There is not a magic wand in the Universe big enough for us to make anyone else feel happy or sad. Yet, many of us spend years or our entire lives trying to take care of or enable someone with the unconscious belief that we have the wand (power) that will sprinkle more happy dust into their lives. The greatest gift we can give to anyone is to improve our own emotional energy as often as we can. It is the act of taking care of ourselves first that not only empowers us but that others intuitively sense and feel. Our energy then allows others to uplift themselves or not, but it is never something we have done to them or for them, which is at the core of every codependent dance and belief.

The action that is borne out of passion and inspiration will always be more effective and productive than is the action which comes from grinding and trying. That's because the energy of passion literally ignites our cells with a higher frequency than do the slower vibrating energies of tension and resistance. Our deepest self communicates to us in every moment by letting us know whether or not we are in alignment with the positive, joyful essence of who we already are. It is because of this that thoughts which are in alignment with our core spirit feel good inside our bodies and thoughts that are out of alignment feel toxic and bad.

Belief precedes what we can imagine; not the other way around. In other words, I can only imagine possibilities and scenarios that line up with what I first believe I can or cannot do. If I believe I have a great short game, for example, my imagination is going to be much more creative, inventive and, yes, believable than if I am locked into states of anxiety or fear over my chipping and pitching. If I likewise believe that I am a terrible putter, it becomes difficult for me to imagine I can make a lot of putts. We can work on the physical parts of our games as much as we like, but without improved belief, the proof cannot arrive.

Are we using the power of our minds to create what we want, or are our minds using us to react to what we don't? A great question, yes? Are we creators or fixers? People who are emotionally stuck spend most of their time focusing on what is going wrong or what they don't want. Their ability to imagine wonderful things is greatly hampered by problems and an often pathological view that much is broken or needs to be fixed. Creators, on the other hand, tap into the Field of Infinite Possibilities by moving with a dedicated focus toward what is desired. Nothing is broken because nothing needs to be fixed.

We're not suggesting that repressing or inhibiting any thought or emotion on the golf course is the way to go, even if it surrounds intense negative states of frustration, anger or despair. What we're offering instead is that we become more aware of our thoughts, emotions and beliefs as they are presenting and making themselves known, so that we can then, in turn, transmute their energy into something more positive, powerful and alive. As we come to understand the power of awareness and observation, which can only happen in the here and Now, we begin to notice more of the thoughts and emotions that feel good and serve us well. We leave behind the clutter of the fragile egoic mind states that overtake us; empowering ourselves to become masters of our golf games and our lives.

We think it's the golf shots that are upsetting us or making us happy. It is not. It is the positive or negative preconditioned patterns running through the brain that allows us to "see" the shots in a positive or negative way. If we want to change the shots, we have to first change our mindset and how we imagine things will be. Otherwise, we keep on thinking that our shots are random and happening to us independent of our thoughts, and nothing could be further from the truth.

It is important, necessary really, to capture the feeling of accomplishment before accomplishment can arrive. That's because "who we already are" has to be in place before the physical evidence (proof) can show up. Try hard though we may, no amount of practice or action on the golf course or anywhere else can overcome the power of a negative, doubtful, pessimistic mind. The good news comes with the flipside of this; that with belief and a self-convincing, everything imaginable will quickly come our way.

Whenever we are at the mercy of a false belief, the belief has a false power over us. The results we see eventually become skewed and flawed because our perceptions and observations were based upon something that was not true. If we believe that we are at the mercy of our golf shots, for example, we eventually become victims to our results and our score. Or if we believe that our games come from a random set of circumstances outside our control, we again entertain a belief that is not true. Everything we see around us is the manifested projection of our imagination via thought, emotion and belief. Whenever we see golf shots happening to us rather than through us and because of us, we disempower ourselves to allow the false stories we've believed long enough to run the show.

Learning to pay attention to our language before we speak might be one of the most difficult yet important skills we can develop on the golf course or in the course of life. Without the desire to observe and monitor our words, we often speak in highly ineffectual and repetitive ways, uttering the same old phrases (which come from the same old thoughts) that we've habitually spoken for a long, long time. The problem with language is not the words themselves but rather the energy behind the words. Is the energy of what we say spoken with kindness and integrity, or are our words used to berate ourselves or others or fill a void with lots of mindless, repetitive chatter? Either way, words have a tremendously attractive power, so that the words and phrases we repeat long enough and strong enough will begin to take on a much demonstrated life of their own.

When it's all said and done, most of the stories we share while we're on the golf course or in the 19th hole surround tales of toil and hard work and an underlying theme of "it's just not good enough." Our sagas quickly find us conversing with others with similar energies who will attest to the struggle and grind which we as golf warriors somehow manage to endure and survive (a victim/martyr archetype). What we fail to understand is that the way we define or even talk about our game simply attracts more of the very game that we will continue to define. Just as a happy story told long enough is going to eventually work in our favor, a foul one will do nothing other than deliver to us a bunch of frustrating golf shots that will pop up at times we least expect.
