Building on the mission to celebrate its diverse family of customers, ECi hosted its first Everyday Hero contest. The inaugural award was presented during the Connect Kickoff, held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, on November 9th, 2015, to Fred Bliffert , owner of Bliffert Lumber in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The award was created to recognize the charitable efforts of ECi customers in their communities. Bliffert, a SpruceWare.NET user, founded and runs Blue Lotus Farm & Retreat Center, a non-profit day camp that serves children, adults and seniors who have special needs or are living with particular life challenges. ECi presented a check for $5,000 to Bliffert to donate to the charity of his choice. The first and second runners up were John Martin, Optimum System Products, Columbus, Ohio, for his support of Kids N Kamp and the American Brain Tumor Association, and Tonnya Jensen, Quality Connections Office Supply, Flagstaff, Arizona, for QCoffice, a program that employees people with disabilities. The awards program was very moving and inspiring and ECi is humbled and proud to have such selfless people as their customers.

In his new role, Maiuri will be responsible for driving the strategic direction of the LBMH software products and technology to maximize the impact on the entire customer base.

“John has made a significant impact on ECi in the 10 months that he has been a part of our organization,” said Ron Books, President and CEO of ECi. “Joining ECi as part of our acquisition of Spruce Computer Systems earlier this year, John immediately provided sound strategic direction and insightful recommendations on how to further improve our business. It was quite evident that he was the right person to lead the LBMH Division. I look forward to positive developments for both ECi and our customers under his leadership.”

Serving the industry for more than 30 years, Maiuri began his career as the yard foreman for a construction supplier in Catskill, New York.
“I am honored to have been offered this position within the ECi family,” said John Maiuri. “The industry is changing and now, more than ever, technology plays a critical role in the long-term success of lumber, building material and hardware stores. I am excited to lead the ECi LBMH team as we continue to provide excellence in our software for the customers we serve.”

The annual Spruce User Conference has come and gone for another year, and this year’s was a great success. Attendance was up significantly over last year’s conference and the feeling among the participants was decidedly upbeat. The general theme of the conference was Marketing Your Business in the 21st century.

Everyone was very interested in the three presentations given by Fingerpaint Marketing, the company we use for our marketing, focusing on the emergence of social medias as an important component of a company’s marketing strategy. It was clear that some have taken the plunge into social media marketing and many others are looking to develop a plan to do so. One new Release 9 feature that was discussed in conjunction with a new marketing strategy is the E-blast feature. There are also a number of Spruce Dashboard charts designed to track product penetration within your customer base, that is to say what your customers are and maybe more importantly not buying from you. These tools are designed to aid in measuring the success of your marketing efforts.

Craig Webb, of ProSales Magazine, did an excellent job laying out his view of the LBM market looking forward. Craig also moderated an open discussion on the emergence of Mobile Computing and where it fits in our industry. We had participation from a wide variety of our software and service partners providing added value to all of those users who participated. A survey of the users who were in attendance indicated they were all leaving with specific takeaway items to implement in their businesses immediately.

We are looking forward to seeing more of you at next year’s conference!

Spruce President Rob Fitzpatrick is pleased to announce the Spruce 2012-2013 fiscal year was the best in Spruce Computer Systems company history.

Fitzpatrick explains the company’s success stems from several factors including a general increase in sales at the dealer level. This creates dealers confidence to invest in our SpruceWare.NET software allowing them greater capacity without additional investment in staffing. Spruce tools such as Spruce AnyWare allows users the ultimate in productivity without being tethered to a workstation. Sales staff can get out on jobsites and grow the business without spending time returning to their offices to write an order or tying up an inside contact.

Along with dealer confidence Spruce also finds itself in the enviable position of being the sole independent software development company solely dedicated to the retail LBM and Hardware industry. Many new customers come to us for our industry expertise and the robust features within our SpruceWare.NET software. Our approach to software design is specifically to provide maximum functionality that is easy to learn, deploy and use.

Couple all of the above with our industry experienced sales and support staff and we have a winning formula that outpaces the competition. Fitzpatrick indicates that the Spruce employee ownership model ensures the utmost attention to customer satisfaction from all levels within the company.

Founded in 1985, Spruce Computer Systems, Inc. is a technology provider of Advanced Business Management and Point of Sale software to home centers, hardware stores and retail lumber and building material dealers. Spruce customers are found nationwide and throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
