Mind Blowing Art Work! Awesome 3D Shapes Look Superimposed but They Are Actually Painted Surfaces (8 PICS)

2016-01-19T06:50:00.000+08:00

Since 1979, artist Felice Varini has experimented with perspective, painting seemingly random surfaces that look fragmented and disjointed. The ‘big picture’ only comes together when viewed from a specific vantage point.

The Swiss-born, Paris-based artist often uses simple geometric shapes that look almost ‘superimposed’ onto their surroundings. The style is similar to the 3D sidewalk chalk artworks that distort and stretch images, but snap into life when viewed from a certain perspective. The optical illusion, forced perspective art technique is also referred to as Trompe-l’œil.

On Varini’s website you can find all of his artworks in chronological order from 1979 onwards, along with photos of the works from various angles so you can appreciate how Varini uses his environment to achieve the illusion. You can also keep up with the latest news and works from the artist on his Facebook page.

Artist Interacts With Landmarks Using Paper Cutouts (17 PICS)

2016-01-18T17:30:00.000+08:00

"I decided I would become a tourist in my own city- I wanted to see the London that I ignored, to explore the landmarks and the quirky history. I started researching for interesting facts and began thinking about how I could photograph the sites in an original way.

My first idea was using a cut-out to transform Big Ben into a wristwatch. Whilst I was there, a girl and her father took an interest in what I was doing and I showed them the photo on my camera screen. They were full of enthusiasm for the idea, and it spurred me on to do more. I then took photos of St Pauls, the London Eye and Trafalgar Square and whilst I was doing this, I would post them on my Instagram alongside a quirky fact I’d picked up about the landmark. Then one day Lonely Planet contacted me on Instagram, they liked what I did and wondered if I wanted to create some photos for them. Of course I said yes, and it led me to Stockholm, Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Paris- I crammed in so much in the few days I was in each city, running around with a camera, handful of cut-outs and a head full of random facts to accompany each photo." –Rich McCor

Photo-Like Paintings of this Korean artist will amaze you (7 PICS)

2016-01-18T17:20:00.002+08:00

Korean artist Hyung Jin Park uses photographs as inspiration to create equally realistic paintings of young Asian women.

He generally paints bust-length portraits of a monumental scale, up to seven feet high, depicting women at close range. The hair, lips, eyes and skin are painted with a high level of precision, making them unbelievably real. His photorealistic technique is so accurate that once he completes a piece, it’s almost impossible to tell if it’s a high-resolution photograph or a painting.

But Park’s work can be identified if you are aware of his signature style. He often makes distortions of the women he’s painting, like enlarging the eyes or shrinking the chin, to give them an otherworldly look. He also gives the women a universalized, glazed appearance, softening features just like in Oriental ceramics.

So his paintings do appear to be like photographs, but they’re also rather surreal. And although the artist chooses his subjects from among his students, the women in his paintings are really quite different from the real-life inspiration.

Realistic Sculptures by Mark Newman (11 PHOTOS)

2015-07-02T10:05:00.003+08:00

Here are some of sculptor Mark Newman’s most awe-inspiring creations. His work seems so realistic, even though his subject matter is very unrealistic. This combination is not only exciting, but a veritable treat as well.

Newman has chosen for his subject creatures from mythologies, comics, stories and even video games. There is a Wolverine amongst his sculptures as well as what could be Kratos from the God of War Play Station games. There is Frankenstein in all his pitiable state as well as what could be Gollum from the Lord of the Rings trilogy. On one hand, there is a King Kong and on the other there is a gymnast.

The beauty of the sculptures is that the skill of the sculptor makes them look extremely life like, even though the sculptures themselves are of creatures that are mostly mythological or fantastical, mainly figments of our collective imagination.
