In the next slamming installment, Discotheque and Olmeca Dimensions are amped to bring you one of the hottest rising stars – The Toxic Avenger, a.k.a. Simon Delacroix: Electro thrash producer extraordinaire hailing from Paris, France.

As the growing independent dance scene keeps churning out all-night-long party DJs, and France continues to expand its domination of global club floors with its own brand of powerhouse electro-dance music, it’s The Toxic Avenger who is quickly establishing himself as the latest Frenchman devastating dance floors worldwide.

Signed to IHEARTCOMIX Records, in 2007, The Toxic Avenger was named by Rolling Stone as “One of the 5 most influential electronic artists of the year” alongside Justice, LCD Soundsystem, Digitalism and Simian Mobile Disco. He has played along with many of the current greats including Black Lips, Yelle, The Teenagers, Vitallic, Erol Alkan, MSTRKRFT, Boys Noize, Kavinsky and Crystal Castles and the infamous Public Enemy.

Though dance-inducing electro remains his signature style, The Toxic Avenger draws from a number of distinct influences not directly related to the dance scene ensuring that his take on what keeps a dance floor heaving is never predictable. Taking cues from intelligent hardcore and punk, all the way to 60’s pop, The Toxic Avenger brings us a unique blend of melodic rage and screaming synths that create sonic epic audiences can lose their minds to.

‘Toxic is Dead’, the first single from the currently untitled full length, is due to launch worldwide September 15th and will continue to propel the ever-growing mystique of the man behind the mask. Far from deceased, the Toxic Avenger’s ghostly orchestrations and pulsating rhythms, not to mention his colossal bass lines combine for a dangerous and deadly etherealness that is sure to slay dancefloors around the world straight into the afterlife.

The Toxic Avenger is currently on tour worldwide, playing in clubs and at festivals from Paris to Melbourne, Sao Paulo to New York. Next Stop…Cape Town, South Africa.

Stay tuned for more thrilling adventures of……The Toxic Avenger.

Its been a big year for Killer Robot.

Beginning with a long awaited return visit from Butane and a mid year stop over by none other than Alex Smoke, the night has entrenched itself as South Africa’s premier channel to the international techno underground, with many unforgettable nights in between. 2009 was also the year KR residents also made their contribution to the global scene. After travelling to both Sonar and the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, Ivan made the trip to Glasgow to support none other than techno legend Kevin Saunderson while Bruno Morphet toured Germany, playing gigs in Berlin with Seth Troxler, Ryan Crosson and Shaun Reeves and in Leipzig with Christian Fischer at the legendary Distillery. AK47 let his production do the travelling with new music signed to More appearing in many Beatport shopping carts.

KR03, The Third Birthday, represents the culmination of three years of work and effort, in the face of both appreciation and indifference, in bringing the finest electronic music to Cape Town on a weekly basis. For our regulars, past, present and future, its a night to celebrate, and to remember, but most of all to party the only way we know how. And we know just the guy to help us with that…

KONRAD BLACK.

Konrad Black has always had a thing about music with robots. It started out as a kid in Vancouver, freaking out to the futuristic vocoder intro on Boney M’s Night Flight To Venus and it’s stayed with him ever since, on a journey that currently finds him holding down a much coverted residency at Berlin’s legendary Panorama Bar.

Konrad knows it’s about living and breathing the music, it’s not just a question of turning up, spinning a few tunes and then disappearing back into the night, it’s about getting to know the people, understanding what makes the club tick and always delivering a night of memorable tracks and seamless transgressions.

Although his initial instincts had led him in a Drum and Bass direction, it wasn’t long before he began transplanting his ideas into a 4/4 context. Hooking up with Swayzak in 1998 had a large part to do with this and led to a string of releases on 240 Volts

Konrad’s own approach to music – “It’s important to let music mature and resonate. It’s important to know who you are and to embrace the things that drive you forward even if they seem strange to others’’.

Konrad is now a household name amongst the biggest clubs and festivals in Europe and the US. He recently completed the third cd in the acclaimed series for Berlin club Watergate, and forms part of Richie Hawtin’s Contakt tour.

Discotheque steps it up another level every Friday this August with an incredible lineup of local and international guests. Hosting guests from France and UK we continue to strive in bringing you a diverse line up that promises a great Friday party night that is focused solely on Dance music in all its forms. Next Friday 14th we are very proud to present 2 of the UK’s brightest underground beacons, rolled into one night of an eclectic musical tapestry.

HINT
Hint became a household name for any downtempo / Trip Hop fan when his remarkable debut album ‘Portakabin Fever’, was released by Legendary Label NINJA TUNE in May 2003. Its style being dubbed ‘rural beat’, is a testament to the subtlety and depth within Hint’s musical ability and his deep understanding of rhythms both regular and broken.

He has had a multitude of acclaimed releases since then mostly through ‘TRU THOUGHTS’, a label that is renowned for its high standard of exceptional quality music releases.

An Excellent Jazzy DJ with down tempo beats and grooves contrasted against future-dance floor bombs. This is idyllic electronica. Expect Hint’s ever evolving style to keep you guessing and wanting more.

“Really fat and super funky. Full club support from me” – Laurent Garnier

“Filled to the brim with genius, forward thinking awkward dance music” - Mr Scruff

“this man’s DJ sets are joy, and the dance-floor-orientated tracks on ‘Driven From Distraction’ demonstrate an practiced understanding of what makes a floor bounce…. Hint’s knack of combining the uncombinable shines.” - iDJ Magazine

For a superb example of Hint’s exceptional DJ sets please follow this link: http://mixedbizness.co.uk/hint/

BOOM MONK BEN
Supporting Hint on his SA tour is Glasgow based Mixtape Magician - Boom Monk Ben. Benny The Boom’s list of top notch mixes is ongoing..he has laid down some of the most seminal mixes ever heard on Solid Steel (Ninja Tune). In no small feat, Ben beat off competition from Mr Scruff, Kid Koala, Cut Chemist, DJ Format, MANDY, James Holden and many, many more to finish runner up in the Best Of 2006′ Solid Steel guest mix competition.

A frenzied fanatic of all things bass, the Boom Monk leaves no stone unturned and no sound unheard in his quest for dance-floor devastation. From hip hop, dancehall, funk and break beats to house, electro, dubstep and drum and bass, as long as it makes him, us and you move on the floor then it will get put the through the blender in his inimitable style.

The Booming Monk has graced our Cape Town dance floors twice in the past with knock out shows at FICTION…earning him a loyal local following.

Not all fun & games ;)…Ben runs a niche DJ & Artist booking agency – MixedBizness.co.uk

‘One of Glasgow’s finest DJs, he’s so cheeky we nabbed him for our own purposes on Solid Steel - surely never a better recommendation? The man knows bass and he will give it to you with both tables (or three sometimes!)’ - DJ Food

To sample a vast array of Boom Monk Ben’s top notch mixes please head here: http://mixedbizness.co.uk/boom-monk-ben/

Discotheque rocks every Friday night at The Assembly.

Catch The Toxic Avenger (France), Playdoe and a host of other local support as they tear the roof off Discotheque on 28th August

MR SAKITUMI – LIVE
SPEKTA

As Discotheque goes from strength to strength every week, we ready ourselves for the first official Discotheque international guest – PARKERTRON, otherwise known as PETER PARKER.
Parker is best known for his part in FINGATHING, a trio that rose to notoriety in the UK and beyond for pioneering the art of the DJ / LIVE / VIDEO combination. The bands use of unique comic book style imagery, Parkers razor sharp skills on the turntables and production, as well as the irresistible sound of a live stand up bass, propelled them forward to acclaim across the hip hop / beat driven musical world with an identity and style that was unmistakably their own.
Parkers other project s include the live electro band The Real Dolls and his Solo Production and DJ pseudonym PARKERTRON.
What can Cape Town expect from his set? A mash up of a plethora of influences as well as a heap of his own production material. Stretching from Electro, Miami Bass, Hip Hop, through to Punk, Motown, & Electronica all cut, stabbed, pasted and slipped into a dance-floor thumping concoction that reflects his musical personality

Red Bull Music Academy & sSHADOWORKSs presents Trevor Jackson (UK)
Based in London, Trevor Jackson founded the label Output Recordings in 1996, which introduced the world to such genre defying and inventive bands and acts as LCD Soundsystem, the Rapture, Four Tet and his own project Playgroup which helped create the blueprint for present day electro.
Over the ten years that Output was in existence, Trevor helped put out no less than 100 records and the label is considered to be one of the biggest influences and driving forces behind the sound of the modern dancefloor.

His DJ mix for the series DJ Kicks, is much like his own approach to making music and remixing: an eclectic mash of sounds that traverse the sonic spectrum.
He is also a prolific remixer having started reworking tracks as early as 1991 for the likes of Massive Attack and U2 under the name Underdog.

Other than having such a profound influence on present day dance music with his labels output, his own productions, remixes and DJ sets, Trevor is also an amazing designer, having designed and created the artwork for many of the artists released through Output. His visual art career dates back to the early 90’s with his company, Bite It!, designing record covers for acts such as the Stereo MC’s, the Jungle Brothers and Todd Terry.
The event in Cape Town will celebrate the talents of Trevor Jackson through the best way possible, a straight up 2 hour DJ set of his best!!

Flanked by some of SA’s top electronic music talent over 2 floors, spanning Electro, House, Indie Remix, Minimal, Beats, Funk & Soul..and a whole lot in between, the evening promises to deliver nothing but the best upfront dance music!

FRIDAY 30 JANUARY 2009
THE ASSEMBLY, 61 HARRINGTON STREET CT
R50

There is more to Africa than Safari and Civil War…..
We got dance music…. Authentic Afrikan Elektronik Dance Musik
And besides this is where dance music began anyway….

Gazelle is a small but colorful part of the African Renaissance promoting the growth and world view of any African born art.

The group was born in 2006 when founding member and acclaimed photographer Xander Ferreira started experimenting with producing electronic bedroom music. Mixing an element of Reggae Dub and Electro something fresh was found. Most recently Nick Matthews from bands such as Coda and the Iridium project has joined forces to create an international standard of production.

With a completely unique take and The Urban African chic scene, Gazelle is crossing the divides between Electro, disco, funk and pop, a colorful fashion palette and a sense of pride in what African contemporary music, art and fashion can become. Gazelle is scene definition in action.

For the past 2 years Gazelle has toured the European Summer across various destinations as a solo project. His appearances have seen him gig in Cities like Milan, Stockholm, London, Berlin, Rome, Copenhagen…and many more. Always managing to get booked internationally at the most fashionable, high end events he has even performed for Milan fashion week.

Not confining his talents to music alone, Gazelle is an acclaimed photographer and is currently publishing his first book ‘The Status of Greatness’ as part of his exhibition carrying the same name, exploiting the strategic process that figures of power use, to manipulate and control the minds and hearts of the people, Analyzing the lack of Greatness in modern day Status and the acknowledgement of the true African historical figures of Greatness.

The Exhibition is opening 28 January at What if The World Gallery, 208Albert Rd. Cape Town

In words from Gazelle, “This WILL be the grandest show to date…bring your cameras and show your granchildren you were there…
Gazelles Chic Afrique Afrofuture Spectacular…Various special acts from the bush to the jungle….”

Join one of Africa’s newest and freshest faces for an evening in celebration of Gazelle’s debut album launch, Chic Afrique.

Back to set the record straight or rather the sampler gate, here to clear an air of depression with a whole lot of compression, Booty In Yo’ Bass returns with its megamix of Gangsta Glitch, Miami Bass, Baltimore Frunk and Ghetto Tech.
