If you want to see many of Florida's 2010 roster additions making plays in The Swamp, then hit up the Gators' Friday Night Lights recruiting extravaganza next Friday night. I've gotten word from someone close to the event that, as expected, all the oral commitments are expected to attend the event. That would include Palm Beach Gardens athletee Matt Elam, one of the best players in the country. The commitment this week of Delray Beach Atlantic's James Louis gives Florida 16 commitments for the 2010 class.

Check out the list of Gators' commitments and others on our Watch List. This is a list we can add to as we go. Most of these players are expected to attend Friday Night Lights, Florida's chance to show what they are about to hundreds of recruits at once.

Add this latest zinger to Urban Meyer's growing list since December. Most of what Urban Meyer says is going to be in the headlines anyway because of his status in college football, but he also knows how to make a few waves.

It started with calling Notre Dame his "dream job" in December, followed by an April challenge to Gators fans who are against the program to sit in seat 37F (possibly a dig at former Gators quarterback and radio host Shane Matthews, who was critical of Urban's offense after the Ole Miss game). Since then, he has twice denounced the Notre Dame job that many predict he will one day take and, as of this week, expressed how he doesn't think Utah, his former school, "can survive the grind of the SEC," as colleague Andrea Adelson points out this morning.

I don't mind the honesty here. He's probably right. Last year's Utah team would have been a good SEC team, but a 5-3 SEC team -- probably not enough for a BCS bowl. But perhaps that's not the point. I wonder if Urban thought after the fact about how his words could have hurt the BCS stock of a program he appears to care deeply about.

The Mountain West's playoff push could use Urban's affirmation, but Urban and the rest of the SEC coaches know they've got too sweet of a deal to want anything else than the current system.

Lane Kiffin must have voted for Jevan Snead just to mess with the Gators. How does Tim Tebow not get a unanimous selection among the coaches' vote? The three unanimous selections -- LSU offensive linemen Ciron Black, Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones and Tennessee safety Eric Berry -- are great players, but you can't justify another SEC quarterback as better than Tebow. Steve Spurrier voted for Tebow in the Heisman, so surely he didn't opt for another this time around. Dan Mullen did recruit Snead while at Florida, but he worked with Tebow too long to shun him.

Other Gators surprise: Not sure if OL Carl Johnson is second-team All-SEC caliber. He's a good player who will likely serve as a starting guard for the Gators, but he hasn't even started a full season.

TE Aaron Hernandez as a third teamer? I think he's the best in the league.

DE Jermaine Cunningham deserved at least a third-team selection. He was Florida's most consistent lineman last year.

Check out the All-SEC first team below, or find all 16 Gators in this comprehensive All-SEC list.

Doe will be represented in his pre-trial hearing by Huntley Johnson, who wasn't immediately available for comment today.

Technically this case can be classified as an arrest, though Doe wasn't booked into jail. It's a criminal case with a notice to appear in trial. Under that stipulation, Doe is the fifth Gator arrested in 2009. The well-circulated number of arrests under Urban Meyer would increase to 25.

In April 2007, Doe was arrested for misdemeanor affray and arresting arrest for his role in a fight. The charges were dropped and Doe wasn't suspended by the team.

Doe is an integral piece to Florida's linebacker rotation, showing a knack for big plays in big games. Despite finishing with 30 tackles last season while fighting through a groin injury, Doe intercepted a pass and tipped another against Georgia and recorded a half sack in the national title game against Oklahoma.

NCAA rules currently prevent Gators coaches from working out with players, but all signs point to Gillislee becoming UF's next quality back based on offseason workouts with the strength staff and random observations.

Carter said Gillislee's doing "really, reall well" with solid instincts for the game.

"We're pleased with him," Carter said. "Athletically he's similar to Jeff (Demps) and Chris (Rainey), which is pretty good. We felt good about him earler, that's why we offered him last summer. He committed early."

There's no guarantee of playing time for Gillislee behind a crowded backfiled of Demps, Rainey and USC transfer Emmanuel Moody, but Gillislee is ahead of the curve because of his build and speed. He's a 200-pounder who runs a 4.4. Demps and Rainey came to campus below 180.

"Body wise, he's exactly where want him to be," Carter said. “We’ll see how that transitions to the field.”

Here are a couple of tidbits about your Gators backfield.

*The next couple of months could define Emmanuel Moody's career. Forget the talent. It's always been there. Whether he breaks out or stays stagnate will hinge on his ability to play through small injuries, Carter said. Ankle problems stunted his growth in 2008.

“He always has things here and there -- he’s just built that way," Carter said. "We have to see
if he plays with his little nicks that he gets. He’s got to play with a strain here or bump there. If he can mentally handle that, then he can take the next step."

*Jeff has worked individually this summer on transitioning into the 'Percy' position of receiving and taking handoffs, and his progress has gone smoothly. "Jeff does exactly what we ask him to do," Carter said. "We never have to worry about it. He has an extremely high IQ and he loves to compete."

*This will be the first year Chris Rainey can maintain weight above 180 pounds. "He's just not an eater," Carter said. "But he's finally getting his body in better shape."

Tebow and 2009 recruit Andre Debose are in LA for tonight's ESPY's ceremony, to be aired Sunday night. Tebow's up for Best Moment for his post-Ole Miss speech and Best Male College Athlete. Debose is up for the Under Armour All-American Moment with former Under Armour All-American teammate Russell Shepard. They connected on a 92-yard touchdown.

The four-star recruit with a 4.4 40-yard dash would would be Florida's third wide receiver in the 16-player commitment list -- one more than last year's signing class of 15.

And the Gators still have seven months to go before signing day. Athlete Travon Van might also play wide receiver and, thus, making four alongside Solomon Patton and Stephen Alli.

The University of Florida even gets a major sponsor for a couple of hours of autograph signing. Pretty soon it's going to be "Tim Tebow drives to church," brought to you by Russell Athletic.

THe Gators will host the Verizon Wireless Football Fan Day on Sunday, Aug. 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the O'Connell Center, as announced by UF today. Admission is FREE -- good for you -- but you can't bring in your own memorabilia -- bad for you.

Compliance says no. UF will provide the posters to be signed.

"Unfortunately, when players have signed various autograph items such as helmets and footballs, they have on occasion been sold to the general public," senior associate athletics director for compliance Jamie McCloskey said. "This practice could put the eligibility of some of our student-athletes into question. We want to be proactive in this area and are asking our fans to cooperate with our policy of requesting an autograph on our team poster only. The poster should be for personal use only and not intended for sale."

The lines will be monitored to ensure fans are not waiting for autographs with no chance of reaching the signing table, a good move by UF. The entire team and coaching staff will be there.

I'm hearing Florida is one of the last major programs yet to release a start date for fall camp. That should come soon. My guess is Aug. 5, a Wednesday, but that could be terribly off considering the Gators have a bye on the first weekend.

Only four teams have accomplished that feat from the SEC in the past 30 years -- 1979 Alabama, 1980 Georgia, 1992 Alabama, 1998 Tennessee -- so it's only realistic to expect at least one loss en route to the national championship.
