Cardiff, 11th January 2011

Cardiff based LED lighting solutions provider, Solid State Lighting International (SSLI) has been awarded an initial contract to supply 10 kilometres of architectural lighting to the hotel and hospitality sector. The project was awarded based on SSLI’s ability to source products to the client’s demanding specification, demonstrate the technology in a robust environment and prove the business case for the replacement of a legacy lighting system.

SSLI proposed a solution consisting of 125,000 high performance LEDs manufactured to robust quality standards in the UK. The solution is supplied to the customer in South Africa through SSLI’s South African subsidiary based in Cape Town. The solution was tested against other products from vendors around the world and was chosen because of its superior performance, warranty and serviceability.

Cardiff based SSLI was formed by Roger Moore and Shaun Oxenham with the mission to source, specify, financially profile and supply world class LED lighting solutions to meet to the exacting requirements of customers in EU and South Africa. Shaun was the former CEO of Enfis Group plc the LED light engine company. SSLI is privately held.

Shaun Oxenham said “We are delighted to have been chosen to be involved from inception to delivery of this project for such a high profile client. This represents a very significant deployment of architectural LED lighting products by any measure in this market sector. We are thrilled to have been able to respond so positively and to prove the superiority of the solution to our customer in South Africa and we look forward to the unveiling of this first phase project later in 2011.”

End

SSLI Provides LED Lighting Solution at Protea Hotels Head Office

LED Lighting Distribution, solutions and services provider, Solid State Lighting International (SSLI), has supplied to the Protea Hospitality Group’s upgraded Head office Server Room their LED recessed lighting panels, thus providing an Energy efficient lighting solution with a reduction in heat load which is critical within the server room. This SSLI LED lighting product has helped in providing a comprehensive and scalable solution geared to address the Hospitality services Energy conservation programme.

Ross Blakeway, SSLI Africa agent, took responsibility for the implementation from initial briefing, where the company took the Protea Hotels IT decision makers through demonstrations of the products, through to the installation, of the requested LED lighting.

Protea Hotel Hospitality Group “visionaries” who drove the adoption of the LED technology were Ricardo Pollard Group IT Manager and Trevor Heuvel Protea Head Office Facilities Manager.

“Protea Hotels needed an energy saving, cost effective integrated lighting solution delivering enhanced performance, reduced heat load and lower maintenance over the current solution and was looking for a company with a good track record in this field,” says Blakeway. “The payback within 24 months and the total Energy savings over the life of one do not take into account the proposed 35% per annum Eskom tariff increases, the reduced heat load and low maintenance, which were all major requirements, especially due to the critical nature of the server rooms function at Protea’s head office, as was a requirement of high quality and efficacy.”

Protea Hotels opted for the implementation of SP120-30 54W LED recessed light panels networked with the DMX protocol allowing for a “Step up and step down” dimming, as well as rapid on/off and motion controlled sensor lighting within the room. For its installation, the company decided on a suspended light fixture approach as a result of the ceilings and IT Server equipment installation and configuration.

Ricardo Pollard, Group IT Manager at Protea Hotels said “The objective of this project was to maximize the benefits of LED lighting infrastructure for improved heat load reduction, energy savings, maintenance free up time and better performance as well as to be leaders in a proven energy efficient technology adoption. The LED lighting implementation will result in savings of R 7202.74 per LED light panel installed and we are already seeing significant benefits in line with the initial goals”.

“Protea Hotels and SSLI have formed a solid partnership. Not only did SSLI put forward the most cost effective solution, but the company’s strong LED experiences was also key in delivering this solution,” Ricardo Pollard concludes.
