Apologies but yet another email from us :)
Please make sure this is being passed onto all of your members.
Booking Update :
* ALL 4 sharing rooms are taken with the exception of one space for a lone female!
* We now only have 3 sharing rooms with One Single bed + One Double bed left.
unless advertised in the wanted adds on the news page/homepage)
So... unfortunatly you need to think tent! Most of us have shared tent spaces smaller than your average double bed. You are welcome to bring sleeping bags if this would help you feel more comftable/at home.
(unless you know someone who has a confirmed '3 single bed room' with space)
* We are now down to our last 50 subsidised rate tickets. After this cost of hotel tickets will unfortunatly increase.
* You do not need to inform us of menu options, seating preferences or transport arrangements just yet. All hotel options are subsidised at the same rate so the important part at the moment is ensuring you book a hotel to guarentee the lower rate, even if you change hotel options at a later date you will still be entitled to the lower rate!

News years camp - Dawn

hi all!
I am in the process of trying to organise a New Years camp and would like to open the invitation up to SSWIGS. At present it is just a plan while I check out who wants to come so I dont have definite details but I would be grateful if this could be forwarded to SSWIGS
December 31st - 2nd January
Frith Grange campsite, North London (5mins from Mill Hill tube station)
I'm hoping to keep costs below £10 each and this would include some food and hopefully fireworks! The plan is to book out a building so we have somewhere dry incase of bad weather but we will be sleeping in tents. Its up to individuals what they do on the 1st although I will be trying to arrange some lazy indoor entertainment. People are allowed to bring friends. This Weeks Social and other stuff – SSWIGS Social Secretary

Hi everyone,

As you will all be aware this week we will be holding the EGM to elect a new Treasurer but there will still be a social afterwards! We will be doing some backwards/ backwoods (there is some debate over the proper terminology!) cooking so we'll all have something yummy to eat (hopefully :p) and while we're waiting for the food to cook there will be some fun and games involving food (you may wish to bring your creativity with you!). We will be asking for a small contribution to the cost of the evening (room hire and food etc) so make sure you bring some change (it should only be a pound or two depending on numbers). If anyone has any dietary requirements that they feel we should be made aware of please let us know by Wednesday evening.

Because nobody applied for the treasurer position, we need people to stand for the position at the election on Thursday. Should you choose to stand, you will participate in a short question and answer session between members and candidates before voting will take place. Any questions, speak to Claire.

Being on the committee is a very interesting and exciting experience and it feels great to give something back to the society! It is a fantastic way to be directly involved with the development and future of the society and if nothing else... it looks fantastic on your CV!

Voting Procedure

Voting will take place through secret paper balloting at the EGM. No proxy votes shall be accepted. Only society members who are currently studying at Swansea University are permitted to vote. Candidates will be able to participate in voting and are permitted to vote for themselves.

Voters will be required to mark their first and second choices on the ballot slips. In the event of a tie, the first choice votes for the candidates who are not tied or for RON (see below) are ‘discarded’ and the second choice votes on the ‘discarded’ ballot slips are then used.

Re-Opening Nominations (RON): If the majority of votes are for RON, nominations shall be taken from the floor without manifestos having to be submitted. Candidates who stood in the first round of voting may stand again if nominations are re-opened.

Abstention: If you choose to abstain from voting (i.e. you do not wish to vote), you will not be required make a second choice vote.

Vote Counting: Ballot slips will be collected and votes counted by Raechel and Rebecca. Counters are asked not to discuss vote counts with members until the EGM minutes are available. These minutes will state the number of votes each candidate received. Please do not ask counters for vote counts as they are expected not to tell you!

In the event of a tie after second choice votes have been taken into account: Claire, as president, will have the deciding vote. Claire will not vote in the first instance.

Xmas Ball

13 people have paid and got tickets. The deadline was today but SSWIGS still have some tickets remaining. Contact Claire ASAP if you would like one, or more. Plus 1s also welcome! Tickets are £25 each. Absolute deadline is this Friday. The more SSWIGS the merrier!

Rally Fuel Money

A few of you owe £10 for petrol for rally. I expect you know who you are! I shall be asking for it on Thursday. Cheques payable to SUSU.

Centenary Stampede Quiz

Hello all,
I would just like to thank everyone who came along to support 'The Leeky Daffodil's' Quiz Night on Friday night. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves! It was great to see everyone in high spirits :) Overall the team raised £166.98, which will be a great help towards our £4000 fundraising target! Without the support of all you SSWIGS it would not have been possible, so thanks so much.
Also thanks to those people who didn't come along to the quiz, but purchased raffle tickets in advance!
I hope those of you who won raffle prizes were pleased with your prizes and congratulations to the 'Oh Fluffy Sheep' team on winning the quiz!

This Weeks Social

This Thursday we will be off for a visit to the Waterfront Winterland so we can all get into the Christmas spirit or just have some fun! We will be meeting outside the Winterland at 7.30 (it's next to the LC2). There is an Ice Rink and some of you may wish to display your amazing skills, this will cost you either £7 or £5 (normal tickets are £7 and concessions are £5 so I would presume students would count as concessions but I'm not entirely sure!). If you're not into Ice Skating or just don't want to make us all jealous with your Torvill and Dean like skills the there is plenty of other rides (including the gigantic ferris wheel which I am informed gives you quite an impressive view!) and stalls where snack and hot drinks can be purchased! Treasurer Election - DEADLINE APPROACHING

This position does need to be filled. Being on the committee is a very interesting and exciting experience and it feels great to give something back to the society! It is a fantastic way to be directly involved with the development of the society and if nothing else... it looks fantastic on your CV!

Anyone currently studying at Swansea Uni can stand for the position. See the "SSWIGS EGM - Treasurer Election" email sent out on Friday 6th November for details one what you have to do.

The strict deadline for sending off your manifesto and nominations is 12 noon on Thursday 19th November... that is THIS THURSDAY. Get them in now!!!!!!

Christmas Ball

You've all had the details of this sent out previously. I need to sell tickets by the end of this week as requested by the Hiking Society.

I will not sell you a ticket unless you can pay me at the same time that you receive your ticket... but let me know if this is a problem for you...

Ireland:

Seeing as we only have five members confirming attendance to Ireland, and with deposits due this Friday, the decision has been taken to cancel the trip. The amount of work that will need to go into the trip cannot be warranted for five members particularly with the price pretty certainly having to increase for the reduced numbers. I am deeply sorry to disappoint those that were looking forward to going. Should anyone wish to take on this trip in the future, I am more than willing to hand down the details and work I have compiled until now.

This Weeks Social and news – SSWIGS Social Secretary

First of apologies for the apparently disorganised nature of this social - we've been having a lot of trouble trying to find somewhere to meet. Therefore I will confirm the meeting place as soon as I know!

This week we will be putting the finishing touches to the rally costumes (hopefully if you are doing the sniffer dogs you will have located some brown and black clothes to bring with you at the weekend as per my previous email) followed by some silly games involving food! We will be meeting at 7.30.

You will need to bring some change to cover the bits and pieces for the costumes (if you require one!) and the food for the silly games etc. Please note all details of this social could change depending on the room we manage to acquire something for which I apologise for.

Now for some other things:

Ireland

If anyone else wants to come to Ireland speak to Shaun ASAP. We currently have five confirmed members and two more are required for the trip to be viable. If two more people do not confirm before next Monday, unfortunately the trip will not be viable and will most likely not go ahead.

Victorian Christmas at St Fagans

On the 11th December Girlguiding will be organising a trip for all volunteers to the Victorian Christmas Evening at St Fagans. It is open to any member of SSWIGS. The buses will leave at 5pm and return at abput 10.30 pm an will cost £10. Please let us know by Monday if you would like to join me and Claire on this exciting evening and we will get details to you.

Post Rally Meal

When we return from Leeds we shall hopefully be going for some post camp food at the Rhyddings Pub. If you aren't going on rally but wish to join us anyway please phone either Claire or myself on Sunday afternoon to confirm times.

SECTION A: Upcoming Local Events

1. Poppy selling - 31/10/09

We've been asked to help out some Scouts with this. It is from 10:00-14:00 at Morrisons by the stadium. You do not need to do the full 4 hours, but it'd be great if you could spare any time to pop along for a bit. Best way to get there is by public bus (straight from uni), but let the committee know if this is a problem.

2. Macmillan Cancer Support - 1/11/09

Is anyone up for making and /or selling teas, coffees, cakes etc at a Vintage Car show?! All money raised goes to Macmillan Cancer Support. The stall will be manned by a local scout leader who would love some help. If you're interested, this will take place at 10:30 in the covered car park by the side of Tesco.

3. Remembrance Service - 7/11/09

SSWIGS have been asked to attend this in Scout/Guide uniform. We do not need to stay for the service, just to do the pre-service 'parade' and flag stuff. If you can make it, meet at the main entrance of Swansea Guildhall at 18:00 on Saturday 7/11/09.

If you can attend but don't have a uniform, drop us a message. If you can't attend but you have a spare uniform, also let us know please.

SECTION B: SSWIGS stuff

4. CRB Reminder

Claire would like to remind you all to get CRB evidence sorted if you need to do a SSAGO CRB (for new SSWIGS and for those who haven't done a SSAGO CRB in the last 3 years!). The details are in the SSWIGS email sent to you 21/10/09. Let Claire know, phone/text 07742747480 or email this address when you've got all your evidence so that she can arrange a time to complete the form with you.

5. Fresher's Camp - Review

We hope that all those who came on Fresher's camp had a good time. We enjoyed organising it for you all. However, we are open to comments on what you thought about the weekend (and the first few weeks of socials), be they positive or negative as we are always striving to give you the most enjoyable experience possible, as it is YOUR society. Any comments will be taken into account for future events.

6. Rally booking reminder & transport!

Spaces on the minibus/in cars have been saved for those who have emailed to request a space (Shaun, Kate, Claire, Tom, Bex, Heloise, Suzie, Jenny, Dawn, Mike, Beth, Heather, Rhiannon, Klara, Adam, Jon, Rich). Those of you in the above list who haven't yet booked on at the rally website have been emailed earlier this week, please respond to that message ASAP. If anybody else wants to go to rally... the cost at the moment is £24 + small activity cost and petrol (amount tbc). Book on at http://ssagorally.org.uk/booking.asp or let us know of your interest so that we can book you on. Also reply to this email to request transport up to Leeds.

7. Volunteering - Cubs need help!

Two cub packs are desperate for help... let us know if you can spare some time for them! One meets on Tuesdays 6-7.30pm on Bryn Road (behind where are first meeting was held), the other is in Sketty (down the hill from the Student village) and they also meet on Tuesday evenings.

8. Ireland - 23-29/06/10
The deadline for declaring intentions for visiting Ireland closes this Friday 30th October (although the deposit is not due until Friday 20th November) - so far we have three people who have emailed to say that they are definitely going (that would be Shaun, Claire and Suzie), but I am aware that several have been thinking about it, but am now in need of a more definite answer please. It would be great to get some fresher's along too! A minimum of seven people is needed for the trip to be viable.

The information regarding the trip can be found in the SSWIGS news email sent Wednesday 14th October. If you have any questions or any issues regarding payment of deposit etc please speak to Shaun ASAP (email here or personally at s.r.s.harris@hotmail.co.uk) and we can see if we can resolve any problems!

I would like as many as possible to come and it would be great to see YOU come along too!

Hope all of you that came have now recovered from last Thursday. It was great to see so many of you there showing everyone exactly how fancy dress should be done! Thanks for a great night.

Now to the important business of this weeks social. We will be going bowling at Tenpin Bowling in Parc Tawe meeting at 8pm there. It will be £4 for Students (so remember your cards!) and £6 for non students so make sure you bring some money with you. It may turn out cheaper than this as I'm going to investigate booking online.

I also ask that you reply to this email by 3pm on Tuesday if you intend to come - replying does not mean you have to come and not replying does not mean you can't come! This is purely so I have a rough estimate of numbers so know how many lanes to book!

Also I would like te remind people that we will be collecting money for Freshers camp tonight so if you want to go don't forget it!! Anyone who has yet to pay membership fees it would also be great if you could bring this along as well (£7 for all Swansea uni students, £8 for other students and £10 for non students).

This Weeks Social – SSWIGS Social Secretary

I know that there has been a lot of confusion over the day of this weeks social but I can confirm that it will be on Thursday as usual. As I mentioned last week we will be having a Disney themed pub crawl along Wind Street so I hope you are all getting creative and planning some awesome costumes!!

We will be meeting at 8pm in Walkabout.

SSWIGS is not a drinking society so no one need worry about feeling pressurised to drink at the Pub crawl. Many of our members don't drink or drink very little - the point of the event is to go out and have fun and socialise. SSWIGS pub crawls are guaranteed to provide a good few laughs - alcohol or no alcohol!! SSWIGS is also not a dancing society, many of our members don't dance so no pressure there either!! :p But it is fun to watch the rather interesting dancing styles of our members!

One of the most useful pages is the news page, this has all the current news going on in SSWIGS including all the emails sent out to members, it also contains information about other scouting and guiding events in the area that people might like to get involved with. This Weeks Social – Social Secretary

Hope you all enjoyed the first social last week and it was good to see so many of you there!

This Thursday (8th) we will be organising a Scavenger hunt around Swansea for you. We will be meeting at 7.30 outside Fulton House and it would be helpful if everyone could bring a pen or pencil with them.

Also, just to give you some advance warning, next week we will be going on a pub crawl. And as usual it will be fancy dress. The theme will be Disney. So hopefully this will give you plenty of time to come up with an outfit!! An email with more details will be sent next week.

Finally can I remind anyone that has yet to pay membership fees to bring the money to the social on Thursday. Fees are £7 for all Swansea University Students, £8 for students who are not at Swansea University and £10 for associate members.

Quiz Night

Quiz Night on Friday 20th November 2009. Tickets are £5 and include free nibbles, great prizes and a good laugh. There will hopefully also be a bar providing cheap beverages :D It would be great to see lots of SSWIGS at this event. Hope you all had a great summer and are all ready for another fantastic year!

Firstly welcome to any new members - we look forward to meeting you all and welcome back to all the returning members!

The first social of this year will take place this Thursday (1st October) at Brynmill Road Scout and Guide HQ at 7.30. We will being playing a few icebreaker games so we can all get to know (or reknow each other :p) whilst having fun!

For anyone who is unsure where the HQ is someone will be meeting people outside Fulton House at 7.15 so we can walk over together!

Society Awards – SSWIGS Social Secretary

Hope all exams have gone or are going well!

This years Society Awards will be held on the Sunday 7th June in Oceana starting at 7pm. Basically the awards are a chance to dress up fancy, go have a bit of a party and hopefully pick up a few awards for SSWIGS.

Tickets are being sold at the ENTS office now for £10 or £9 if you're booking a table of ten. This price includes food. So if you're interested in going can you please let me know by 4pm Tuesday and I'll sort out getting tickets so we can take advantage of this discount!
