The finale was divided into four main sections.

CoverGirl Commercial – I felt so bad for Laura when she had her panic attack. But I also felt a bit mad, because if it was any other girl who wasn’t as kickass and tough as Laura, the show probably would have come down harder on her. As it was, the judges were still kind of harsh. Like, Laura is human, relax! I loved Laura’s candid moments more than Sophie’s, but Sophie’s formal presentation was much better. (And not just because the accent makes everything sound better.)

CoverGirl Print Ad – Listen, sometimes these things just don’t jive. Sophie’s, for me, was just a better composition. I should mention that neither of these girls made me want to actually purchase this blast lipstick stuff.

Forever 21 Runway – Sophie’s always rocked the runway, there wasn’t a ton of competition here. What I’ll mention is that Tyra Banks is CRAZY with that hologram stuff. That made it seem cheap – and it was already featuring Forever 21 clothing… ugh.

Vogue Italia Photo Shoot – We didn’t see the final photos, but it looked like Laura was rocking these. While Sophie was better at runway, Laura was the one who could take pictures.

In the end, it seemed to come down to whether they wanted one model who could take really good pictures, or one model who was well-rounded and was pretty good at just about everything.

I’m almost entirely okay with their choice, except in my earlier recaps I remember noting that Sophie was acting really rude and bratty to the American girls. Of course, by the end, her and Laura (“the American”) were pretty chummy.

Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and super fan of SYTYCD (season 9), Jesse Tyler Ferguson were the judges. And Fergy Ferg (I can call him that!) was super enthusiastic and up for seeing booty shaking.

Alexa Anderson – She had auditioned for season 8 of SYTYCD, and was back now to prove she’d improved herself. I found her dancing completely inspiring. (I’m super picky and I might have said some parts were a little too aggressive for me.) Her body is powerful, and she really gave it her all (to use a cliche.) Nigel said he would be giving her a huge compliment by sending her along to Vegas right away. Boom, Vegas time! She totally deserved it. She’s one to watch.

Jontel “Johnny Waacks” Gibson – “Wacking” is his style of dancing. (I’m still new to So You Think You Can Dance, and this style of dance.) And he claims he can do it without looking crazy. He wished he’d been born in the 70′s, and his clothing lived up to that claim. When asking “How long have you been wacking” Nigel couldn’t stop laughing. But Johnny was taking it very seriously. The euphemism was too much for the judges, though! When he got to dancing, there was a lot of rapid movement.. and I surprisingly liked watching it. (More or less.) I like when you can see that a dancer is passionate, and he was definitely passionate. “What you’ve got is incredibly musicality,” Nigel noted. Mary noted he had likability factor. “If Lenny Kravitz was a Russian nesting doll.. you’d be the tiny one on the inside,” said Jesse. Because Johnny has other dance experience (and was so likeable), the judges were swayed to keep him around for choreography later.

Eliana Girard – She loves “aerial pole dancing.” And we have to clarify that it’s not stripping, ya’ll! I was pretty mesmerized by just how looooong her legs were… Nigel loved her dancing and how she gave a true performance. “I felt as though you felt your music,” he said. He also said she was one of the best girls this year (so far on sytycd 2012.) High compliments! Mary said she was top 20 material. Jesse said he already loved her so much.

Nick Aragon and James Aragon – The Ninja Twins – They were sassy. And they do everything together. “We live on the A list, on a B list budget,” they said before comparing themselves to Andy Warhol. But they did have great comedic timing and energy. I thought they’d be a joke, but I ended up really rooting for them. The personality in the show (and humor) was great. But because they’re over 30, they couldn’t be in the competition. I guess they just wanted to show off just once. And I’m glad they did.

Sam Lenarz – We didn’t get a lot of backstory, but we know that her Mother kicked her out of her house. She moved in with her best friends family, luckily. Mother’s and daughters, man. Anyway. Nigel said she had a beautiful quality about her work. But he said he needed more heart and passion from her. Mary enjoyed watching her control her body, and said she was good enough to take more risk. Jesse said she was a beautiful dancer, and that it was her destiny. I almost teared up watching her cry, and hearing how supportive the judges were about her dancing. They sent her through to choreography, and I can’t wait to see more of what Sam does. I’m also curious about her Mom, and why she’d kick her daughter out…

Caley Carr – AWESOME personality! This is a kid who grew up with ADHD but found an outlet in tap. God, he even made me happy (and I was feeling miserable while writing this.) I would watch him tap for hours, he was that charismatic. “It’s such a cliche you have a mustache, you tap and you surf… I’ve seen that so many times. Oooh, so bored,” Fergy joked. He was really entertained and said he was illuminating. Nigel said he was “tremendous.”

Megan Branch – She reminded me of a pixie… Tinkerbell, maybe. Mary called her a little butterfly and said she had tons of potential. Fergy loved her energy. Nigel called her a little firecracker. I’m so glad they liked her. And I’m even more glad that they sent her to Vegas!

Cole Horibe – That’s a horrible last name, but he was a very interesting dancer. His dancing looks like martial arts moves. He also, inexplicably, reminded me of Brandon Routh. Listen, he’s cute. I like him. And he’s loaded with experience! Jesse said he had major presence. Mary said it was simply spectacular. Nigel said his legs looked lethal. It was Vegas for Cole!

David Matz – We’ll call him the wheel guy. He danced with a large silver hoop. It was mesmerizing. Jesse called it beautiful and really cool. But Nigel was concerned about what else David could do dance-wise. So he went on to choreography.

Stephen Jacobsen – Nigel said he should be shot for the bad choreography, he also said it was a corny piece. He was given a second chance to show his real skills. And he was such a powerful ballet dancer that it was crazy! And he went right to Vegas! That’s how we do it, folks!

Jonathan Anzalone – He was here in season 4, and totally cocky. This time, he’s back and bald. Nigel just wanted to get it over with, and you could tell he didn’t expect much when he said “cue music.” Jesse said there wasn’t a ton of substance, but that he was skilled. Nigel said it was more of a contortionist act than a dance. He was outrageous. Nigel had a female go up there to dance with him, to prove he could seduce a woman… or something. I forget. He was doing a lot of wiggling. Mary said he deserved a chance for Vegas. Nigel voted for choreography, and Jesse agreed. They wished him luck and sent him on his way.

Jasmine Mason – Extraordinary, and it had soul. Vegas! (She was Marshea’s sister.)

Marshea Kidd – He was in a coma six weeks ago. And he was pronounced DOA. He’s auditioned for SYTYCD before several times. I am not sure why he didn’t get through before. But this time, it was the golden (vegas) ticket right away.

What are you guys feeling about the So You Think You Can Dance season 9 auditions so far? I feel like I have just SO MANY FAVORITES, AAAH. So, yea, it’s a LITTLE overwhelming!

What can you expect? Tension, for one. One of the women has a panic attack and ends up in the hospital from nerves.

Before we get the the perfect (which 90% of it was) can I just discuss what I didn’t love – the Ellie (Christa Miller), Andy (Ian Gomez), Daniel (guest star David Arquette) story line. At first, I thought it was funny how Ellie had a crush on Daniel, the concierge at the hotel in Napa, but somewhere along the way it went from “funny Ellie” to “completely inappropriate Ellie.” I love that Ellie is a bitch and can treat Andy like crap (that sounds awful when I type it out like that, but I assume you know what I mean), but this story seemed to forget that even when she does treat him like crap, she loves him. It sort of lost a good portion of that “Bill Lawrence heart” and I’m hoping we kind of just forget it all happened when we come back next season on TBS. (YAY)

Something I hope that is not forgotten at all – LAURIE AND TRAVIS. Oh you guys, that was wonderful and painful and just super sweet. And also embarrassing to watch. But I watch Girls on HBO, so that was like nothing to me on the “insanely awkward to watch” scale. But as awkward as it was, and I will admit, I did cringe, it was also awesome because finally, finally, Laurie (Busy Phillips) seems to start to realize maybe there is something there with Travis (Dan Byrd). I’m not expecting the show to come back and *boom* they are a couple – she does still have her army boyfriend, Wade, after all. But it looks like maybe there will be some movement. And that’s all I ask. Because they are perfect together and I don’t care what anyone else has to say about it. So there. (I’m crossing my arms, and stomping my foot for emphasis.)

Last, let’s talk about the perfection that is Jules (Courteney Cox) and Grayson (Josh Hopkins) and their wedding. In order to try to escape the madness that is Jules’s crazy Cul de Sac Crew, they decide to elope to Napa. But, naturally, the crew comes with. I will admit for a smidge of a second I was nervous that Grayson was going to be a d-bag about it. But no, he knows marrying Jules means marrying Bobby (Brian Van Holt), Ellie, Travis, Andy, Laurie, Chick (Ken Jenkins) and even Tom (Bob Clendenin). Still, they decide not to elope in Napa. Instead they do something a million times better – they get married in a moving wedding ceremony on the beach. It is beautiful and simple and, well, perfect. Chick performed the ceremony, Travis took the pictures, Stan ran over with the rings and Jules and Grayson rode off on Chick’s horse into the sunset while the rest of the crew dealt with the cops (one of which was played by creator, Bill Lawrence).

Had this been the series finale (my heart stops just thinking about it), it would have been a lovely end. But thank goodness it isn’t, because there are still plenty of stories to tell with this crew. And until Bobby finds a girl and gets married too, I don’t think I’ll really be happy.

Other random fun stuff:
-Penny Can almost died! Oh the horror! But turning it into a father/son game changed it. Whew.
-Jules not understanding Groundhog Day was hysterical. And, frankly, at least a little understandable, right? Why DID he always forget the puddle?
-Playing Groundhog Day with Jules was even better. I want someone to do that with me.
-The real life twist of creator Bill Lawrence’s wife, Christa Miller, having a crush on Courteney Cox’s ex husband, David Arquette was meta and weird and just plain kooky.

Dismal and disgusting, after watching The Catalina I had felt like I should watch an episode of Jersey Shore just to feel clean again. That’s how bad it was.

There was nothing about The Catalina to like. Certainly not the cast of characters (who are all stiffly boring, even when they seem to be acting with a script), the hotel (it looked deserted, low rent and poorly run), or even the opening titles (which seemed to come out of a 90′s vault of cheesy graphics.)

I set out to watch this series, rooting for it. I want The CW to have more than just one reality TV show that’s good.  I mean, especially since  America’s Next Top Model has gone downhill.Now, I feel rage. I’m angry. Why would a show this bad ever get green lit? It’s not even the kind of bad that you want to watch (like Jersey Shore, or most Bravo reality shows about houewives.) IT can’t even reach “so bad it’s good” status.

Well… I still have hope for Breaking Pointe.

Question: Would you stay in a hotel after seeing it featured on a reality show that showed that the cast was incompetent and the entire place was badly run?

The Bachelorette (June 28) started off by showing Emily being treated to breakfast in bed by her Mother. (WHOSE Mother does that for them on a casual Tuesday morning? Please.) And, oh yea, her bed looked huge! Seriously, it seemed like a luxury hotel. Is Emily Maynard rich? Yes, I am totally jealous! I am an interior design nerd. I bet her sheets have the highest thread count ever, too… sigh. Okay, back to earth… or as “real” as an episode of The Bachelorette can be… (Don’t act like these dates are normal!)

There was one group date, and two individual dates for episode 3. Those one-on-one dates were with Chris and Arie Luyendyk Jr (the race car driver.)

Chris and Emily’s date turned dangerous, but ended up totally romantic.

Arie and Emily shared time in Dollywood,even meeting Dolly Parton. This pair really got close.

The group date involved Emily’s friends grilling “her boys.”

At the group cocktail party, Emily gets to smash Shelly the egg. Kalon wore “I’m indie” glasses. Then Alessandro insulted Emily and her daughter, getting a swift boot home. (He said that trying to make things work with Emily and Ricki would be a compromise of his life.)

In the end, we lost three men. And not all of them good.

Tony (set free by Emily because he wasn’t the one)
Alessandro (booted for being a jerk)
Stevie (no rose for him)

During a recent conference call about the Miss USA 2012 pageant, Andy Cohen plead the fifth about revealing who his favorite housewife is. But he was more loose lipped when asked which Real Housewife would win Miss USA.

“I think Gretchen Rossi from(The Real Housewives of) Orange County because I always – I just think she is always pageant ready. She has like full pageant hair, she is very – she embraces a strong color, she is very clear and concise, she has good posture. She’s just – I just I feel that it’s Gretchen.”

And who is Cohen rooting for in Miss USA 2012 right now? Well, Miss Missouri 2012! “Well I haven’t met them yet so I’m just going to say Miss Missouri because it’s my hometown – you know it’s my home state. I grew up in St. Louis. But I actually haven’t really met them yet so it’s a total shot in the dark,” he finished.

We hope Miss Missouri 2012 makes him proud!
