A few weeks ago my friends at The Academy brought me in to produce and illustrate a poster for the Sundance favorite and now Academy Award-nominated documentary “The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom” directed by Lucy Walker (Waste Land, Countdown to Zero). Have a watch of the preview of the powerful documentary about the resilience of the cherry blossom tree amidst natural disaster and the Japanese national spirit.

No more pillows

I’ve been getting a lot of inquiries about the pillows I made a few weeks back and realized I never addressed the fact that they are, in fact, sold out. They did long ago. So now, this:

The good news is I’m in the process of concepting and designing a LINE of pillows with a few of my favorite Seattle designers. Stay tuned for that project because it is sure to rule.

My last post was about the teaser for the stop-motion music video I did with Sean Pecknold and Britta Johnson for The Fleet Foxes. Yesterday the full-length epic was released. I couldn’t be happier and more proud to see my artwork come to life to one of the best songs I’ve heard in a long time.

As Sean so appropriately put it about the new release: “Please watch in HD with headphones or speakers and full screen if you really want to get crazy.”

THE SHRINE/AN ARGUMENT!

This is a *SNEAK PEAK* trailer of the short film/music video for the Fleet Foxes that uses my artwork for the animation. Many many months were spent on this. Stop motion puppets were built of my artwork for this epic 8 minute video (full length out VERY soon).

On October 29th, I’ll have some new and past works on exhibit at the Washington Ensemble Theater in conjunction with “The Mormon Bird Play” by Roger Benington. This is a fantastic space that showcases new talent in theater (like the name would imply) and if you’re in the Seattle area definitely check it out!

Off to Boston for a week…and Salem for Halloween!

Ode to Tito

A couple of months ago I was commissioned by the wonderful artist Irene Wood to create a birthday piece for her husband, musician Tito Ramsey. She wanted to have something that spoke to Tito’s musical sensibility but to also have my beastly style.

This is what I came up with.

Happy birthday Tito! I have a feeling we’ll all be seeing a lot more of this guy very soon. He’s style is fantastic and to have a listen just click on his name!

My newest piece for the group show “Nature of the Beast” at Seattle’s Flatcolor gallery opening Oct. 6th, 2011.

One of the few times I added environmental foliage.

I’m journeying with my father tomorrow morning to the great and complicated city of Detroit, MI for one week. Lots of Rozichs, food, laughs and sleep. Oh, how we sleep.

I’ll be without Internets and computer so…until next time!

I recently did a t-shirt image for the Thai lifestyle company Q Design and Play. It is to benefit HIV/AIDS charities in SE Asia.

I’m pretty pumped when they sent me what the shirt is going to look like. It’s going to be released mid-September but for now look at this rad shirt!

Kingbrown arrives!

I love mail. I never get it. Except for the occasional student loan reminder or letter trying to get me to sign up for Cosmo magazine, the U.S. postal service never really delivers (literally). EXCEPT TODAY! I just received my copy of Kingbrown magazine, issue 7. I did an interview and photo project with them last winter sometime and it finally came!

Not going to lie: I like doing interviews but I really like doing interviews that actually go to print in real life.

*There is a several page portfolio of my work, but y’all have seen that stuff before. Or if you haven’t, bring your peepers over to my gallery. Which I need to update soon!

This past January when I made the big announcement that I left my job as a server and was concentrating on working for myself (which is still happening!) and going to school full time, I was lucky enough to receive a few awesome commissions, one of which came all the way from Malaysia. Desmond is a tv/film producer and collector of art and gave me a challenge I was both excited and nervous for: work on another material besides watercolor paper. Birch wood. He explained that the extreme humidity and moisture of the region made it near impossible to keep paper from wrinkling and buckling after a period of time, so for me to produce some work for his collection it would have to be on a sturdy material like birch wood.

Finally, after almost 7 months of working on these four panels on and off, I finally finished them.

Desmond has been so patient and understanding about my work load and was very pleased when I showed him these pieces. I have never ever worked on this material before — and with WATERCOLOR no less — so it was a real challenge. I had to think a lot harder about the moisture level of my brushes, because too much water and the color would seep into the wood grain and look sloppy. And this poses a huge problem for me because I’m completely hell bent on clean smooth lines.

With some determination and lots of This American Life, I hunkered down and came out with a new love for birch wood. He has encouraged me to continue working in this same vein…who knows, maybe?
