I’ve known Shelly for a while now, but only in the online-blogging-tweeting-facebooking kind of way. We both got started in dog photography! How toooootally awesome to meet her in person when I was down in Miami this December for the Film is Not Dead workshop! It’s a shame I didn’t actually photograph more of these two beautiful people, but thankfully I got a chance to give their dog some scratches!

After an absolutely wonderful visit to Savannah, we hopped in our rental car and drove to Charleston, South Carolina!

To be honest, the drive in was a crazy, traffic-filled mess during a marathon and the Republican Primaries. We were doubting our decision to leave the sweetness of Savannah. But the more we drove into the heart of the town, the history, colors and charm of Charleston wrapped right around us.

There’s so much character walking these streets. The vibrant colors, the decorative molding, the tangible festiveness that still abounds the old City marketplace. (above left actually from Savannah)

Having never visited a traditional plantation before, it seemed like one of the must-dos around Charleston. We found our way to Magnolia Plantation & Gardens. I’m pretty sure the swamp was our favorite spot!

Happy birthday to you, Mom! And thank you so much for all the exploration you’ve inspired over the years. It was a blast to spend four days together for the first time in years, and I truly came away with a deep love for these two towns as well.

An intimate dock on a pond, vintage dress and decor, an old bench overgrown with vines, the perfect floral details… and a couple that’s crazy in love.

Each guest tossed pebbles and wishes into the pond after the ceremony.

I met Katrina through her amazing mom, Astrid, who is the artist behind such gorgeous floral creations at local Windfall Market.

Close friends and family continued over to Osteria la Civetta on Main Street in Falmouth, an equally perfect setting for the day’s intimate celebration.

First stop was Savannah, Georgia. I’m in LOVE.

And because this trip was in celebration of my Mom, we of course had to swing by one of her favorite things to check out in a new culture – a cemetery!

Only on our last full day in town did we actually make it down to Savannah’s River Street. By this time, we had walked and absorbed a ton, and it was really nice to pull up our knitting at this amazing place, sipping Georgia cocktails and simply people-watching along the river. I literally loved this R&R so much that I had to snap a couple of photos here too :-)From Savannah we actually decided to drive up and check out Charleston, South Carolina. Us, a marathon full of runners, and anyone interested in the Republican Primaries… but we made it! Those photos soon to come. For now, I miss you dearly Savannah, and I hope to return ASAP! Maybe for a wedding?

These photos were taken up at the hand-built chapel on the site of the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe. Such a beautiful hidden gem.

We walked around the historic downtown of Stowe, the perfect amount of snow falling delicately around us. Thanks to Laphroig for joining for our walk and some photos too!

And after a little hot toddy and change of clothes, we ventured out for a few final photos among the sparkly holiday lights in town! These guys were so willing and happy to hang for the afternoon, and I love the variety of photos we were able to capture.

To give you some background, I typically spend either a half-day or full-day engaged with my editorial subjects on-site, whether at their home or business, or wherever their passion in life takes them. I’ve worked with artists, breweries, museums, gift shops, furniture makers, a fishing rod company, an original member of Jim Henson’s Muppet crew, local inns, and even a model railroad club.

While this is somewhat different from wedding and event photography, my passion remains on the storytelling. I’m spending time learning about these locals and what’s important to them, and helping to convey that story that they’re creating around them. That’s how I treat a wedding day! So maybe I’ll start sharing a bit more of this here with you on the blog.
