Can you believe Memorial Day Weekend is here? It may not be as warm as I'd like, but I still plan on breaking out the shorts and favorite sandals this weekend - an outfit that I'm sure is perfect for a relaxing weekend.

Sometimes I stumble upon things that are just too good not to share. Though I didn't really just happen upon this store {I actually knew Kelly the designer in college!}, there was no way I couldn't tell you about her gorgeous jewelry pieces and adorable baby clothing. I don't know if I've ever mentioned it before {and if I have, sorry!} but carrot cake is my favorite kind of cake. If my opinion, there's just no other flavor that tops it. I don't know how I got hooked on it, but ever since I was little {I asked for it when I was three!} I've loved the grated pieces of carrot, fluffy and light cinnamon and vanilla cake, and creamy cream cheese frosting. And since my birthday is coming up, I thought I would take my favorite dessert and turn it into an outfit.

We're going to get a bit intimate right now...

One thing I am constantly worried about is whether or not my bras fit correctly. In my opinion, an ill-fitting bra or panty can ruin a pretty outfit. I've loved Hanky Panky for quite some time now and have recently discovered Josie Natori, but there's another brand that I've worn for years that just makes some great intimates - Calvin Klein. I actually started wearing Calvin Klein Underwear when I was in 8th grade and still can't get over the amazing quality and fit. And while I usually gravitate towards plain neutrals, sometimes it's nice to have those lacy pieces to make you feel extra pretty.

Even though my typical weekend wear is more relaxed and comfortable, I've found that since living in New York City I still tend to add a few dressier pieces to my outfit. A simple silk tank does the trick when paired with boyfriend jeans and ballet flats - my shoe of choice when walking around the city. I try not to wear as much makeup on the weekend but still reach for tinted moisturizer, a bit of a shimmery blush, sheer lip color, and a quick swipe of eye liner. A messy bun, light accessories, and a bag big enough to stash all the necessities and some other things I may pick up while walking around and you've got my perfect weekend outfit.

I've always struggled with going to bed at an early hour. It got so bad this past year that I wouldn't even fall asleep until 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning, and you can only imagine that it didn't bode well for work that day. Lately, I've started drinking tea, specifically Sleepytime Tea, and it has helped immensely.

So for all of you who have trouble sleeping to or just want a good night's rest, these tips are for you!

Besides my new affinity for drinking tea, I've noticed that turning off my TV and not checking my computer or phone {still working on these!} while in bed help in falling asleep faster and easier. And probably the most important thing to remember? Relax. It's so easy to get into bed and start thinking of things that went on during the day or what you need to do tomorrow, but clearing your mind and not worrying over those things will help in getting a good night's rest.

This strawberry-lavender cake is not only great to serve for Mother's Day, but it comes in one of the prettiest and girly color combinations that is perfect to wear while celebrating Mom. A spring appropriate outfit of a light tank top, lace skirt, and comfortable wedge sandals would be perfect for brunch with Mom. A pastel, buttery soft leather jacket would be my choice of a jacket to throw on if there's a breeze. Mix metals with rose gold and gold accessories and you'll be ready for the day!

While on the topic of clothing, did you see the outfits from last night's Met Gala? Rooney Mara was my favorite of the night, but Kate Bosworth, Emma Watson, and Jessica Alba looked great too! Whenever I'm unsure about a print, I find that the easiest way to incorporate into my wardrobe is with accessories. It may not be the focal point of the outfit, but it can pack a punch when in a vivid and bright color or print. I love this look because it pulls together classic and staple pieces and with a fun pop of floral. Perfect for spring and summer!

Wouldn't it be great to skip the April rain showers and go straight to the pretty May flowers? Yes, I think so. Especially since it can be hard to look pretty and put together when it's raining and you suddenly find yourself with wet hair and clothes. I always forgo the pants and opt for shorts, skirts, or dresses when it rains. A jacket with a hood, rain boots, a cross body bag, and waterproof makeup are necessities for me too when the weather takes a turn. Hopefully there won't be any gray and stormy clouds anytime soon!

I'm taking this weekend to catch up on some sleep and just relax. Hopefully you have something a bit more exciting planned for your weekend! Have a great one!

Since I've moved into my own tiny studio apartment, I've spent a lot of time looking at home and interior design magazines and sites. I always end up scrolling through countless images of traditional, open, and clean white kitchens. I love cooking and baking so my future home will need to have a kitchen that is functional and pretty. The days of living in that house are quite a ways away so for now I'll keep looking to these photos for inspiration...

Am I the last person to have heard of the amazingly talented and adorable duo that is Lennon and Maisy? I swear I'm probably the very, very last person to hop on their bandwagon. I don't watch the show Nashville but they've performed a few times and I love their covers of songs more than the original. This song absolutely got me hooked on them.

Did I mention yet that these sisters are just 13 and 9? Mhmm. So much talent and absolutely the most darling girls ever. If you haven't already, you must listen to their versions of "Ho Hey" and "Telescope" and pretty much everything else they sing.

My friends and family know how much I love nail polish, especially Essie colors. I always look at polish colors at drugstores, department stores, Sephora - really anywhere they're sold. I would rather do my own nails than get a manicure, and I've gotten pretty decent at it after all these years of practice. I usually paint them all one color but that doesn't mean that I'm not a fan of fancy nail designs. My favorite nail blog is updated often with pictures of pretty nail art that I wish I had the talent {and patience} to recreate. Maybe one day I'll attempt more than the glitter accent nail...

five things

The lovely Mikki of Centre Street Style tagged me to share five things about myself that you may not know about me...

1. I don't have your typical middle name. Most people have middle names like Marie or Elizabeth but mine is Aduna {pronounced uh-doo-na}, my grandma's maiden name.

2. I'm allergic to shellfish and scaled fish {I can eat calamari}. It was so bad when I was younger that I couldn't even be in the house or in a restaurant where they were cooking fish because the steam would give me hives. I'd even break out if my food was cooked on the same surface or touched by the same cooking utensil. Whenever my grandma made shrimp, she would cut one up into the tiniest of pieces and let me eat it as a way to help me get over the allergy. I actually think it worked because my shellfish allergy isn't so bad anymore. Scaled fish is another story...

3. I dabbled in musical theatre - sort of. When I was in grammar school, my eighth grade class performed The Wizard of Oz and I auditioned for the Wicked Witch. Well, I was cast as Dorothy instead. It was my first time singing on a stage in front of that many people and I was so nervous! I got through the show, but my acting wasn't great and neither was my singing. Oh well, I tried!

4. I played on my high school's varsity golf team for all four years. I didn't even pick up a golf club until the summer before 9th grade so I wasn't that great. I did pick up the game pretty quickly though. I'm still not that good but, if you couldn't tell from my Augusta post and Masters tweets and Instagram pictures, I love the game.

5. Whenever I eat meat or burgers, I always order it well-done. If I see any pink or red, I freak out and won't eat it. So unless I'm at a really good steak restaurant, you can bet on me asking for it that way.

I am absolutely head over heels in love with these Zara Ballerina Flats. So much so that they have found themselves at the top of my wish list. The neutral color makes it easy to pair with other colors and so many looks. And the chain and rhinestone ankle strap adds a bit of sparkle and glamour to any outfit. A little over a week ago, I upgraded to the iPhone 5 and I could not be happier! Before it arrived in the mail {saved the hassle of going to the Verizon store}, I had to purchase a privacy screen and case. I hadn't given it too much thought and purchased one that I thought was cute and fun and would protect my phone. I love the J. Crew cases so it was the first place I went to. Since then though, I've started looking at what other cases I should add to my collection.

Sunny days and warm weather has me in a pretty good mood lately. So much so that I couldn't help but put together this happy yellow outfit inspired by this delicious sounding {and looking!} lemon meringue cake. There isn't much yellow in my closet yet, but it's looking like it will be a color that is going to added soon. I love the look of differing shades paired together and it doesn't hurt that nearly all of the pieces are under $100.

augusta national

While in Atlanta last weekend, my parents and I drove two hours to Augusta National Golf Club for the Monday Practice Round of The Masters. The course is absolutely beautiful, so immaculate and well-kept. My allergies were unfortunately in full force so I didn't get as so close to azaleas or the Eisenhower Tree as I would have liked. Still, just walking around and seeing some of my favorite golfers just a few days before the Masters was such a great experience.

Sadly, I didn't see Tiger Woods, but I did see the 14-year-old Tianlang Guan, the youngest and only amateur who made the cut for this weekend. I was certainly not good enough at 14 {and I'm still not even remotely close at 23} to be playing at this stage. He is incredibly talented and is adding to the drama that is The Masters. You should definitely be watching if you're not already!

It feels like it's been forever since I've done a Friday's Fancies post. In fact, before yesterday's post, I felt like I hadn't posted anything in awhile. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things {work, blogging, living in my apartment} after two weeks of vacation and this post definitely helped get the inspiration flowing.

I couldn't pick just one pair of shoes so I chose a few that I'm coveting this spring. Flats, flats, and more flats. You can't go wrong when pairing them with dresses and skirts to shorts and denim.

My Converse sneakers are one of my favorite pair of shoes. I wear my pair of Tory Burch Reva flats often but would love to add this royal blue pair to my growing shoe collection. Her espadrilles are perfect for spring and summer. And don't even get me started on the striped Repettos and very ballet-inspired pair by Chloe. They're not currently in my budget but a girl can dream!

I'm hoping that the weather is nice enough to wear flats this weekend while running around the city. When I'm not watching the Masters of course. Have a great weekend!

fresh face

My mom once told me that while I was a teenager, she thought that I would never learn to like makeup or how to apply it. It may have taken me awhile {thanks to four years at an all-girls high school} but my love for makeup came right before college. And now I love it so much that I've had to put myself on a spending freeze so that I can use more of what I already have. So while I've been trying to use what's already in my stash, my go-to look as of late has been simple. I think a fresh face for spring is perfect for the season and so easy to do before work and on the weekends. I love the minimal eye look with either a sheer wash of color on the lips or even something more opaque and bright.

Sorry for the lack of posts this week! After coming back from vacation, I got sick and wasn't feeling better til yesterday. And today, I'm off to Atlanta with my parents for the Final Four! This isn't our first time going to the event and I'm always excited when we go, but saying that now we could be quite an understatement. With my alma mater as one of the four teams vying for that trophy on Monday night, I've packed a ton of orange in my suitcase, some orange bows for my hair, and Otto face tattoos to wear while cheering in the stands. spring break

So I may not be in college, but I still took a spring break trip this year. My parents and I are quite fond of Club Med resorts and have visited nearly every year since I was in younger. We took our eighth trip to their Punta Cana resort and, as usual, had a ton of fun! Despite some rainy weather our last full day there, it was nice to get away and just relax while soaking up some sun.

{Fun fact: My parents went golfing the day it rained and saw Bill Clinton playing too!}
