Review: Now that I am in my 30's, I need a little help with keeping my skin looking youthful. For years I have heard positive feedback on Dr Lewinn’s products and their anti-ageing benefits and thanks to Spoilt I’ve finally been given the opportunity to test it for myself. Dr Lewinn’s Day Cream Moisturiser is an emollient formulation consisting of Vitamins A, B and E, apricot oil, retinyl palmitate, collagen and elastin and mild sunscreen filters. These ingredients supplement the skin’s own natural resources, assisting the vulnerable areas where lines and wrinkles begin, helping to moisturise, nourish, rejuvenate and protect skin. The formula is a rich and luxurious cream that absorbs into my skin with ease. The scent is beautiful too - not overwhelming, but could perhaps a little too fragranced for some. This moisturiser is most suited to mature and sun damaged skin and having skin on the drier side, it has proved to be really beneficial over the past 4 weeks of use. I love the fact that Day Cream Moisturiser has sunscreen added to protect my face from the harsh sun, however I question how much is in the formula. I find the cream feels light on my skin, it spreads nicely skin and blends in well. Felt very light on my skin. A little cream goes a really long way and the larger sized jar is huge and double the size of a standard face cream which is 50g. Therefore Day Cream Moisturiser lasts and lasts - so don’t be too concerned about the price. At the end of the day, I’m happy to spend a little extra knowing what I’m using is actually working on my skin. After using Day Cream Moisturiser daily for the past four weeks, I can see what all the fuss is about. My skin is feeling soft, plump and smooth. As for my wrinkles I am excited to see a real reduction in the fine lines which are forming around my cheeks, forehead, and near the eyes and I’m hoping that with continuous use of Dr Lewinn’s Day Cream Moisturiser no more will appear in future. I will continue to use Dr Lewinn’s Day Cream Moisturiser in future and look forward to using other Dr Lewinn's products as my current skincare runs out.

PRODUCT REVIEW: Mario Badescu Silver Powder

Review: A few years back I worked for KIT Cosmetics and it was whilst working there that I discovered Mario Badescu and its star skincare product, Silver Powder. While the name is bares no real relevance to the product and what it does (the powder is more of a grey/white colour), I was gob smacked to discover that Silver Powder focuses solely on reducing and extracting blackheads from the skin's surface. The reason for my shock (and excitement) is because my skin is plagued full of many, many open pores and blackheads. Many are so tiny that the average person does not believe me when I explain just how many I have... but they are there... and to me they are obvious. Silver Powder comes in a powder form which is mixed with a few drops of water to create a paste that goes over the targeted areas. After a couple of practices the product is rather easy to use and starts to really work wonders in one to two applications which is why the product has me so excited. The scent does not really smell like anything in particular. It is light and not overbearing which is a relief when you know it will be on the skin for around 10 minutes at a time. Designed for all skin types, I would personally only recommend it to those who experience a lot of blackheads because this is the purpose of the product. Silver Powder contains Calcium Carbonate, Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide. It has been a while since I last used Silver Powder but writing this review has reminded me just how much I need it and now I think I need to get back on the horse and invest in another jar. The only thing I don't like is how Silver Powder is exclusive to KIT Cosmetics and is therefore not an easily accessible product.

Tip: Dip a dampened cotton ball in to the powder and press on to the congested areas of the face once or twice a week. Let the product works its magic and wipe off with a clean cotton ball containing toner or warm water.

About: physical facial exfoliant with a gritty texture. Packaged in a white plastic jar with twist lid.

Review: Not only does the name sound delicious, it smells delectable too. Almond & Honey Face Scrub claims to be a non-abrasive face scrub however I disagree because the formula is a little rough and I would not recommend it for sensitive skin, or skin which breaks out excessively because it could strip the skin and cause upset like it did to mine. After using the formula dry my skin was left looking red and feeling a little raw as well. Add water to soften the formula however and Almond & Honey Face Scrub becomes a lovely exfoliant that removes dead skin and helps skin feel softer and smoother. The formula contains Almond Oil, Kaolin, Honey, Corn Meal and Algae Extract but also contains ingredients such as Talc and parabens. Whilst Almond & Honey Face Scrub is well priced, I probably will not purchase in future because I know of many alternatives which work better with my skin, and also because Mario Badescu is sold in Australia exclusively at KIT Cosmetics, making it really hard to get to.

MBFWA: Fernando Frisoni S/S 2012/13 Hair & Beauty

Day Five: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia - Fernando Frisoni S/S 2012/13
Collection: Masquerade-inspired.

Fernando Frisoni was the final designer to showcase at fashion week and therefore in true designer style, his collection debuted as an Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week closing party with a masquerade theme. Frisoni was only too happy to explain the concept, "For my new collection I have explored the dark side of the Brazilian jungle. The clothes are sexy, powerful and fierce with sports-luxe edges. The look is quite androgynous and minimalist, with a mixture of busy prints and natural colours." For some reason or another we were unable to request images for the Fernando Frisoni show but luckily we had contacts backstage and bring to you the hair and makeup look from the collection's debut. Jayne Wild, Creative Director for ghd, explained Frisoni's insight in to the collection, "Fernando Frisoni’s Spring Summer ‘12 Collection takes inspiration from the individual style of eight of Fernando’s close girlfriends. A preview of the collection will be showcased by two male models and two female models as well his eight ‘bridesmaids’."

Hair: by ghd, fronted by Jayne Wilde.
The masquerade-inspired look was fierce, unique and intensely beautiful. Wild told media,"each model will be wearing an individual hair mask that was made using real hair. We’ve taken inspiration from Phillip Tracy’s amazing designs for Isabella Blow and created these beautiful animalistic headpieces to ensure our models stand out from the crowd."

Makeup: by Napoleon Perdis.
The inspiration: High-flying socialites living it up behind the velvet rope, as though they’ve been styled by French Vogue. Memo: Sophisticated yet fabulously undone. To create this look Napoleon shared a few top tips: "This look is all about having confidence in your individual style. I recommend tailoring the eye makeup to your own features rather than copy catting it exactly from the runway. It’s a little rock ‘n’ roll, a lot ‘morning after the night before’, so instead of a clean flick the lines are smudged and sexy. Use 7r Smudging & Sculpting Brush to get the same effect."

A few months ago favourite Aussie fashion label Alice McCall got together with a creative team to shoot a sneak peek preview for their Summer 2013, Sphinxes Without Secrets' ... and doesn't it look hot! Chic Management model Kaila Hart looks stunning sporting bright coloured hair extensions to tie in with with crazy bright backdrop and vibrant new designs. Hair was designed by Lauren McCowan and Cloud Nine and makeup was designed by Jovita Lee. Can't wait to see the rest of the collection - we just wish the model was a little curvier.

Day One: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia - Gary Bigeni S/S 2012/13
Collection: Fractured Appearance

Last year designer Gary Bigeni told media that he was hoping to alter his style and steer clear jersey and begin to venture into colour, prints and leather which he nailed. Inspired by the colour blocking craze which has circled the world over, Bigeni used a blend of summery shades, his palette consisting of turquoise, beige, tangerine, cobalt and black along with a few prints. Pieces were tailored and easy to wear,silk dresses and play suits made the collection what it was and leather panels were added to styles to give the look a little drama.

Hair: by KMS, fronted by Anthony Nader.

The look was about achieving perfectly slick, straight locks tied back in a firm ponytail with no flowing pieces. For the KMS team, it was never about detracting from the collection, but rather enhancing the look without going overboard.

Makeup: by Napoleon Perdis.

Inspiration behind the makeup look was simple: Gary Bigeni defines the successful, confident women who know what they want. The lips might be smouldering, but this look is about strength, not seduction. Mr Perdis is a big fan of the red lip, telling media, "this is the sort of red-hot beauty statement that I love. The lip statement is so strong and empowering yet it’s kept modern and fresh with simple skin and next-to-no other definition."

Day Three: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia - Ellery S/S 2012/13

Collection: Delicatessen

Kym Ellery stayed true to her design aesthetic featuring stunning fitted styles, draped pieces, high necklines and sharp high shoulders. Ellery's key colours for the collection include red, green, fuschia, metallic silver, black and white. The cutest headpieces with cats ears completed the look and added a really playful finish to the structured pieces. Lara Bingle and Jodi Gordon were spotted sitting front row at the show.

Makeup: by Napoleon Perdis.

Inspiration behind this soft, glowing look referenced the rich memories of treasured childhood possessions: luxe and beautiful. Napoleon Perdis shared his vision on the look for Ellery, "The Ellery girls are the epitome of cool – in a very effortless way. I used individual lashes on the outer corners of the eye to add a cute little kick, the way Japanese girls like to wear them. Camera Finish Powder was lightly dusted over the skin to set the makeup and give it a lovely velvety-radiant finish, like she’s beaming from within”.

Hair: by KMS, fronted by Clive Allwright.

The twisted, refined knot bun was sloft and beautifully polished. The look was accessorised with 'cat ear' headbands.

Skin: prepped by St Tropez.

Skin was given that gorgeous glow from top to toe using St Tropez's new Wash Off Instant Glow collection to ensure models were catwalk-worthy.

Review: Hmmm...I tend to think that Nail White Pencil is a 'fad' item. I bought this on the spur of the moment a few years ago and quickly grew bored with it. Nail White Pencil is designed to whiten the inside of your nails and make yellowing nails appear cleaner, brighter, and therefore much healthier. It did not work on my nails which are relatively white but at the time I still felt they could do with a cleaner look. Therefore Nail White Pencil is good for smokers and people who wear fake tan, etc. In the meantime, I will not purchase Nail White Pencil in future because my nails don't seem to need it and the product did not entirely impress me.

Review: First I would like to express my disappointment that GlamNails Nail Polish has been discontinued because it is one of the best nail polishes I have ever tried... WOW, this stayed on for days! I booked a mani at the Sydney Fashion Weekend GlamNails stall a few years back just when the product had launched. I decided to be bold and try a dark black-red for a change which was a big thing for me as I had not tried a colour so dark and am not a fan of red but I fell in love fast! With top coat worn over it GlamNails Nail Polish lasted for around four days before it started to chip (NOTE: no polish has EVER last this long on me) and therefore it stole my heart. I touched up the ends a few days later and the polish went on for another day or two which was fantastic too. The consistency is just right: not too thick and not too thin. Overall my nails feel smooth and appear chip-free. If I ever find GlamNails Nail Polish on a shelf again in future I will definitely purchase this again...and you should too!

Review: I can't find any faults with A'kin Ginko & Chamomile Eye Night Creme. I love eye creams specifically for evening - if we use a day and night cream, then why not use an eye cream specifically for evening use. The reason it is for evening use is because it is full of anti-aging properties like Omega 3, 6 & 9, and Alpha Lipoic Acid which help to fight the nasties away and keep the delicate skin smooth while skin is repairing itself. While it can't reverse already apparant signs of aging, the rich, creamy formula prevents wrinkles and keeps skin feeling uber soft and firm. Ginko & Chamomile Eye Night Cream is boxed in lovely packaging and is both paraben and sulfate free. While it is fragrance free (meaning no fragrance has been added) I noticed that when using larger quantities, the product does have a slight scent that is gentle and seems to come directly from the ingredients within. At $39.95 it is money well spent.

Review: A’kin 24-Hour Pure Moisture Unscented is a lovely cream which is super light and very gentle which makes it perfect for sensitive or hot-to-touch skin like mine. As it is unscented, you will not be whisked away to a place of paradise but 24-Hour Pure Moisture is a lovely hydrating moisturiser which is not too rich and therefore perfect for summer, plus it is so well priced it should not be dismissed. Containing a bunch of natural ingredients such as Vitamin B5, Omega 3 & 6 essential fatty acids and Vitamin E to help soothe, moisturise and help repair skin. My skin feels soothed, hydrated, and fresh again.

Review: Every woman must own at least one bottle of Manicare's Gentle Nail Hardener because it simply works wonders! I have been using this wonderful formula on and off for almost ten years and my feelings toward the product is still the same: I have nothing but love for Gentle Nail Hardener... it is an essential nail care product! I own two bottles (one for immediate use and one for backup of course) because it keeps nails from going soft, cracking, splitting or bending back. My nails are so much healthier when I use Gentle Nail Hardener and I couldn't be happier. This product can be used twice daily but I just use it every day or two over a clean nail and it works a treat.

Tip: Avoid applying Gentle Nail Hardener over nail polish for two reasons: it will not work directly on the nail and it will turn your nail polish hazy.

Review: My hand and nails are naturally quite dry in nature so I am picky with my nail polish removers. Luckily Nail Polish Remover - Extra Gentle is a gentle product that does not dry out nails. It is enriched with Vitamin E and Panthenol to hydrate and soften nails and cuticles but is not all that hydrating for soft or brittle nails - just a better alternative to others on the market. The liquid formula lasts the standard length of time when used with a cotton pad to remove away old nail enamel. Nail Polish Remover - Extra Gentle is a well priced polish remover and is available from pharmacies so you can be sure to find it with ease.

Review: I like the invigorating sensation Manicare Cellulite Bristle Brush offers when brushed along the thighs and buttocks but I keep forgetting to use it. Admittedly using this every two to three days has not done all too much for my skin but has kept it feeling soft. I wanted to feel an invigorating and slightly rough sensation so that I knew the brush was working but the bristles were too soft. I came up with an idea to use the paddle brush in the shower over my legs to see if it worked more efficiently - but once wet the bristles started to fold over and soften furthermore. I did not like the massage side of the brush and I was really unsure of its purpose. The feel of it running along my lumpy thighs does not feel pleasant so I stopped using the brush altogether. I am a big Manicare fan but their Cellulite Bristle Brush was a real let down and would not purchase another in future.

Review: As the name suggests, Almost Bronzer is a facial bronzer which is so subtle that it looks natural. The powder compact consists of two very natural tawny coloured bronzing powders which, when blended together, creates a warm glow that very, very subtly hits at being a bronzer without screaming oompah loompah! The only reason it did not receive the full five star rating is because the gorgeous natural toned powder is just that tad bit too subtle which means that I spend a little more time trying to build up the colour and ensure even coverage when applying it but apart from that I honestly can't flaw it. This lovely little number also contains SPF15 to protect your skin which I think is both wonderful and humorous (because if you didn't apply sunscreen underneath, you could end up with a burned face and perfectly tanned cheekbones, ha ha). Almost Bronzer is packaged in a lovely slimline compact which looks like a a little treasure box because it is so cute and the brown tone is really summery, warming and appealing. Press gently on the gold embossed Clinique clasp and you will discover the dual tone bronzer and mirror (although I do recommend applying this in front of a large mirror with good light around you. Lift up the secret compartment underneath the bronzer to discover a gorgeous and very nifty bronzing brush which is shaped flat to contour your cheek bones. There are two shades to choose from Light/Medium and Medium/Dark so be sure to take in to account your natural skintone before purchasing. I have fair skin and chose the Light/Medium but as I am comfortable with using bronzers and can see that the formula is very natural in appearance when it is applied to the skin, I will be trying the Medium/Dark shade next time and yes - I will purchase Almost Bronzer in future!

Review: Organic Moisturising Fluid Foundation has so many perks: it is eco-certified, organic-certified and Australian made. It contains heavenly natural ingredients such as Vitamins A, C and E as well as Chamomile and Safflower Oil. With so many wonderful qualities to offer, I was feeling pumped to this foundation a try. It pains me to say this but Organic Moisturising Fluid Foundation disappointed me from the first application because although the all natural formula is packed with hydrating properties, it somehow drags along the skin and feels mask-like. Being hard to blend, I persisted and tried blending with different tools such as fingers, brushes and sponges but this did not change the application result. I decided to thin out the formula by mixing it with a moisturiser but unfortunately the formula still felt thick and the consistency was only thinned to offer less coverage. Designed for all skin types, Organic Moisturising Fluid Foundation is ideal for all skin types, especially sensitive skin because the ingredients are all natural, oil-free and fragrance free. Its natural scent is light and really appealing. Packaged in such a beautiful plastic pump tube and available in a wonderful, wearable range of 6 shades, I would love to see this formula worked on to become more appealing because Organic Moisturising Fluid Foundation really does have amazing potential and I would have loved to give it an extra star.

Review: A smoothing primer designed to magically erase the appearance of lines, pores and imperfections, Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch also helps to bond makeup to your skin. The smooth silicone consistency is not a formula that I personally enjoy the feel of (I personally prefer liquid primers), but Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch really does erase the appearance of large open pores. A little goes a long way as the formula spreads over the skin with ease. While the rich velvety texture is oil-free, I would not recommend Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch for an excessively oily skin, as my skin is a little oily and still had a shine factor after a few hours. While I would like to say that the primer made my makeup last longer, I would have to say that my makeup probably could have lasted as long without it and I really wish it offered a mattifying effect as well, hence its 3-star rating.

Day Four: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia - Christopher Esber S/S 12/13

For those of you who are not familiar with Christopher Esber (don't worry - we weren't), this talented designer's speciality is fitted and tailored pieces. Esber is just 23 years old but his experience and knowledge is something quite amazing, recently winning a designer of the year award. Critics are raving about Christopher Esber's S/S collection and since Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia his status has been raised once again. The inspiration for Esber's collection started with the competitive sport fencing and the private clubs which competitors practised in. He was also inspired by how women prepare themselves (such as hair, makeup and deciding what to wear). Cobalt blue was THE colour of the collection and it looked fabulous on models regardless of their skin tone - you need to integrate this colour in to your wardrobe. Regardless of Esber's It colour, his beautiful collection contained lots of pastels... nails were a mix of pastels and brights, and model's makeup was muted with pastel tones.

Hair: by Wella, fronted by Renya Xydis.
Renya Xydis created a tailored, androgynous look, slicking back the model’s hair and sectioning it down into a 10 – 12 strand basket-weave braid that was tucked up underneath to create a bun.

Makeup: by Napoleon Perdis.
The creative team at Napoleon Perdis described the look as 'the beautiful assassin': women who dress in designs with strong, tailored lines. Mr Perdis was only too happy to describe the look to media, telling us that the team “wanted the girls to look worn-in and slightly out of focus but in a fresh way. Skin is luminous and sheer with a soft natural flush to the cheek. The colour palette is skin-spired – I used shades of taupes, soft pinks, and creams to accentuate the tones that occur within the skin already. The eye is finished with a mirrored effect courtesy of my Lip Lacquer.”

Nails: by essie.
The strong lines and revised minimalism of the collection were contrasted with classic softness of essie’s most iconic shade, Ballet Slippers. Mirroring the fresh and natural feel of the show hair and make-up, the nude toned manicure and pedicure completed the sport-chic look. The polished perfection continued across to the male models, hands were refreshed with essie’s Naturally Clean range and ‘man-icure’s’ took on new meaning as nails were perfectly shaped and buffed.
