Hi! I rarely go to AMV.Org any more, and just noticed today that you had posted an opinion on the JUMP! Amv Hell tribute video. Thanks! :D

If you're not sick of the song, yet, I got it from a CD off Ebay which is cheap and has some other really great songs on it as well.

I suppose I could send you an MP3, if that's not an option for you. :)

Hi,

I have just finished reading the 18 chapters of "Comes The Cold Dragon" and I completely agree with your comments. The story's plot, additional characters and character twists do add a certain dimension to the original made by Rumiko Takahashi.

I just hope Don Granberry finds the time to finish the story because IT REALLY IS GREAT.

Thanks,

PS

If by any chance Don Granberry is reading this, please, please, PLEASE finish Comes The Cold Dragon. You left us hanging and wanting for more.

Specifically, it was supposed to sound like very convincing Old English gibberish. If I recall correctly, his plan was to submit it to one of the academic journals that tracked such things to see if they'd be taken in by it. I'm not certain if he actually did do that. One of the things which always bugged me is that people quote "chortled" as being a word Carrol invented for the poem which has since become part of the language, but the actual word used was "chorted". I'd be more inclined to include "vorpal" as the word which actually migrated in, but then again, I grew up on D&D where a vorpal sword was a standard magic item.

It had been a while since I read Girl Days when I read Redheads, so you may be right.

As for .gz, I run Linux, so I'm using either Firefox or Konqueror. (Sort of an uncle to Apple's Safari) I hadn't considered that some people might use browsers which don't just transparently decompress RAAC-archived fics.

Also, just in case you hadn't considered it, 7-zip provides a nice free alternative to paying for WinRAR, finding a crack, or tolerating the nag screen. (I follow a "usage constitutes endorsement" policy and refuse to endorse non-free software)

While it's conceivable that might lower my review to 4.0 or 4.5, I definitely wouldn't lower it to 3.0 or 3.5.

My guess is that my ratings are more linear (displaying a typical normal distribution) while yours seem to follow a curve which compresses more of the poor stuff into the lower numbers... or you're just more selective than I am.

When I rate, here are the most common meanings of the ratings:
1 - Unreadable... literally.
2 - Why did you write a (crappy) original fic but use the names of popular characters?
3 - Neither bad nor good
4 - Good, but not really memorable
5 - Excellent. I'll probably end up re-reading it eventually.

I then use half-points to resolve cases where I just can't decide between two integer ratings. "The Power The Dark Lord Knows Of" could never be worth less than 4.0 by my system. (Partly because even if implementation brings it down, concept and ideas pull it back up again)

While not a 5/5 this is a nice gem of a fic. The pairing/Hermione chitchat should have been cut out, it was distracting, and a bit more thought put into Harry's new powers.

Solid 3 of 5.

Oy I remember Girl Days. Kenko's Girl days is one of the few fics that manages to have characters break down in laughing fits while keeping it amusing.

Now for redheads...

Ahh, the good old .gz format. This is truly one of the old fics. I know IE can be cajoled into opening .gz files but if I can't be bothered so it's Winrar and Notepad for me.

'reads'

Meh. I've read it before and even 8 years is not enough to make it fresh to me. I recall not being overtly fond of this fic. I had just read through Girl Days and perhaps a bit overloaded on Kenko style fics. His writing is good, though, very good. Almost up there with the best Ranma fics of today.

Certainly worth checking out.
