Splatterhouse is the gloriously gory relaunch of the original 1988 Splatterhouse. One of the best parts of the relaunch is that you have the ability during gameplay to unlock all three originals: Splatterhouse, Splatterhouse 2, and Splatterhouse 3. It’s like getting 4 games for the price of 1!

This new iteration was originally developed by Bottle Rocket until Namco Bandai Games took over in 2009, ironically bringing on many of the old Bottle Rocket staff to finish the game. It was released in North America on November 23, 2010 and in Europe on November 26, 2010. It features the same characters as before. Jennifer Willis, the damsal in distress; Dr. Henry West, the pscychotic monster maker; and Rick Taylor, the equally hideous ‘monster’ who saves the day.

Really the only thing that’s changed are the graphics. Here’s a graphic from 1988:

This screen shot from the X-Box shows Rick’s arm growing back. I love the organs just sitting there in the stomach cavity! Speaking of arms, one of the best fighting styles is to use Ricks severed arm to beat the daylights out of your monster opponents.

That brings me to the platforms the new Splatterhouse is made for. First off there’s the venerable X-Box 360. Additionally there’s also Sony’s PlayStation. Take your pick. Splatterhouse looks great on both. Unlike the blissful, bygone days of 1988, the machines actually handle gamplay well.

The game is lots of fun. Let’s hope Namco continues to remake the franchise.
