Have you ever wondered how Danes manage to survive the dark cold, windy and often wet (not much snow) winters? Well, we are here to tell how we do it – the Normann Copenhagen way:

1. Stay inside – read books, surf the net and watch movies with Steve Mcqueen
2. If you must go outside – remember to make the perfect knot on your scarf
3. Stay warm – curl up in our new Plaids made out of 100% wool
4. Use tons of candlelight – adds a nice warm atmosphere to any room. Our selection for this year are Heima and True Feelings
5. Drink hot chocolate – use our Familia mug since it’s perfect for cold fingers

Boje Estermanns Funnel is quite a simple product – both in design and use.  But sometimes it’s the simplest things that are the most difficult to develop. From a technical point of view the shape of the funnel “rings” was no easy task. Thin enough to flex, yet thick enough to hold the shape.

Today, the Normann Copenhagen Funnel is one of our most sold (and copied!) products.

We say women can do everything men can… but sometimes they just do it with a bit more… style. But what is Anne doing?

We know its a bit early but we are preparing for Christmas in our store in Copenhagen. This year Anne, Gordon and Andreas are transforming the stage in our flagship store into a super cozy Christmas scene.

Anne is making one gigant heart that consists of the words “Merry Christmas” in 12 different languages. Being a true fashion lover, she of cause does it wearing them high-heeled shoes.

Boyz shoes – less glamour – more efficient?

If you are in Tokyo these days drop by the Royal Danish embassy. The front of the building has been covered with pictures of the top of the pop, when it comes to Danish designers including our very own Ole Jensen. (Washing-up bowl, Dustpan, Familia, Warm, Collect, Memory chair)

Last week the Danish designer Nicholai Wiig Hansen (Bob-game, NW1, One table) got a new and quite impressive design office for a few hours. Turning the + 1.700m2 Normann Copenhagen flagship store into his studio, while getting the final details right on his next product. Expect to see the final result very soon. Until then you can enjoy some of his other creations below.

Unfortunately it is not unusual that our design is copied somewhere in the world. Going after the design-pirates is often a long, costly and difficult process. Instead, we thought you would like to see some of the design-freaks we sometimes spot and then make the judgement yourself!

A chinese upside-down copy “inspired” by the Norm 06 lamp designed by Simon Karkov. Urf!

The original (red) strainer is designed by Boje Estermann and was introduced by Normann Copenhagen in august 2005. The other version is a copy made by the company Sagaform – we found the pictures in their 2009 catalogue.

Once again the brilliant designers at Apple in California has created the next must-have gizmo. Besides a few nice updates to the iMac lineup, Apple is also introducing a new mouse called Magic Mouse. From a design point of view it is truly magical that Jonathan Ive & Co has managed to integrate so many new features into such a minimalist design.

… so dear Santa. Besides the WHY-yacht we would also like some of that magical Apple mouse design.

True Feelings is all about leaving fingerprints and changing habits. The designer-duo Claydies have based the development of the series on an experiment with dogma rules. One of the rules was to work blindfolded. Focus was transferred from a visual approach to design to the sense of touch. The design became an expression of the fingers’ choice only. The result is a unique, sensitive and elegant design.

Claydies explain: “ True Feelings is designed by our fingers and our fingers only. Often the looks of our designs are thoroughly thought through. The idea of True Feelings is to do the opposite and let the hands take control – while being blindfolded. This allows us to loose the sense of proportion and our focus is transferred from our sight to the fingers. The result is an immediate design where the porcelain’s fine structure gives the design an elegant and romantic look”.

It is not first the first time we and Claydies  work together in bringing new products to life. We love working with these ladies as they are both very conceptual in their way of working and have great personalities. Claydies love to challenge the conventional thinking of how clay and stoneware are used and looks like.

Claydies also designed the Grass vase and the Blueclay Bowl. Shhh – don’t tell anyone but True Feelings is not the last Claydies product to become part of the Normann Copenhagen collection. Stay tuned.
