Florida fans have been obsessed with 'pretty wins' ever since Steve Spurrier started lighting up feeble SEC teams almost 20 years ago. And so every week short of a 40-point performance, Gator Nation is fired up about playcalling, offensive predictability, the quarterback, the offensive line and the wide receivers. That's just the reality. The bar has been set that high.

The ammunition after the 27-3 win over Vandy...

*Tim Tebow has been sacked a career-high 21 times, third-most in the SEC. "Tim Tebow, he's taking too many hits this year," said former Gators great Percy Harvin, now with the Minnesota Vikings who attended Saturday's game. "I don't like seeing that at all."

*Once again, numerous Gators receivers were left wiiiiiiide open, including WR Deonte Thompson in the second half standing in the end zone with no defenders in sight.

*Conservative playcalling...which brings us to an interesting point. Is Florida keeping it so tight because they know the D is so good and thus, the Gators are playing not to lose? That's both a good clock-management decision and a dangerous place to be.

*And we talk about big plays, but Florida probably assumed the Demps/Rainey/Moody combo would start breaking off major gains. Not happening in SEC play. Demps' 25-yard score on Saturday was his longest in seven SEC games.

Anyway, no one's taking away from Florida's success, but many of these offensive topics have been asked about in recent weeks. And with good reason. The offense has been a hot topic since early the Tennessee game in September when Monte Kiffin flustered Florida with the Cover 2.

And it seems the Gators are starting to get a little testy. Maybe teams just get a little grouchy in November when the expectations balloon. When asked a pretty innocuous question Saturday about winning 19 straight and how some fans might have forgotten the streak's significance, Coach Urban Meyer asked a reporter if he'd ever been 19-0 at anything, then added "I can answer that for you, you have not." Testy.

Other than occasionally hinting that the offense can improve, Tim Tebow has sounded almost surprised in recent weeks that the offense has been questioned at all.

“19-0, I don’t want anyone to take away what those cats have done," Meyer said. "Two out of three times we’re going to go play in Atlanta for SEC championship in the best conference in college football. There’s absolutely nothing ho-hum about what this team is doing.”

That doesn't mean some recent performances haven't been ho-hum.

The dream matchup of epic proportions is less than a month away, and that matchup will only strengthen if Florida and Alabama take care of business and win out. Since its inception in 1992, the SEC title game never has pitted two undefeated teams. In fact, twice Alabama has played Florida in the title game with an undefeated regular season, splitting the matchups with the Gators. Florida and Alabama will meet for the seventh time in the game's 16-year history, more than three times as much as any other matchup.

Could be the best game since Texas-USC in 2005.

So let's get right to it...Colleague Andrea Adelson is breaking down the Florida-Bama matchup and its impact on college football on the Sentinel's College Gridiron blog, complete with a poll on who will win. So, who will win? Make sure to vote.

In most cases, a 27-3 win is something to celebrate. Especially when the defense is this good.

But there's just something missing with this offense. Urban Meyer knows it. Tim Tebow knows it. We all know it. This is the third game in the last month Tebow and the Gators didn't look smooth out there.

Meyer admits he's concerned after another one-dimensional Tebow performance that included four sacks and 27 yards off 16 rushes, less than two yards per carry. Meyer said the Gators lacked "home-run shots." Aaron Hernandez' 64-yarder was Florida's second SEC gain of 50 or more yards.

“I have to get some production out of the offense," Meyer said. "We’re working at it.”

*This week, the offense failed to capitalize on Vandy's biggest weakness -- covering the option. Vandy gave up 404 rushing yards to option-happy Georgia Tech last week, and in the first half, Florida runs one option play -- the 25-yard Jeff Demps touchdown with nobody within 5 yards of him. “We knew if we got executed, it’d be a walk in because no one’s left,” Meyer said.

*Florida looked balanced against Georgia but went away from that game plan Saturday. In the first half of the Georgia game, Tim Tebow rolled out with playactions and spread the ball around. Florida looked 50-50 run and pass. Against Vandy, Florida had trouble finding that mix. Florida had a 37-23 run-pass ratio, yet the speedy running backs aren't producing big gains. Jeff Demps' 25-yard score was his longest in the SEC. That's surprising for the team's resident cheetah. “When we’ve needed to make drives and needed to put it in the end zone, we’ve done that,” said Tebow, who finished 15-of-20 passing for 208 yards. Imagine if Florida played this way and turned the ball over a la Arkansas. We might be looking at a 27-20 game. Heck, who am I kidding? Vanderbilt still would have scored 3 points.

*POSITIVE: Florida can keep winning with this defense, no matter what the offense does. Giving up six defensive touchdowns through nine games is pretty ridiculous. The only time Vanderbilt sniffed the red zone, the Gators held the Commodores to a field goal. Florida's offense needs to do just enough to win. But that's sort of the problem, isn't it. When they play not to lose, we see too many Tebow runs and not enough creativity. "We're going to be happy with being 9-0," Tebow said. But when they are 12-0, which is likely, will they have enough firepower to knock off 'Bama.

GAME BALLS: CB Joe Haden (all over the field), DE Carlos Dunlap (same), LB Ryan Stamper (intuitive interception), RB Jeff Demps (game-changing TD), P Chas Henry (best punter in the game), TE Aaron Hernandez (made only big offensive play of game).

QUOTE OF NOTE: "Obviously Percy was a playmaker so he would make a lot of things happen. He did a greeat job. It's tough to replace a Percy Harvin." --Tebow about big-play receivers. Sort of ironic that Harvin was in The Swamp.

This is Sentinel correspondent Bobby Callovi bringing you updates from the Vanderbilt-Florida game.

This looks like it will end in another ugly win by Florida. The Gators' defense looked great as always, and the offense struggled to do much against one of the worst defense in country.

Vanderbilt' punt unit gives away field position with a low snap from the long snapper, forcing the punter to drop to a knee to catch it and making him down at the spot to allow the Gators to start at Vanderbilt's 19-yard line.

David Nelson caught a touchdown pass. That's right David Nelson scored a touchdown. It was the starter's first touchdown of the season, and it wasn't even suppose to go to him. Tebow throw to a covered Riley Cooper who was able to get his fingertips on it and slow it down for Nelson who was open behind him in the end zone. 27-3

Get ready for a possible John Brantley spotting. The backup quarterback started warming up on the sidelines.

False alarm. Tebow will return to the field.

After catching a strike from Tebow, Aaron Hernandez couldn't decide which way to go. He started up the middle then cut it to the right then back to the left before finally being tackled after a 64-yard gain.

Now, it is Brantley time. Apparently, Urban Meyer wanted Tebow to get more than 200 yards passing before taking him out.

This is Sentinel correspondent Bobby Callovi bringing you updates from the Vanderbilt-Florida game.

Vanderbilt's offense finally shows some life. Stormin' Warren Norman -- I'm not sure if that is his nickname, but it should be -- breaks free for a run of 30 yards before being brought down at the Florida 15-yard line, but the Commodores are forced to settle for a field goal. 13-3 Gators

The Gators picked up another first down on a fourth and one. This they went back to the usual Tebow run up the gut.

Tim Tebow bursts up the middle for a touchdown, tying him with Herschel Walker for the SEC record for touchdowns --rushing and receiving. 20-3 Gators

This is Sentinel correspondent Bobby Callovi bringing you updates from the Vanderbilt-Florida game.

Fourth and short and the Gators are going for it, so the obvious call has to be Tim Tebow...pitching it Jeff Demps, who sprinted 25 yards for the score. Clearly, the Commodroes were looking for something because there was nobody on the outside to contain Demps wants he got outside the box. 10-0 Gators

Tebow finally has film of him under center and dropping back to throw a pass, hitting Deonte Thompson over the middle for a 16-yard gain. Which brings up the bigger question: Was it more surprising seeing Tebow throw from under center or him throw over the middle of the field? I'm going over the middle of the field.

Somebody should tell Caleb Sturgis that he doesn't have to kick every field-goal attempt as if it was from 65 yards out, but it seems to be working for him as he nailed his second of the game. This time it was a 45-yarder. 13-0 Gators

Tebow shows another instance where he lacked pocket presence. Moody slid over to pick up a blitzing linebacker, but instead of stepping up to allow Moody to block the backer, Tebow rolls out trying to get around him and Moody is unable to make the block.

Vanderbilt punter Brett Upson went from possibly giving the Gators some easy points before halftime to making the play of the game so far. With just 11 seconds remaining, all Upson had to do was catch and punt, but he forgot the catch part. But he beat Chris Rainey to the ball and was able to put a move on him and rugby-style kick it away.

This is Sentinel correspondent Bobby Callovi bringing you updates from the Vanderbilt-Florida game.

Getting the start at running back is Emmanuel Moody. Maybe that will mean more than his usual five touches. Then, again probably not.

It looks like the Gators' offense tricked everyone. After coming out and looking explosive against Georgia, it is backed to its old self this season, struggling to get much going and when it gets things moving, it stalls out in the red zone.

Moody saw something he hasn't seen so far this season: a carry in the red zone.

Even with six offensive linemen on the field, Tim Tebow is unable to pick up the first down, and Florida sends out Caleb Sturgis to hit a 27-yard field goal.

The defense continues to display its dominance with a Ryan Stamper interception.

*Just got done watching Charlie Weis sabotage his job with a loss to Navy -- in South Bend -- so expect the Urban Meyer hype machine to get started on Notre Dame message board around, say, 6:14 p.m. eastern. I ate my pre-game meal while talking to numerous local hacks about whether Urban Meyer criticized SEC officials this week to deflect attention from Brandon Spikes. Not sure the effort would be worth 30 Gs, but oh well. Speaking of Spikes...

*The big boy is on the field -- white hat, blue pants, blue #51 jersey, watching his teammates work out. Thought for a second that Florida might keep him off the sidelines to eliminate distractions, but he's a team captain. Good move to let him cheer on his team.

*Since the SEC has become a weekly officiating charade, what's the over/under on debatable YouTube plays tonight? I say three. Even if the refs call a stellar game, every play is dissected more than ever on the Web.

*RB Chris Rainey (shoulder) looks fine in warmups, so expect him to go full speed.

And don't forget about the Sentinel's AccuScore ratings that have Florida a 35.2-point favorite tonight. You can see all the projected stats on this site. AccuScore is simulated more than 10,000 times for accuracy. Explains AccuScore specialist Jonathan Lee.

"The Gators have faced some bumps in the road, but everything still points to a spot in the SEC championship that will decide a spot in the BCS title game. They have appeared at times this season, particularly on offense, to maybe lack the same killer instinct they had in 2008. Signs of that same dominant team however emerged last week in a blowout victory over Georgia. This week Vanderbilt shouldn’t pose much of a challenge even without Brandon Spikes on the field. Florida is winning 99.7% of simulations by 35 points on average. Tim Tebow is projected for over 250 yards of total offense and 3 total touchdowns. Running backs Jeff Demps and Chris Rainey are projected to rush for 111 yards combined on just 14 carries. The defense is doing its part by creating nearly twice as many turnovers as Vanderbilt."

No. 1 Florida vs. Vanderbilt

Kickoff: 7:15 p.m., Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field
Broadcasts: TV – ESPN2; Radio – 540 AM (WFLF); Online: www.gatorzone.com.
Weather: 10 percent rain chance, high 77, low 58
Tickets: All home games are sold out .Call the Gators ticket office at 1-800-34GATOR.

Parking: Unreserved parking lots around the stadium are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Quick Slant
Florida will be an inspired team after a Georgia blowout and the emotion surrounding LB Brandon Spikes’ suspension for an eye-gouging incident against the Bulldogs. Vanderbilt might be the latest victim of a team looking to get hot in November for the second straight year.

About Florida (8-0, 6-0 Southeastern Conference)
Florida’s offense is relying on playaction and bootlegs with QB Tim Tebow to spread the ball around, but the defense’s big-play ability will determine a potential blowout. Three different Gators linebackers recorded an interception last week. UF will miss the energy of Spikes – who removed himself from the game after his dirty play circulated on the internet – but Florida has played two games without him.

About Vanderbilt (2-7, 0-5 SEC)
Riding a five-game losing streak, Vanderbilt’s not the same team that won its first bowl game in 53 years last season. Vanderbilt is worst in the conference with 18.2 points per game, and QB Larry Smith – who is out for the season with a torn hamstring – completed 47 percent of his passes. Filling in is Mackenzi Adams, who played in last year’s 42-14 loss to Florida.

What to watch
1. The offense struggled for three straight weeks before Georgia. How will it sustain momentum? Will Tebow trust his running backs?
2. Florida’s defensive front is hungry for sacks after DEs Carlos Dunlap and Jermaine Cunningham combined for six in the last two games.

3. Both teams should be on edge to avoid dirty plays and becoming a YouTube victim like Spikes.

The Buzz

*RB Chris Rainey (shoulder), WR Deonte Thompson (rib contusion) and RB Mike Gillislee (hamstring) are expected to play. DT Brandon Antwine (shoulder) is not.

*The Gators outscored opponents 213-54 last November and hope for a similar trend.
