announced the launch of 2-year long MTech (Aviation) course from academic session of 2013-14. The Pune University will sign an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) in next month with a German firm Fashschule Feer Luftahrgeng Fuhres (FFLF), a company which is said to be one of the top ranked German aviation firms, next only to Lufthansa.</span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">With initial intake of 24 students only engineering graduates may seek admission to MTech (Aviation) through an entrance examination. The first six months of the course will be at UoP’s department of technology, while the remaining 18 months will be on-site training in Germany, following which the students will get a UoP degree in MTech (Aviation).</span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">The course syllabus and related formalities have been cleared by the university’s statutory bodies like the management and the academic councils. The score of JEE Main is important for not only securing admissions into reputed centrally funded technical institutes (CFTIs) and NITs but also will decide if the students may or not appear in the second part JEE Advanced mandatory for admissions to prestigious IITs. So, loss of very few marks would make the chances bleak for some meritorious students.</span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">Petitioners claim that the answers which were given by them in the examinations were indeed correct according to the answer keys released by some reputed tuition classes. The SC bench headed by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir has taken into consideration the shortage of PG medical students in various hospitals attached to the medical colleges.</span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">“In the interest of students and hospitals, we modify our December 13, 2012 order and allow the results to be declared on account of examination which has already been held,” the bench has said in its new order passed on 13 May 2013.</span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">After delivering the order, the bench clarified that the admissions will only go on for the current year where the examination has already been held.</span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">SC has also said the petitions pending with it by various agencies challenging the validity of NEET will be finally disposed in July this year.</span></p> </article> <article> <h1>MHRD Moves Ordinace To Amend AICTE Act</h1> <p>2013-05-11T02:30:37Z</p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;"><a href="http://ssc2pg.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/aicte.jpg"></a>In order to undo the effect of the recent judgement passed by Supreme Court on April 25, which reduced the ambit of AICTE (All India Council For Technical Education) authority to only advisory; the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has moved an ordinance to plug the loopholes pointed out by the Apex Court in the AICTE Act by which the council was stripped off its authority to grant sanctions to MBA and MCA courses conducted in private colleges.</span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">The Supreme Court in a recent order had said that the MBA did not fall in the definition of technical course as per the AICTE Act. As far as MCA was concerned, it is a technical course, but authority of granting sanctions to MBA and MCA was introduced in AICTE Act without the amendment being tabled in the parliament which was mandatory under Section 24 of the AICTE Act. Earlier the council had suggested a period of 6 years.</span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">As a major decision taken by the Academic Council in the 2 day’s meeting, it also approved 54 courses under 4 year degree program to be launched this year. 11 of these 54 are foundation courses, the university said in the announcement.</span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">A council member also informed that Bachelor Honours / B Tech degrees will require an aggregate of 40% only instead of earlier 50% to qualify to be such degree holder. The member also informed that the syllabi in the new scheme will be reviewed on annual basis, which in old system were not done sometimes even for 10-15 years.</span></p> <p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">Other significant decisions taken in the meeting included allowing students to opt for any of the four application courses irrespective of the subject background they belong to. For example, A student with science background can choose an application course of the commerce department.
