Full BLoom Love

I found out Monday that my boss is leaving at my work so I've been a little down. The best thing for me to do when I am upset over something is to fabric shop. The beautiful colors on Bari J's Full Bloom line make me smile so I figured having a fat quarter stack of them would brighten my mood.

Once they arrived I immediately started making a summer bag out of them.

Yellow isn't really my color. but I was strangely drawn to it combined with the blue rose print.

I used the idea of the Charming Handbag from Bend the Rules Sewing . It still needs a few little things like a closure and such but I'll have to get to that this weekend. I am just pleased with myself for making something during the week. It's a small little bag to take to work made completely out of fat quarters. Yet it still holds all the things I need.

Hello little darning foot. After years of you collecting dust I have finally put you to use.

I did a little free motion quilting for the first time on this block I made yesterday. I really enjoyed it however, about halfway through the block I started getting tired of it. I don't know how people sew whole quilts like that. Maybe it's just my A.D.D.

Anyway, this block started out with a random sketch of a dress form in my art journal. I decided I wanted to use my vintage fabric and incorporate my sketch with it so voila.

A log cabin-ish block with my dress form appliqued on. After quilting it I stared at it for awhile as I usually do with random projects, thinking of where to go next.

A pillow was born shortly after.

I used some vintage buttons in random places along with this cute key button I had from my scrapbook stash.

It wasn't time to pack up my sewing party yet though. After the pillow I thought I would make the pincushion caddy by Anna Maria Horner. I really wanted her Seams to Me book but since so much of it was geared toward a beginner sewer I have held back. Much to my delight the one project I really wanted to make from that book has appeared online. YAY! You can find it here if you don't have the book either but love the pincushion project.

I used up some Japanese fabric scraps and although it was fiddly I really liked how it came out. Plus it holds the little things I always reach for on my sewing desk.

All I need to do now is finish the handles on my "house bag" so I can give it to a certain birthday girl next week.

Vintage Fabric Loot

I decided to take the day off work today and moseyed over to Franklin for some fabric shopping therapy.

We went to "Rosemary's" which is a little farm house filled with vintage fabric. She doesn't have a website or take credit cards which made it hard for me to choose what I wanted to leave with. I only had $14.00 on me so I wasn't able to get too much. Still, I think I did pretty good.

One piece I purchased was this sweet little patchwork print. I have no idea the name of it but think it would make great little potholders or coasters.

Tiny little mushrooms. :)

Vintage jelly roll.

Very pretty vintage fabric. I may do a quilt or something out of them.

Really old looking Alice in Wonderland fabric....with Humpty Dumpty on it....

What am I going to make with this folk fabric??? Help me crafty people. I was thinking maybe potholders or something.......?

Maybe I will just leave it as it is and stare at it........

Welcome to the tea party!

We had to move indoors because of the rain which was okay, it just made photographing things difficult.

Still, there were lots of sugary treats to feast on

Plus plenty of tea of drink

Sugar (in a lovely shade of pink).

" Let there be cake!"

Now here is where the "mad" came into my party

These two came inside from painting a nightstand for some teacakes.

The only thing left was an Alice in Wonderland "Mad Tea Party" cosmetic bag.

You know, for being out of classes this week sure has been busy.

It's been filled with Heather Ross orders, swaps, giveaway packages, and sewing in between.

I am slowly working on re-painting the vintage nightstand and found these beautiful crystal knobs to put on the drawer.

Hopefully it will be done this weekend and I can post a photo.

Anyway off to dig up something for a giveaway item. I got trapped in Flickr instead of preparing for my tea party today. I have joined a designer swap group which I am so excited over. I love swapping but with this group you can get what you're actually looking for.This is something new that may lure me into my Flickr addiction again. I have spent all evening digging around in my fabric bins and I am thinking of dragging my fabric in storage back home too.
