I started a show on Dublab BCN, under FARCED of course. Here’s a very special show I did in December for my late father to hear/in his dedication. It’s about 85% Haitian music spanning genres & decades. Haitian Music starts around 15 minutes (but the lead up is great).

I thoroughly enjoyed doing this podcast for Bergsonist’s BIZAARBAZAAR platform. I got to release a lot with this mix and it’s one of my faves! Starts out heavy but ends on a sunny note.

Hi Farced fans and readers (if you’re still reading?). It’s been 9 years since I decided to start a blog, then did my first podcast of a DJ set at Pianos with a voice intro. That podcast was taken off the site and not included in my 5 year FARCED retrospective of every mixtape & mix being mixed into a single MP3 (remember the days when you could download zip files of my mixes?). The other day while recording a sort of Manifesto for the “[Haitian] Legacy Project” I’ve talked about for YEARS of doing, which has slowly materialized into something more tangible, I fell in love with my voice. I realized my voice had power, I realized that the very thing I had been running away from my whole adult life was in essence the very part of my legacy. Then I remembered 2006 and posting that podcast and not being comfortable with my voice. Funnily enough a few weeks before Farced’s 9th birthday (9/22), I decided I’d finally post that podcast, voice and all.

I suppose getting comfortable with my voice recorded was due in part to covering on the Minimal Wave show on East Village Radio a few years back. I am so grateful for Anastazja when I signed up to do my show on Berlin Community Radio for suggesting I name the show FARCED (I was kind of just looking to do it under something else), because “it IS your brand.” So in effect I’ve been simultaneously tending to what was always subconsciously something I wanted to do: use my voice with music, I guess radio DEEJAY, like my Dad (or podcast since this is the internet). I’ve got so many new ideas for Farced (I’ve had many over the years, but the last 3 years of my life have been chaos, ever hear of Saturn Return?). I’ve talked about a site revamp for like 4 years now, it is going to happen. The Farced mixtapes that people email me asking for copies are finally going to be produced in limited editions and sold at some local stores in NYC (and maybe elsewhere in the U.S. of A & Europe). And podcasts, I will try as much as I can to make this a thing since I find myself recording more voice notes than writing in my journal (and clearly I’ve had an aversion to blogging). This will include so many talented & amazing individuals from all walks of life I am lucky to have in my life. So many ideas, so little energy. I will try my best for everyone that’s been bugging me to not let Farced “die.” She’s still here and is not going anywhere.

Now that I got that out of the way: Here’s what’s been going on.

• I post sort of regularly to the Farced Facebook and Twitter. There you can see where I will be DeeJaying.
• I have FARCED 12 shows so far on BCR which you can stream below via the Mixcloud playlist for the show since (their SONYCLOUD Soundcloud got deleted.

“Up Next” shows you all the shows in the playlist. I’d tell you my favorite shows but I’ll leave that up for you to decide (but really the last one (12), 1st, 3rd & 7th are my absolute favorites).

• I’ve moved almost all of my mixes, mixtapes, DJ sets, etc to Mixcloud before soundcloud bites the dust (though my soundcloud is still up, for now).

• Giroutte Records asked me to make a mix for them back in March, it’s finally up (it was Take 1 but life got BUSY so…)

• I finally made a mix of Haitian music, another request by many people I know for years. It’s volume 1 and includes some Zouk from our French Patois sister nations of Guadeloupe & Martinique. It’s mostly synth based. There will be tons more volumes as this will go with my Legacy Project because Haitian music is so versatile and unique. Side note: I’m Haitian-American and Haitian music has been included in a lot of BCR shows and a huge part of my being. I can’t wait to finally make announcements about this project which is ultimately my life purpose. This first volume is entitled WAVE KREYOL. This mix will be posted soon!
• I’m back home in NYC for a bit, settling my affairs (see sidebar for booking link). Getting rid of most of my coveted records to make way for more of what I am ultimately going to spend all of my time doing. Plus most of them have been in boxes for nearly 3 years now so it’s time to find them new homes. I DJ mostly with USB and laptop now, spent a chunk of time 2 years ago ripping a huge chunk of my vinyl, preparing for my escape to Europe.

The name Querencia came after many chats with my cousin while recovering from surgery,  whom I have now dubbed my “cosmic cousin.” It correlates with what is going on in my life and coincidentally this mix. 

“Sybil has been running the blog Farced since 2006. Regularly updated with glimpses into her life living in New York as well as other ephemera, it is her excellent skill as a curator and the frequent mixes that she posts on the blog that noticeably attract attention.

Although her selections tend to explore the sounds of minimal synth, post-punk, industrial, noise and experimental music it certainly isn’t the only reflection of her tastes. She will be reaching into the deepest recesses of her record collection for the mix that she has kindly put together for Earthly Matters, entitled “Querencia”.

For any of you who may be unfamiliar with her, she has hosted Veronica Vasicka’s Minimal Wave show on East Village Radio on a number of occasions and was also commonly seen playing at the excellent Wierd Records club night which sadly finished at the end of February, 2013.”

Found a recording of a DJ Set from a King Dude show at WIERD in April 2012, which made me miss the glory that was making people dance in the fog til 3:30am. An amazing feat in itself when you have Nikki Sneakers providing refilled pint sized glasses of margaritas or whatever it was. I miss WIERD.

Soon I’ll finally make a list of all Wierd & Minimal Wave (EVR) shows I’ve DJed. This year marks 10 years since my friend suggested I become a DJ because I had “good taste.” We played bi-weekly at The Hole (next to Mars Bar, if you lived in NYC 10 years ago, you know). I feel it’s only right to try to start cataloguing as much as I can about what I’ve done the past 10 years. Thankfully Farced has serendipitously provided plenty of material on here for the 3 years I quit DJing (2007-2010).  I’ll always be mixin’  selectin’.

Finished on Halloween, Smelt is a 60 minute mixtape that is quintessentially a MIX, the Farced way.

Side A (first 29 minutes) starting with Bene Gesserit‘s spastic and “spooky” industrial, tape comp-only released gem preceding a hauntingly comforting New Beat sounding Further Reductions demo leading this techno-laden portion into a Marc Trauner sobriquet release. Alongside Traversable Wormhole,  Age Coin’s ticking time bomb, (initially released on cassette via Posh Isolation, soon to be issued on vinyl), Rrose & Entro Senestre who just had a release on L.I.E.S. Further Reductions will have their first LP released soon on Veronica’s Cititrax.

Synth laden Side B includes a wonderful mix of  rarities & more singles from ever inspiring peers. Starting off with a lesser known played, but typically emotional Parade Ground track leading into rare Finnish post-punk by Geisha, contemporary one woman wonder & synth goddess: VOID VISION, Andi Arroganti whose website  reads “This Internet site is exclusive, even so exclusive that it de facto is no internet service'” (note to self), Danish Post-Punk from 1980, demo from buds Figure Study, Christiana’s Delphic Oracle single that I’ve been wholeheartedly obsessed with, and queen of ArabWave herself, Faten Kanaan‘s dreamlike single that is absolute mirth finished off by the underwater world created by Hanjo Erkamp, ex member of Ende Shneafliet.

All in all, there are a lot of unplanned synchronicities in this mix with the lyrics, titles and sampling, as there are in life but I couldn’t be more happier about it.

This past September marked seven years of Farced being in cyberspace. I dabble in thinking of pulling the plug all the time, especially now that it’s been seven years. 7 is a number of completion and frankly the amount of money I spend on webhosting & the srsly.tv domain per year, out of my own pocket with no ads is adding up, considering I don’t post regularly. However, I do get messages, especially lately about my blog & mixes. So Farced will be up, with small updates here and on the F*acebook page. More mixes here.

If my back weren’t fucked, I’d post a photo of me bowing out, but alas, see you on the flipside.

Here’s a mix I recorded for the monthly Rituals party which has just recently moved to The Loft after the shit show at the old K&M. I will be DJing the show on Friday, April 22nd sharing the decks again with Frankie Teardrop (Systems of a Romance) & Glenn Maryansky (Tiers & Cult of Youth).

You may be familiar with Sybil from her stints DJing at Wierd (VRIP) or her contributions to the Minimal Wave program on East Village Radio. Sybil also co-hosts the Pleasure Discipline party, which if youâ€ve attended should provide a glimpse into what youâ€re about to encounter.

What youâ€ll find here is a bizarre, schizophrenic potpourri of songs. Sybil treats the listenerâ€s sensibilities like a mad puppeteer; leading you in one direction before jerking you in another altogether. It makes sense somehow, which may be the weirdest aspect of it all. Enjoy the beautiful whiplash.

The whiplash that is what it sounds like in my brain at all times, with clicks and glitches…. really just a typical Farced mix.

Greetings from LA! Finally mixed both sides of the 90 minute mix tape I made on 12/12/12 named after the song by Deux whose “Game & Performance” starts the tape. Featuring some more contemporary songs from Martial Canterel, Led Er Est, YOU. and Tiers amongst some rare goodies (specifically the Roland Young track) and familiar favorites. A lot less dark than the follow up, strictly digital mix entitled Ke Fini from my last post, which goes across the board with genres, (mixing SPK into Solange, hey!). This tape has SPK as well, mostly because the receiver of the tape loved them so.

This one is strictly digital and not recorded on a mixtape like the Golden Dreams Mixtape of 12/12/12. I’ve been listening to it quite a bit for the past week, perhaps too much.

Gratuitous Klinik because this tape was made for (up until earlier this year) the only person I knew as obsessed with Klinik as I. If you have heard me DJ a lot (AKA if you run in the same circle as me or are a friend) you’ve probably heard me play a lot of these songs. This was meant to be a taste of what a DJ set would be like for Brent, who is on the other side of the country & never gets to see me DJ. As mentioned in the last post this was the first live-mixed mixtape I’ve done with quite a few more to come! And as also mentioned in that post, I plan to live mix every single Farced mix from the past five years! I did say I’d start off with the Ohne Titel mix but after recently revisiting the Paramnesia Mix from 9/26/07, I’ve decided to start with that. Five years ago today, I made my first Farced blog post after installing wordpress onto srsly.tv. Thinking of things in five year increments is in part a bummer, perhaps due to the fact that it flies so fast! Leading to the inevitable thought of “what have I done in the past FIVE years?!” But this isn’t about me, it’s about this dear little blog that I have held on to for a lustrum. In celebration of this event, I planned to post the mixtape I sent Brent for his birthday on Monday. Despite it being only three days, I was really hoping for him to receive it today so I could officially post the mix to the blog. So dear readers you will have to wait for the official post, however I am including the soundcloud upload of it. So far I’ve gotten a lot of praise for this mix which is a relief because I was not happy with the initial live-mixed recording of this mp3. After five days of listening to it non stop, that has passed. And who cares, really? It is after all, a mixtape live-mixed for one person in mind. Tracklist (as repeatedly requested this week) and full posting to come upon receipt of the mixtape.

Also in quinquennial commemoration of Farced, I plan to live-mix every single Farced mix I have posted into mp3s, as I have promised for years now. The first being the ever popular Ohne Titel mix. It’ll be quite the project but I feel that this is the next phase of things.

In typical Farced fashion, I have included the track “Five Years Life” by Aus Decline as featured on the tirelessly fantastic 1983 Italian minimal compilation First Relation.
