders flourishing. Businesses lose billions to fraud; governments fail to deliver services; societies stagnate. As Proverbs 14:34 warns,

"Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people."

True Christians, anchored in theocentrism, bring light: diligence (Col. 3:23), honesty (Eph. 4:25), and stewardship for God's glory. High performance isn't about self-advancement; it's

"working heartily, as for the Lord" (Col. 3:23).

When Christians live this way, workplaces transform—becoming beacons of integrity, innovation, and equity. They become the right examples to their non-believing peers. Yet, many organisations overlook this. They invest in skills training but ignore character formation. The result? Teams that perform technically but fail morally. In Africa, where faith claims are common, this nominalism perpetuates cycles of underdevelopment. The good news: Change is possible.

As a performance coach, I've spent years working with individuals of all kinds of religious persuasions as well as organisations towards the maximisation of their potential. Over time, I've realised that true high performance isn't just about skills or strategies—it's about worldview. In Africa, where Christianity is professed by a majority in many nations, we face a paradox: widespread claims of faith coexist with rampant corruption, ethical lapses, and stagnant progress. Why? Much of it stems from an anthropocentric theology—often packaged as the prosperity gospel—that shifts the focus from God to self. They are fed this regularly at their churches and charged to return with fat tithes and offerings and enough to engage in Simony.

Anthropocentric theology places humanity at the centre: God exists primarily to bless me with health, wealth, and success. This "name it and claim it" mindset, popularised in many pulpits, reduces faith to a tool for personal gain. The result? Nominal Christians—those who identify as believers but live indistinguishable lives from unbelievers. Their faith is skin-deep, centred on self-fulfilment rather than surrender to Christ.

Biblically, this couldn't be further from the truth. The Westminster Shorter Catechism reminds us that our chief end is "to glorify God and enjoy Him forever" (1 Cor. 10:31; Rom. 11:36). A theocentric worldview—God at the centre—ensures human flourishing not as an end in itself, but as a byproduct of obedience and alignment with His purposes. When we glorify God, we thrive because we're living as we were designed (Ps. 37:4; Matt. 6:33). But anthropocentrism flips this: self-glorification leads to emptiness, as seen in Ecclesiastes' warning about chasing wind.

In the workplace, nominal Christians lack the fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23)—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. They pray for promotion but overlook integrity; they tithe for blessings but tolerate bribery. Not surprisingly, surveys from organisations like Transparency International highlight corruption as a top barrier to African development, even as politicians, business leaders, and influencers publicly claim Christianity. These nominal believers don't bring Christ's light to their environments (Matt. 5:14-16). They blend in, prioritising personal ambition over kingdom values. The upshot? Workplaces suffer from distrust, inefficiency, and moral decay—mirroring the world rather than transforming it. They are not light-bearers.

Living as I Will Wish I Had Lived

)Jonathan Edwards had guarded his speech (Resolution 16) and mastered anger even toward the irrational (Resolution 15). Now he lifted his gaze to the end: living today in light of how he would wish to have lived at life's close.

Resolution 17
Resolved, to live so as I shall wish I had done when I come to die.
In simple terms: Edwards resolved to live every day in such a way that, when death comes, he would look back with no regret—having pursued what truly matters in light of eternity.This resolution ties together many earlier ones: eternal perspective (Res. 7 & 9), full vigor (Res. 6), and rejection of revenge/pride (Res. 14–15). It asks: If I knew this was my final day, how would I live? Then live that way now.Why This Matters TodayMost of us live with vague intentions of "later" change—later I'll forgive, later I'll prioritize family, later I'll serve God more fully. Edwards forces the question: Why wait? Death is certain, time is short. Living "as I shall wish I had done" brings urgency, clarity, and joy to the present.Hebrews 9:27:
