I don’t really care for football or soccer as they call it in the US. Most Danes love the game – so living in a football happy country can sometimes be a bit… difficult. Today two pair of Reebok Valde Pro HG size 42 (Yellow as seen below or blue) landed on my desk along with a press release about the chap above.  I could tell that he was a football player, but had no clue about his name, his club or number of you-must-have-seen-his-total-awesome goals.

We have just finished building these two – three – dimensional clouds for our store in Copenhagen. Each cloud consists of several tiles hold together with rubber bands. Not only do they look great on the walls, they also absorb sound. A perfect combination for everybody with noisy neighbors or teenagers! Designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Kvadrat.

Have you invested in a oversize-all-included designer grill? Well, we are here to tell you of a much cooler way to prepare your food this summer.  We just returned from Norway where we  gave a peptalk to the Norwegian design community.  We met Tanja Sæter, a brilliant young glass designer who also uses her glassblower expertise as a seafood chef by grilling the food  - using 900 degrees hot glass as the grill.

Heat Blow Eat is the name of the concept first shown at Designhuis in Eindhoven, Holland

We want to bring Tanja Sæter to our Flagship store in Copenhagen, so that our customers can taste some of that yummy glassblower shrimp.

#1. The MoMA shop in New York (US). Setting the standard for the rest of the worlds museum shops, you are bound to find a few design product you just can’t live without. And while you are there, don’t miss their great book selection.

#2. The Louisiana shop in Humlebæk (DK). You haven’t visited Denmark until you have visited the louisiana museum – and done some serious shopping in their beautiful shop. We highly recommend their posters from previous exhibitions. 

#3. MAK design shop in Vienna (AU). Expect to find unique products like a German – Indian “Plastetasche” or a USB stick in the shape of a classic wooden clothespin.

Bonus info: creativity in the MoMA Cafe’ – the  use our rubber washing-up bowl as a cooler. Brilliant.

Tomorrow Roskilde Festival – the largest North European culture and music festival opens once again. 

The festival has gotten older and bigger – and so have we!!! Sure we have taken our share of being wet, cold and hungry… but never ever thirsty! This year we want to party in style – Glamping style (Glamour + Camping). Here are a few then and now from our own collection. 

• No more plastic cups – we use Cognac glasses
• No sitting in the mud – our throne will be the Memory chair
• Don’t lay on the ground (or mud) – enjoy a nap on our Camping leather daybed
• Mud everywhere – we bring our own Grass… vases
• Dirty smelly feet – we will be keeping ours clean using the rubber washing-up bowl
• No fast-food - we will be preparing ours with the Familia kitchen series

- and if you do choose to smoke at the festival, please use a proper ashtray and not the ground – thank you.

Today we say goodbye to our old salad set. New salads demand new salad sets – and to be honest, the old set was a bit… grumpy. Say hello to the new kid on the block. The Krenit Salad set, designed by Herbert Krenchel back in 1953. This youngster comes in two colors (B&W) and is bound to spice up your next summer salad with some Danish minimalism.

Last week I attended the Reboot 11 conference held i Copenhagen. Many great talks – and as always – something that stuck out and showed a bit of the future to come. This year the RepRap 3D printer blew my mind. Made as a open source project by geeks across the globe, it is bound to shake the material world as we know it. Old news you may say – the 3D printers has been around for  years. However what makes the RepRap stand out is that this fellow can be put together by a bright high-school student, costs less than 500 euro – and can print virtually anything.

What is the point of printing small plastic things in a bad quality – you may ad. But think about it. 10 years ago a printer was big as a house, could only print in black, in really bad quality, and at a very high cost. Today you can buy a color printer in any grocery store which will print in photo-realistic quality.

Imagine your teenage daughter left you this note after watching the Oscar nomination all night.

Could this be reality within 5 years? Probably. Will it give every lawyer, designer and manufacturer something to think about. Definitely.

It may be summertime here in Copenhagen, but we are hiding inside the Normann Copenhagen HQ, buzy with the next products in our collection. We are working with new materials, production methods and doing our best to erase the borders between craftmanship and mass production. We are trying new things and are excited to keep moving in new and different directions – just like the New Danish Modern collection who really expanded our design know-how. Stay tuned on this channel.

We spotted this cool looking urban two-seater micro car. It is powered by hydrogen fuel cells – so you wont get much greener. However, what really gets our smiles wide is the stylish carbon composites black body. Finally, someone has managed to combine environmental thinking and design. Made in the UK by a small company called riversimple.
