Transitioning from one business to another can be difficult. Whether your current business is suffering or you are looking to expand, there are options out there to help with the tough change. Spring-Green offers several services to help existing lawn care business owners make their operation into a Spring-Green franchise.

One is the Green Associate Assistance Program, which applies up to $10,000 of the initial start-up fee towards start-up expenses for qualified candidates. Another option is the Green Associate Roll-In program, which allows the owners of non-affiliated lawn care business to pay a reduced royalty rate for the first 12 months that they convert to the Spring-Green franchise model. In either case, green industry programs are available to candidates who own or are employed by green industry businesses. 

Financing is always a scary thought but there is a financing program specifically designed current green industry business owners. The program helps the transition from one business to another by allowing the appropriate capital to be borrowed based on the particular situation. The loan amount is based on initial investment needs and can be put towards vehicles and both office and landscaping equipment.

These options for current business owners in the green industry are great, but what about those who are new to the industry? Don’t worry. There are special options for you, too. The Flex Start Program offers new Spring-Green franchisees the opportunity to operate their new franchise part-time unit January 1 of the following year in order to ease the transition from previous employment to the new business.

Additionally, there is the Spring-Green VetFran program, which allows U.S. military veterans to take advantage of discount options for starting a Spring-Green franchise. For those who qualify, Spring-Green will use up to $5,000 of the franchise fee towards start-up expenses.

Spring-Green Lawn Care continues its efforts to add support for franchisees as well as its customers by offering an advanced irrigation program. Sprinkler systems can certainly help keep the grass looking fresh and rich with color, but with potential water shortages in the summer, wasted water is a concern not just for lawn owners, but for lawn care providers.

While irrigation systems are helpful in keeping lawns healthy, they require maintenance much the same way a car does. Spray nozzles can wear out and lose pressure or even become out of balance, thus spraying inefficiently and wasting water. Spring-Green’s Irrigation Maintenance Program is designed to use a comprehensive checklist to ensure that customers get the most out of their system. It also allows Spring-Green technicians to provide the best service possible and remain consistent in customer retention.

The irrigation maintenance program has three important steps:

1) The Start-Up: This includes an operational review of the irrigation system in early spring. It involves reviewing the main water supply and priming the mainline.

2) Midseason Performance Evaluation: This step normally occurs during this time of year. It includes fine tuning of all operational systems such as checking for leaks, removing overgrowth around sprinkler heads, rotor maintenance and ensuring proper nozzle performance.

3) Fall Winterization: This final step makes sure the entire system will be well-protected during the harsh winters. This involves a blowout of sprinkler heads, rotors, valves and lines before the temperature can drop below freezing.

While Spring-Green has been adding these new services, they have also been including training programs for existing franchisees, the most recent happening this month. Ongoing training is one of the many benefits of being part of a system and helps make sure there's better understanding among owners, which, in the long run, will help for better customer service.

Spring-Green Lawn Care participated in the Renewal and Remembrance ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday. The landmark, which is a burial ground in Arlington, Virginia for more than 400,000 active duty service members, veterans and their families, welcomed hundreds of lawn care professionals from across the U.S. The event was hosted by Professional Landcare Network (PLANET), the national trade association for the landscape and lawn care industry. PLANET invited approximately 400 volunteers to participate in mulching, pruning and planting on more than 180 acres within the cemetery.

Two representatives from Spring-Green Lawn Care attended the event, Director of Education Harold Enger and Tom Warfel, a business consultant for the lawn care company. The day was especially meaningful for Warfel, who is a veteran of the U.S. Marines.

“It just means a lot for me to be able to dedicate my time and energy to such an important part of American history and to remember the sacrifice all of these people made,” Warfel said.

Aside from the general lawn care maintenance, tree care experts installed lightning protection on the cemetery’s historic trees, irrigation workers made repairs to the sprinkler systems and nearly 78 tons of lime was applied to the turf to keep the beauty of the landscape intact.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the cemetery, and this is the 18th year for Renewal and Remembrance. Including this year, Spring-Green has participated in the lall of the Renewal and Remembrance ceremonies. Spring-Green CEO Ted Hofer, who has attended many of the events, said the company’s regular involvement is an honor.

“It really goes beyond words when I see all of these memorials,” Hofer said. “The fact that we are able to go beyond just doing lawn care and participate in something like this is really special.”
