Review - Dollhouse S01E00 Unaired Pilot Echo [Major Spoilers]

Now I can understand why Fox did not air the 13th episode Epitaph One, but I don't understand why they didn't air the pilot. Once again Fox shows it's stupidity by wanting to jump right into the middle of all the sex and violence instead of building up something which is exactly what the pilot does.

The episode begins with Echo doing a number of jobs: helping a girl that used to be her, being in love with an old guy, dealing with Mexican gangsters, staying with a girl at the hospital. Interestingly, they are interspersed with the same conservation Adelle had with the man in Epitaph One where she explains that the dollhouse provides needs, not wants.

The next part has previously been shown in a later episode, where Ballard asks Victor about the dollhouse. We then see Sierra coming back with a cut on her forehead. When we see her eating lunch, she sits with Echo and Sierra, a problem that manifests itself in later episodes. Cut to the next scene, and Ballard finds the picture of Caroline on his desk, runs her through the database and comes up empty. I believe the next part is also the same as in a later episode where DeWiit and Mr. Dominic discuss how to deal with the problem.

Victor calls Ballard and tells him to go to an abandoned hotel. Instead of being shot by the Borodins, Echo is already there looking for her little sister.The next scene is kind of weird. Topher walks into Dr. Saunder's lab who is oddly nicknamed "phantom" and talks to her about pro bono jobs which were hospital one and helping the woman breakup with some guy. I don't quite understand who authorized them, but Dr. Saunders makes it seem like a clinical test used to make actives better. Topher tells her that extra work could be harmful.

Ballard takes Echo to his house and talks to her about the dollhouse. Eventually, he pulls his gun on her since the information she gave him seemed force fed. She easily strips him on the gun and shoots him twice in the abdomen. Ballard is still alive so Echo rushes to the hospital to finish the job. She sees the girl she visited in the earlier engagement and stops. Boyd brings her back to the dollhouse, airs his grievances about no being informed on the kill order, Echo climbs into her little pod and whisper the word "Caroline" like in the last episode.

I think this pilot explained a little more than Ghost did and went more into Echo. It seems like almost all of the first season's storylines were condensed into this episode with Ballard meeting Echo, getting shot, Echo, Victor and Sierra fraternizing, and Echo showing inability to follow orders. I don't believe not airing this episode was as egregious as not showing the episode "Serenity" in Firefly first, but I don't think the audience would have any problem with this one.

Review - Dollhouse S01E13 Epitaph One [Major Spoilers]

I really don't know where to start. I just finished watching the episode and I'm still trying to process what I just saw. The episode was confusing, but I think that might have been the intent. If you want something to make your brain spin, you should definitely get the DVD and watch this.

The year is 2019 and we see an armed team making their way across a broken Los Angeles. Along with them are a man and his young daughter. The whole place is totally messed up, i.e., destroyed buildings, fires and what appears to be people running all over the place. The scene goes very fast, so it's kind of hard to figure out what is going on. I'll try to boil down the premise from the entire episode. There are "butchers" in the city and I'm guessing the whole world that are attracted to "tech" and basically go berserk and kill people. There are "actuals" which are people that haven't been "printed." It's a classic doomsday scenario.

The team makes it's way down a shaft to our favorite dollhouse which is completely deserted though still function for the most part. They find the chair and it is different than the one used on the surface whatever that means (it doesn't make people go crazy?). They decide to stick the old guy Mr. Miller into the chair. Thus begins a series of flashbacks in separate intervals. I'm not entirely sure whether they were played in chronological order though I'm pretty sure they were.

The first flashback shows the beginning of the dollhouse with Adelle introducing the concept to a new client. The next shows Topher first arriving at the dollhouse. According to DeWitt, the previous record for imprinting was a whopping 2 hours. Topher says he can do it in 5 minutes. We also see Mr. Dominic already being pissed at the genius.

One of the women, Lynn takes the little girl to the bathroom and sees a shower with hot water. She begins taking a shower but then is bludgeoned by a flashlight. We go back to our gunmen and they continue loading Mr. Miller with memories. This time, we see Echo being imprinted with a Russian girl, and Ballard as her handler. They go into the elevator where Caroline is actually still there, but she can also speak Russian. I thought that was awesome and I really hope the show goes in this direction in later seasons. Echo/Caroline is also having headaches which I'm guessing is a byproduct of the imprinting not fully working.

After the girl alerts the team, the go totally paranoid and sweep the dollhouse. It cuts to another memory and it is of Boyd and Dr. Saunders. Boyd is injured but is attempting to escape the dollhouse. They hug and Saunders says she wishes they had more time. Did shippers every see this one?

The team engrave the girl's name into her back. The engravings are called birthmarks and are used to distinguish actuals with imprints. Dr. Saunders is in the middle of the dollhouse and they see her. After confronting her, she reveals her name to be Whiskey and that she has always been there. She claims to know the way to "safe haven," and points to the cabinet of memories. They ask her where food is and she tells them the kitchen.

The next flashback is the most confusing and after watching it again, I'm still not clear on what happened. We see Victor eating in what I assume is the kitchen. Topher and DeWitt are there and we learn Victor is Mr. Ambrose, the fat guy that owns Rostrum. Apparently he had arrived on a hard drive and the company is now providing "upgrades." They are now providing clients the choice to change bodies, as Adelle puts it, "giving away our actives." She surprisingly is quite opposed to it even though the price is a 9 figure sum.

It was kind of expected the little girl was disturbed, but then see actually shoots one of the guys, and puts the gun in Mr. Miller's hand. Everyone shows up and Whiskey injects a memory into herself to help find safe haven. We see Mr. Dominic in a new body confronting Adelle. I assume at this point, the world has gone to hell, and he is yelling about everything wrong. She reveals that Caroline has the cure.

They shoot Mr. Miller and load up Whiskey again. Now Victor and Sierra both seem to have their original minds. Victor reveals a stash of original imprints in case something happens to them. Whiskey finds the tapes as the final guy teaches the girl how to shoot a gun. She takes the gun and tries to shoot him, but it isn't loaded. He grabs her and shoves her into the chair showing another memory.

Everyone is praying as Adelle looks on. Dr. Saunders requests her, so she can sedate Topher. He is in a little hole surrounded by books ranting about how he could have sent a robocall to a city instructing them to kill anyone else that didn't pick up the call. The conservation is quite long, but I found it the most disturbing flashback. Eventually, DeWitt acts as his surrogate mother as descends into oblivion. At the same time, someone is trying to break in through an oddly, well constructed wall. Caroline and Ballard come through the hole with information to get to a compound which later becomes safe haven.

They finally find the Caroline imprint and put it into the girl. We learn why Whiskey is still there and all messed up. The butchers come through the ceiling and the team tries to escape. They climb up an elevator shaft while Whiskey stays behind releasing a poisonous gas to kill the butchers and herself, saving the rest of them. Everyone continues climbing up out of the dollhouse and the episode ends.

I hope you understand what happened from my synopsis. Large doses of Felicia Day and Amy Acker made the episode really cool. This episode makes me really excited for the rest of the series even though the science behind it seems cheesier than ever. I can understand why Fox never aired it (thought they probably should have). I doubt the casual viewer would get the episode or continue watching it, but for the avid viewer, I think it was great.

Score: 9.5/10

I will also be watching the unaired pilot, so I will have another review up tomorrow morning.

Hi All,

As you may have noticed the site has undergone a bit of a revamp thanks to my good friend Matt who has helped with the new design. We hope that you find the navigation a bit cleaner and that the site should load a bit quicker.

We are also working on the ability for you to select different Themes for how the site looks eg a a Fringe Theme, True Blood Theme, Lost Theme etc. These will be coming shortly. Below is a sneak peek of what the site might look like.

We are also venturing into the world of Show Recaps. Our first recapper "TV Obsessed" will be starting to post recaps of various shows and we hope you enjoy these as well as the spoilers, news and videos we provide.

Ausiello: Unfortunately for Blair, yes, she will. The onetime Queen Bee will have a hard enough time adjusting to college life. Georgina's arrival as her roommate in episode 2 compounds her misery tenfold.

Ausiello: He plays Jeff’s (Joel McHale) good friend and colleague, Professor Duncan. And he just signed on for an additional two episodes, so, yes, I think it's accurate to say it's a recurring role. (BTW, the actual pilot is as funny as the trailer lets on.)

Ausiello: I've got just the thing to get you off my case: Is season 2's fifth episode, we'll meet a young (20s-30s) version of Zedd.

Ausiello: Season 4 will herald the arrival of new loves for both Batista and Laguerta. Very happy about the Batista part of that. His love story with the undercover hooker last season made me throw up in my mouth a little.

Ausiello: Before I answer that, you should know that A) I was a little buzzed when I tweeted that, B) I'm not that bright, and C) aggressive watermarks make me dizzy. With that out of the way, here's my review: I was completely and utterly lost. I may try watching it again this weekend. Or just let one of you explain it to me at Comic-Con.

Dollhouse - SCI-FI Acquires UK Rights to Season 2

Sci Fi has acquired the UK rights to air season 2 of Dollhouse. The channel will also screen the “unaired” 13th episode, “Epitaph One”, in August.

“We’re thrilled to offer our audience not only all 13 episodes of the first season but also confirmation that Sci Fi has the season two premiere already lined up for later in the year,” said Jon Farrar, programming director for NBC Universal Global Networks in the UK.

He added: “Dollhouse has become a cult hit in the UK and is one of the most talked about and successful show launches of 2009.

1) One of the largest requests was to add more shows directly onto the main menu. We've now added a a 3rd row of shows which cover the next most popular shows on the site. Remember you can still access all the shows from the "Select a Show" dropdown menu in the right hand side.

2)We have added a new SpoilerTV Chat room for those that like to chat realtime with others about their favourite shows etc. This can be found in the menu.

3) The At a Glance section has been improved and should load quicker. We've also added several new shows to this page. New shows will be added to this section when they meet a certain threshold in popularity.

4) We will also do our best to try and cover the shows that you've requested although it's not always possible for us to get information on some of these smaller shows, but we will do our very best.

5) I'm pleased to announce that we've just completed the rollout of the new commenting system throughout the site. The new system allows you to comment using a number of mainstream accounts and ID's, PM other users, improved formatting of comments, links, smilies, and photos. You can now leave a comment using any one of the following.

Dollhouse - Comic-Con Panel announced

DOLLHOUSE will have a presence at this year’s COMIC-CON in San Diego as series creator/writer/director and executive producer Joss Whedon and star/producer Eliza Dushku will appear at a special 2-hour DOLLHOUSE session on Friday, July 24 (exact time TBC) where audience members will have the first opportunity to watch an exclusive screening of “Epitaph One” (which will be included on the Dollhouse Season One DVD released) and then open the floor for a Q & A about their thoughts on the series’ freshman year and what they have planned for the upcoming season two.

Interesting interview with Joss Whedon (creator of Dollhouse) where he talks about Dollhouse Season 2 and 'those Buffy movie rumours'

Joss Whedon is two weeks into breaking stories for Dollhouse's second season, and we're happy to report that he sounds like a happy man even without that season 1 budget. Whedon wrapped his top-secret horror film The Cabin in the Woods on May 29 and hit the Dollhouse writers' room on June 1. "I just wanted to die of tiredness," he tells EW.com exclusively. "About two hours after starting to talk to the writers about story, I was back with such a vengeance, and so energized and so pumped because we really understand the show now. We understand what works, and what didn't work so well or what we weren't so thrilled about. We don't have the onus of trying to be a big hit sitting on our shoulders. We can just be ourselves. And so the stories we're breaking are pure, and exciting, and everybody's on-board in the room, and it's never flowed better."

What does that mean for Season 2? "I'm really proud of the second half of season 1, and we're just expanding on that in a huge way: Finding out the different things that Eliza [Dushku] can be, at the same time as extending our mythology," Whedon says. "Really, just every meeting is like, 'What's the most fun we can have with this actor?' about the whole cast. All I can say -- 'cause I'm gonna be Mr. Un-Spoiler -- is that we're having a crazy amount of fun, and usually, that tends to translate onto the screen."

Speaking slightly spoilery, Whedon tells us that season 2 won't pick up right with "We've got to find Alpha!" but a little bit later. Alan Tudyk has a role on ABC's midseason series V, but Whedon hopes he'll be able to use the character sparingly: "Alpha will always be a part of the equation." Whedon's also hoping to work out a similar loan with the producers of ABC's Happy Town, who nabbed Amy Acker, aka Dr. Saunders/Whiskey. For more insider scoops, keep reading after the jump.

More scoop: Whedon says that Echo's last word in the finale, "Caroline," was the beginning of her season 2 quest. "Echo wants to find not just Caroline, but what's going on behind everything. She doesn't have all of the skills. [Laughs] But she does have this weird super power of becoming a different person all the time, so she might start using that more specifically to find out who Caroline was and what happened to her and why this place exists." So she still has all those past imprints in her? "Well, they're supposed to have wiped them out of there. But we'll see how well that went..."

Other burning questions: Summer Glau hasn't signed on for any episodes of Dollhouse yet. "We're still breaking the episodes," Whedon says, "but we didn't honestly go into the season going, 'Now how can we figure out how to service Summer?' when we already have a huge ensemble. I adore Summer and she's phenomenal, but I have to service the cast I have first. If something comes up that's good enough, my God, I'd hound her. But the rumors of her becoming a big part of the show are greatly exaggerated."

And, sorry, but don't hold your breath that Whedon might become involved in the big-screen Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. "I believe [the producers] did ultimately reach out to my agent after the news broke," Whedon says. "I think that's something better left untouched by me. So, I wish them luck." (They'll need it: In a PopWatch poll, only three percent of readers planned on seeing the film if Whedon wasn't attached.)

MICKEY: It's an interesting idea, but a very well-informed source tells me that Aylesworth will not be returning to SVU. Instead, it's looking more likely that the new ADA will break the "young and female" mold — and they're looking at some big names.

Have you heard anything about Fox's Mental? We are enjoying it but have a feeling it won't stick around. — Merrily
MATT: Mental's ratings dipped after the premiere, but the entire 13-episode freshman run should unspool as planned. On the heels of the late David Carradine's appearance in this week's episode, John Pyper-Ferguson (Brothers & Sisters) and Spike Feresten (playing himself) guest on June 23, while Willie Garson (Sex and the City) turns up July 3, when the show moves to Fridays.

Can you tell me where to find the music from True Blood? — Patti
MICKEY: I'm guessing it was the show's brilliant opening credits that seduced you with its Southern Gothic gumbo of sex, religion and Jace Everett's "Bad Things." You can buy the soundtrack on Amazon.com or iTunes, but I'd hold off until you hear Christian pop singer Amanda Jane's version of "Jesus Asked Me Out Today," which appears in the second episode of Season 2. It's heavenly.

When does Californication return? And do we know yet how Rick Springfield fits into the new season? — Jackie
TIM: Season 3 of the David Duchovny series returns sometime late this year, with rock icon Rick Springfield playing a rock icon named Rick Springfield. The (hopefully fictionalized) Rick Springfield of the show is so debauched he makes Hank look like a Jonas brother. We can't actually say what he does in the pages of the script we've seen, but it involves butter, candle wax and... OK, that's as far as we can go.

If the cast of Dollhouse is going to stay intact, does that mean Miracle Laurie will be back, too? Mellie/November is my favorite character. — Katy
MATT: You and I are likethis when it comes to Mellie. Alas, we should both prepare for heartbreak. Though the Dollhouse scribes don't return to their Smith Coronas until next week, an insider tells me that since Paul negotiated Mellie's freedom from the Dollhouse in the Season 1 finale, "It would seem that Miracle's storyline has come to a close."

Do the kids on Glee do their own singing? — Jamie
MICKEY: Hold up there, Jamie. Who says they're "kids"? Fox has invested a lot of time and money into these sophisticated animatronic karaoke machines fitted with shiny hair and the latest mall fashions and they will not have you dismissing them in this manner. Ahem. Series creator Ryan Murphy told me that everyone in the cast had to submit to both acting and singing auditions. That said, to my ear the studio recordings sound "enhanced." For example, I only counted six people singing "Don't Stop Believin'" in the pilot episode, not 36.

I just watched the season finale of Without a Trace, and was curious: Were the photos they showed at the end actual missing persons that have been found due to the show spotlighting real cases? — Sonia
TIM: You're close: They were pictures of all the missing characters from the show's past season. But Without a Trace could easily have featured real people. The FBI says five people, most of them children, have been rescued as a direct result of the show highlighting their cases at the end of episodes. "We found it extremely useful as an avenue to ... have the general public assist in the location of these people," said FBI spokeswoman Michelle Goldschen. And yet still CBS canceled the show. Really, CBS: How many missing children has Cold Case brought home?

I know that Richard Dean Anderson is appearing in an episode of Stargate Universe, but will we see Amanda Tapping, too? Is there going to be a small Jack/Sam moment waiting for us? I also have a question about the Stargate Atlantis TV-movie — will Elizabeth be in it? — Hilla
MATT: Hilla, you're being a bit greedy hoping for SGU to stage such a reunion ... but in this case, you're in luck. As a source tells me, "If it's quality Jack/Sam time you're looking for, you won't be disappointed." However, you may be disappointed by the following. Atlantis boss Joseph Mallozzi tells the Buzz that while the first draft of Stargate: Extinction is done and is now being fine-tuned, "I'm sorry to say the character of Elizabeth will not be making an appearance."

I love Nurse Jackie already. What's coming next? — Kalleigh
MICKEY: I bet you're wondering if Jackie ever gets caught, right? The answer is yes. Also, look for Swoozie Kurtz and Blythe Danner to show up in a future episode — as ladies with direct ties to the All Saints ER.

Dollhouse - Details on Comic Con Exclusive Set

Fox hasn't ironed out all the details on the Dollhouse Comic Con exclusive, but we have some of the details for the upcoming DVD and Blu-ray sets. There will be a total of 5,000 sets available, with half being DVD, and half being Blu-ray. Each set will be numbered, with numbers 1-2,500 being the Blu-ray sets, and 2,501-5,000 being the DVD sets. The sets will include a Comic Con exclusive faceplate, and a lenticular letter from Joss. A lenticular letter? Sounds very interesting.

So, how do you get one of these special limited-edition sets? Your best bet will be to pre-order the set from FoxStore.com when it goes on sale July 6 at 10am Pacific, and will be sold until July 20. There will also be a limited number held back for sale at Comic Con, but we wouldn't recommend waiting if you want a set. You'll be emailed your pre-order code which is needed for pickup somewhere at Comic Con (the "where" at Comic Con hasn't been worked out yet), so if you're not attending Comic Con, but have a friend who is then your friend could pick up your set for you. Not going to Comic Con, or know someone who could pick up the set for you? You won't be able to get the Comic Con exclusive set, but you can still pre-order the DVD, or the Blu-ray set. For information on the contents of the set, check out the official press release we posted last month. If we get a look at the Comic Con exclusive packaging we'll post it here, but in the meantime here are shots of the regular DVD and Blu-ray sets:

Alan Tudyk on Dollhouse and V

Blast recently got the chance to speak with the always charming Alan Tudyk, also known as the beloved Wash from the critically-acclaimed series “Firefly” and as (spoiler!) Alpha from Joss Whedon’s latest series “Dollhouse.”

Tudyk also has a new series due out this fall from ABC called “V.”

Our conversation touched on such various subjects as a possible future for “Firefly” (”I’ve been telling Joss to do a whole TV series on Wash”), his thoughts on a Twitter war with former co-star Nathan Fillion (”I do not want to play that game with Nathan Fillion”), and his love for the new Star Trek film, capped off with a bit of exciting news for “Dollhouse’s” next season.

BLAST: Tell me what it was like working with Joss again on “Dollhouse.”
ALAN TUDYK: It was really great, you know, I didn’t work with him in a directing capacity. He was around doing the extras for the DVD so I definitely ran into him. It was really great.

BLAST: What is it about Joss Whedon that makes these group of actors follow him around?
AT: Um, he has dirt on all of us. Really embarrassing stuff. It’s blackmail, really, I mean I’ll call it what is. That, I guess, and you know in his shows — the two I’ve been on — there’s a way that you can have really high-stakes, dramatic situations taking place right next to very funny, and wry, sarcastic commentary. Which is hard to pull off and nobody does it better than him. So you get the opportunity to do something that’s rare.

BLAST: I caught that sneak mention of “Firefly.” You know there are always rumors of “Serenity 2″ flying around, and Joss does have a history of bringing back characters from the beyond. Would you do another one?
AT: Oh yeah, I’ve been telling Joss to do a whole TV series on Wash. Forget about it, that’s what I want!

BLAST: I don’t think you know what you just did. I think the fans will explode.
AT: Well, I’ve said that to fans before and they go, (unenthusiastically) “Yeah! But actually the great thing about “Firefly” was everyone working together…”, and I say, “Yeah, yeah, yeah, we’ll start with one and go from there!” But yeah, of course I would do it.

BLAST: About Alpha…
AT: Great.

BLAST: What personality of Alpha’s — I think, what, 38 of them? — which was most fun to play?
AT: Well… I think it’s forty — well, I’ve been saying 42 but I think it’s 48. It’s tough to know. (laughs) The only one, you know… It’s interesting doing episodic television, because you can’t peer around the corner. When I was doing the episode of “Briar Rose,” I didn’t know where Alpha was going in “Omega.” I knew that I was taking her… but I didn’t even know what I was taking her to do. (laughs) I didn’t know why I was taking her until the day after we ran “Briar Rose” and I read the script for “Omega.”

BLAST: You kind of had to play it by ear then.
AT: There are a couple of things that happened with the performance. It was like, wow, this guy talks a great deal. He always speaks quickly and he doesn’t ever want to stop talking! There are a lot of lines to learn. But also, I knew that he had 48 people in him, but I didn’t realize that it was just a riot of people, of difficult, zany folks. If I had to do it over again I would have brought more personalities out in the first one. (hesitates) Eh, I don’t want to say I have regrets, but I — I don’t know who all the personalities are. And there’s Kepler, you know whoever that is, whatever personality he’s using there. But that was kind of, you know, Alpha was doing a little acting, also.

BLAST: The acting part was one of the things fans have kind of been wondering about. To what extent was Alpha in fact Kepler, or was he acting the whole time?
AT: I think with Alpha, if I, personally, was able to know intimately 48 perspectives, and backgrounds, and upbringings — perspectives, I got it right the first time — 48 different perspectives, If I had the benefit of that, myself, I would be an amazing actor. That’s what acting is, you’re putting yourself in somebody else’s shoes and really trying to get as close to them as possible. So Alpha has the capacity to be the greatest actor. I feel like his Kepler was an amalgam of who he is, he can borrow a great deal from himself. And you know, we get to see Eliza Dushku’s character put on all these different roles. So you have to think about all these different pieces of her that she could borrow from. And there are a lot of differences between them.

BLAST: You mentioned one thing I was going to ask you about. If you could have one skill or ability downloaded into your head, what would it be?
AT: Uh… Inner peace.

BLAST: Is that a skill?
AT: It’s not a skill… but you know, you get these perspectives so you could download anything, like enlightment. Some kind of thought process, not so much a religion. Like the Dalai Lama! I could download a piece of the Dalai Lama and just chill. (laughs)

BLAST: Are there other characters in the “Jossverse” besides Wash and Alpha that you would like to play?
AT: Buffy. I would love to play Buffy. I’ve always felt that Sarah Michelle Gellar did a great job, but there was stuff she missed. (laughs)

BLAST: Hey, you know they are supposedly doing a Buffy movie without any of the actual Buffy characters. So will you throw your hat in the ring?
AT: (laughs) If I can find time outside of my new TV show “Wash,” sure.

BLAST: Well you do have a new TV show, “V.” Can you tell me about it?
AT: Sure. It’s kind of an “Independence Day” scenario. You know it’s based on the original miniseries that came out in the 80s. And, it’s aliens, and it’s about this alien race…

BLAST: Are you an alien?
AT: I am not at liberty to say.

BLAST: Oooh. Really?
AT: Yeah, I can’t say one way or the other. It’s just about an alien race coming in, and the reaction to having another race of people with alien technology and all that would mean if we actually had spaceships parked over our cities and what that would mean.

BLAST: Is it the sci-fi of it that drew you to it?
AT: No, it was the script. There was one part in the script, right in the beginning when the Vs first show up and this F-16 falls out of the sky over the streets of New York City and explodes, and it’s like, oh man, what’s going on? This is great!

BLAST: I asked some Twitter people if they had any questions for you and one question was: why did you leave Juilliard before graduating?
AT: (laughs) Wow, how to do I answer that?

BLAST: From aliens to Juilliard, right?
AT: Yeah, right. Well, (laughs) I was following in a long line of actors who left Juilliard in their third year. Val Kilmer, Robin Williams… Juilliard’s fourth year at that time and I think it’s still the case, was where you study for three years. You do plays, but it’s in conjunction with classes. And then your fourth year becomes solely a performance year. There’s a couple of classes that are like, “How to Audition!” and “How to Get an Agent!” And I had worked really hard to get an agent before I left Juilliard, I had an agent before my third year. So I didn’t feel those classes were necessary and I didn’t need a year full of, you know, “18th century Spanish plays that have never before been translated until now!” That’s awful. That sounds awful! I like the people at Juilliard.

BLAST: What fictional character would you most like to play? Have you ever thought about it?
AT: Wow. Gosh. You know, I don’t know.

BLAST: Maybe another round as Steve the Pirate?
AT: (laughs) Sure.

BLAST: So we’ve got Alan the Vampire Slayer, we have Wash the TV show, and a Steve the Pirate movie. I hope you know I’ll be holding you to your word.
AT: (laughs) You know I don’t know that a Steve the Pirate movie would be very interesting without the rest of the cast. He doesn’t say very much… His humor is best in small doses of “Garr!” and “Arrgh!” in the right moment. I would only want to undertake that with Justin Long, and Christine Taylor, Vince Vaughn, Joel, Ben Stiller. We’d need the whole group.

BLAST: (laughs) Fair enough. What is on your iPod?
AT: What’s on my iPod? I’ve got a lot on my iPod. I can tell you what I’m listening to right now… My current favorite song is by a band called Band of Skulls, it’s called “I Know What I Am.” Great song. And I’ve got a little throwback to when I was in high school, Anthrax’s “I’m the Man,” hysterical song. A hard band but the song is really funny. And the Black Keys’ new album is fantastic. There’s a song on it called “I Got Mine,” which is kind of that bluesy, ballsy music. The whole album is great. I could go on, and on, and on…

BLAST: You are a regular at fan conventions, so I was wondering: are you a sci-fi fan yourself and will you be at this year’s San Diego Comic Con?
AT: I don’t know about San Diego. Am I sci-fi fan, that was the other question? I liked “Star Trek: The Next Generation” when I was growing up, a lot, and the original “Star Trek” when I was a kid, watching re-runs. But “The Next Generation” is the first show that really grabbed me. I loved the characters, I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Then I kind of took a break, well you know, “Star Wars” and all that stuff is great. But I wasn’t the biggest sci-fi fan until “Firefly “sort of brought me back in. Yeah, I am a sci-fi fan. The new “Star Trek” movie, best movie I’ve seen… you know, a lot of people say it’s the best movie they’ve seen since “Iron Man,” but I think it’s better than “Iron Man.”

BLAST: “Star Trek” was really good. It was a movie that had so much weighing on it, and managed to appeal both to the masses and the fans. Great movie.
AT: Yeah. I’ve seen it twice.

BLAST: Me too!
AT: Yeah. It was done, and I was like, let’s roll it again! I’m ready to see it again. Let’s go. Like, now. So entertaining, so entertaining. You know, they have something in the “Star Trek” franchise… I definitely haven’t seen all of it, but they have something in this one that I’ve only seen in “Firefly” before. You’ve got your hero, your Captain Kirk, getting his ass kicked. That first scene when you’re meeting him as an adult, he gets his butt whipped in a bar, and it’s hysterical. Very Malcolm Reynolds-y. And then also, when he lands in the ice planet before he meets Spock, and he’s complaining and trying to cite the rules that have been broken, and he’s looking off in the distance, and the the giant behemoth is coming at him. He’s running from it, screaming like a girl, (high voice) “No-o! No-o!” The hero can be very uncool, the hero can be afraid, the hero can be chicken. That was really refreshing. He can make mistakes and be goofy. That whole scene with him and the doc, and the shots. It’s just fun.

BLAST: There’s a certain fearlessness with the way Joss treats his characters and I think with the way they handled the characters in “Star Trek.” I think you’re quite right about that.
AT: Yeah. Absolutely, definitely.

BLAST: I have maybe one or two questions more, so my next one is: are you on Twitter?
AT: No, I’m not! You know…

BLAST: Are you going to get on that?
AT: Yeah, you know I was hoping it would be gone by now. Is that going to go away any time soon? (laughs)

BLAST: You know supposedly, the top 10 percent of Twitter users account for 90 percent of the Twitter traffic. So I guess most people’s lives really are that boring.
AT: Yeah, I took that stance that I’ve heard… if I’m writing somebody that I’m standing in the park enjoying the smell of flowers, I’m lying because in fact I’m standing in the park twittering, being distracted from the flowers that I was smelling previously. I just need to live my life, not need to open that window all the time to let everybody know what’s going on. But as a social networking tool, you need to be connected to your friends. We all lead such busy lives that it’s hard to touch base with so many people. So if you can keep in touch just by a word here or a word there…

BLAST: I guess that’s fair.
AT: (laughs) I’m telling you why I’m not on it, and I’m also explaining why I’m going to be on it. When I end up on it, that’s my reasoning.

BLAST: (laughs) Everyone succumbs, right? Well, you know Nathan Fillion is on it so maybe you should get into a Twitter war with him or something.
AT: What the hell is a Twitter war?

BLAST: I guess it’s where you see who can get the most followers the quickest.
AT: I do not want to play that game with Nathan Fillion. (laughs) He’s a much more social animal than I am. I concede the fight before it begins!

BLAST: You might be surprised! Oh, I think our time is up, so thank you for your time.
AT: Brilliant. Thank you. Hey, thanks for that top nine reasons why Dollhouse is back on the air, I appreciate it.

BLAST: Oh, thank you for reading it! I’m as thrilled as anybody.
AT: (laughs) Cool. Well, I look forward to next season and I hope you like it. I think it’ll be fun.

BLAST: Oh — will we see you next season?
AT: (pause) Yes you will.

BLAST: That is the best answer. Thank you so much.
AT: All right, take care.
