They did long ago. So now, this:

The good news is I’m in the process of concepting and designing a LINE of pillows with a few of my favorite Seattle designers. Stay tuned for that project because it is sure to rule.

Here’s a few things from around the web///

Got an hour? Listen to a podcast with me!

There have been so many but this wonderful review of The Shrine / An Argument music video really stuck with me

I was (art) crushed!

Portland’s mayoral race as personified by animals by me

Interview!

My first interview about the video with Faythe Levine. Yesterday the full-length epic was released. I couldn’t be happier and more proud to see my artwork come to life to one of the best songs I’ve heard in a long time.

As Sean so appropriately put it about the new release: “Please watch in HD with headphones or speakers and full screen if you really want to get crazy.”

This is a *SNEAK PEAK* trailer of the short film/music video for the Fleet Foxes that uses my artwork for the animation. Many many months were spent on this. Stop motion puppets were built of my artwork for this epic 8 minute video (full length out VERY soon).

A couple of months ago I was commissioned by the wonderful artist Irene Wood to create a birthday piece for her husband, musician Tito Ramsey. She wanted to have something that spoke to Tito’s musical sensibility but to also have my beastly style.

This is what I came up with.

Happy birthday Tito! I have a feeling we’ll all be seeing a lot more of this guy very soon. I never get it. Except for the occasional student loan reminder or letter trying to get me to sign up for Cosmo magazine, the U.S. postal service never really delivers (literally). EXCEPT TODAY! I just received my copy of Kingbrown magazine, issue 7. I did an interview and photo project with them last winter sometime and it finally came!

Not going to lie: I like doing interviews but I really like doing interviews that actually go to print in real life.

*There is a several page portfolio of my work, but y’all have seen that stuff before. Or if you haven’t, bring your peepers over to my gallery. Which I need to update soon!

BUY YOURS HERE! It’s really a fantastic deal, it arrives in a beautifully screen printed brown packaged all sewed up for your ripping pleasure (my bag is mostly in tact — I did rip into it with shark-like veracity when I couldn’t do it delicately). The magazine features a host of super artists like Geoff McFetridge, Miss Van, and many more! Plus you get a zine and a bunch o’ stickers. How great is that?

Desmond is a tv/film producer and collector of art and gave me a challenge I was both excited and nervous for: work on another material besides watercolor paper. Birch wood. He explained that the extreme humidity and moisture of the region made it near impossible to keep paper from wrinkling and buckling after a period of time, so for me to produce some work for his collection it would have to be on a sturdy material like birch wood.

Finally, after almost 7 months of working on these four panels on and off, I finally finished them.

Desmond has been so patient and understanding about my work load and was very pleased when I showed him these pieces. I have never ever worked on this material before — and with WATERCOLOR no less — so it was a real challenge. I had to think a lot harder about the moisture level of my brushes, because too much water and the color would seep into the wood grain and look sloppy. And this poses a huge problem for me because I’m completely hell bent on clean smooth lines.

With some determination and lots of This American Life, I hunkered down and came out with a new love for birch wood. He has encouraged me to continue working in this same vein…who knows, maybe?

More projects coming soon!

August highs

Hello! No new work updates — I am inundated with freelance and also taking a small breather after the Compound show. Which was AWESOME! Massive thanks to Nate Tabor and Katsu Tanaka at the gallery. Huge turn out of some incredible people!

Here are some links of note:

All new pieces of work for the show are online for viewing + purchasing pleasure. Here.

BONUS: Compound is releasing three limited edition prints of this guy, these guys and Mr. Guts. You can buy them as is or have them matted and framed! Get ‘em while you can!

Hi-Fructose did a great online feature of my work and my show. Have a gander!

Issue 7 of Australia’s King Brown magazine is out now and I have a great interview with some photos of my work studio by Patrick Richardson Wright.
