If you’re using the latest Wordpress 2.7, then 50% of the SEO has been done for you. The remaining is to :

use the All in One SEO Pack plugin that once activated takes care of your title and which part of your site will be crawled.

use The Escape’s Web Page Analyzer that will show which links are broken and whether you’re using the right meta keywords. Repair broken links and if the results for the meta keyword don’t suit your expectation : edit your header.php of your current wordpress theme and add the meta keywords separated by comma in this line of code :

<meta name="keywords" content="keyword1,keyword2,keyword3" />

use tags and keywords wisely. When you’ve decided which keyword you want to rank for, make the appropriate changes and run your site through the search engine analysis tool for that keyword. The analysis may take some minutes. Make sure to read the tips provided in the report at the end of the analysis.

Review the number of your outbound links : best practice is less than 40 links out so think well before adding your site to a site directory that will ask for a reciprocal link.

let images help you rank :

avoid using sites like Flickr, ImageShack, etc. to host your images. You are giving away a chance to let someone visit your site by directing the search engine to Flickr instead.

host the images of your articles/tutorials on your own domain. Instead of using the image upload feature of Wordpress, create a folder like
http://yourdomain.com/images/tutorials(or any keyword you want)
and put your images in that folder. Create different folders inside the images directory by varying the name of the folder for each of your articles for e.g
http://yourdomain.com/images/seo
for your seo articles etc. This is because every keyword in a link matters for the crawler

name your images correctly instead of using names like screenshot01, img01, image01, etc. Prefer naming it with a keyword that you think people might use to search for that kind of image for e.g iphone.jpg and use the corresponding keyword in the alt attribute of that image when putting it in your article.

Use a sitemap(the Google XML Sitemaps wordpress plugin might help) and let Google know and provide you with its crawling progress by adding your site to the Google Webmaster Tools.

name your categories correctly, again using keywords people might search for(or you can decide whether to crawl your category pages or not using the all in one seo pack and the google xml sitemaps option panel).

and like I suppose you already know : make some good articles that you might want to link back in future articles by for e.g providing more clarification on the same topic etc. and post frequently like this : good articles and link back to your previous good articles.

use digg, stumbleupon and other social and digg-like sites to spread your articles.

That’s the remaining 45%. Like everybody else, we are still trying to figure out the 5% which might give our site the real boost in rank. Try the above tips and see whether it helps for you too. Thanks for reading.

See WicketPixie in action on the blog of Chris Pirillo. Why it’s my favourite? Designed by the famous Matt Brett, WicketPixie provides a great web 2.0 design with some fabulous options behind the scene with which you can change the complete theme within seconds. From the font, font’s colour, background image, the headings’ style : approximately 99% of the design.

Download a trimmed version of the WicketPixie Premium Wordpress theme

I’ve trimmed it and removed many things I consider a bit too complicated to implement for beginners. To use the theme, just download and activate it within Appearance. Also, load a couple of widgets to see some actions in the sidebar but don’t activate the Search widget as you already have the search bar at the top.

To use the theme : Login into your Wordpress dashboard > Appearance > Themes > WicketPixie Social Media Theme > Activate “WicketPixie Social Media Theme”

To customise the theme : within your Wordpress dashboard > Appearance > WicketPixie Options > bring the changes you want > Save changes. You can revert to the default style by selecting Reset Syle Options within that same page.

My favourite features : wordpress 2.7 compatible, widget-optimised, compatible with latest major browsers, the upper-bar which follows the scrolling of the page providing a great way to present your visitors some of your favourite stuffs, related posts for single posts and gravatar ready.

My changes to the theme : removed lots of bloated stuffs, cleaned the WicketPixie Options page, archives template added, removed lots of functions which I consider many won’t use, no need to use or activate any plugins in order to use the theme(it works out of the box)

Thanks to Chris Pirillo for letting us download his marvelous theme and Matt Brett for putting it into shape.

You know Spaces on Mac OS X Leopard. How about something which can almost put all the powers of Spaces on your PC running Windows XP/Vista/etc? And that’s WindowsPager. It puts options when you right-click on the title bar of your applications which allow you to send them to separate virtual desktops. Also, you can keep an eye of all your virtual desktops from your taskbar. To find them quicker, you’ve got those application’s icons displayed on the thumbnails of the virtual desktops down on your taskbar.

You could find loads of this kind of software elsewhere but WindowsPager seem to be a good try, light on resources and it seem also to be safe with an automatic Window restore even on crash by use of two seperate processes. Do check its features or its demo: the drag `n drop between Desktops really pleased me. And what’s the best part? It’s totally free and requires no installation.

While writing your article, save it after making some minor changes, so that under Post Revisions(the last field on the Write Post page) you can see some date and time appearing like follows :
Click on any date and time from that list and you’ll be carried to the Post Revisions page. Now, under the section Compare Revisions, select the same entry so that both checkboxes are checked.

Then click Compare Revisions. This is what you’ll see unfolding on your screen, just like that scene in The Matrix.

For the past months, I have gone to see a couple of animated movies which were released. Wall-E, the e romantic movie, Kung Fu Panda the hilarious ninja comedy and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, animated version of Star Wars’ epic battle of the clones.

If you would ask me, which to watch from these three, I’ll definitely tell you to have a go for Kung Fu Panda. It makes you laugh without having to understand the movie, but if you understood it, more laughing for you.

I was a bit disappointed with Wall-e, not that it wasn’t good. But I hoped for better. It got a lot of publicity, the robots cleaning earth, etc… and it really intrigued me in the sense that I wanted to know what happened next, which should be something that is extraodinary, mind blowing, etc. It went on like Wall-e fell in love with another robot searching for some plant which will give to some fat people in a spaceship the way to go back home, to earth. Yes, it’s not boring since it keeps you in the movie but I thought there might be some kind of more interesting events.

As for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, it kinda of make me feel, I should go see Star Wars episode One or Two again. Infact the story takes place between these 2 episodes so that you know of some important things that took place during the Clone Wars. Nothing that might change the end though with Anakin becoming Dark Vader.

There is some more to come with the Space Chimps, definitely promising. Hope it stands by its promise.

I’ve been under the sunshine of Jing ever since I’ve known about this jewel. It’s a free application allowing you to make screenshots or video capture of whatever is going on your computer screen, with sound of course if it’s a video capture. It’s easy to use and really practical. You’ve got something like a sun sitting on top of your screen and you just point to it whenever you need some capturing need.

When it comes to screenshot, Jing is ultimately the best. Why? Because it really makes things easier. You can resize your screenshots while making it and when you’re sure you want it, you can save it on your computer, send it to your Flickr’s account or Screencast’s account with a click. You’re offered a Screencast account for free to store your Jing captures online.

The thing is when it comes to video, it gets a bit tricky. The other day, I was trying to film a Mario footage on YouTube. The video capture process went on smoothly but when it came to host this video online, it got complicated. First, the video capture output was in swf format, bulky in size and I could read it only with Jing on my computer. Nonetheless, I didn’t give up, I took the bulky video and decided to put it online. But YouTube wouldn’t accept it for I don’t know what reasons so I put it on my Screencast’s account. Finally, I gave up when I saw that it wouldn’t embed in the blog article I was writing.

Today, while strolling on Delicious, I met ScreenToaster. A quick visit on its site and its demo video convinced me that it might be up to something useful. Not to completely replace Jing, but perhaps take up the work of video capture when it comes to it. It’s free so why not try it, you too.

Recorded with screentoaster.com

With the post meta on top of the post and appropriate social bookmarking, minimalia packs everything in the same column, with style. Minimalia also comprises of features like featured post, flickr image display, avatar in comments, etc…
