If you want to join the Memphis Grizzlies bandwagon learn these players name. Zack Randolph is also know as Z-BO. And yes, Marc Gasol is the brother of LA Lakers Pau Gasol.

Though Geno Smith didn’t go in the first round like he would have hoped. He did get picked up in the second round by the New York Jets.

Here’s what Geno after being picked:

On if he knew the Jets were going to pick him today…

I had a feeling, I didn’t know anything for sure but once I received the call, I was just extremely elated.

On what it was like not getting picked in the first round…

I think it was a test of patience, a test of character, and I wanted to make it my duty to come back today and still represent for my family and all of those who support me.

On if he had a good feeling through the interactions with the Jets in the pre-draft process…

I had pretty good meetings with them and when I visited, it went well but as you can see nothing is really 100 percent. But, right now I’m just proud to be a Jet and I’m ready to get to work.

On what kind of quarterback New York Jets fans are getting…

Well, I want to come in with the right mentality, I want to come in and work and I’m going to make sure I put my best foot forward. I’m going to be dedicated and try and come in and be a leader, try and help my team get better and win games.

On how he feels about playing in the New York market…

It will be extremely fun. New York is a great place, a great city and I look forward to it.

On if he expects to compete to be the starting quarterback this year…

I just want to come in and compete. I’m going to come in with the right mentality, as I stated. I’m a competitor and I’m going to accept my role on the team, whatever is handed to me, but my job is to compete day in and day out.

On being in a quarterback competition with more than one player…

That’s up to Mr. (John) Idzik and Coach (Rex) Ryan and what decisions they’re going to make there, but like I said, I’m coming in with the intentions to compete and we’ll see where it goes from there.

On if he believes he should have been a first-round pick…

Right now, none of that matters. I wasn’t and I’m just excited to be a part of the NFL. I’m excited to be a Jet. My time has come now, so I’m going to accept it.

On if the Jets have informed him of any competition for a starting job…

Not yet. The only thing they guaranteed me is that I’m going to be a Jet today and now it’s time for me to go in and meet with them and see where all of that stands.

On if the Jets told him that he would be drafted today…

No, they didn’t. Right about now, teams like to keep things close to the vest, but they didn’t alert me today.

On the criticism he’s received…

Whether it was just or unjust really isn’t in my control. Everything that I’ve done up until this point is really getting thrown out the window. I’m stepping into a new league and I’m moving on with my career.

On if he thinks he’s a franchise quarterback…

Yes sir, I do believe so and for a number of reasons, but the main thing is that I’m not only coming into practice, I’m going to come into work and I’m going to compete daily and I’m going to also do my best to better my teammates in order for us to win a Super Bowl.

On what qualities he possesses that make him a franchise quarterback…

I possess many qualities and I just think that it’s up to me to continue to improve daily. My game is not based on one single thing, but I think it’s based on a number of things. So as long as I can continue to improve and prepare I think I’ll be fine.

On if he has ever met Mark Sanchez…

No, I haven’t.

On competing against Sanchez and Tim Tebow…

I love to compete. Mark is a guy who I watched at USC, I watched him in the NFL, and I think highly of him as well as Tim and all of those guys over there. As I said, I’m coming in as a rookie and I’m going to compete and I’m also going to accept my role whatever it is.

On what he can learn from Sanchez…

Well, we’ll have to see. I’m not in that situation yet, so those stones have to be unturned, so once I get there then I’ll figure that out.

On whether he will use it as motivation that a lot of teams passed on him in the NFL Draft…

It’s in the front of my mind, as of right now I will, but it’s not a thing that (I’m worried about). I’m just excited to be living out my dreams right now. I understand that there is a lot of work to be done. If it needs to be used as motivation then it will, but it’s not a situation where I’m bitter.

On whether he was aware that the Jets were interested in him with the 13th overall pick…

I had received word, but a lot of that is just hearsay and until you get selected you really do not know much.

On whether he has spoken with Woody Johnson…

I spoke to him on the phone and he congratulated me that I was going to be a Jet.

On whether he is sticking to his prediction that the Jets will make the playoffs this season…

I am. Even if I wasn’t on the team, I think the Jets have a really good team. Speaking with Rex and Mr. Idzik and the direction that they are going, I think they are headed in the right direction.

On whether he thinks the Jets will make it to the Super Bowl…

That’s a tough one (laughter).

The Jets have finally freed Tebow. After drafting QB Geno Smith it was only a matter of time before the the Jets backup QB was given the boot. Marc Sanchez is somewhere breathing a little bit easier.

Tim Tebow was acquired by the Jets in a trade (03/26/12) from Denver and saw action in 12 games this past season. Originally a first-round selection of the Broncos in 2010, Tebow has started 16 of the 35 games he has played. For his career, he completed 173-of-361 passes for 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions for a 75.2 passer rating and added 989 yards and 12 touchdowns on 197 rushes.

“We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow,” said Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan. “Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this off season. We wish him the best moving forward.”

Now the question is where will Tim Tebow end up next?

Revis Island will no longer reside in New York. The Jets have formally announced that they have traded Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“ It was never our goal to have Darrelle leave the Jets; on the contrary, as I stated before, we wanted Darrelle to remain a Jet for the long term ideally. But Tampa reached out. They expressed a sustained and sincere interest in Darrelle, and generally as things go in the National Football League, there’s a lot of kicking tires, there’s a lot of speculative type of discussions with respect to trades, but as you get closer to the draft, those talks become more real. And that’s in general what happened here. Once we reached a point with Tampa and they presented an offer that we felt merited serious consideration, we discussed it at length internally, and we really ultimately came to the conclusion that this was the best thing to do for the Jets at this time. So we feel like trading Darrelle, although it’s very hard, very hard to do, that this was the best thing to do for really all concerned, given the circumstances.’ General Manager John Idzik

“Darrelle Revis was an outstanding player for us, for myself since I’ve been here as a head coach. He was tremendous. And as John talked about earlier, he gave everything he had to this organization, was a tremendous player. You go back, I don’t take back one word that I’ve ever said about Darrelle Revis. I believe that he is the best corner in football without question. But make no mistake; as I mentioned the day I took the job five years ago, that we will play great defense, and the standard we’ve set as the New York Jets will not be diminished. We believe that we will have an outstanding defense this year and in the future, as well.” Coach Rex Ryan

With those parting words Revis is headed to Tampa. Lets see how big of an impact Revis will have at Tampa Bay.

Job Alert!

The New York Jets and Monster.com announced today that the search is on for the right someone to join the NFL franchise’s staff as its new on-air reporter. Through Monster.com and its Cool Jobs program, the Jets are seeking candidates to serve as an on-air reporter for the team’s live website programs for the 2013 season. The Jets and Monster launched the search today and will announce the selected candidate at the first home game of the 2013 regular season.

“This alliance not only provides an opportunity for the chosen candidate to get unique experience, but delivers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at life as an NFL employee,” said Jets president Neil Glat. “We’re looking forward to adding a new and different voice to our talented reporting team to entertain and inform our fans. We know we’ll be inundated with applicants, so we’ve turned to Monster to help us find the right candidate in our search.”

The new reporter will join senior reporter and team insider Eric Allen to conduct interviews, engage in dialog, and provide informed opinion to viewers on the team’s official website, newyorkjets.com. The new reporter will appear on Jets Talk LIVE with Allen every Thursday at 3 p.m. from inside the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center studios, where they’ll be joined by Jets players, coaches and team personnel. Also, immediately following every Jets home game, the reporter will appear on Jets Replay to provide a comprehensive game recap live from MetLife Stadium featuring in-studio guests, game highlights and fan questions.

Interested candidates can apply at www.monster.com/jets from April 22-June 14. Fans can visit newyorkjets.com/jetsnext to learn more about this opportunity and follow the new talent throughout the season.

The NFL announced today its 17-week, 256-game regular-season schedule for 2013, which kicks off on Thursday night, September 5 and concludes on Sunday, December 29 with 16 division games.

The season begins with the NFL’s annual primetime kickoff game. The opener on September 5 on NBC (8:30 PM ET) will feature the defending-champion Baltimore Ravens visiting the Denver Broncos at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in a rematch of last year’s double-overtime AFC Divisional Playoff Game.

NBC’s Sunday Night Football will get underway on September 8 when the Dallas Cowboys host the division-rival New York Giants (8:30 PM ET).

Kickoff Weekend concludes on Monday, September 9 with a doubleheader on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. The Washington Redskins will host the Philadelphia Eagles (7:10 PM ET) in the first game followed by the Houston Texans visiting the San Diego Chargers (10:20 PM ET).

As I anticipate the start of the season I will look over the Steelers schedule. From the look of it, I;m think the Steelers can go undeafeated into their BYE Week.

Football is in the air with the NFL Draft a week away, the NFL has picked the perfect time to release the scheadule for the upcoming season. The National Football League announced today that the New York Jets will open the 2013 season at home for the fourth consecutive year when the team hosts the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Sept. 8) at MetLife Stadium. This marks the longest such stretch of home openers in club history, surpassing the previous high of three (1968-70).

Schedule Notes:

· NFC Matchups: This season marks the first time since 2008 that the Jets will not face three of their four NFC opponents in a four-week stretch. This season, the Jets battle an NFC South team once a month, opening their schedule at home against the Buccaneers (Sept. 8), then to Atlanta for a Monday Night matchup with the Falcons to open October (Oct. 7), later opening November with a home matchup against the Saints for Ryan Bowl X (Nov. 3) and finally capping their NFC slate with a trip to Carolina to face the Panthers (Dec. 15).

· Ryan Reunion Tour: Head Coach Rex Ryan will face a full slate of former colleagues as he goes up against Buffalo Bills Defensive Coordinator Mike Pettine (Sept. 22), Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Mike Smith (Oct. 7), Cincinnati Bengals Head Coach Marvin Lewis (Oct. 27) and Oakland Raiders Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Tony Sparano (Dec. 8) as well as twin brother and New Orleans Saints Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan (Nov. 3) and his former team, the Baltimore Ravens (Nov. 24).

· 2009 Flashback: This season, the Jets will face 10 of the 13 teams they faced in 2009, Coach Ryan’s first season as a head coach.

· Bye Week: This season, the bye week comes in Week 10, the latest a Jets bye has occurred since 2007. Since 2005, the Jets have had their bye week between Weeks 7-10 in eight of nine seasons.

· Familiar Finish: For the fourth consecutive season, the Jets finish with a divisional opponent (Dec. 29 at Miami) in the final week of the regular season.

· The Last Time: The last time the Jets faced the NFC South was 2009, when the club posted a 2-2 record against that division en route to a 9-7 record and an AFC Championship appearance. The last time the Jets faced the AFC North was 2010, earning a 3-1 record, as they finished with an 11-5 record and a second consecutive AFC Championship berth.

· Primetime Pairings: With a pair of primetime games in the first five weeks of the season at New England (Thursday, Sept. 12) and at Atlanta (Monday, Oct. 7), the Jets have now been on primetime 18 times since 2009 against 11 different teams.

· Rare Occurrence: That Week Two matchup at the Patriots (Sept. 12), marks just the second time that the Jets will appear on a Thursday in September in franchise history.
