Spider-Man Auction

Dear Friends,

Hope you are doing well and have been safe and healthy since last time we spoke.

I just wanted to take a quick moment and give you a heads-up in regard to an exciting and unique auction that we will be launching October 15th in conjunction with the October 30th release of "Spider-Man 3" on DVD and Blu-ray High-Def

As we have done previously for "Spider-Man" and "Spider-Man 2", we will be auctioning some of the incredible props, amazing wardrobe and the always popular framed Spider-Man costume pieces used in "Spider-Man 3". However, we dug a little deeper into our archives and found some additional items that are extremely rare indeed.

As discussed in "The Spider-Man Chronicles: The Art and Making of Spider-Man3", to get the color, texture and musculature patterns on the Spidey suit for the first two films, over 80 separate screen prints were implemented, one on top of the other, until the final product was completed. We managed to save 15 of the screens used to make the original "Spider-Man" suit, 11 of which Sam has signed. These eleven signed screens, each one-of-a-kind items, have been added to the auction.

Another very rare item was unearthed from the "Spider-Man 2" archives. When we filmed what we referred to as "The Final Battle" in Doc Ock's lair, we had to make both a full-scale fusion machine and two miniature quarter-scale models. One of these rare models needs to remain in Sony archives, but the other we are including in this auction. If you are interested please keep one thing in mind - even at quarter scale, this is a massive item that weighs hundreds of pounds, but I can confidently say it has to be one of the coolest pieces of memorabilia we have ever placed in a "Spider-Man" auction. A picture, measurements and shipping details will accompany the item online.

Additionally, John Frazier, our special effects supervisor who won the Academy Award for his work on "Spider-Man 2," has given us a dozen "hoodies". Although these are not one-of-a-kind, they are fairly rare and are super, super-cool. John gave these as gifts to the cast and crew after we were done filming "Spider-Man 3." They are very handsome and feature raised Spidey webbing on the hood! Check out pictures online. He is donating 2 red mediums, 2 black mediums, 2 red larges, 2 black larges, 2 red extra larges and 2 black extra larges. Get 'em while you can and be the only one in your school or office to have one!

Remember, the numerous other rare and unique pieces will be offered in the auction which goes live Monday Oct 15th at www.sonypictures.com/auction Furthermore, we are proud to announce that a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, an "international Jewish human rights organization dedicated to repairing the world one step at a time." Supervisors Ken Hahn and Peter Nofz, and Animation Supervisor Spencer Cook will reveal the most challenging technical achievements that arose while creating the triple threat of the movie’s three dangerous villains – New Goblin, Venom and Sandman.

Stokdyk, Nofz, Hahn and Cook, who have all worked on the entire Spider-Man trilogy, are coming to Comic-Con to discuss the amazing imagery they created to bring these legendary characters to life!

Stokdyk won the 2005 Academy Award® for Achievement in Visual Effects for his work on Spider-Man 2, and was nominated for his work on Spider-Man. Stokdyk’s other projects include Contact, Starship Troopers, Godzilla and Stuart Little. Stokdyk received his first Oscar® nomination in 2000 as Digital Effects Supervisor for Hollow Man.

Ken Hahn, Digital Effects Supervisor, Spider-Man 3
Hahn served as digital effects supervisor on the Nicolas Cage film Ghost Rider early this year, as well as senior CG supervisor on both Academy Award winning Spider-Man™ 2 and the Academy Award®-nominated Spider-Man. Hahn’s other projects include Academy Award nominated Hollow Man, Starship Troopers and Stuart Little, as well as Godzilla.

Peter Nofz, Digital Effects Supervisor, Spider-Man 3
Nofz worked as Technical Director on Stuart Little and Hollow Man, both of which garnered Academy Award® nominations for Best Visual Effects. Nofz was a CG Supervisor on the Academy Award winning film Spider-Man 2 as well as the Academy Award nominated Spider-Man.

Spencer Cook, Animation Supervisor, Spider-Man® 3
Cook's other credits include animation supervisor on The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, character animator on the Academy Award® winning film Spider-Man® 2, and lead character animator on the Academy Award® nominated films Spider-Man® and Hollow Man.

I assume by now that you have seen "Spider-Man 3." It is my sincerest desire that you enjoyed the film as much as we enjoyed making it. Hopefully, via this website, you gained a unique insight into the process through which the movie was made, while obtaining an education on filmmaking as a whole.

I want to take a moment to thank you for reading my posts over the years and for watching the webisodes. Just as it has been my honor to carry a very small portion of the Spider-Man torch that has been passed down through the generations since Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created the franchise over 40 years ago, it has likewise been my honor to interact with each and every one of you.
